Was just thinking about the real take off of fandom, and it surrounding McSpirk.
Any pop culture pagans work with these guys?
Like, the gods of the gays, the queers, those who love the sciences and arts, fandom in general. Healing for McCoy. Meditation for Spock. Acquiring new knowledge could be Spock’s domain. Crossing gender could be Jim’s, as well as calling on him for protection, for anything queer related, or even strength to get through something.
Anyone know if this has been done?

-Ganondorf’s Gloom-
Context lost in translation and how that can affect Hyrulean PC faiths.
Tumblr media
This post is heavily inspired by “Gloom vs Malice: The Untold Secrets of Gloom in Tears of the Kingdom” by QuestWithAaron on YouTube. I will be making many references to his video, including his thoughts on the Japanese texts while giving my own thoughts. His video is discussing the lore of the video games, but I will frame much of this in the context of how these revelations can relate to my own Hylian Faith and other Hyrulean based faiths.
Fans often wonder what the differences are between Malice produced and used by Calamity Ganon in Breath of the Wild and Gloom produced and used by Demon King Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom. For starters, what was localized into English Malice was the Japanese word Onnen meaning “deep-seated resentmenment.” This is a Buddhist concept referring to the essence of one’s hatred that persists throughout the cycle of death and rebirth.
Tumblr media
Pictured here is the dragon Naydra corrupted by Malice.
Gloom was actually a rather odd choice of word chosen for the English localization. The Japanese word that was used was shouki meaning “Miasma, toxic gas, bad air.” Anyone who ever watched Inuyasha should be very well acquainted with the concept of miasma. The miasma produced by characters like Sesshomaru or Naraku is in fact quite similar in function and form to Ganondorf's gloom. This shouki becomes linked with another concept known as jyaki. Jyaki is translated literally to mean "evil energy." This evil energy is a corrupting force that can infect people. We see the effects of this evil energy throughout the Legend of Zelda series, whether it is corruption of land, demonic possession, what have you.
In the Japanese text of the game, there are two words that describe how gloom or miasma affects people. These are the words mushibamu and okasareru, which refer to an invasion of the body and spirit which deteriorates physical and mental wellbeing. However, these invasions of the mind and body by shouki and jyaki can be opposed with purification.
All of this relates heavily to a term I have spoken on before which originates in Shinto thought: kegare. This kegare, or impurity, bogs us down and separates us from our connections with divinity, whether it be our own innate divinity or our relationships with our deities. In Shinto, which was a major inpiration for the Legend of Zelda series as well as my own Hylian Faith, the Kami and humans are deeply interconnected via musubi, the power of creation or becoming. Harmony. In fact, in Tears of the Kingdom, the terminology used says that the royal family of Hyrule was born from a musubi (harmonious relationship) with a tribe of Kami, referring to the Zonai.
This gloom produced and harnessed as a weapon by Ganondorf to corrupt the land and infect the people within it served to destroy this harmonious relationship which had produced so much power of creation and peace.
While I hesitate to say whether there exist literal evil figures that seek to corrupt us and our relationships with the divine, impurity absolutely exists. Whether it is generated by our own negative thoughts or feelings, harmful actions, or even literal filth, this impurity must be purified in order to maintain harmonious relationships with divinity.
Tumblr media
This image depicts Princess Zelda in BotW purifying herself in the Spring of Wisdom before praying to Goddess Hylia.
Purification is an important practice that should be used relatively often. I need to partake in this practice far often, myself. I have written of purification in past blog posts but I intend to expand on purification practices that can be used specifically in a Hyrulean PC context.

I can't recommend Animal Crossing highly enough for pop culture magic!!! the level of customization means you can basically make anything!!! even if you don't want to develop a whole island it's perfect just to have a little devotional space. Also idk but I feel like with it being on the internet it's a bit more familiar for spirits who came from video games/movies/media. Like my switch is just crystals and metal and energy. I named my switch Nin2ndo because my childhood GameCube has a spirit I named Nin so I just view this as an upgrade for them lol!
Also you can assign villagers as stand in for spirits (Pan for one of the goats or deer, Freyja for a cat, Ankha for bastet etc etc etc) and have your interactions with your fave villager be a way for you to connect with the spirit!!!

