Patronus
For years, Remus hadn’t cast a corporeal patronus. People often assumed it was because it was a wolf, and he didn’t want to be reminded of being a werewolf.
But that wasn’t it.
He cast the spell in his office, to make sure he still could before Harry arrived. He wanted to make sure he’d be able to call off the bogart dementor he was going to release from his case.
“Expecto Patronum!” he said clearly, and a silver animal burst forth from his wand tip. It was clear and fully formed. It approached him and nudged his leg with its silver head.
“Hey there, Padfoot,” he whispered as emotion clogged his throat.

When people try to make it seem like the Marauders and Severus relationship was a shared rivalry instead of outright harassment. They were 4 to 1 ! That's not à rivality !
Also, I'm tired of people saying things like :
"Yes, James and his friends harassed Severus, that's not good. But it says in the text that Severus had a disproportionate hatred for James, and cast spells on him too."
Yes. So what ? It's basically victim blaming. As if the fact that Severus defends himself wasn't normal ?! As if hating James who bullied him from the moment he met him, just for his simple existence wasn't normal ?!
I would like to understand what is going on in people's heads when they say sentences like that.
Severus scorning James is justified. Severus attacking James back is fucking justified, especially when the harassment is daily !
What is this ridiculous logic ? "Yes, James bullied Severus, but Severus wasn't any better because he hated him and retaliated."
WHAT ?!
People speaking like that should never have been harassed. It's like those hating Severus / finding it unforgivable that Severus called Lily a mudblood after being publicly humiliated by James.
Translation ; suspended in the air upside down, underwear revealed and soap in his mouth...
I think your mood, your temperament, and your control over yourself and your words would take a hit too !
I was the victim of harassment almost throughout my schooling. From my first year of kindergarten until my second year of high school ! Do you think I loved my harassers ? Do you think that after a while I didn't fight back ? Do you think that after being publicly humiliated / harassed I didn't insult even innocent people ? (And again, Lily smiled seeing her so-called friend go through this, so for me the insult was deserved, I have no regrets in saying that...) But wake up the fuc ! Go live in the real world !
There is no excuse for what James put Severus through and there never will be ! Damn, he was doing it for fun ! Pure and simple !
Also, I'm tired of seeing this bullshit like if Harry had been a girl, Severus would have had inappropriate attitudes towards him... That it would even have gone completely like in the film Swenney Todd ! But what ?! And again, I saw a very intelligent film-loving woman, or so I thought, spouting this bullshit ! FOR WHAT ?! Where does this shit come from ?! Ginny is described as looking a lot like Lily from what I remember and Severus never went after her ?!
I've seen people like Snape say this types of shit and argue that it apparently made him complex !
Why is a man grieving his former best friend trying to be better in honor of her memory considered an obsession ? Why do people say Snape was obsessed with Lily, rather than James who literally pursued her throughout school and even blackmailed her into trying to date her, and never taking no for an answer ?! Why ?!
And why is Severus' patronus taking the same form as Lily's seen as proof of obsession ?! Didn't Thnks do the same thing for Lupin ?! I don't remember anyone seeing this as obsession on his part !
In fact, when a patronus changes depending on the author, for the person we love, it is specifically to match them, and is proof of eternal love.

just started crying while watching poa bc harry never got to really know his dad yet everyone sees a part of james in him and harry was the “powerful wizard” (as stated by hermione) who was able to cast a full bodied patronus to literally save sirius but he will never get to see the proud look on his parents faces and he never got to know uncle moony and uncle padfoot and only knew sirius, his godfather who was accused of murder and was now on the run, and lupin, his former dada professor and anyways now im screaming crying throwing up

If you think that remus in wolf form is who he truly is, if his disability/illness/disease is a reflection of who he is, then you’ve never met someone with a chronic illness
His animal form (him being a werewolf) is not like the other marauders’s animal forms. He doesn’t fucking share traits with it (????) like Sirius shares traits with being a dog or Peter shares traits with being a rat
It’s just a disease (was transmitted to him like a virus would) and it manifests as a chronic illness. And yea it affects his whole perception of himself but it doesn’t define him (HE is scared it does, but it DOESN’T)
Conclusion: my boy doesn’t have wolf like traits just bc he’s a werewolf, his patronus is not a wolf and his animagus form would not be a wolf

