SHE’S FINALLY COMPLETE!!!!!

She needed a new wig, and I got a replacement from BbeautyDesigns on Etsy. I waited several months for this specific wig to restock after it was recommended to me, and I’m SO glad i did. it’s an absolutely incredible color match for an early edition felicity (to the point where i didn’t even remove the leftover pin curls from her old wig - I just straightened them). the new pin curls aren’t in the perfect place or shape, but it doesn’t bother me personally, and I know i could straighten them and make new ones if i ever changed my mind.

once i got the wig, it took me some time to get around to taking the plunge to do my first re-wig and it went really smoothly! the wig was perfectly sized to go on with only minimal struggles (once I got the technique down) and it feels quite secure even without glue.

I could not be happier with this transformation - I am absolutely in love with this doll now, and I’m so excited to finally add her to the dollhouse! 😄

thinking about how ive always had a hard time writing for school, eg papers.  i cried when i had to write about homer in the 9th grade (stayed up all night and panicked until the focus kicked in at 5 am) this was the first time i’d done classical literature and i didn’t know what i was doing and how to proceed and in second year of college i was thrown into a full-blown depression/anxiety era when i wrote a paper about edgar allan poe and encountered Serious Literary Theory for the first time. one of my groupmates used the words “liminal” and “hypnagogic state” and i knew i was hopelessly out of depth in the literature department and i cried in the hallway in front of my classroom. i was late and it was a terrible paper and i had a panic attack presenting it.  in my third year when i wrote a paper about postcolonial theory and exporting domestic labor and got points docked off of it after i had a panic attack and submitted it late. the same semester i passed a paper on alexander pope a few minutes after the deadline. i was late. the professor asked me if she could include it as sample work for her future students in the course.  and the common threads are that every time i was doing something new and i’m bad at dealing with new things but i am good at picking up on where i went wrong and dealing with constructive criticism and reworking how to write something when i have the balls to put myself out there . i graduated magna cum laude eventually.   and i still feel lost writing this stupid final paper which is basically a mini thesis/disso for law school but u know what. i’ve come to terms with being lost and i’m not the best but i’m scrappy and my footnotes are decent

It drives me up the wall whenever someone I know irl comments on one of my symptoms as if it's like. A choice. And not a very obvious problem they probably should have thought about for at least two seconds before making fun of it.

There's a very popular interpretation of Akechi that the third semester is him "mask off," his true self for everyone to behold with no filters or masks. And it's wrong.

Akechi still wears a mask in the third semester--the mask of the black mask. He is never honest throughout the majority of the entire game including the third semester, outside a few key exceptions mainly in his Royal confidant, the Jazz club, and 2/2. Akechi's true self is not a heartless killer. The black mask is another persona (figuratively and literally) he puts on for his own purposes.

(And of course, as I will get into later, that mask is as much a part of him as the pleasant mask is. Loki is as much a part of him as Robin Hood. They are both masks, but they are masks that draw from his inner self. They may obscure inner truths about himself, but they are reflections of that inner self as well.)

Akechi puts on the black mask for clear reasons--he doesn't want the Phantom Thieves, especially Joker, to become attached and risk the true reality for him. He does not believe he deserves or needs companionship after what he's done, he doesn't desire pity or mercy, so he uses what he believes to be his true, unfiltered self to push others away. Because Akechi knows (or thinks that he knows) that his "true" self is unlovable and repulsive. If the pleasant mask is worn to draw others to him, the black mask is worn to push others away.

Now, because Akechi believes his true self is so unlovable, the black mask contains more truth to it than the pleasant mask. He has the freedom to be more honest while wearing that mask because the point is to push others away, and he thinks he can do that by being himself. But even as the black mask, Akechi is never truly vulnerable. He does not display his sympathy for Sumire (which he clearly feels beneath the surface). He puts on this face of antipathy when he clearly does care. Just look at his tsundere behavior with Joker.

If we want to see Akechi's true self we have to look past both the pleasant mask and the black mask. And what's underneath is a kid who loathes himself, who threw his life away for a man who destroyed his life simply to receive recognition that he was worth existing and died for that mistake. Akechi hates himself so deeply that he looked to his own disgusting father, whom he hated, for validation and love.

The engine room scene is key to understanding Akechi in the third semester. I've stated this before, but Akechi in the third semester is someone who's lost everything and believes it is entirely his own fault. He lost, something he absolutely cannot stand, and he believes he is dead. He suspects Maruki is going to use his life as a bargaining chip to accept the fake reality, perhaps from the very beginning. So, what else is there for him to do but to oppose with every fiber of his being the adult who once again wishes to manipulate and use him for his own purposes, and push away the peers he has personally hurt so they don't grow attached and will be able to make the correct choice and let him die in that engine room.

