#parentage and inheritance of titles
Text
One aspect of the House of Feanor I’d like to talk about is the idea that they all really love children. Like Feanor has seven sons more than any other elf we’ve ever heard mentioned. You’re telling me this guy doesn’t really love kids? So I like to believe that all the Feanorians are all inherently great with kids and just melt every time they see a child.
Feanor hates his half brothers for the whole Indis thing but he’s the only one who gets away with hating them. Anyone else tries it and they are hit with the full force of an angry Feanor. Yes he hates them but he will also be tutoring them because how else will he make sure it’s done right and they won’t disgrace Atar? And no he was not just bouncing Arafinwe on his lap what are you talking about?
Curufin is an excellent father which he inherited from his own father. Tyelpe also has six uncles who never tire of spending hours playing with him. They all fight for the title of best uncle and Tyelko very firmly believes it is him.
At family gatherings it is understood that no matter your reservations about Feanor’s side of the family if there is an upset child a Feanorian will know how to deal with it. Feanor himself will rarely object to being handed a crying baby regardless of it’s parentage. Maedhros has been the assigned babysitter for what feels like an eternity and his abilities are regarded as near magic.
This does not go away once they get to Middle Earth. The Feanorians all go to great lengths to provide adequate parental leave in their armies and frequently stop round to check in with any new parents to meet the child. They know all the names of most of their followers children and ask about them regularly.
One of the first things that endeared Caranthir to Haleth was how kind he was with some of her younger relatives. The children of the Haladin all love him because he plays with them sometimes and brings them little sweets. His good with children instincts are activated with any child regardless of race and it helps him build relations with other races more easily.
When Maglor brings Elrond and Elros back Maedhros is a lost cause within a month. He knows this s unhealthy on so many levels but children. They’re so innocent and tiny and he’s going to protect them. They are both referring to them as their children within a week.
Elrond inherits this. Erestor and Glorfindel see his adoption problem and immediately think oh shit our lord is definitely a Feanorian.

