so cool that fanfiction won anne rice’s war on fanfiction

#the new show is sooooooo good #everyone go watch it!!!#and as my buddy pointed out #so cool that tom cruise won anne rice’s war on tom cruise #she’s 0-2 #for those not in the know:#she intentionally spread lies that cruise was trying to make the movie less gay in attempts to tank the film bc she was angry he was cast #and then fully admitted (!!) that SHE was the one who kept making edits to the script to try and make it more palatable to studios/audiences #(ie less gay and explicit) and that the director neil jordan actually put a lot of it back in there once he was in charge #and that tom had no say over the script at all #but by the time she apologized to him (like actually called him and apologized) the damage was done and people STILL think he did all that #and say what you will about him but thomas cruise put his whole pussy into lestat and stands by IWTV to this day #even after OPRAH called him to say she walked out of a screening of the movie because she thought it was putting the devil into the world #anyway.#sorry for being insane! it will happen again

People on the internet: they can't hire actors who are actually in wheelchairs to play wheelchair users in movies! What if there's a scene where they need to stand up? A wheelchair user can't do that!

This is a scene from spy kids 3 - a movie in a series famous for its shoe-string budgets, where Ricardo Montalbán's character is in a wheelchair, but spends most of his screen time in a digital reality where he doesn't need it. Ricardo Montalbán was actually in a wheelchair though in real life, so they just used a combination of VFX and camera tricks (and a dolly for a few shots) to film those scenes. Also if I remember correctly the movie ends with him back in the real world, fighting a mech with his jet-pack wheelchair lmao.

The disability rep is dated (as is the VFX lol) and does fall into a lot of tropes I personally dont like, but it's so earnest in their attempts, and the visible effort behind the scenes to include a real, disabled actor outweighs it for me - even as a kid who wasnt fully aware of why.

Bigger studios have no excuse.

I've linked the video I got these screenshots from, they talk a lot about how they handled Ricardo Montalbán's character being out of his wheelchair there. If if you like behind the scenes stuff for campy old movies, I highly recommend it!

Being asexual and possibly aromantic but also being a huge shipper and hopeless romantic is such a wild experience ngl. I'm always freaking out about my favorite ships and giggling internally reading ship fics, getting invested in characters finally kissing or reading about their pining and their love and I think "I want what they have!!"

But then sometimes you have a slamming realization that your sweet shipping scenarios you imagine in your head look totally different irl and that you are extremely aspec.

One time I went down a YouTube rabbit hole and stumbled across Vsauce's "Why Do We Kiss?" video and let me tell you. When I saw that stock video footage of two people kissing each other I was a little flabbergasted lmaooo

Ok this might be an unpopular opinion but someones gotta say it...

Cassandra is a better Casey Jones than Casey Jr

Ive gotta be honest... i think casey jr is a kinda mid and i dont particularly think all the fanfare about him is warranted LOL

I want to note real quick that i dont DISLIKE him! He is a good character who only got as much development that a 2 hour movie could give him, and he filled and satisfied the role he needed to play in the movie, but the way the fandom latched onto him over the og casey... kinda makes me raise a brow

(Essay/rant about the prioritization of casey jr vs og casey under the cut :P)

Fandom spaces love a traumatized boy from the future, and believe me i do too! But the amount of attention given to casey jr after being revealed as casey is a wild amount compared to the amount of attention the original casey gets. Maybe its just me getting into rottmnt after the movie aired, but this seems a little baised?

Not only that, but the amount of... idk the best way i can think to describe it is infantilization of casey jrs character isnt helping my opinion of him. It feels like most content surrounding him babify him and reduce him only to his trauma post movie. I understand that it can be interesting to explore his trauma now that he no longer lives in the literal apocalypse, but it feels strange to see him reduced to someone who cant get around on his own and lives with the turtles when the original pitch for the movies ending has him leave to explore the world, which i feel is very appropriate for him and wish they had kept it in

In the movie when april shows us where the og casey has been and what shes been doing throughout the film, it tells us that casey is friends april which in theory, shouldve also shown us that she and the turtles are friends to some degree as well and should already have her place established within the group as this generations casey jones

However the final shot of the movie is a group shot of the family+casey jr, which subtlety implies that he's the new casey instead, and that this is the main cast moving forward (should it move forward *sob*). While both caseys being considered in the main cast could be true, it does strike me as a little odd that this was the final direction the rot team decided on for the official ending versus the scrapped ending, especially because it complicates the pre-established canon. It wouldve been one thing if our og casey was a different character, but that isnt the case.. y... (<_<)

Casey jr is an interesting character though! And i can understand why he appeals to fans, especially as his character post movie is fun to expand on aswell as developing his past involved with future versions of the main5, but one (me lol) could argue that the og casey is just as interesting of a character to delve into as she was involved, when you boil it down, a cult most of her life, and that concept, as well as the guilt she could hold for working with the foot and releasing the shredder, ontop of trying to befriend and gain the turtles and aprils trust are also intriguing concepts that could be explored, yet finding content that mentions her at all beyond her relation to casey jr is scarce

It feels as though shes been reduced to a background character within the fandom despite being a reoccuring character for the entire show.