But who is the true Goro Akechi? The kid who isn't being manipulated by Shido? The man who hasn't made opposing Maruki his sole and final life objective?

He's philosophical and self aware, as we see in the jazz club. He's playful, as we see in his Rank 6 in the bathhouse. He's frightfully intelligent, as we see in Nijima's Palace, and genuinely enjoys investigative work, as we see in the third semester. He's vulnerable, as we see on 2/2. He's capable of both happiness and friendship in a few rare moments, but they are snuffed out before they can fully bloom into their true potential due to outside circumstances.

Akechi is not heartless. He is not doomed to have suffering eternally define his existence, and he doesn't live to kill. He's a kid who was groomed and manipulated into becoming a child assassin by his own father and lost himself in the process. He doesn't even know himself until the very end of the game when he Awakens to Hereward. Before that point he's so thoroughly rejected Robin Hood as a part of himself that he's nearly forgotten his childhood dream of being a hero and he believes that Loki is, in his own words, "who I really am." In awakening to Hereward, Akechi reconciles all aspects and masks into one united vision. He's no longer shattered into two incomplete reflections, but a singular whole self. But that doesn't happen until the very eve of his own (supposed) demise.

We barely get a glimpse of Akechi's true self before he's gone because Akechi himself doesn't know who he is and he hates himself so thoroughly he's incapable of displaying himself to others (and therefore the player). Both of his masks are incomplete pictures of the true self underneath. Loki is a twisted mask defined by his anger and suffering and longing for vengeance. Robin Hood is a forgotten, unrealized childhood dream of becoming an ideal hero who fights for the weak. Both are part of him, but separately are mere shadows of a whole. Before Hereward he is constantly in two extremes--the perfect, idealized self; and the vitriolic, imperfect, violent side. We don't see an Akechi who has found a balance, who has finally found who he truly is, because he dies too early for him to discover it.

Now I know Shadow not thinking of Eggman as family is the more popular take. But may I present to you: Shadow treating him as the baby of the family.

Him preferring Robotinik tech

Him always referring to Robotinik as Doctor as a form of pride

Protective of him if he’s hurt or mentally unstable.

Him resenting characters saying he’s pure evil.

Ivo is treated as much as a weapon as Shadow is and Metal

(First of all, if you haven't already, required reading for this post is Robotnik Family Reunion.)

I'm not sure I agree with your take 100% of the way, but I do love to explore the relationship between these two as being closer than most people headcanon. I don't think Shadow acts as the older of the two- they're cousins, if Shadow's counting himself as Maria's sister, which makes them roughly the "same" age. But I do think that they have a strange sort of familial relationship that neither of them can really quantify.

Shadow is someone who cares very deeply about family. Not in an overt, loving sense; almost more of steely obligation. Rouge asks why Shadow even bothers with Ivo and the only reply he has is "he's family". Shadow can't just forget and move on. He's a Robotnik. If something truly happened to Ivo, (especially a chronic illness!) Shadow would be there. There's no other option to even comprehend.

Shadow holds a sort of respect for him. Calling Ivo by "doctor" is the main manifestation of this. But that's not to say that they like each other. They disagree on some fundamental things. Ivo reminds Shadow too much of Gerald's latter years with his desire to conquer the world, and those scars are still too fresh to heal. But there's also an understanding that comes from that. Shadow knows what it's like to be so angry at the world that the only solution you can see is violence. Instead of merely conquering, he tried to destroy everything. Ivo, at least, operates under the pretense that he's making the world better, and that's something Shadow can almost agree with, if it weren't for the scientific and callous disregard for the well-being of others that Ivo brings along with it.

Shadow remembers what it was like to be "evil", and knows it's much more complicated than that. When Sonic and the rest of the gang get to calling Ivo "pure evil", it doesn't sit right.

. . . but then sometimes Ivo does something so colossally stupid or evil that Shadow loses patience and considers just killing the man. To avoid making the decision, he lets Sonic be the one to give the final blow to whatever robot Ivo has himself holed up in for the latest scheme, and looks the other way as Sonic lets him escape every time.

They definitely have periods where they're closer than others.