Daemon Targaryen x Martell!Reader
Tumblr media
The floor of the Mirrored Place was cold under your bare feet, the entire palace was dim; other than a few candles that reflected light from one mirror to the other. Leaving the barren hall with a warm glow. There used to be much light in this hall before; when your mother and you danced. The entire Dornish court would gather to enjoy in the art your had inherited from her.
She was a Lysenese courtesan, thought to please men with her dancing from a young age. Her will to dance was different, not because it earned her a coin but she found solace in the sound of the music playing for her body to move on her own terms.
You were raised within the group of these courtesans, a sister hood that protected you at all costs. The reason you learned to dance was for the sheer entertainment of the other sisters, and an unshaken will to mirror everything your mother did. However everyone of them knew your fate since the day you learned to walk, you too would inherit the title of court dancer at the ripe age of five and ten. They protected you still, keeping you hidden in the back of the numbers performed.
Then came along Qoren Martell, on his many ventured to Essos and a budding relationship with the Triarchy, he had found your mother dancing for the Lys court; he had eyes for her and only her after that. The deal may have not been affluential and yet he returned home with your mother and a sister for his daughter Aliandra.
The court at Sunspear was different, mother only danced for familial festivals and taught various girls at court to dance for her joy. No one quite picked it up like you did. Qoren had an entire place made for her, the interior made completely of mirrors for her to dance in.
She passed ten summers before.
You danced for her memory, not on familial events or as a courtesan, Qoren would have anyone’s head if they even mentioned the possibility to you, as far as he cared you were his daughter. Blood or not. You danced in the secrecy of this abandoned palace, alone where only the walls could hear the jangles of your mother’s given ghungroos
That brought you today, and what ails your troubles.
Your marriage to prince Daemon Targaryen wasn’t one of secret, Daemon was sent as envoy from King’s Landing, hoping to settle the issue in the Stepstones. Again, the deal wasn’t particularly affluential, yet the Targaryen prince gained a wife. You.
It was a quaint Valyrian traditional wedding, one with your approval.
You’d fallen for the prince, and what was Qoren to do? Tell his beloved flower no? No she couldn’t have the dragon prince that wanted her just as much.
A royal wedding without the approval of king or his court was a dangerous affair, hence both you and Daemon remained at Old Palce, awaiting news. Whether you’d be presented or court or if Daemon was to whisk you away on his dragon to Pentos.
Daemon only grunted and groaned when you asked who would oppose what the dragon prince wanted
“Otto Hightower.”
Daemon’s words came true like a dying wish, a raven did indeed arrive from king’s landing that Qoren showed you first.
Vile words were used against you, as the king’s hand gathered information of your parentage and the two years you had worked as a court dancer with your mother.
Not that they were lies; you were a bastard, not even a Sand. Yet Qoren had fought tooth and nail to title you and your mother as princesses. Moreover they questioned your purity and how it would muddle the pure Targaryen blood Daemon seems to possess, concerns of what influence I might impose on his daughter by his late lady wife Laena. You grimaced at the thought of even teaching those young girls what the court at king’s landing insinuated. They weren’t wrong in their concerns, and here you hadn’t even told him you danced let alone that you were a courtesan.
Qoren believed that if he could have wed your mother while begin the head of the Martell family, what is a mere second son who cannot accept the apple of Qoren’s eyes. You had left the matter at that, hoping to just let it drown behind your thoughts.
Daemon wouldn’t shun you for this…would he?
The family had gathered for supper, rather large sum of Sand sisters and Aliandra along with your husband and your step daughters. Qoren frowned at your empty seat though he knew exactly where you would have gone after reading that letter.
You’d bent down to ties the ribbons securely against your ankles, the gold ghungroos held weight to them, yet for you moving them was as fluid as a swan. You tapped your feet twice, feeling the tightness of them before exhaling a ragged breath. You tucked the loose end of your shawl on the waist line of your skirts.
Your imagination did the work for you, hearing the beat of the percussion and flute in your head as you hummed the melody under your breath, rhythmic jangles of the bells on your ankles began to echo through the hall. You closed you eyes, picturing your mother dancing next to you. The smile on her face, finally dancing for her love of the art and not the perversions of men.
Your skirt flared out as your twirled, glimmering in the light of the candles, you kept dancing. Following every count in your head as you hands remembered the signs to make. The hard your feet tapped against the marble floors the louder the jangles echoed.
Your life wouldn’t be different if Daemon left you for knowing the truth, but you wondered if anyone would want you because of what you were forced to be. You moved around the room efffortlessly, you hips swaying at the imaginary sound of the strings.
You hadn’t realized your eyes watered until you flinched in fear, watching your husband leaning against the grand posts of the mirrored hall. You stopped, the twirl of your skirts coming to stop and pool around your legs.
His palms crashed together in an applause, a smile of admiration of his face. You noticed the parchment in his hands and he noticed you eyeing the message.
“Do you truly think I care if you were a courtesan?” He shook his head, moving towards you “You were a child.” He scoffed.
You blinked the tears of concern away, you couldn't help from a few others falling free too
“My mother found her prince in Qoren, I believed so had I in you and then this.” You felt vulnerable, “I would never expose your daughters to such vulgarity, that's why I never danced for them and I was pure on our wedding night; I swear it. I wou-” You rambled on, Daemon’s eyes softened as he held you face, he held moved his thumb atop your lip to shush you
“My love isn't so fickle that bloodless sheets would diminish its fire. You are mine, and I yours. I sweared it by fire and blood sweet girl.” He reassured you “That ought to mean something?”
“You would forsake your family for me?” You shook your head, unwanting of such loyalty.
“That cunt of hand is not my family, these are his words; not my brother’s” He sounded irked at the parchment. “I will present you to the court as a good and honourable princess of Dorne, if anyone has objections they may rely on it to Dark Sister.”
You were left speechless, perhaps you had found the right prince after all. You tried to make words form at the tip of your tongue and yet nothing came through
“And as for you dancing,” His voice lowered “You ought dance for your lord husband more often.”
You swatted his shoulder before throwing yourself at him, you nuzzled your face at the crook of his neck. He moved her head, letting his lips capture yours, moulding them and taking charge; exploring your mouth with his tongue. He had been so heated about it you had to pull away to breathe
“Caught me a little dancer.” He whispered, bending down to lift your over his shoulder
“Daemon!” You shrieked “What are you doing!”
“Admiring the art.”
He plopped you down onto the viewing nest, a collection of heavy comforters a pillows that were laid at the edges of the halls for people to lounge.
“We can’t- what if somebody catches us?” You argued as he adamantly began to to strip you like a child pawing at his present.
“Then they will find a prince worshipping his princess.” He said in annoyance, huffing at all the ties on your blouse. He then reached for his inner pockets and threw a key your way.
You sighed in relief, the doors to the palace were locked.
“So fucking beautiful,” He groaned as you breasts spilt free of it entrapment, he immediately latched on the pebbled flesh, suckling on one as her tweaked the other. You chest heaved, feeling his warm mouth assault your breasts. He unlatched himself before paying attention the the other.
“My pretty little wife.” He breathed out, pushing your skirts up and yanking the cotton leggings underneath off your legs. He leaned back onto his legs admiring your cunt, he let a glob of spit dribble onto your folds as his fingers smeared them all over.
One hand working on the eager bundle of nerves and the others scissored at you insides, that familiar warmth of pleasure began to spread through your body as whimpered from your husband. You ghungroo’s jangling as you spread your legs further. Daemon latched himself onto your bud, frantically licking at the little things. You shrieked out his name, feeling him smirk as he took you apart on his mouth.
Just as you reached the precipice of your pleasure he pulled away. A shameless whine tore through you making Daemon chuckle, “All in sweet time princess, just getting you ready for me.” He idly rubbed circles on your rose bud
“Daemon just fuck me.” You groaned in frustration making your husband’s eyes.
“Such filthy words, sweet girl.” He taunted, nearly pushing your legs to your shoulders, even the little strums of the bells on your ankles were taunting you.
“Please, please Daemon,” you whined pleadingly as he ran the leaky tip of his cock through your folds. “I want you!”
“Good girl, begging for her husband’s cock.” He grunted as he bottomed out within you.
Barely allowing you a moment to adjusted before setting a determined pace in pounding you cunt.
You looked up at him as his long silver locks shielded your face, he leaned down to kiss your lips, biting at the bottom of your lip. The ghungroos on your ankle rhythmically jangled to the thrusting of your husband’s hips. He leaned back, throwing your legs on his shoulder as his pounding turned animalistic.
“My pretty little dancer, all mine.” He groaned
Drowning in your own pleasures your agreed in series of all yours- all yours pouring from your lips, nearly far too lost in the sensations radiating of your body. You reached your hands upwards, wanting him closer as your back arched off the ground. He wrapped his hands around you back, letting your legs hug around his lower back as he pounded you to your peak.
“Y/N- gods.” He breathed out in your ear as his cock spurted ropes of his seed in your cunt.
There was Moment of serene peace as Daemon pulled out of you and fell next to you, untill you felt his spend spilling down onto your skirts and you groaned.
“You ruined my skirt,” you pouted, grimacing at the stains
“I’ll buy you hundreds more.” He huffed out, yanking you on top of him.
Just as you helped each other straighten out, he spend a while tying the ties of your blouse, peppering kisses on your back as you undid the ghungroos, quite sure they would have bruises your ankles by now.
There was yet another topic lingering on Daemon’s tongue that he wasn’t sure how you would take
“Rhaena found out at supper that you dance, she could use a teacher…” He said hesitantly, you frowned.
“Just as you learned from your mother, our little dragons could use a lesson or two from their mother.”
You pondered and then looked to him using the word mother.
“Rhaena will make a gorgeous little dancer.”

I find it so funny when Team Black stans get so angry about Alicent "spreading rumours" about the legitimacy of Rhaenyra's sons, putting them at risk of being killed.
First of all, these rumours are clearly true. Rhaenyra knows they're true. Viserys knows they're true, even though he acts blind to it. I'm sure the servants and guards across the Red Keep knew they were true and had a grand old time gossiping about it. Hell even Daemon, who's all the way in Pentos, knows Rhaenyra's children are illegitimate.
The illegitimacy of Rhaenyra's children affects Alicent's children. By Westerosi law bastards cannot inherit land or titles, meaning that even if Rhaenyra were to ascend the throne with no issue, Aegon should legally be her heir instead of Jacaerys.
Viserys knows his grandsons are illegitimate, and does everything in his power to shield them anyway. He's always protected Rhaenyra and allowed her indiscretions where likely no other king would. He continues to protect her from the consequences of her actions, saying that anyone who spoke out about his grandson's parentage would have their tongue removed.
And you can love and support Rhaenyra as much as you want, but you cannot tell me if the roles were reversed she wouldn't speak out against Alicent. If she knew, or even believed, that any of Alicent's children had been fathered by say, Ser Criston or Tyland Lannister, that she wouldn't hesitate to run straight to her father.