For the two seasons of rottmnt that we did get, we are shown just what kind of character casey is and her possible dynamics with the turtles+april. Shes passionate and powerful and beyond determined to prove her worth and reach her goals. Shes also playful and reckless, a side that fits well with the main cast and their humor and, if the show was given more time, couldve developed naturally as the newest addition to the family as most caseys are. I could also argue that her characterization fits that of previous caseys more than casey jrs does (though i will admit that considering the plot of the movie, i cant positively say what hed be like outside of life or death scenarios, but i also cant imagine hes going to make a 180 in personality without it feeling jarring and ooc)

Now, i wont ignore the fact that her arc was cut horribly short and her involvement in the movie was quite literally a brief mention, both of which definitely play into how under appreciated she is. But at the same time it almost feels like everyone, including the show runners, have willingly pushed her aside for this new boy version to fill the role of casey jones. Hell, even when you look up rottmnt casey jones, cassandra barely shows up. Its casey jr which further proves my point

Idk, TLDR im pretty disappointed that despite being a consistent character for the entire show, no one seems to write or acknowledge her and if she is mentioned, its only relevant to push forward casey jrs character development or a brief cameo. As much as i do love casey jr (i can feel like hes mid and i can like him!) it seems like most people forget about the original casey, or favor casey jr in her place and she deserves more love and credit than shes given!

Introducing New Life core

You may be asking, "What's a life core?"

Allow me to explain a life core allows its host to create. This could be anything from inanimate objects to something akin to poison ivy level (or a darker mad scientist Dr. Victor Frankenstein level)

So I propose a Fic in which Danny himself has a life core and uses it to be poison ivy without the Eco-terrorism or he fights someone with a life core I don't know this idea came to me randomly and I must write about it can we normalize the life core?

Also just imagine the confrontation between the bats and the birds and Danny, him having to explain that no he isn't a poison ivy clone and no he will not use his powers for Eco-terrorism please stop asking

Additionally King Danny turning pariah's haunt into something akin to pink diamonds garden and the Steven Universe movie covered wall to wall and pretty Vines and flowers that may or may not be fluorescent

unclear. last night i stayed up and finished a report worth 25% of my grade at about 5am, arrived on time for my 9am lecture, and spent about half of it zoned out while thinking about seventeen year old emilie agreste. and i was one of the most active participants in the class discussion

NO. i've seen a lot of dp fans in the dpxdc fandom talk about not having access to comics so here. it's completely free, good quality scans (for most things), basically any dc comic you could want is there. you should have an adblocker but the ads aren't the worst if you don't, just noticeable and annoying. you're not gonna get a virus, i've been using the site for years, as have many other fans.

if you genuinely want to read the comics, take advantage of the sites comic fans have been using. there's new and old stuff and everything in between. crossovers too. whatever you want to read, you'll find there.

#it was genuinely surprising to see people talk about inaccessibility and cost of comics here #like ik most of you arent dc fans but i was still surprised #literally everyone in the dc fandom knows about this and uses it regularly #i just forgot that people who arent comics fan wouldnt know about the free comic sites lol #new runs are updated too! its not just the old stuff!#so no you dont need a comic store or a shit ton of money to read the comics #dpxdc #if we're talking movies and shows then use fmovies #DEF use an adblocker (and vpn if you have one) for that though #and since this is directed at dp fans id highly suggest watching the bat.man scooby doo crossover!#its amazing and imo is a great example of mixing bat.man with a more comedic child friendly vibe #bat.man is so goofy in that movie i love it aldhg #oh man... thats making me think of dpxdcxsd crossover now...#is the acronym for scooby doo sd? that feels wrong #well anyway if you want to read the comics for free you can lol #remember! the dc fandom has been here for decades! we have all the resources you need!! dont be afraid to look or ask!#and if you dont know where to start reading - just pick your favorite character and find a masterlist made by an obsessed fan #and start there lol #but if anyone wants recs let me know and ill be happy to help :)

beyond the spiderverse shouldn't come out until 2030 imo the animatiors and editors need to fucking rest

#they literally finished the edit DAYS before the premiere. the character designs weren't cleared until months before the premiere #i knew working on that film was no smooth sailing job (like most animation) but the fact that they're still #making edits of this movie is scary. i hope the people that worked on this build a union because pascal and phil lord #had them working like anything. the intense crunch sessions are making my chest hurt
