I think what I love about the renaissance of Brendan Fraser is how fundamentally people, in general, are just so good. We saw a man who had been screwed over and hurt, and we said ‘this is our child now, and you will respect him, look at this wonderful little human, look at this humble man, he deserves the world’ and that is peak human, that is what is means to be a person, community and social support are so so so important, and look at him shining bruv

I love making people laugh
One time in college I was on a bus in a wildlife park and it began to rain so I sang "raindrops are falling on my head" but I changed it to "raindrops are blocking up my view". The teacher sitting in front of me laughed at that 😊
Another time I was waiting for my bus home with a friend and I was complaining about how my arthritic knees kept hurting. So I decided to quote a funny meme I'd read online. "I am the lorax I speak for my knees. AAAAAAAAH!"
Someone standing behind us watched the whole thing and cracked up 😁
Another time was a complete accident! I was on a group trip to a learning centre where we learned about basic life skills and went into a model house where we each had to find and talk about a safety hazard we could see. I was a little slower and as I was walking I stood on something and looked down to see some sort of fake spilled food. It was at that moment the tutor asked what I'd found and I, without thinking, said "something gross". It felt really good when the whole room laughed at that 😄

human things that i think abt when the world feels particularly bad
that moment in concerts where the performer stops singing and you can hear the audience shouting all the words together
when an animal stretches and you automatically go :0 "big stretch!!" approvingly
when u and ur friend both want to try a couple things so u get both and share them
when u compliment someone on their skirt/dress and they show u with completely genuine excitement "it has pockets!!"
that "i can't help it, i love the way men love" post
when strangers run up to u bc they just had to tell u they think ur hair looks cool
when ppl name inanimate objects
when ur in the car listening to music together and ur just jamming out with no sense of self-consciousness
when ur writing something and ur friend grabs ur paper to do a little heart or :) doodle
bedtime stories and lullabies
"i remembered u liked ____ so i got it for you :)"
feel free to add on

when I was like 19 or so, I was at some kind of fundraiser or something at a senior center when i started having a panic attack. I obviously fled the room to go deal with it in peace, and I ended up in a quiet hallway huddled on the floor in the corner.
after a few seconds I realized one of the people had followed me out, which scared me at first, but then he just sat down nearby and started counting out loud. it actually helped a little, and once I was a little bit calmer he started walking me through some grounding exercises.
eventually, I got up off the floor and sat down ane he asked if I was okay. I, extremely embarrassed, said yeah it just happens to me sometimes, im not sure why.
he nodded, said "happens to me too," and then was quiet for a while.
then he - this gruff 80-something year old man in a flight jacket and vfw baseball cap whose name i never learned - reached out and held my hand and said so gently "you're too young to feel this kind of fear. I'm so sorry."
and you know what? he was right, I was too young, but so was he in all his 80 years, and so is everyone else.
life can be terrifying and lonely and the world can seem cruel, but almost ten years ago an old man was kind to me, so I'll be kind too. maybe people will remember that I was kind to them, just like I remember him. maybe they won't. either way, I'll remember that act of compassion every time I have a panic attack, and I'll remember that he was kind, and I'll remember I'm not alone.
and neither was he.
and neither are you.

To believe in anarchism or anarcho-communism in any sort of fundamental way, you do have to believe that people are fundamentally good and will work together for the good of everyone. And if you don’t believe that, then you probably can’t understand anarchism.
But I’d suggest you also don’t understand people.

So anarchism is kinda sorta like communism/socialism, just less totalitarian? Doesn't sound bad to me!
Also Hobie totally makes Mayday a little battle jacket with "ACAB" on the back spelled out in toy blocks, you can't convince me otherwise on this. And when he babysits, he reads to her. "The cow says moo! The butterfly don't say nothing. The pig says you have the right to remain silent."
Basically it is like this: Communism/socialism are economic systems. They basically just say how the economy is run. They are not a political system.
Overly simplified, what happened so far went kinda like this. The Leninists basically said: "The only way to do communism, is to do an authoriterianism first, because people do not know what is best for them." With the general idea to go over to a proper democracy once a communist system had been established. But then some people got too used to having absolute power and also Stalin happened.
The basic issue is that a lot of socialist regimes to not trust their own people - and hence steer towards authoritarianism, which is why it always goes wrong.
Meanwhile anarchism is a political ideology. So, while communism says "this is how the economy should be done", anarchism is one of the "this is how politics should be run" models. And the big thing about anarchism is that anarchists believe people to be actually good and intelligent and can be trusted to properly govern themselves.
Because of the entire "no hierarchies" rule, most anarchists then also support socialism/communism as an economical system. So both goes hand in hand.
The tl;dr of the entire communism thing is:
Capitalism = Private ownership of the means of productions. Meaning, that the means of production are held by some private entities, with only few people usually having a say on how those means should be used. Because they own all of that, they also get to decide what happens to the profits that might occur, most often just keeping them.
Socialism = The means of productions are in the hand of some centralized power structure (most often the state and ideally, though not necessarily, this power structure is under some sort of democratic control). Meaning, that this centralized power will decide what will be done with the means of production and what happens to the profits. Ideally those get shared between the people the power structure governs. (But this is also why originally socialist structures so easily fall into state capitalism, like it is happening in China.)
Communism = The means of production are in the hands of the workers/people. This can either mean: You work at a company? Well, you get an equal say what happens with the means of production that are part of a company. Aka what are they going to produce this year. You also get an equal share in the profits. But can also mean: Everyone within a country gets an equal say what is produced within the country and an equal share of all the produced goods and profits.
And quick note: Means of production is basically the sort of equipment used to produce value. So, lands that might be used to cultivate crops are means of production. The equipment the farmer would use to harvest the crops are means of production. A weaving machine also would be means of production. And in the modern society those big servers an IT company would use are also means of production.
And also: Oh, yes, Hobie totally would. And I need a picture of Mayday in that ACAB jacket. That would be so adorable.