Fact: Rhaenyra didn’t “steal” Baela and Rhaena’s birthright
Another weak greenie argument that normally wouldn’t even be worth the words I spend time typing, but it needs to be nipped in the bud immediately.
Tumblr media
Rhaenyra married Daemon for love and for Targaryen support against the greens. Unlike Alicent, who only married Viserys for power and Queen Aemma’s crown, Rhaenyra didn’t gain much from this marriage, aside from a husband who loves her, who is her pillar and strength in her war against the usurpers, and who can give her pure Targaryen heirs. Materialistically, she gained nothing. Daemon has no lands, fortune or army of his own. He has Dark Sister and a dragon.
Marrying Daemon doesn’t give Rhaenyra influence over Baela and Rhaena’s inheritance even if he is their father. Because their inheritance is not derived from Daemon, but rather their mother’s family, the Velaryons.
Corlys Velaryon is the Lord of Driftmark, and just like King Viserys chose Rhaenyra as his heir, Corlys has the right to decide who inherits Driftmark. And he made his decision pretty clear.
Corlys chose Lucerys Velaryon as his heir, despite knowing that he is not Laenor’s true-born son. He chose Lucerys, passing over his true-born granddaughters, Baela and Rhaena. It may be considered the move of a misogynist but it is ultimately his decision.
He explained his decision to Rhaenys. He cares more about the Velaryon name than the blood itself. And his granddaughters’ last names are Targaryen. Plus, he couldn’t pass over Lucerys and Joffrey, because otherwise, the rumors about their parentage would be confirmed, which would have put the boys in danger, and permanently damage Laenor’s image. Corlys loves his son, despite his nature.
And while Lucerys is not Laenor’s son, he definitely has a bit of Velaryon blood passed from his mother’s family. The mother of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne was Alyssa Velaryon (Rhaenyra’s great great grandmother). It isn’t much but the boys are still half Valyrian by blood, and half Andal (just like the Hightower half-breeds).
Nevertheless, understanding the difficult situation she and the Velaryons were in (the boys couldn’t be passed over or else they would have been confirmed as non-Velaryons, while at the same time, Velaryon blood was needed on the Driftwood throne and Daemon’s girls were being passed over for the same reason their grandmother had been), Rhaenyra proposed a fair compromise:
Lucerys would inherit Driftmark but would be married to Rhaena. Their children would be a quarter Velaryon and would inherit after them. Velaryon blood would sit the Driftwood throne. That can be achieved later on with more marriages between the Velaryons. Incest is possible and solves the whole problem for them. But the name is very important, just like Corlys said. They couldn’t afford to lose the name Velaryon.
So, Rhaenyra didn’t “steal” anything from Baela and Rhaena. On the contrary, she put Rhaena’s future children in the Driftmark line of succession and promised Baela the title of future Queen Consort. Velaryon blood would eventually sit both the Iron Throne and the Driftwood one.
Corlys chose Rhaenyra’s boy as his successor. Rhaenyra made things right by ensuring Baela and Rhaena receive honor and positions of power, as they were entitled.
Are we clear?