What I gave to Goddess Hylia.
Her 3D print statue of Hylia, 2 LED votive candles, a small glass bowl of water and selenite crystal to remove negative energies around.
I’m starting to make her be part of my worship. :)

Awh, where do I start with this? Part of my new years resolution (silly, I know...) is to be a bit less hesitant about exploring my spiritual and religious beliefs so here I am with my l/o/z pcp sideblog. Let's see where this goes?!

The Man of Many Masks
I would like to introduce you to my main deity. The Man of Many Masks is a very personal deity to me. I've only ever worked with a masculine face, so I refer to him with he/him. However, he contains multitudes, and I'm sure there are parts that use any pronoun you can think of. Some people may see him as a concerning deity to work with due to a lot of the verbiage he uses to describe his domains or the fact that blood can be an appropriate sacrifice, at times. He is not an easy God to work with, but he makes me feel fulfilled and like I am not alone in the way I am. I hope you can appreciate him as much as I do and consider integrating him into your practice. He has certain aspects that encourage plural folks to seek him, I believe, and have listed it as a domain of his. I don't see it as "he causes plurality" and much as he is and protects those who are plural.
Domains:
• Concealment, Deception, Doubt
• Multitudes, Plurality, Reflections
• Protection by way of hiding, information and knowledge for self protection
• Paranoia, Anxiety, Instinct
Prayer Marks
The graphic is not all exhaustive. These are just what I've figured out. Learning the language of your God is the hardest part.
Tumblr media
[Image id: bluish-white digital drawing on a black background. 8 symbols are labeled. From the top, left to right: "greeting" is a chin shape with a single line to the left inside. "Knowledge" is the chin shape with a triangle inside, pointing upwards. "Doubt" is the chin shape with 4 lines inside. Furthest left is a sideways J. Next is a short line above it. Next is a long line that goes past the top of the J. Next is a short line, shorter than all the previous. "Change" is the chin shape with a downward pointing triangle in it. "Mask is a chin shape with an oval near the top and 3 lines below it, making two eyes and a nose. "The Self" is a complicated mask. 6 vertical lines point from the chin, and are matched across the center line. The lines descend into the chin like steps. There are two off-kilter Xs in the free space on either side of the lines. "Rejection/Punishment" is the chin shape with an X in it. "The Other" is the chin shape with a total of 5 lines. One is in the center and goes about halfway down. Two on either side are a little lower but the same length. In between each line is a very short dash, making eyes. End Image id]
Communication
• Mirrors or Pools (srying)
• Tarot (masks)
Suggestions
The Man of Many Masks is very internal. Communication is often through you. The relationship tends to be very transactional and distant. This deity is very personal to me, and this guide includes a lot of UPG.

• General life: Self Defense Classes, Home Defense Classes, not just "how to defend" but "preventative measures." Hot showers. Keeping animals that choose to hide or disguise themselves. Wearing earrings or other bilateral clothing/accessories that doesn't match. Protecting your information (not just regularly changing passwords, but not disclosing more than necessary to coworkers, bosses, Teachers, landlords, strangers etc. They are not your friends and they do not need to know.)

