Finally finished this yesterday. I decided to get the audiobook version because of how bad I’ve been at reading lately. I think it was a pretty good recording. Narrated by Emilia Fox. It certainly wasn’t as bad as some of the Audible narrators that you get.
I’ve still got plenty of work to do to finish my February TBR but it’s good that I’ve got this finished. It also means I’ve got something for both review posts this week. That always makes things seem less stressful.

Intimations by Zadie Smith
Six Essays. I had a hard time reading Zadie Smith’s newest small six essays, but, as I learned while analyzing the reasons why, it tells more about me, than the author. In fact, I am exactly the kind of person that Smith writes about in her book. This is a collection of observations of current times - generational/cultural shifts, art, anxieties, ageing, social barriers etc. As if life is not generally hard enough, 2020 has been something my generation has not witnessed before.
What I admire is how calmly, yet straightforwardly, Smith hands out her commentary. It is deeply personal, readers can really sense that these are thoughts which have grown out from deep corners of her worldly contemplations. She mentions age quite a few times and there is a strong feeling reading the text that someone who has a better understanding of the world is talking to me. It’s the kind of understanding one can not gain by any other way than passing through time.
It’s also interesting how these stories that reflect us, me, the world, are the remains of what rest between overwhelming news & never-ending instagram feeds. Smith might be the only person who used the quarantine “well”, she seems have been taking the time off to actually reflect, take a step back to look and capture what’s going on around her - near & far. I love a grown up fairy tale. And The Night Circus by @erinmorgenstern is just that! It’s just magic. I just recently gave it a reread as it’s one of those comfort reads that I turn to when there is a global pandemic and I’m not supposed to leave the house. 🎪🖤 • • • “Life takes us to unexpected places sometimes. Hi! This post is a Book review which is something I would love to post more on here. So I read Everything I know about love By Dolly Alderton. Here we go The book came out in 2018, and honestly, I had no clue about the book or the author. I came across the book this year in late March, and I can officiallh say I LOVE the book. The funniest, heartwarming memoirs I have read this year. This book has everything love, friendship, heartache and anxiety that was relatable, honest and funny, the best part about it is she is not even trying to hide the worst elements about her life or sugarcoating it. Since I have finished the book, I have gone on following the author on Social media and started listening to her podcast. I would highly recommend this book!!! @dollyalderton . . . . . . #bibliophile #bookworm #vscobookstagram #igreads #bookishfeature #bookstagram #instabooks #bookreviews #booksathome #london #londonlife #literture #londonreviewbookshop #bookphotography #bookstoread #bookworm #bookish #bookcommunity #penguinbooksuk #dollyalderton #everythingiknowaboutlove #memoirs #bookinstagram #bookishlife #publishing #bblogger #booksbooksbooks #bookreccommendation #londonbookblogger (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2TnfMVH98K/?igshid=pkgorsyamqn2

Evening Book Lovers!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have to admit, it was really weird not posting yesterday! Hope you didn't miss me too much. 😂 I ended up having a much needed chill day where I watched TV, listened to an audiobook and did a puzzle. It was perfect.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today, on the other hand, I was thrown back into the stress my life has recently become. I also had a migraine so I've been very slow today. 😰⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Camp is a book that I will be reading very soon! Thank you so much to Penguin for sending out this review copy. 🏳️‍🌈⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #QOTD - Do you read audiobooks?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookworm #booknerdigans #bibliophile #igreads #bookphotography #booklover #bookaddict #ilovereading #bookbloggers #booksofinstagram #instabook #bookstagramuk #bookblogger #proofcopy #beautifulbooks #fiction #litreads #unitedbookstagram #LGBTReads #queerfictiob #camp #penguinbooksuk #bookaday #audiobooks #reader #readaholic — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2T4ExaA

When Eve Forrester is informed that a certain Guy Lester mentioned her in his last will, she cannot make any sense of it and the fact that she has to travel to the French Riviera alone in 1948, doesn’t make things easier. She is greeted with a lot of hostility by the lately deceased’s family and they, too, do not know how the young Englishwoman relates to them. Between parties of the rich and famous, the modest housewife has to solve a family secret that had been well buried for many decades. Rachel Rhys’s novel “Fatal Inheritance” is the perfect summer read, it offers all it needs for a hot day: the light-hearted lifestyle of the Côte d’Azur of a time long gone, a mysterious secret which is cleverly established and takes the whole novel to be solved and an amiable protagonist who transforms herself.

What are you reading at the moment?
This afternoon has been grey and miserable, which means it’s been the ideal day for curling up with a good book. I’ve officially put Rainbow Milk on hold so I can finish this month’s book club read. I don’t want to be rushing to finish in time again.
This book is a lovely change of pace from some of my recent reads. When buying a copy, I rejected all of the recent editions I found. They just didn’t do anything for me. Thankfully, I got my hands on a vintage Penguin triband. Another one to add to the collection.

Happy International Women’s Day to all of the rebel girls/ladies out there who Choose to Challenge!
History is full of amazing women who refused to do as they were told and it’s only right that we continue that legacy. However you decide to do it, make sure you use your power to do something positive.
As book lovers, we can simply make a choice to read and celebrate more female writers. Especially racial backgrounds that re currently underrepresented in the literary world. For hundreds of years, men have dominated the publishing.
The Western canon was carefully crafted by the patriarchy to ensure that women weren’t being tempted to ask for change. That’s why the majority of celebrated classic authors are men. Women were only deemed appropriate if they were sticking to the status quo.
Years ago, women would only be allowed to read what their father or husband let them. Now that we have the freedom to decide for ourselves why are we still listening to quite so many white men tell their stories instead of everyone else?

Which book are you most looking forward to reading?
I bought this beauty just after it came out and was hoping to fit it in this month. I’m not sure that will be possible but I’ll definitely get around to it in March. It sounds like an incredible read.
The story of two Black British people who fall in love. It’s about race, identity and masculinity. I have a feeling it’s going to be a very memorable read for this year. It’s being hailed as one of the best debuts this year and, for once, I’m inclined to give into the hype.