jonsa, “children of dune,” & women’s disenfranchisement
this is basically a part 2 of this meta i posted last night. if you haven’t read that, i recommend reading it before this one to get the full context! a certain anon (hi!) challenged me to expand upon my thoughts by demonstrating how jonsa might be a response to and/or critique of the ideas presented in the dune series.
i’ll put the rest of the post below the cut for those wanting to avoid dune spoilers!
westerosi historical parallels
i think one of the strongest arguments for linking jonsa (and specifically the bran/sansa/jon trio) to children’s leto ii/ghanima/farad’n resolution is the fact that grrm has sprinkled variations on this relationship throughout westerosi history.
if we look for the pattern of “woman is married to one man but her children are fathered by a different man,” we of course find it several times in the series:
laenor velaryon/rhaenyra targaryen/harwin strong - rhaenyra’s velaryon children were in fact fathered by her lover, harwin strong--apparently because laenor was gay and had no interest in sleeping with his wife. (or going by hotd canon just couldn’t impregnate her for undisclosed reasons).
aegon iv/queen naerys/aemon the dragonknight - while the truth of the accusations against naerys and aemon is dubious at best, the idea that the two of them were secret lovers and that he might have fathered the heir to the throne remains firmly rooted in collective westerosi memory.
robert baratheon/cersei lannister/jaime lannister - this is the most important iteration of this pattern for the main series. we have confirmation from both cersei and jaime that all three of her children are his and not robert’s.
honorable mentions for: the possibility that aegon the conqueror’s two sons might not have been his due to infertility on his part, and the possibility of at least some of aegon ii’s children with helaena actually being aemond’s.
you’ll note that all of these examples echo leto ii/ghanima/farad’n (right down to the prevalence of sibling incest within them) in one or more ways.
you’ll also note that the majority of these led to disputed successions and that all of the children produced by these relationships were involved in succession disputes in one way or another.
the bastardy of rhaenyra’s sons was used as a reason to deny her place in the succession. the alleged bastardy of queen naerys’s son was used as justification for the blackfyre rebellions. and, of course, cersei’s children’s bastardy led to the war of five kings. aegon the conqueror’s son maegor usurped his niece and nephew’s claim to the throne, and aegon ii’s children were caught up in the dance of the dragons.
this leads us to the question, if the arrangement between leto ii, ghanima, and farad’n was shown to be such a useful solution to a succession crisis in children, why do similar relationships show up over and over again in grrm’s series as causes of succession crises?
bastardy and women’s rights
i think what we are seeing is grrm responding to--and likely critiquing--the position of women in dune’s society by focusing on the issue of bastardy.
in the society in which the dune series takes place, a child need not be born of a legal spouse in order to inherit its parent’s position, title, wealth, etc. for example, paul atreides himself is the son of his father’s concubine, jessica. paul’s father, duke leto atreides, never married jessica but kept her instead as a concubine. similarly, paul’s own heirs are the children not of his legal wife princess irulan but of his concubine, chani kynes.
the society’s lack of interest in ensuring heirs are born of recognized legal unions is what allows the arrangement between leto ii, ghanima, and farad’n to be successful. nobody cares that ghanima’s children weren’t fathered by her husband. they’re atreides princes and princesses regardless of their biological parentage, which means that farad’n’s fatherhood (and therefore the children’s corrino ancestry) can be openly acknowledged and leveraged for political benefit.
but that has not been the case in many real societies, and for good reason.
legally disinheriting bastards is a form of protection for the rights and positions of married women in strongly patriarchal societies.
we see within the world of dune itself how men exploit the society’s laissez-faire attitude toward bastardy to disenfranchise women.
duke leto atreides never marries his concubine jessica because keeping the position of his legal wife available gives him political leverage. he can dangle the possibility of a marriage alliance in front of potential allies to draw them in. refusing to marry jessica benefits him politically. and the fact that he can easily name paul as his heir without marrying jessica means that he can use her to give him the heir he wants without offering her the legal rights and privileges that becoming the wife of a duke would afford her.
similarly, paul himself exploits the non-existence of bastardy to disempower his wife princess irulan (and to deny his beloved chani the position of empress consort). he uses irulan’s claim to the throne to gain legitimacy for his rule but by fathering his heirs through chani, he ensures that irulan’s position remains an extremely weak one.
the first book in the series, dune, famously ends with jessica consoling chani by telling her that history will remember them as wives. irulan gets erased despite having the legal title, but while chani is paul’s wife in many real senses, she is denied the legal position and its attendant privileges and protections. both of the women in paul’s life end up in weakened legal and political positions due to his choice of heirs.
in grrm’s series, we see through catelyn’s eyes that the prospect of a husband’s bastards usurping his legal heirs’ position is a very real fear for women in this type of feudal, patriarchal society. in such societies, a woman’s position in the world is determined first by her father, then by her husband, and ultimately by her son. if one of catelyn’s own children succeeds ned, catelyn can be assured of protection, support, and a position in society even after ned’s death. however, if ned’s bastard son, jon snow, inherits, where does that leave cat? she’s no longer the mother of the lord or lady of winterfell, a position that guarantees her a safe future. she has to hope that one of her children, at least, is still in a position to support her--or throw herself on the mercy of another family member. her future becomes incredibly precarious.
we see over and over again in a song of ice and fire that grrm is centering this issue of bastardy, of how it affects questions of succession, yes, but also how it affects the lives of those it touches. we very much get jon’s perspective on how awful it is to shackle a human being with this social position of bastard--but we also get the flipside: how awful it is that women are so disenfranchised that they have no choice but to fear their husbands’ illegitimate children.
furthermore, while these societal structures allow men to exploit women’s bodies to create the children they want, when women try to take control of their own bodies to create the children they want, the society punishes them. we see that in the examples of rhaenyra, naerys, and cersei. in dune, we get a taste of it with jessica, who is derided by her bene gesserit sisters for choosing to give birth to a son instead of the daughter they ordered her to have... except that jessica chose to have a son because it was what leto wanted, and she wanted to make her lover happy. either way, jessica’s body and its reproductive possibilities are not hers to use as she desires. they are meant to be tools for others.
as i have explained, these issues very much exist in both dune and a song of ice and fire, and yet frank herbert seems fairly uninterested in exploring how they affect women and, through them, the wider society. jessica, irulan, and chani’s perspectives are largely sidelined to focus on the men’s stories.
jonsa as a response
in a song of ice and fire, grrm made the crucial world-building choice to have the majority of westerosi society make a legal distinction between the rights of legitimate and illegitimate children. (perhaps someone else has spent some time musing on the somewhat different attitudes of dorne? if so, i’d love to hear your thoughts). if he is writing in response to the ideas presented by herbert in dune, this would be a deliberate choice and a key difference between the societies presented by each.
in the dune series, while leto ii loves his twin sister ghanima deeply (in fact, they both hint that when they are older their love might have a romantic dimension), she ultimately becomes little more than a pawn in his millennia-long plan to save humanity. to put it bluntly, he breeds her with farad’n as a step toward fixing certain genetic traits within the atreides line.
ghanima accepts her part in all of this, but that’s really all she can do. while ghanima may have preferred to have a true marriage with leto (or perhaps some other life entirely), refusing leto’s plan would mean refusing to help him save all of humanity! how could she be so heartless? herbert characterizes her as weaker than leto, both in terms of their prescient abilities but also in terms of moral fiber. ghanima lacks the strength of will to make the sacrifice that leto does and undergo the physical transformation that removes him forever from normal humanity--she must settle for making the “lesser” sacrifice of becoming a pawn in his breeding scheme. (there’s a lot of gender essentialist bullshit happening within dune, as well, but that’s a whole can of worms i don’t have the time to open right now).
in the end, ghanima is no less disenfranchised than her grandmother jessica, her mother chani, or her stepmother irulan. her life and her body belong to leto and his golden path, not to herself. (anyone picking up on the rhaegar/lyanna parallels?)
at the heart of each of the westerosi parallels i mentioned earlier is also a disenfranchised woman. rhaenyra must marry the man her father chooses and somehow give them both heirs even when he doesn’t want to sleep with her. naerys, too, is forced into marriage with her very awful brother aegon when it seems likely she would have been much happier with aemon (helaena seems to be in a similar position with aegon ii and aemond). cersei is married off to robert, who calls her another woman’s name in bed, physically abuses her, and fathers countless bastards while married to her.
but the trio of bran, sansa, and jon will be different.
first of all, the close, loving family relationships among the starks set them apart from virtually every other family we see presented throughout the series. this will be key in making the bran/sansa/jon balance work. precisely because of the relationship they formed with jon while growing up, bran and sansa will know that they can trust him to support their rule without threat of usurpation. similarly, because bran and sansa love and trust each other (heh heh see what i did there) as siblings, they can share power without the need for a marriage alliance.
unlike leto, bran will have no need to marry sansa in order to control her and her claim. this removes the need for sansa to marry one man while having children with another. and unlike farad’n and ghanima, jon will be someone that sansa has already formed a bond of love and trust with at the point that they marry--and someone that she wants to marry.
this is why the romance between jon and sansa will be a key factor in differentiating their relationship from the previous patterns. their love for each other will allow them to break the mold because their marriage will give them what they both dream of having rather than denying them what they’ve always wanted.
unlike the women in the previous examples in westerosi history (and unlike ghanima), sansa’s marriage will empower her. sansa will be queen in her own right, not consort. she will be her brother’s equal in position and power, not his pawn and certainly not his baby-making machine. sansa will be able to have children with both her husband and the man she loves, because they will be the same person. and, crucially, sansa will be able to have the children she has dreamed of having: stark children, to replace the family she lost and fill winterfell again with the love and laughter she remembers from her childhood.
there is also the element of this arrangement resolving catelyn’s fears, though catelyn herself (even as stoneheart) will likely never experience this resolution. jon yields his potential claim not once, but twice, to catelyn’s children. and yet, jon still gets winterfell, gets to be a stark, and his children will have a legitimate claim to the home he loves.
king bran/queen sansa/consort jon might very well be grrm’s answer to the issues inherent in herbert’s trio of leto ii/ghanima/farad’n. it would almost certainly be an answer to the parallels grrm himself has placed into westerosi history of rhaenyra, naerys, cersei, and others.
this is why i think that jonsa will be part of grrm’s end game: because it works not only politically but also romantically...and corrects the wrongs we have witnessed over and over again in previous relationships within the series.

