As I passed I saw a cafe, a cafe on the street, with an open door, and one small round table outside, just big enough for two persons, two glasses of wine, two small iron chairs, a diminutive cafe…shabby, with a faded sign, a dull window, lopsided walls, uneven roof. The smallness of it, the intimacy of it, the humanity of its proportion… A human being feels one can sit in such a cafe even if one’s hair is not perfectly in place and one’s shoes are not shined... One could sit there and feel unique, feel in tune with the world, or out of tune, feel human and open to human emotion... One could sit there if one felt the world too big and too barbaric, and feel once more in a human setting, a proper setting for a human being… Why did I feel warmed by imperfections, discomfort, and patina? Because intense living leaves scars…inner scars, softened, human wear and tear.

RESTAGED TOUR STAR PRINCESS FOOTWEAR GALORE

ROW 1: First UK look was white satin shoes with rosetta. For the premiere in 2012 they were worn with thick black stockings, but the stockings didn't last long. However, the shoes were kept for some time. This was worn by Katie Hall and (I assume) Olivia Brereton and Leigh Coggins, and they wore them with fairly standard UK costumes.

ROW 2: Revamped look in the UK was pink satin shoes with high heel and pointed toe. These were worn both with the standard UK costume and the stripped-down version they introduced during the run. These pink shoes were also worn by Julia Udine when the tour opened in the US in 2013.

ROW 3: New pink shoes introduced early in the US tour, with a tounder toe, a T-strap covered by an organza (?) tongue and brooch, and with a slight gold paint patina. I think they were introduced around the time Katie Travis became principal in 2014, and they were worn by most if not all US tour Christines up until the closing in 2020.

ROW 4: A closer look at the new pink US shoes.

ROW 5: The new pink US shoes worn with very different costumes; a vintage Las Vegas one, and the new stripped-down style. I would claim it was a better match to the latter.

ROW 6: Lo and behold! Boots! These were introduced as the tour opened in Australia in 2022 and the costumes got a revision. The boots had various grade of blue ombre outlined with silver, and with pink lacing. These were worn by Amy Manford, Bridget Costello, Kayleigh Marven and presumably Claire Lyon, and they wore a pimped up version of the stripped-down costume.

ROW 7: Alas the boots didn't make it into the Austrian premiere. Here a fifth look was introduced: Heeled pink strap shoes with pink "jewelled" rosetta or buckle. These were worn by Lisanne Veeneman at the opening in March 2024, and I assume it is what the other Christines will wear as well. The costume looks fairly similar to the Aussie ones.

I bought the p5 manga volumes I didn't have yet and while I probably won't buy further ones (the art is still. pretty eh and not even in the funny way some earlier things were) I do find it interesting how Yoshizawa's first awakening is changed in the manga.

"Clumsy child. Instead of remaining cloaked in cinders... you choose a fake patina of glory and splendor, is that it? But...very well. If that is your choice...then we'll stick with it to the bitter end."

contrast to in-game

"Rather than accept a life in cinders... You'd strive toward splendor--you know the risk... Well, if those really are the shoes you've chosen... Then we'll dance to the end."

This is likely a translation issue with one of them because both phrases seem very close in wording but are different enough to totally change the meaning. I'd guess it's the manga, and yet it's the more interesting one to me for Cendrillon calling her out lol