• Burning Appropriate Incense or Colored Candles
• Mirror (dedicated, with Prayer Marks drawn onto larger mirrors), Masks (make them, display them, wear them, use mask shaped soap, etc etc)
• An array of one kind of object's variants. One of each color of a candy, a set of tabletop dice, a bunch of different novelty erasers. Show Multitudes through objects.
• Any listed correspondence can make a good offering
• Shredded documents. You could even blend them and make them into clean new paper.
Transaction/Ritual examples
• You want to know if you can trust someone. You set yourself in front of a mirror and begin meditation. Draw the appropriate marks on the mirror if large enough, on a chalkboard, paper, tablet, etc if not. Appropriate Marks may include "Knowledge" "doubt" "mask" "the self" "the other" and directional indicators like arrows, joining symbols like circles, and other grammatical symbols. Keep your face visible. When you feel sufficiently connected and like he is with you, pray and commit your offering. This should be appropriately scaled to the task at hand: consider current distance of relationship, social standing of target, and how guarded they may be. Once the offering is complete, scour your face for changes, and interpret accordingly. Consider the language of the deity, and what his communication may mean. This Ritual may be helped with steam, smoke, or other concealing things between you and the mirror.
Altar/Shrine Ideas
• Appropriately colored flowers, especially the correspondent flowers. If those are difficult to get, Fake flowers are not only acceptable, but encouraged.
• Mirrors
• Masks. Black, blue, or green masks, especially ornate ones. Any representation of the theater masks are also acceptable, and if they have meaning to you, can be used.
• Chalkboard, Whiteboard, second mirror for writing on, etc. These are important for your Prayer Marks. Choose something you can wipe off (dry or wet erase work. Wet erase is good if you plan on leaving it until next time.) Unless you're okay replacing your sketchbook from time to time.
• Candles. Blue or green. It may be hard to find candles that are the correct color with the correct Scents you want.
• Incense. See above Scents. Finding an appropriate holder can be an exciting devotional activity.

Above this is handwriting that says "mask is on mirror, glued to top." Below is handwriting that says "optional incense" and below that is an upside down house shape labeled "chalkboard." To the right is another circle, assumed to be another candle. An arrow points towards the mirror and says "The mirror has a metal frame that swirls. Flowers are woven in." End Image id]

Pop culture Paganism is an umbrella term for the transformative use of media in Pagan customs and rituals. Pop culture Paganism covers a wide variety of activities, such as revering book or film characters as deities, using pop culture figures in religious rituals and media, practicing religions or worshiping deity pantheons depicted in pop culture media, or simply depicting traditional deities as they appear in pop culture media. The consumption and creation of fannish media such as fanfiction and fancrafts can also be an important part of a pop culture Pagan's practice.
Godspousery
Godspousery is the act of engaging in an intimate relationship with one or more deities or spirits, be it courting or marrying them. Practitioners argue that there is some historical precedence for this, such as the vows taken by nuns or the rite of Hieros Gamos.[1] For PCPs, godspousery may take the form of marrying a fictional character who is seen as a guide or spirit, or marrying a traditional god that the practitioner sees embodied as a pop culture incarnation, for example Loki. Discussions of godspousery have always been associated by some kind of fandom wank, with some fans seeing godspouses as crazy or deluded, and making a mockery of their practice.
Fannish Tarot Cards
Many fan artists create sets of tarot cards as either a way to explore character meta or to practice their art skills. While the act of creating a fannish tarot set is a largely secular activity, several PCPs use fannish tarot cards as a part of their craft, either as a pop culture addition to a more traditional craft, or as an integral part to a pop-culture themed faith.
Why have I never heard this term before??