Do you realize how ironic it would be if I, a child of Athena who named themself Neptune, rolled up to camp being like “‘sup?”
It’d be so fucking hilarious. I’d deserve my own spin-off series tbh /hj
(Now all I need is a child of Poseidon named Minerva & we’d be besties-
[Wait, I have an idea of how I’d write this-
{A child of Athena being weirdly hyperfixated w/ intense knowledge about the seas/oceans + a child of Poseidon who’s a literal god at puzzles & politics, neither of which use their powers they inherited to do anything related to their parentage but rather the domains of the other & absolute despise anyone who even lightheartedly suggest they switch parents bc they’ve heard that joke a million times before
(I fucking love this idea-)}])
No because this is so something I would read!!!
What would the title be.... I can't think of any ideas but there is something in my brain.
Honestly imagine Athena and Poseidon being pissed about it and they try their very hardest to get the kids to hate each other but everything they go through just makes them closer until something bad happens to Athena and Poseidon and the two kids and to work together to save them or fix what they have broken and the two gods finally realize ...."Damn we where so wrong..."

anyway. horse symbolisms:
rand’s horses:
red: his horse in books 1-2. red is… well. you know the love affair between rand and the colour red. a possible reference to his aiel heritage & to his mother who had red hair because these are also the books where there’s heavy foreshadowing that his parentage matters.
jeade’en: his horse in books 4-5. meaning true finder. refers to rand’s love for reading books and his tentative hope that he’ll return home someday when he’s still doing well mental health-wise. he also abandons jeade’en for tai’daishar in book 6 - interestingly it’s specifically towards the end of book 5 that rand gets it into his head that he needs to stop feeling human emotions and give himself over completely to his role due to a variety of factors. this probably marks the point where he really gives up any hope of returning home, and therefore moves onto his next horse.
tai’daishar: horse in books 6-11. refers to rand’s increasingly elevated status, potential reference to lews therin’s titles.
elayne’s horses:
lioness: a reference to her claim to the throne of andor. also captures her spirit.
fireheart: once again references her spirit
mat’s horse:
pips: referring to the pips on a dice, and therefore his lucky nature.
nynaeve’s horse:
loversknot: her horse in book 8. refers to her marriage to lan.
aviendha’s horses:
mageen: meaning daisy - and has a placid nature because aiel are not used to riding horses
siswai: meaning spear and referring to her aiel heritage
lan’s horse:
mandarb: meaning blade. refers to the blade and destiny he inherited - to fight the shadow. also a reference to his being a warder.
egwene’s horses:
bela: her horse in the early books + briefly in book 10. she eventually stops riding bela, paralleling her decreasing romantic attachment to rand and desire to return home; but when she rides it in book 10 it potentially references how she seeks to protect bodewhin - in book 10 she otherwise never goes out of her way to protect or favour bode.
daishar: means glory. refers to her quest to unite the white tower and the land to fight the shadow. meant to explicitly parallel rand’s journey in the latter half of the series as they’re both set up to be the two most powerful figures in the continent.
arrow (birgitte’s horse) and challenge (gawyn’s horse) are mostly self-explanatory.

VesalBlood: On Dynastic Titles in the Empyrean Courts and Elsewhere
or, rambling lore that's subject to change, as always
-
if testimonial is to be believed, from their inception, the titles granted by the Kishar dynasties weren't all that different from how an unlearned outsider might imagine them to work. when a noble passed on an agreed-upon fragment of their power to an heir, the title was stipulated along with it
at some unknown point in the depths of the dark ages left behind by the calamity era, this changed. the exact circumstances of this change are unclear, but some broad strokes are generally agreed-upon
in response to a perceived dilution of divine mandate, dynasts began to limit the number of titles that could be inherited by their scions. while some titles could be held by multiple heirs, others were heavily restricted in the terms of their bestowal. the terms of such contracts were overseen by holymen (many of whom would also form the early foundations of the Divine Solis Imperium's state religion) to ensure they could never be broken
single generation titles which could not be inherited. colloquially referred to as "The Princehood Mandates" for absence of any remaining documentation
the wording of the titles varied, but the intention was undeniable. "to the son of..." and other such specific caveats were included to ensure that, should a dynast perish, his heirs could not pass his demesne to those he could not see for himself
rather than allow their lines to die out, scions began to work around this. should a title not specify the exact number of holders, it was often split between all available heirs. for the ones that did, more creative solutions were required
for the more ambitious would-bes, the process often involved the modification of their own genetics and identity to better mantle the caveats required of them. if it was only a matter of parentage, identity, and name, such roles were easily assumed. if it were a matter of age or sex, fleshcrafting often filled the gaps
for some, the process involved the engineering of children with designer parentage. these children rarely survive long, as a result of the inherent problems of attempting to create progeny from a parent that's been decomposing for centuries
the diseases exhibited by the subjects of these program were many. among the most feared, Eliczan's Syndrome, an unidentifiable (presumed) mutation in which the victim's body would cease to produce any fluids besides blood, eventually resulting in their death
because of this, it has become nearly impossible to trace family lines outside of oral histories. scions seen to live for hundreds of years, appearing dozens upon dozens of times across their family trees, which loop back upon themselves
to the uninformed outsider, the dynasties would seem truly heavensent, for their myriad blessings of immortal children
it could truly be said that Kishar is an otherworldly place, inhabited by both the mundane and incomprehensible alike. a planet with a biological population in the billions, but a recognised population of only several thousand.
a paradise of sorts, balanced on the knifes edge between the agelessly ancient cities of human beauty above and the sprawling hideousness of the forbidden metrolithic labyrinths below