Ok, ok, hear me out!
What do we know of the Patronus Charm? It takes the form of an animal which somehow represents the person, but not like the Animagus form exactly as it can be affected and changed, unlike it, due to circumstances, such as deep love for someone, but it also doesn't have to take a form, if the spell isn't too strong, or if the one making it prefers to hide the animal.
And what do we know about Remus's Patronus? He hides it throughout the whole PoA, despite teaching Harry the spell. And then in the end it is revealed that it's a wolf. Not a werewolf but a wolf.
Now let's go back for a moment to how it represents the person in a way but it can also be changed. I feel like the whole part of a wolf but not a werewolf (that are supposed to still be pretty close to actual wolves, not the movie... thing that gives me chills with how ugly it is) indicates that Remus is not completely associating himself with the werewolf thing, even though we know it has left a mark on him and he struggles with it a lot. But his Patronus is still not that exactly. Also, just a wolf doesn't scream "I'm a werewolf" really. But he still hides it. Yeah, it could be panic and overthinking but it could be something else too. What if he doesn't hide it from others but because he doesn't want to see it because it hurts him?
And let's go for a moment to Half-Blood Prince where Harry sees Tonks's Patronus and he first thinks it's a dog and thinks it's about Sirius until in the end it turns out it's a wolf. And let's remember that the books are from Harry's POV and he's not the most observant.
What I'm trying to say with this whole thing is, what if he did that mistake twice? What if Remus's Patronus was not a wolf but a dog?! (We know he had felt guilty and wanted to tell Dumbledore that Sirius is an Animagus but somehow couldn't and he did think he betrayed them all and what if that's why he didn't want to see the form of his Patronus)
I know it's a hot take and I'm slightly delulu and lots of people are gonna come up with different arguments as to why no, it's indeed a wolf but still...

Here the furry versions of our "the marauders" and our dear Severus Snape, maybe some drawing will follow, the furry versions are based on their patronus or animagus forms, what I want to draw will surely be a line where Remus has a love interest in Severus, and maybe Severus is not so reluctant to realize it, although who knows, maybe there is more than one interested in Severus, and maybe Sirius and James are not very happy with Remus' decisions.

trying to get into writing with one of @wolfstarmicrofic's october prompts. let's see how it goes...
Prompt: Patronus
The moon was high in the sky, thankfully showing itself as a simple line among the stars, and Remus Lupin was still in the library.
It was way past supper. In fact, it was almost curfew, but the boy insisted on reading over and over again the same pages of his arithmancy book. He had NEWTs on that subject the very next day, and he refused to get a bad grade. He could not bear to see a D in his results.
But he was exhausted. His eyes felt heavy, his head hurt from the lack of food and water, and he hadn’t left the castle to enjoy the beginnings of summer in days, too busy with exams. He desperately needed a break.
As his eyes start to close and his mind to drift away, he catches a glimpse of something silver.
Rubbing his eyes to shake the sleep away and straightening his back, he got a better look at that shining thing.
It was a dog. A huge dog, almost the size of a bear, and it was standing right in front of him.
Sirius patronus’s.
“Moonyyyyyyyyy, come to bedddddddddd.”
Remus rolled his eyes, but smiled fondly at his boyfriend’s way to call him back.
“It's late, Moons! And you still haven't eaten! You need to eat, Moony. And sleep. Like, a lot. I know you haven’t been sleeping properly in the past days, and you need to rest baby!”
He knew his boyfriend was right, but he was still scared. What if he failed badly? What if he got a Dreadful? Oh Merlin what if he got a Troll…
“And I know you. I know you’re scared about your grade, but you’re one of the best students in that class Remus! Remember those brilliant papers you wrote that got you many Es and even Os? You know what you’re doing baby, and you’ll do great on your exam tomorrow!”
Biting the inside of his cheek and staring at the silver dog, he started debating with himself. He really didn’t want a Troll, but he was tired, the pain in his head was reaching his muscles, and he really missed his bed.
“And if that wasn’t enough to convince you, which probably wasn’t, I know you… I got your favorite chocolate and some cuddles waiting for youuuu.”
And that was all Remus needed to grab his books and run back to his dorm, heading right into the comfort of the sweet treat and his boyfriend’s arms.

