You get used to it and eventually it's not a problem anymore. Guz would have dealt with this on a zero-gee trainer airplane if she had stayed in the space program, or experienced it in a training simulation in Earth Orbit or a holosuite at Starfleet Academy, but the Violet's crew like to make sure passengers from backwater worlds get their space legs as soon as possible.

do you know what my driver's ed course was? "don't drink and drive, the gas is on the right, use your signal when you turn, and don't drink and drive. here is your learner's permit, if you go a few months without fucking up you will get a full license. please do not drink and drive."

which is insane to me, because as an 18 year old i probably should not have been given clearance to drive a several tonne death machine??

anyways I'm saying this because I've been driving for nearly a decade now, and dear god. there's a lot of people who just should not be on the road. i understand that this is a car-based country and we do not actually fucking have public transportation. but like. if you are operating a several tonne death machine you should ideally know how to do so in a way that does not make other people fear for their lives. If I am sitting and waiting to turn, I should not be in danger of nearly having the front of my car taken off because YOU decided that driving on the right side of the road was for squares, actually.

I know I’m preaching to the choir on tumblr but I am so FED UP of not being able to walk to places that are really close to me because it is assumed that everyone has a car and would only use their feet for recreational purposes so there are long stretches of road with no path alongside them, and no public paths that don’t take you six miles out of your way for what should have been a quick trip to the next village over. 

#Sure I could walk along the road- if I wanted to get killed by Roddy the Perthshire Boy Racer #Or Gordon the estate agent in his fancy car speeding because he just can't be late for his meeting #Not to mention being right across the dual carriageway from somewhere but having to go the long way round #So I want to cross the road then walk uphill to the village which should only be a mile on foot at most #But sadly there was a traffic jam in the middle of Dundee so the traffic is backed up halfway to Perth #And I can't cross the dual carriageway without getting uncomfortably close to frustrated people in SUVs #So I now have to go two miles down the road to find an underpass and then walk back up the other side of the road #which often doesn't have a path just a badly cut verge; all the while breathing in petrol #All of this takes nearly two hours for what was essentially CROSSING THE ROAD #There should be pavements beside all public roads though no matter how small this is a hill I will die on #And a footbridge or underpass for every turn off #People who live in the countryside shouldn't need to take their lives into their hands just to walk from their house to the nearest town #The alternative being to hike uphill through somebody else's woods where you can never be sure if they're shooting and cross a river #This taking you out of your way by about four miles and then you have to carry your shopping all the way back again #The roads belong to foot passengers (and horses) first #Cars only came along in the last hundred years but they've taken over and people don't seem to realise it

I got off the phone a few minutes ago with the police I was leaving the courthouse for a work errand and this car behind me was also leaving and they kept honking because they wanted me to turn but there was so much traffic that I couldn’t turn and they kept pulling up on my bumper and they hopped the sidewalk to try and go around me but they were going to hit my car that way so I had to risk it and pull out into traffic because I thought that was a better chance of not getting hit and they pulled up beside me and stopped and rolled their windows down screaming at me and starting throwing water bottles at my car and I’m still shaking and like that just feels like such an insane thing to do just because you wanted to turn quicker especially right next to a courthouse

#my car has a few dents from the water bottles but it’s not as bad as it could have been #like there was so much traffic and you know there’s cops right there because it’s the courthouse and you still did that? they were so angry #at me too when they were screaming and throwing things I felt like they were going to hurt me #and like it’s 2pm on a Thursday it doesn’t benefit anyone to behave like that #im back in the parking deck at work now and I’m honestly nervous to walk the half a mile back to the office because people in this city are #absolutely out of their fucking minds #the passenger reached into a bag in the back to get the water bottles and for a second I thought he was reaching for a gun there’s so many #people that die every day here from getting shot for stupid shit like this it’s just not fair