random Randolph headcanons
Randolph von Bergliez was born Randolph Lautrec, in 1160, in the Fort Merceus. His father was a blacksmith and worked for Caspar's grandfather, who then becomes his step-father when his father dies of a wasting illness when he was just a boy.
Despite not being his son by blood, (or maybe because of it), the then Count Bergliez treated him very well. He didn't go through the infamous Bergliez training though: Count Bergliez's health was declining and he wanted to enjoy the time he had left. His only taste of real battle before he joins the Imperial Army was the military tactics books his step-father would make him read.
He grew up admiring the man, but also realized with time that his mother and Count Bergliez probably started their affair before his father died and it left a bitter taste in his mouth about loyalty. Even moreso as he realized Flèche was fathered by his step-father.
Initially, he was very excited about having an older brother in Leopold. But the man couldn't trust Randolph's mother any less and refused to even acknowledge him or Flèche after his father died. It wasn't really personal, but if Flèche's true parentage came to light, she could petition for the Count Bergliez title if something happened to him.
He has few memories of being allowed to play with Caspar and his brother as kids, one that ended with Randolph punching Caspar's older brother in the mouth after he called Flèche a bastard baby. Once informed, Leopold didn't get angry with him, but said that perhaps there was more Bergliez in him than he first thought. They weren't allowed to play together again and left Fort Merceus soon after.
He used to play cards and lost a good amount of money to it, which led to people thinking he was unreliable. It was well-deserved, he'd also ruined the engagement his step-father had arranged for him before passing, because he refused to marry for anything but love because of aforementioned issues with loyalty.
He was supposed to join the Officers' Academy but his step-father's death stopped that from happening because most of house Bergliez shunned them, and blocked the large inheritance his mother was expecting.
He joined the Imperial Army at seventeen and quickly rose through the ranks. He and Ladislava became quick friends at that time and she was the one to recommend him to Edelgard when she became head of her personal guards.
Dorothea and Randolph are good friends. They met during the early days of the war and immediately hit off due to their similar goals. She often chides him for not taking the easy way and marrying rich like she plans on doing-- he's handsome enough to pull if off, but he reminds her that she's fighting this war just like he is. She'll perform her most popular songs for his men, which really boosts their morale. She calls him 'Randy', which he absolutely loathes but only tolerates from her. Flèche thinks she's the coolest woman EVER.

Missing Heir
Since @decepticonsensual is running a poll regarding Korkie Kryze's parentage and my own answer of him being an actual blood relative is being left in the dust, I thought I'd spin off into my own indulgent little theory.
Meet Noran Kryze. Eldest sibling. Golden Child (despite being a red-head). Heir Apparent. Groomed since childhood to take on the mantle of leadership from his father. Satine lived in his shadow. She looked up to him. Admired him. Was always thrilled with any attention he gave to her.
And then Noran met a local girl. It was your standard "noble falls in love with a peasant" type story, except the "peasant" in this case was Mandalorian. Sure, Serri Rodarch still had pale skin and she didn't wear armor, but she owned several pieces and believed it was important to remember her heritage even if times were changing. She was a teacher who made sure kids learned Mando'a in addition to Basic. Kind but stubborn and always looking out for the best interests of children, regardless of their background.
When all attempts at persuading, bargaining, and threatening Noran to leave Serri for a "better" match failed, Adonai formally disowned him, stripping him of any titles or inheritance and scrubbing his name from the family records.
The fighting was loud and vicious and Satine watched from the shadows. She was appalled at the aggression (Noran and Father never struck each other, but teacups and decorative pieces still got broken) and terrified to see her perfect brother (not her brother any longer) being thrown out onto the streets with nothing but the clothes on his back.
Satine now found herself in the role of Eldest Child and Heir Apparent. Her father continually reinforced the importance of her learning and pedigree and how vital it was for her to carry on the family legacy. She took it all to heart, determined not to fail the way her not-brother had. If she also internalized a lot of "violence=evil," well, that was all for the good, wasn't it?
As far as she was concerned, the man who was not her brother lived a life of destitution, bitterness, and hate. This was certainly what her father implied had happened and it wasn't something she ever wanted to experience for herself.
Noran's actual life, of course, was actually one of happiness and contentment. He and Sarri might not live in a palace, but they had a nice home with room to grow, and grow it did with the birth of Korkie.
All likely would have remained well except that a terrorist bombing managed to kill Noran and Sarri, leaving Korkie an orphan. Thanks to Noran being a canny SOB he had backup copies proving Korkie's relation to Clan Kryze.
Satine was informed of his existence and circumstances. Her father would have told her that Korkie was nothing to her and not part of the family, but her conscience wouldn't let her ignore him, so she brought him into the palace, changed his surname from Rodarch to Kryze, and formally recognized him as her nephew. His parentage went unacknowledged, leading to a lot of curiosity from those who weren't aware of Noran's existence. Rumors spread, but Satine and her people simply ignored it, carrying on the fine Kalevalan tradition of "what I don't see/hear doesn't exist."

So, with your concept of demiprinces, it looks like they have to be born, since you have the whole chromosomes post that is hilarious? Because my dark elf Dohvahkin is the goddaughter and niece of my Nerevarine and HoK, who is now Sheogorath. Would she be considered a demiprince, or more of a Mad Paladin, or something?
for me a "demiprince" is just basically a greek demigod but with daedric princes, i.e. one parent is a mortal and one parent is a daedric prince. a quick uesp check suggests the parent doesn't have to be a mortal and can be any "lesser being", so by that definition the other parent could even be a fellow daedra, just one of the mooks like a seducer or whatever who's way way below the prince. but i like the simplicity and straightforwardness of 1 Mortal Parent + 1 Prince Parent so that's what i've been using the term to mean.
i've generally been following greek demigod precedent, where they are physically born and can be killed but have powers and endurance beyond that of a mortal. when i label my girls as each being a "demiprince" it's not so much about hierarchical standing or planar influence or whatever as it is a statement of parentage. in other words, it's not a title that can be bestowed upon someone, nor does it influence anyone except direct descendants. either you have one mortal parent and one prince parent or you're not a demiprince.
i made the joke about "Xayah chromosomes" and the mule-like infertility of my demiprinces to handwave worrying about things like inherited daedric genes or what being 1/4 daedra would look like. admittedly, that's a HUGE departure from the greco-roman concept of a demigod, where you would have people like Caesar claiming direct blood-ancestry to Venus via the mythical demigod hero Aeneas. i think if you really want to split hairs about hereditary titles you might want to look into real-world demigod mythology, supposed demigod lineages, that sort of thing, because lord knows there's no shortage of irl people claiming that their great-great-whoever was the bastard son of a sun god.