@wolfstarmicrofic - prompt: olive - post PoA in a world where Sirius finds Remus
The first winter out of Azkaban should feel warmer than this.
Sirius sits outside, the snow-draped garden is blinding in a winter sun that does nothing to warm him, and he is too numb to move. He stares at the willow in the corner, every single of its frost-coated branch a dangling harsh whip in the wind. It's been a whole day since the full moon, and Remus has just come back, barely dragging his feet to the sofa before collapsing.
Sirius doesn't know how long has passed before Remus comes to sit by him.
"You shouldn't have gone to the ministry cell alone." Sirius says, even though they both know there's nothing Sirius could have done. He is barely held together himself, and only because the parts are frozen in place.
Remus shakes his head in mute understanding. He snaps his fingers a few times, curses when the familiar blue fire doesn't come, then sighs, withdraws his wand and tightens his brows with the incantation:
"Expecto patronum."
The form of the large dog that bursts forth surprises him. He turns to Remus, question in his eyes.
Remus smiles wryly, and says, "I've been hiding the corporal form from myself, even. Padfoot's never left me, wherever you were."
It shields them with the force of its etheral glow. It's not warm. But familiar, consoling.
"I've lost mine." Sirius confesses quietly.
Remus doesn't reply, only takes his hand and squeezes. And Padfoot— Remus' Padfoot, comes to sit at their feet, resting his head comfortingly on Sirius' knee.
-
By late spring, Sirius finds more strength in his frame. He could run with Moony again, and let Remus lean against him the next morning, while waiting for Remus to wake. This time, they cuddle at the foot of a lone great oak, somewhere in the depths of English woods. It's the only tree in sight that hasn't yet joined the riot of bursting green. But even from its worn knotted and knarled trunks, baby green shoots are just starting to emerge.
The wolf is still vicious, but has learned to be tamer, more trusting, after months of company by someone who'd loved him once, in old memories distant as a dream. Padfoot is not yet strong enough to scuffle with him as they used to, but neither does the wolf scuffle much now.
Sirius twirls his new wand in his fingers, hesitates for a moment longer before enouncing,
"Expecto Patronum."
The space around them glows for a moment, then fades away. He swallows his disappointment. At least it's brighter than it was a few days ago.
Remus' patronus is still Padfoot. He saw when they had the run-in with Dementors let loose.
"Expecto patronum." He whispers again, and watches the same blue wisp of light rise for a moment then fall. He can hardly explain to himself the obsession with this spell. Maybe there's just something he wants to prove to himself. To Remus.
-
It's a night at the height of summer when he finally gets it. In the shade of a new moon, the sky-full of pinpricks of stars are burning bright as ever. Sirius sits on the olive stump, whose new shoot has itself become a fully-grown tree. Its bristling branches, full with ripening olives, hides away almost half the sky. Under his feet, the grass is dry and warm even long after sunset. But he can't help but be sceptical of warmth, despite it having been so long.
As if sensing his unease, Remus finds him, and tacitly sits down on the ground, his back against Sirius' legs and head resting on his knee.
"What's wrong?" Remus asks.
"Nothing." Sirius says reflexively.
Remus leans further back, and catches his eyes. In them, Sirius can see the whole of the sky.
Sirius hesitates still.
"Go on." Remus encourages. "I've noticed, you know, you and the spell."
"Since when have you learned to read minds?" Sirius lets out a breath in wonder. But he finds his resolve, and casts.
"Expecto Patronum."
Padfoot greets him once again. The feeling in his chest is a mad swirl of pride and a strange sinking. Shouldn't it have been— if Remus' patrnous is—
"Funny." Remus only grins at Padfoot with unadulterated joy, "I noticed something a while ago." And wordlessly, Remus swishes his wand for the same spell, and the four-legged animal that jumps to meet them is—
"Moony." Sirius barely murmurs. For a moment his head rings with the rush of emotion and it all becomes clear, clear as the moon-less night sky. And he remembers. James' patronus was never the doe, neither was Lily's ever the stag.
"I've missed seeing him," Remus says, as they both watch the two patronuses leap and chase and play all around them, leading a dance of light bright as the whole of the sky.
"Me too."

When Sirius finally was able to cast his full patronus, the marauders were overjoyed. It took him the longest out of all of them and the rest or their year to get it.
So, the following year, James wasn't sure how to help Regulus when he had a similar problem. One day, however, he got it. It clicked for him, and he was able to cast it with ease. His patronus was a black cat, a small quick creature that moved faster than Pandora's rabbit patronus, which had previously been the fastest one.
James asked him many times what memory he used, but Regulus would only blush and tell him to piss off every time.
Eventually, James got the truth from him, however.
The memory that was strongest was the first time they kissed.

People always say James was probabaly in awe seeing Lily's patronus for the first time
BUT IMAGINE, SNAPE WENT AFTER LILY
James was already in awe seeing Lily conjure a doe and trying to stop himself from blushing cause Sirius, Remus and Peter cant stop teasing him
Professor: Severus, youre next. Focus on your happiest memory
Snape conjure the same patronus as Lily
James: ....
Sirius : ...
Remus : ....
Peter : ....
Lily : ....
The entire class : ....
Sirius whispers to James : whoops, guess your real soulmate is Severus
I can bet that the three of them wouldn't stop teasing James for the entire day

i will never stop talking about severus snape because that man is a walking paradox. how are you obsessed with dark arts but you have such a huge capacity to love? love. the very thing that actively repels the dark arts. you can hate him all you want, i don't care. but i think his story is kind of beautiful. because no matter how much he was drawn into darkness, he was always going to be drawn out. because his capacity to love is within his very nature. this is what dumbledore meant. that was the best of him. it always was. i wonder. did snape know how big his capacity for love was? that it was capable of extending outside of lily? because he denies it. rips photos. but puts his life on the line for so. many. people. i am just sad that he couldn't see how capacity for love was the best of him, because he thought it was humiliating. but it wasn't. it was wonderful. even if it was only for one person. it was enough. enough to change the course of the forces of darkness. enough to help train up a new generation of aurors. members of the order. he's a death eater but can produce a patronus. pure energy that is made from happiness. hope. love. a positive force. against one of the most natural allies to lord voldemort. his primary motivation for joining the death eaters was to win back lily. how is your motivation for joining the death eaters motivated by love? that is not the point of being a death eater, it works against their very principles. conflict of interest doesn't even cover it.
