Bestseller
I’ve been reading Patricia Cornwell for many years. The “Scarpetta” novels are following the life of Dr. Kay Scarpetta a medical examiner. It’s a series of crime novels, where the body leaves clues to solve the crimes. I just finished “Autopsy” and really enjoyed it. One of the victims led the investigation to the International Space Center, and that was very interesting. It’s amazing that a…

Qotd: what authors haven’t you read but keep meaning to? . AOTD: Patricia cornwell is one for me. She’s extremely popular in a genre I like, but for some reason I have never picked one up. The blurb for this one is below and you can find a copy in my Amazon store in the link in my bio. In this thrilling installment of the #1 bestselling series, chief medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta finds herself a reluctant star witness in a sensational televised murder trial causing chaos in Old Town Alexandria with the threat of violent protests. Chief medical examiner Kay Scarpetta is the reluctant star witness in a sensational murder trial when she receives shocking news. The judge’s sister has been found dead. At first glance, it appears to be a home invasion, but then why was nothing stolen, and why is the garden strewn with dead plants and insects? Although there is no apparent cause of death, Scarpetta recognizes telltale signs of the unthinkable, and she knows the worst is yet to come. The forensic pathologist finds herself pitted against a powerful force that returns her to the past, and her time to catch the killer is running out . . . . #thriller #bookstagram #newrelease #bookstagrammer #igreads #suspense #mystery #igreads #igbooks #instabook #instareads #picoftheday #photooftheday #booklover #booklover #readersofinstagram #igdaily #patriciacornwell #newbooks #bookmail #foryou #fridaynight #friday #bookish #newtome #creepy #bookworm #booknerdigans #booknerd #instagood #love (at Columbus, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjJbS6fLMqJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Book Review
Tumblr media
Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwell My rating: ★☆☆☆☆ This book is just horrid. Once again there are too many plot holes and it's entirely too contrived. In my previous review of The Last Precinct I said that I hoped the writing would improve; it has not. It's gotten so incredibly bad -- especially the dialogue -- that it's really difficult to follow. The main characters have devolved so much that they're not the same people anymore. There's no way that the Pete Marino from the early books would even contemplate what the Pete Marino of this book did. In the past 30 years why hasn't anyone told Patricia Cornwell that the phrase let's don't is wrong? It's either let's not or don't let's. I'm really sick of reading let's don't over and over, and in every single one of her books. I have only heard a few people in real life say let's not and that was literally only in the phrase let's not and say we did. I have never heard anyone say don't let's, and obviously never heard let's don't. Cornwell writes as if this phrase is so common that everyone says it constantly, not just one person as part of a character trait. And how bad are her editors that they keep allowing this incorrect phrase into her books again and again? Clearly pretty bad to allow this atrocious book to go to print as is. Another thing that annoyed me personally, as a tennis fan, was not mentioning Roland Garros [a.k.a. the French Open]. The tournament the victim was supposed to have won is in early spring; the Italian Open, another mentioned tournament, is in mid spring. Roland Garros is the next major [a.k.a. Grand Slam], played a couple of weeks later. More than once Wimbledon was listed as a big upcoming tournament, but it's not played until after Roland Garros. It doesn't make sense to me that Cornwell would research tennis enough to write about it, then ignore one of the four major tournaments of the year. Or perhaps her research person failed her on this subject. Either way, it took me out of the book because it was unrealistic to my pedantic self. Date read: 29 Nov 2019 - 12 Dec 2019 See all of my reviews

As a writer, there will always be another author that you admire and will inspire you. I always loved Nicholas Evans, Anne Rice, Nicholas Sparks, James Patterson, and of course, the all-inspiring Stephen King. While most recently, I discovered Patricia Cornwell. They are all different types of writers, but all equally brilliant. I read as much as I can, which helps expose me to different writing styles. It can expand your vocabulary. And reading a variety of genres helps to learn text structures and language that will help you transfer to your own writing. So, tell me, which authors inspire you? KSCarson