re: luke + being a bastard. i don't think it can be overstated how much luke hates being called a strong, for all that that would mean for his life ( although the only people who would call him a strong to his face are his uncles. that's another thing, it's not something everyone knows or is even sure of, but that last part is more because the show removed any vagueness that there was regarding their parentage ). it's not the way to get a reaction out of him because luke as a general rule has no reaction to being called a bastard. yes, it hurts him, but he has taught himself not to react. the fact of the matter is, he is not a strong. harwin and rhaenyra weren't married, he would be a waters ( and neither does he have any emotional connection to harwin, who died when he was five and who he hardly remembers ). even leaving the implications for rhaenyra if that were to come out ( which matter to him because he loves his mother ), as far as he's concerned, it'd mean not just the loss of his title, his inheritance ( which - he'd be more worried about his loss of title than driftmark, truth be told. driftmark means something just because he doesn't want to disappoint corlys & rhaenyra, but that's another topic ). where would he go ? what would he do with joffrey ? court would not be an option, harrenhal is certainly not one because harwin is dead. driftmark wouldn't be an option, dragonstone wouldn't be either if it passed to his uncle aegon as prince of dragonstone. he's grown up as a velaryon, and he has the skills for that. does he like what was done to vaemond ? no. does he like what happened to his family when they complained ? no. would he tell on anyone he heard calling them bastards because he's aware what it means to their lives ? yeah.

Did you see the article on the guy claiming to be Charles and Camilla's son? he says he is going to sue for the title of Prince of Wales. Maybe he is Charles' son, since both seem sue crazy.
Rumor-tracking anon here again. That guy's been around for at least a decade. He pops up every time there's a big royal to-do involving Charles. I've actually done some research on him and plausibly, it just doesn't work out.
First, he was born in 1966, conceived in 1965. By all accounts I've found - official and private - Charles and Camilla didn't meet until 1970.
Second, even if he was Charles and Camilla's son, he isn't eligible to inherit for three reasons:
He was born out of wedlock. The Act of Settlement of 1701 requires all individuals in the line of succession to be of legitimate status. The Act also allows for children born before the parents marry to become legitimized but they remain unable and ineligible to inherit. (This happened to one of the Harewoods; they had two children before marrying but it was their third child - and second son - who was the Viscount, not the eldest.)
Charles does not acknowledge him as his son. Since Queen Victoria, illegitimate children of the royal family are not publicly acknowledged in the U.K./BRF. The child of the royal has to be publicly acknowledged for him to be part of the family, whether it's general acceptance or a DNA test (as in the cases of King Albert of Belgium and Prince Albert of Monaco) but again, born out of wedlock = no place in the line of succession.
He was legally adopted by other parents, which severed his relationship and claim to the Windsors and any rights to succession.
If he really is Camilla's son (which I doubt), it's more likely that he's Andrew Parker Bowles's son as Andrew and Camilla met in 1965 - which aligns with the circumstances of his birth. Additionally, Andrew's brother is named Simon and what a coinkydink, this guy's name is Simon too. But really, I think he's mentally ill and being taken advantage of by a sensationalist press for hits and clicks.
It's actually more plausible that Princess Margaret and Captain Townsend had a child that they gave away later for adoption as that guy has more credibility since he actually won a lawsuit against the royals that allowed him to view Margaret's last will and testament to determine his parentage. (Margaret's will didn't reveal anything so everyone considered the matter closed with "not true" and stopped giving him attention.)
And also one final royal bastard rumor for your entertainment. It's been suggested that The Duke of Kent (the current Duke's father/Her late Majesty's uncle) has two illegitimate children, one of whom was Raine McQuordale whose mother was Barbara Cortland and who later become Diana's stepmother.
OOOHHHH! Love me some out of wedlock rumors!
Thank you for this!!!
I always thought it was ridiculous but him claiming he is going to sue...hard eye roll from me!

Jon was showing Dareon how best to deliver a sidestroke when the new recruit entered the practice yard. “Your feet should be farther apart,” he urged. “You don’t want to lose your balance. That’s good. Now pivot as you deliver the stroke, get all your weight behind the blade.”
The chapter starts off with Jon - who we know has been losing some hours of sleep in Tyrion's thrd chapter - training the recruits better than Alliser Thorne ever did and you know that the old man is seething with rage over that.
'then, Ser Alliser would not call an end. “On your feet, Ser Piggy,” he called. “Pick up your sword.” When the boy continued to cling to the ground, Thorne gestured to Halder. “Hit him with the flat of your blade until he finds his feet.” Halder delivered a tentative smack to his foe’s upraised cheeks. “You can hit harder than that,” Thorne taunted. Halder took hold of his longsword with both hands and brought it down so hard the blow split leather, even on the flat. The new boy screeched in pain.'
While Alliser learned that Jon is not the one he could bully he finds himself a new prey in the form of Samwell Tarly and it turns ugly very quickly. However fear not because true knight Jon Snow comes to his rescue.
'Jon shook off Pyp’s hand. “Halder, enough.' … ' Jon drew his longsword. He dared defy Ser Alliser only to a point, and he feared he was well beyond it now.'
This scene is eerily similar to another beating that takes place in ACoK. If you compare this to the painful scene of Sansa getting beaten by the kingsguard you can see that Jon occupies the roles of the two false Florians in Sansa’s life ( Sandor and Dontos) and does a better job than both of them by successfully protecting Samwell whereas they fail to protect Sansa. This is GRRM’s roundabout way of telling us who Sansa's true Florian is and that is Jon Snow.
It was too much. Jon frowned, incredulous. “Are you afraid of everything?” he asked. “I don’t understand. If you are truly so craven, why are you here? Why would a coward want to join the Night’s Watch?” Samwell Tarly looked at him for a long moment, and his round face seemed to cave in on itself. ... It was Ghost who knew what to do. Silent as shadow, the pale direwolf moved closer and began to lick the warm tears off Samwell Tarly’s face. The fat boy cried out, startled … and somehow, in a heartbeat, his sobs turned to laughter.
Poor Sam. Luckily Ghost knows what to do. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
And then I find myself in front of the door to the crypts. It’s black inside, and I can see the steps spiraling down. Somehow I know I have to go down there, but I don’t want to. I’m afraid of what might be waiting for me. The old Kings of Winter are down there, sitting on their thrones with stone wolves at their feet and iron swords across their laps, but it’s not them I’m afraid of. I scream that I’m not a Stark, that this isn’t my place, but it’s no good, I have to go anyway, so I start down, feeling the walls as I descend, with no torch to light the way
Clearly something is waiting for Jon in the crypts of Winterfell. The truth of his parentage? I say yes.
Whatever pride his lord father might have felt at Samwell’s birth vanished as the boy grew up plump, soft, and awkward. Sam loved to listen to music and make his own songs, to wear soft velvets, to play in the castle kitchen beside the cooks, drinking in the rich smells as he snitched lemon cakes and blueberry tarts. His passions were books and kittens and dancing, clumsy as he was.
Sansa is that you?
“You have given me no cause to disown you, but neither will I allow you to inherit the land and title that should be Dickon’s. Heartsbane must go to a man strong enough to wield her, and you are not worthy to touch her hilt. So I have decided that you shall this day announce that you wish to take the black. You will forsake all claim to your brother’s inheritance and start north before evenfall. His arms were red to the elbow as he laid the skinning knife aside. “So. There is your choice. The Night’s Watch”—he reached inside the deer, ripped out its heart, and held it in his fist, red and dripping—“or this.”
Randyll Tarly is really fighting hard for the title worst father in westeros. The only person who defeats him in this department is Craster and we all know why.
“I saw him eat a pork pie,” Toad said, smirking. “Do you think it was a brother?” He began to make oinking noises. “Stop it!” Jon snapped angrily.
Look at Jon fiercely coming to Sam's defense. Jon is truly acting like a proper Knight in this chapter and he hasn't taken any knightly vows (✿◡‿◡)
“You girls do as you please,” Rast said, “but if Thorne sends me against Lady Piggy, I’m going to slice me off a rasher of bacon.” He laughed in Jon’s face and left them there. Hours later, as the castle slept, three of them paid a call on his cell. Grenn held his arms while Pyp sat on his legs. Jon could hear Rast’s rapid breathing as Ghost leapt onto his chest. The direwolf’s eyes burned red as embers as his teeth nipped lightly at the soft skin of the boy’s throat, just enough to draw blood. “Remember, we know where you sleep,” Jon said softly.
And Jon is officially creepy me out. He really went into Godfather mode for Sam's sake. That is what I call devotion.
Fat and awkward and frightened he might be, but Samwell Tarly was no fool. One night he visited Jon in his cell. “I don’t know what you did,” he said, “but I know you did it.” He looked away shyly. “I’ve never had a friend before.” “We’re not friends,” Jon said. He put a hand on Sam’s broad shoulder. “We’re brothers.”
As of now I officially decree that Samwell Tarly is an unofficial son of House Stark and Brienne an unofficial daughter of House Stark.
Next chapter: our reluctant detective Ned Stark.