Science Says People (Specifically Kids) Are Good, Actually
okay i just rediscovered the link to one of my favourite studies ever and i wanted to share it with the class.
Koomen, R., Grueneisen, S., & Herrmann, E. (2020). Children Delay Gratification for Cooperative Ends. Psychological Science, 31(2), 139–148. https://doi.org/10.1177/0956797619894205
(it's behind a paywall, but if you can't access and you're interested i have the pdf)
This study modified the marshmallow test, where kids are asked to hold off on eating one marshmallow in order to get another one later. The study used children from Germany and Kenya, with localised treats that were familiar to the kids. 70 of the children were paired up interdependently - each pair would only get the second treat if they both held off eating the first. 69 (nice) were paired up dependently - they each thought that they were the only one of the two who had to avoid eating the treat, and 68 were doing the test as normal.
The interdependent kids were significantly better at the test than those doing the test normally - cooperation (the idea that they were doing this for AND with a friend) had a significant positive effect on their willpower ! The dependent kids were also better at the test than the solo ones - showing that children can delay gratification better when they're doing it for a friend - but not as much as the interdependent ones. Even though they knew that they were the only ones who had to hold out, the fact that they weren't doing it with a friend meant they didn't have that amazing boost of willpower. (there are small cultural differences here between the Kenyan and German children, but the overall interdependence effect holds.)
From the discussion: "Delaying gratification is often critical for cooperation to succeed. Here, 5- to 6-year-olds from two highly distinct cultures were more likely to delay gratification when their outcomes were interdependently linked than when they performed the same task alone, even though the interdependent context entailed additional risks. These findings support the notion that human cooperative relations, particularly social interdependence, critically shape cognitive performance from an early age."
i just find this study so heartening, because it's truly applicable throughout life. if you've ever done something for a friend that you couldn't do for yourself, that's this effect! our reliance on others (and their reliance on us) is hugely beneficial for ourselves and for society - how nice is that?
Similar studies:
this one again shows increased willpower in kids for the good of others !
this one shows how kids begin to give more to people that need it
this one found that kids as young as three show altruistic behaviour when it comes to the present, and by five they've developed altruism for future events !
this study found that by the age of 8, children will reject unfairness EVEN WHEN IT BENEFITS THEM !!
in summary i love people and i love children and we are all built kind it is our duty to make sure as many people as possible stay that way

Yes, society runs on the kindness of seemingly uncompensated labor. But I promise, if you stick around and stick with it- you will be compensated with the most fulfilling and meaningful life. With the richness of empathic regeneration. It will go beyond thank you. Beyond hugs and friendship and even love. Being kind to each other is the whole point. The sum of the whole will be greater than the sum of the parts.
Voluntary kindness is EVERYTHING. Today I shared kisses (the chocolate kind) with a few ladies at school.... then a very kind lady with pink hair gave me an ice cream sandwich (she didn't charge me anything :'3 which was a surprise)... and then ANOTHER kind lady came into THAT kind lady's shop just to gift her sweet grapes that she mentioned she grew out of her backyard!!! Then guess what???
The cycle continues!!!!! And we're all so grateful and smiling. We're all so much happier than we would've been just buying these things because we had to for ourselves. Everything tastes better when they're coming from someone who thinks of you and cares. I love people.
I'm hopeful for dream weavers making this happen. College students voluntarily sharing pages of textbooks and lab manuals. Kids voluntarily sharing their toys. Strangers sharing benches and holding doors open for each other. It's all in the spirit of KINDNESS. I'm so proud of the camaraderie I've seen within society and to be a part of it. I'm proud of whoever is reading this for all the nice things they've done on earth too. It might seem unnoticed or uncompensated for now but hold onto this vision. It's a positive feedback loop. It's symbiosis. It's mutual aid. It's humanity! I'm so grateful to play a part.

A little bit of happy news for your feed that, as a reader and writer, I HAD to share:
A door at a Swedish library was accidentally left open - 446 people came in, borrowed 245 books. Every single one was returned.
A Swedish library was left open/unlocked while it was supposed to be closed for the holiday. Most people didn't realize it was closed. But they didn't act any differently. It's a really sweet article.

Fun fact I learned about asking for help: sometimes... People don't mind. I mean, sometimes people do mind and they refuse to help, and that's ok. But sometimes, you ask your little sister to help you carry laundry, and she'll say okay. Sometimes you'll ask your mom to proofread an essay, and she'll be excited to get to put to use her English degree. Sometimes when you ask your older sister for homework help, she really wants to share her knowledge and feel smart. Sometimes a random stranger on the internet has been waiting to tell someone the exact way to care for magnolias. Sometimes your grandpa just wants to spend time with you, he doesn't care if it's to study for a hard test or tease him for his lack of hair. I guess, sometimes, by asking for help, you help other people.
