Terri is recuperating from surgery and we have forced her to take a few days off. So this week, we're looking back at some of our past discussions on encounters with sickness, health, and health care. Today’s chat is originally from 2016. Do your kids represent themselves to their pediatrician, or are you the one doing all the talking? How can you transition teens and young adults to self-advocacy so you can be released from the room where it happens (and the pressure of being the family medical caseworker)? Finding the right doctor helps, unsurprisingly.

Make the dang goal. I’m hearing a lot of behind the scenes laugher and mocking of New Years resolutions these days. I get it. Most of them don’t work out and are more like the smokey wisps of a birthday wish candle. I understand that we are realists and don’t have time or energy for childish fancy. But why not? I for one still choose to have hope that I’m capable of hard things. Life IS hard, and that’s exactly why I KNOW that I need to dream for a minute. The full truth is that many of us are so firmly planted in our current reality that dreaming of a different one, no matter how slight, is beyond frustrating and harsh. We begin to believe the LIE that we are NOT made for more, and we should be “content” where we are. Don’t ignore what’s real in your world. But DO ask yourself this question and actually LISTEN to your inner heart cry response WITHOUT judgment or giving all the logical reasons for “why not”. Here’s the question: “If I could _____, how would I?” Deep inside you have childlike faith and a dreamer just waiting to be set free. Consider that we JUST celebrated the birth of Jesus, who gave us the ultimate HOPE. Who said that He CARES about our deepest desires. If I could be debt free, how would I… If I could have an amazing marriage, how would I… If I could change careers, how would I… If I could get in better shape, how would I… If I could lose weight, how would I… If I could read more books, how would I… If I could have better credit to buy a house, how would I If I could go back to school, how would I If I could … You are wise, you ARE made for more, and you are WORTH dreaming of new goals for 2023. Stop accepting our culture’s negative mindset. Be a rebel. Choose to have HOPE. #newyear #resolution #goals #love #healthcoach #weightloss #shred #mombod #parentingteens #parenting #momhumor #reallife #doitright #dohardthings #hope https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmu-mxyrk7Z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Finding the Christmas Magic
Driving home from my parents’ house Christmas Eve felt different than in years past… the car was quieter than usual, and my youngest stated she felt like something was missing. At 16 and 19, their days of wearing red velvet dresses with matching bows and leaving cookies out for Santa are a distant memory, but for me it’s as if it was yesterday. They used to ask daily when Santa was coming,…

For the #middleschoolteacher, too. ❤️ #truth #grace Posted @withregram • @brookeromneywrites Middle school is such an exciting time full of growth. I wanted to share a few words to all the parents going through it for the first time. It’s truly one of my favorite stages, even with all the hard stuff that comes with it. You can do this and so can they! If your kids have been through middle school already, what is the best advice you can give someone just starting this path? If your kids are heading there, what questions or concerns do you have? Let’s help each other out! #middleschool #backtoschool #backtoschoolletter #middleschoolideas #parenting #parentingteens #parentingtweens https://www.instagram.com/p/ChWPNg4uP4L/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
