I joined to make new friends and maybe find a partner. I filled out all the info that was required, which was quite simple and helpful. It can be quite a lot to face, the thought of starting all over again, but I decided to have a go. Then I started to browse through and to my surprise there were a lot of men in my partner matchlist. I read through their profiles and sent messages to about three guys but only one answered. It was something about the reply I got and the photo on his profile. First, thanks for all the posts, comments, and answers in this subreddit. I have read a lot here and found many good pieces of advice.I know a thing or two about geospatial technology and I like to help people. Whatever problem I hear about, my brain goes: “How could geospatial data contribute to a solution?” My goal is to have a legit company that operates globally with a focus on Europe and Asia, delivering geospatial engineering and consulting services to other businesses, NGOs, and governments.No productI do not have a product or something and I did not come up with a solid idea or business plan so far. I just think that spatial analysis, mapping, satellite imagery, remote sensing, location strategy, GPS, GIS, and cartography is a very powerful set of tools that can a) be applied to many domains, and b) helps tremendously in understanding the world we live in. Maybe this is a biased opinion …CompetitionIt is not a novel idea and there are a few large corporations (say ESRI) and lots of smaller businesses that offer similar work. Is just delivering good work and good advice enough? Should I narrow my expertise as much as possible at the beginning (say ground deformation monitoring with microwave satellite imagery), OR offer all kinds of services in the geospatial domain and see what works and what does not.Start with freelancingAt this point, I am on a budget and could only work as a freelancer, doing everything by myself and/or direct work to other freelancers in the geospatial domain to help out. Reaching out to potential clients would be my next step, growing my network through conferences, talks, and personalized emails – essentially looking for people/companies I want to work for because I want to support their work. I looked at websites of potential clients and I feel like I am too slow with that.