I’m sure you’re probably pretty six of parentage/retcon questions at this point but here’s another (sorry):
What do you think, if any particular reason, is keeping them from undoing the retcon? I don’t think it would be that difficult if they wanted to.
Maybe they’ll do it now, since (spoiler alert for DS MoM if you care: mutants are kind of in the mcu now and mcu scarlet witch is implied to be dead) but it seems like they’re doubling down on the “magneto is their dad but not biologically” thing (which I don’t love since he’s not a good dad and they already had Django).
Assuming they’re sticking with Natalya (because getting rid of her is really the only way to get rid of the unfortunate implication of a magical Roma family) but they could just say since the scarlet witch is a magical title, Wanda could inherit it as Django’s daughter, biological maximoff or not. Might even be able to connect to Billy and Tommy. They could even include a little bit about Wanda and Pietro being in Natalya’s care at some point between their time with the high evolutionary and Django and Marya when she considered them her own, perhaps prior to being… killed by a vengeful magneto? I’m unsure.
I just think this is all very odd. The Whizzer backstory lasted like 5 years, they’ve been “non mutants” for 8 now so I’m worried it’s going to stick
I mean, the real answer here is "Disney." Certainly, nobody at Marvel seems to want this. As for why Disney cares about this particular issue, I could not even begin to guess. I truly do not know why they're meddling in this. And if people don't believe me that Disney meddles in this stuff, here is someone who worked at Marvel in the 2010's saying as much, albeit about other issues:
Tumblr media
My instinct is that the people making these decisions have no understanding of comics or the comics audience and believe that someone who wants to get into comics from the movies is going to be confused. Or something??? I don't know. That makes no sense to because 1) they will not be confused and 2) who the f is getting into comics from the MCU?
I recognize that everybody's got anecdata about them or their friend starting to read comics in 2012 because of the first Avengers movie, but statistically, "person getting into Marvel Comics because of the MCU in the year 2022" is a made up character who doesn't exist.
People love to say, "Oh, any comic with Wanda is selling so many copies now." It's fake news! These comics don't sell that many copies. To wit:
Marvel is literally synonymous with the very idea of “comics” for a meaningful percentage of the American population, they utterly dominated pop culture for multiple years here, and the source material of comics is actually usually better realized than the various bits stolen by the adaptations.  Plus, on top of that, they have “Star Wars” (and also all of the 20th Century Fox library now) – it is absolutely incomprehensible to this observer that they are not entirely dominating the sales of western comics to adults.  And yet, they can only sell a single book into the bookmarket at over 10k copies.
And that book is Infinity Gauntlet. These numbers do not account for the direct market, but those numbers aren't any better. These comics aren't Where the Crawdads Sing, no matter what their position is on an Amazon list. I feel weirdly passionate about this because I know many voracious readers who have tried to get into Marvel comics since the MCU has started, and it never sticks. They buy 1 TPB, complain that they either don't like the way the characters are written or they don't understand what's going on, and they go back to reading Saga.
So, I have no idea why Disney thinks this is necessary. I don't know why they thought killing off Doctor Strange was necessary. Their decisions seem like nonsense to me. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when they start properly meddling in X-Men comics. There will protests in the streets.

Margerit Sovitre did not expect to inherit the Baron Saveze’s fortunes—and even less his bodyguard. The formidable Barbara, of unknown parentage and tied to the barony for secretive reasons, is a feared duelist, capable of defending her charges with efficient, deadly force. Equally perplexing is that while she is now a highly eligible heiress, Margerit did not also inherit the Saveze title, and the new baron eyes the fortunes he lost with open envy. Barbara, bitter that her servitude is to continue, may be the only force that stands between Margerit and the new Baron’s greed—and the ever deeper layers of intrigue that surround the ill-health of Alpennia’s prince and the divine power from rituals known only as The Mysteries of the Saints. At first Margerit protests the need for Barbara’s services, but soon she cannot imagine sending Barbara away—for reasons of state and reasons of the heart. Heather Rose Jone debuts with a sweeping story rich in intrigue and the clash of loyalties and love.

My thoughts:
There were close to no books at all for the tiny country of Liechtenstein. This novel is set in the fictional country of Alpennia, in the European Alps, same as Liechtenstein. Though I can’t tell if this novel uses German names (as Liechtenstein should) or French.
Review to come.
