I picked up a new plushie today that instantly made me think of Hypnos so I wanted to show off a few of my things for Him. I haven't set up an alter for Him yet but I plan to near my bed. Featured here are; New dragon plushie I got today, it's from Aura's brand called "snoozles" which I didn't notice on the tag at first but it looked sleepy & the colors remind me of Hypnos, it's also very soft! Royal Blue Peanut Beanie Baby elephant, I saw another Hypnos follower devote a royal blue elephant to Him & I had one too so I added it to His things. Dream Power cards, dream interpretation cards. They have really nice drawings on the cards & it's an easy & fun way to think about my dreams & what they mean. Sun, Moon, & Star tin, I keep the Dream cards in here + a few little trinkets. There's a few other little things around & a few more things I want to get so when I put His alter together I'll take a pic!

wait i realized my newer followers don’t know i’m a beanie babies collector so: howdy, i’m a beanie babies collector if you didn’t know.

not to be a “KIDS THESE DAYS” gatekeeper but man apparently a bunch of the tiktok kids have figured out beanie babies’ existence and are now either a) obsessing over random beanies and fucking with the collectors’ values bc of it, or b) deciding random beanies are worth 1000 dollars because they “read it online somewhere” and going “value hunting” for them. it drives me a little insane but it also makes me a little sad because they’re missing the point of it so hard and are just doing it for the current fad or because they think they can strike it rich. here’s my creed for beanie collecting:

You will not find anything valuable. At most you might be able to fish out a $40 third-gen, but you will not find anything valuable. Peanut the royal blue elephant is not waiting for you at the back of your local antique store.

Beanie babies are not cutesy and they are not TikTok memes. They are well-designed because they are not TRYING to be cutesy, they are instead simple representations of animals. Maybe it’s just me and my pathological dislike of things that attempt to be cutesy but that’s how I feel about it.

i can’t wait for the Ty Warner docuseries to come out from HBO because hopefully that will make the kids realize maybe there’s more to beanie babies than just. oh look it’s haha funny beanie baby snail from tiktoks. but also can you IMAGINE the tiktok discourse ty warner could cause.

Yes I sound like the plush equivalent of those nerds who obsess over action figures. Am aware of this LOL

The Circus

The big, bright, red and yellow striped tent could be seen from miles and miles away on the dark and dreary  hill outside of town. Decorated with twinkling bright lights that illuminated the outside, attracting all sorts of beings. Inside was a bombardment of colorful fabrics embellishing the tent; magenta, royal blue, crimson red and emerald green.

There was fire. Fire lit torches at every corner, burning bright and powerful. Carnival music poured out of the tent tantalizingly tempting any and all listeners. The circus smelt like a lot of things but they never mixed in together. One could always distinguish each and every scent that filled the air. It smelt like popcorn and candy floss. It smelt like corndogs and hotdogs. It smelt like cigarettes. The floor of the tent was covered in hay and the floor of the bleachers was covered in cigarette butts and peanut shells discarded by the visitors. 

Bleachers set up at the circumference of the tent glued down the visitors as they fell into a trance watching the captivating performances put on by the gifted entertainers, their rehearsed movements looked effortless as they caused the brightly lit fire torches to reflect light off their sparkly sequined costumes in the most magical of ways; they were dazzling. Their faces were decorated with elaborate yet bizarre makeup. 

They were right in the middle of the audience putting on an intricate and bewildering show for all to watch. And they did. They all watched and gaped, their eyes glued to the performers as each one of them, one by one performed their pieces flawlessly. The acrobats, the clowns, the jugglers, the cyr wheelers, the rope walkers; some leaping and flying through the air. And some bending fire to their own will. Some even performing with gorgeous trained circus animals like elephants and lions, executing their acts with fire and magic.

Truly, the place seemed consumed with mystical secrets of the unknown. The children in the audience saw things they never thought possible, the adults saw the otherworldly wonder that came with the magical place that was the Circus of Dire Dawa. They cheered and clapped loudly every time they were enthralled and mesmerized by their tricks.

That night was an experience they would always remember and carry with them even after leaving this place behind.

And this was what the performers lived for. The feeling of excitement that came with them entering on stage with the spotlight shining brightly on them. The feeling of being loved that came with seeing the bright smiles decorating the faces of the visitors. The feeling that came with the act they put up of being otherworldly for the sake of entertainment and the happy screams of excitement.