A Ritual of Purification
Tumblr media
The purification ritual will utilize my prayer the Four Goddesses but can easily be personalized to address one's primary Hyrulean deity if that is preferable or easier. In my case, I may shorten the prayer on occasion by focusing on the Lady Hylia section of the prayer until I can remember it better. In that particular situation, Lady Hylia is the protector of the Triforce and has direct contact with the Three Golden Goddesses.
Recite the Prayer of Purification either in front of your altar or with a suitable portable icon in your hands if you are traveling. For example, a miniature goddess statue you can keep in your pocket. In the case of my friend who worships the Great Deku Tree, they have found a small tree man statue that is originally part of a fairy garden set. One may choose to use sea salt, blessed sand, flour, or egg shell powder to rub onto the three Triforce Energy Centers I reference in my blog post about my Embodying the Triforce cultivation technique. You may also choose to rub the purifying agent of your choice onto you shoulders and arms. From there there are two different methods to complete the purification.
Shower:
After completing the initial preparation, step into the shower. You may choose your water temperature. Warm is more comfortable, but cold is rather invigorating and has many benefits. Take up a comfortable but meaningful posture. I recommend hands clasped over the heart akin to the posture of the Goddess Statues. It may also help to have a chant or mantra. For example, “Din, Farore, Nayru—Power, Courage, Wisdom— Purify and restore. Lady Hylia, Keeper of the Triforce, purify and restore.” I recommend repeating this at least three times while under the shower stream.
River/Waterfall/Ocean
Outdoors in natural running water is generally going to be an even more powerful practice so this is recommended to be done as often as possible though the shower practice is more accessible. Complete the same preparations and then step into the water. The same chant will work but one may also wish to recite the full Prayer of Purification while in the water.
Other thoughts and recommendations
I have my Goddess Statue that I keep on my altar but I also intend to buy a stone angel statue I can hold in my palm while I do the prayer away from home and maybe even to hold in my hands while I’m the water chanting. Often these relatively lower detail angel statues are also similar enough to a Goddess Statue and I think would serve as a great tool.
If you choose to use cold water in the shower or you’re in water outdoors that is cold, it may be helpful to practice some breathing techniques ahead of time. I plan to look a bit more into the Wim Hof method to help me better handle cold water. I also recommend taking a full breath at the beginning of each repetition of the chant.
Please feel free to share thoughts and suggestions! I look forward to hearing about your own personal practices if you’d like to share!

Cinderella: A Guide to Worship
Cinderella is the protagonist of Disney’s Cinderella (1950). She is one of the original Disney Princesses. She is an example that nothing can guarantee success and happiness, but also that your life situation can change any time. It also shows that kindness will be rewarded, while selfishness and hatred will not. She is the embodiment of hope and beauty.
There are many ways to worship her:
Learning how to ballroom dance
Learning how to walk in heels
Embracing your feminine side
Being kind to others
Helping the less fortunate
Learning how to sew
Doing household chores
Staying humble
Taking care of your pets
Feeding wild animals
Helping/volunteering at an animal shelter
Making a birdhouse
Keeping bird feeders and birdbaths in your lawn
Getting pet mice
Attending a ball/formal party
Wearing/getting a ball gown
Keeping a good relationship with your family (especially step-family!)
Growing pumpkins
Getting a grandfather or cuckoo clock
Dressing up for an event
Dressing up for no reason
Learn about her original myths
There are many things to offer her and put on an altar to her:
Castle figurines or photos
Fake or real pumpkins/pumpkin foods (pumpkin spice lattes!!)
Cleaning supplies (sprays, pastes, liquids, etc.)
Cleaning tools (brooms, mops, sponges, etc.)
Figurines or photos of things related to her story (mice, birds, pumpkins, carriages, glass slippers, ball gowns, etc.)
Sewing machines or kits
Needles and thread
Fabric

Meal that we made yesterday. Usually we reserve it for Sunday, but since our schedule was wacky I decided to switch Saturday with Sunday. Usually I cook it while burning incense and a candle at our in-home altar, then I go and break bread after prayer with our partner sys, then we have our meal.
Recipe is absolutely not vegan, apologies. There is chicken in this, but you can probably do replacement with vegetable broth and more veggies and spices.
What’s in this:
1 can of white chunk chicken
3 packets of maruchan ramen noodles
2 green onions
Chicken broth stock
Water
Chili powder
Pepper
Pink salt
Red pepper flakes
Ginger
Garlic
Teriyaki sauce
Soy sauce
Maruchan ramen powder packet
This requires a pot for noodles, a pan for the chicken, and a pot for the broth. Usually I cook the ramen and then put the noodles into the bowls, then reuse the pot for the broth.
The chicken is marinated with the teriyaki sauce, chili powder, pepper, and ramen powder. The garlic, ginger, soy sauce, water, salt, red chili flakes, and chicken broth form the soup base. Chop the green onions and put them in, followed by the chicken, then pour the broth over the dish with a fine strainer to catch the chunks of garlic and ginger.
Tonight I’m gonna be taking a leaf from @knightofhylia-sageofthetriforce and offering the rice I’m going to be using for broccoli steak rice. He said it was how it is done in Shinto practice, which many practices of Hyrule bear heavy basis from.
Blessings to you all!!
