St. James the Greater, Apostle
The Holy Apostle James, the son of Zebedee, was the brother of Saint John the Theologian, and one of the Twelve Apostles. He and his brother, Saint John, were called to be Apostles by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who called them the “Sons of Thunder” (Mark 3:17). It was this James, with John and Peter, who witnessed the Raising of the Daughter of Jairus, the Lord’s Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, and His agony in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Saint James, after the Descent of the Holy Spirit, preached in Spain and in other lands, and then he returned to Jerusalem. He openly and boldly preached Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world, and he denounced the Pharisees and the Scribes with the words of Holy Scripture, reproaching them for their malice of heart and unbelief. He was put to death by the sword by Herod Agrippa in Jerusalem. Eusebius provides some of the details of the James’ execution (CHURCH HISTORY II, 9).
Saint James was the first of the Apostles to die as a martyr. His followers carried his body back to Spain where he preached, and his tomb at Compostela became one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Western Europe.

Monday, July 11: Rage, “The Inner Search”
Secrets in a Weird World was seen as a bit of a comedown after the dizzying Perfect Man, and indeed it was a bit shaggier in spots.  But hindsight has proven Rage’s fourth album to be another highlight from their tightest and best lineup, and that same shagginess was still endearing at this early stage in the band’s career.  “The Inner Search” captured all of the elements that made this incarnation of the group one of the more entertaining (though not necessarily lighthearted- these guys weren’t Tankard) of the German speed/power/thrash metal scene: Peter “Peavy” Wagner’s yelping was sincere and silly in equal measure, while Chris Ephthimiadis’ frenzied drumming came up high in the mix and was arguably hookier than Manni Schmidt’s riffing.  Wagner’s lyrics were aiming for something, though the combination of garbled English and limited intellect made his wordsmithing seem more endearingly naïve than thought-provoking.  “The Inner Search” was a fun speed metal number played with both precision and enthusiasm, and had more than enough charm to make it and Rage one of the leading lights of late ‘80s German metal.

Review For ORDEN OGAN'S 'Final Days- Orden Ogan And Friends'
Review For ORDEN OGAN’S ‘Final Days- Orden Ogan And Friends’
The emerging Power Metal band ORDAN OGAN has done something I don’t recall seeing before, they have reissued their more recent release with all new vocalists. An interesting concept to say that least and it actually worked brilliantly.I give credit to frontman and producer Seeb Leverman for moving a project like this forward. The band used labelmates and friends, but that can still be a challenge…

Monday, February 4: Avenger, “Battlefield”
In Peter “Peavy” Wagner’s telling, Karl U. Walterbach changed Avenger’s name to Rage more or less against their will, but in all fairness, the Noise Records president simply substituted one generic name for another.  And it didn’t affect the music, since “Battlefield” (which opened Avenger’s Prayer of Steel) showed that Wagner had the sound of Rage’s first few records down from the beginning: the tune was a thrashy power metal number driven by his yelping and Jörg Michael’s frantic drumming.  Indeed, this track might arguably be remembered more for being one of the well-traveled drummer’s earliest recordings instead of as part of Rage’s pre-Noise history.  And for all of Walterbach’s later grousing about the quality of Rage’s output, “Battlefield” should’ve given him every indication of what Avenger/Rage was all about.