Sometimes, during the good periods, Ivo lets Shadow get ahold of some of the old family heirlooms. He's got lots of things from old houses that he's inherited as the rest of the Robotnik family dropped like flies over the years, things with little use to him, so he lets Shadow pick through the remains. The most valuable find so far has been a blue ribbon that Maria wore as a baby before the ARK, along with a picture of her parents. Ivo says this exchange of family property is to bribe Shadow from breaking in and erasing his access to the PROJECT: SHADOW files from the EggNet, but. . . let's be honest here, he wouldn't have to go as far as actually giving gifts this important and meaningful to Shadow to achieve that.

Shadow talks about all this with Rouge sometimes. Rouge has had some unsavory family members in the past, so she's able to give some advice. With Omega, though, the topic is probably the biggest strain in their friendship. Omega made up his mind about the whole "family" situation since day one: Ivo is not his "father", and he is not a Robotnik. Shadow has only once made the mistake of implying that he and Omega were cousins once-removed. It took him a week to heal the injuries and even longer for Omega to start speaking to him again.

(Sometimes Shadow, despite himself and despite everything, catches himself feeling a strange sort of gratitude that Ivo built Omega. He keeps this very, very private.)

So, yeah- Shadow Robotnik indeed (no matter how messy the title and all the emotions that come with it may be.) Thanks for sending this ask. I'm always in the mood to have my brain picked about these two.

every time i so much as think about that scene where light looks at porn magazines while scowling i go into hysterics its genuinely the funniest thing i've ever seen

#the funniest thing is is that i truly believe he thought he was being 100% convincing. that that's normal behavior for a completely straight #completely allosexual man #light is fucking awful and i hate him but also there's nuance to him. and sometimes i can get a little like. oh thinking about his life #before the series. specifically factoring in my headcanons about him being gay aroace and autistic and stuff. ppl have written some rlly #good fics surrounding those topics.... but yeah thats not even canon stuff but i dont care #anyways its not in a way of making excuses for how he is i just think it adds more to his character #hes total garbage but i think theres really interesting stuff with him when it comes to how he's.... VERY disconnected from others #just in general. he's like aware of how to act ''normal'' on like the most textbook surface level without being like. Aware enough to #be able to make it more convincing. and as ridiculous as it is i do see some of myself in him in that sense #also that person who said light and L is just autistic guy who's been masking his entire life vs autistic guy who's never masked in his #entire life. LITERALLY EXACTLY. genuinely perfect way to describe them they are both so similar when it comes to this #but the ways they go about it are very different. light has been playing the part of the perfect son his whole life. L doesnt try to change #himself for anyone and doesnt care when people think hes weird. both of them arent very socially aware and havent had any real friends #their whole lives. its such a fascinating parallel between them #i could go on a whole fucking thing about how light was pretending to be someone he's not around his family and at school and everything #long before he got the death note BUT. i wont. at least not right now #jesus christ how did i go from laughing about him with the magazine to this. my bad #derailed my own damn post. idk swagever #will say rq tho. watched a vid on youtube that pointed out how light expected his family to think nothing of the fact that he's gone to #such drastic measures to hide his diary when making the plan with hiding the death note which is like #that level of dedication would NOT be normal. so the fact that light expects his family to think nothing of it...... #i mean you could read that as light just once again being socially unaware. but it could also imply that light's family kind of Knows #he's hiding something and just doesn't address it. (he's gay. im talking about him being gay) #the video also referenced this comic that i didnt rb cause the actual premise of it (lawlight wedding) is um. #not at all my kind of thing. #Im trying so hard not to engage I feel like a bomb #I know his arc was handled badly but the shortening of the owl house should be the give away #And I personally think that the boards weren’t only cut for time!! #People are really mad he was redeemed at all but I think we forget that this guy was intended to portray a victim of abuse #Abuse shouldn’t have to be physical for it mean something #No I am not excusing what he did what he did was shitty but what I am saying is I don’t think he knew that #He thought what he was doing was in the kids best interest and when amity confronted him his eyes opened #I’ve seen people call him spineless and “woobified” and that is lost on me entirely #He stood up to Odalia and broke everything when he found out about her goals #He still has his temper he’s just not lashing out on his kids #Claims of him being turned soft don’t make sense to me because he’s been chasing butterflies the whole time! He was under Odalia s thumb #Until he learned it was hurting his kids and he stood up. #His arc isn’t perfect it’s far from it but the guy was in an abusive relationship for most of his life #I Can see the disconnect some are having but I think we’re really focusing too hard on some cut scenes #I Can see people getting upset with him especially those who relate to amity but I think it’s ironically pushing blame #Not everything can be pinned on Odalia but I think we should let abuse victims grow no matter their age #I guess it just makes me sad to see a character I see so much of myself in being dragged like this lol #Alador blight
