Book Review: "I Had Such Friends" by Meg Gatland-Veness (@PanteraPress @YourLibraryLtd)
I Had Such Friends (Pantera Press, July 2018) by Meg Gatland-Veness The title of Australian author Meg Gatland-Veness’s YA novel comes from the final lines of W.B. Yeats’s poem “The Municipal Gallery Revisited”: “Think where man’s glory most begins and ends / And say my glory was I had such friends.” As the poet revisits old friends and old memories, he is “heart-smitten with emotion”, immersed…

The Medoran Chronicles } Lynette Noni
* might contain spoilers *
This book series contains 5 main books and 1 novella all set in the same universe with the same main characters.
The first book, Akarnae, was one that sat on my bookshelf for nearly a year before I decided to pick it up and finally read. One of my close friends had recommended it to me and knowing her, I knew she would recommend something to my liking. I was so angry at myself once I finished the first book because I wished I had picked it up sooner.
Akarnae starts off with the main character, Alexandra Jennings, stepping through a doorway into a parallel world called Medora. She first meets her soon to be antagonist, unbeknownst to her at the time, before finding two young teenagers the same age as her with gifted abilities. Alex then finds herself brought to a school for gifted students with paranormal abilities along the lines of being able to turn invisible, read minds, telekinesis, intuition and so much more.
With her only ‘key’ back to Earth gone for the summer, the headmaster, alex has to stay at the school for the near future. She becomes close friends with Jordan and Bear (my two favourite book boy bestfriends of all time) and goes on adventures that only the most creative minds could imagine, more so in especially in the sequels.
Each friendship that is developed throughout this series is what has caused for me to fall madly in love with these books. I reread these every chance that I get and that is no lie. You can ask my mum if you’d like haha ! These became my comfort books as soon as I read them and I hope they might be the same for you !
5/5 stars for all 5 & a half books (the novella)

I received an advanced reader copy of The Serpent’s Skin from Pantera Press via NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion. The Serpent’s Skin by Erina Reddan is a story about long buried family secrets. In 1968, 10 year old JJ McBride’s mother leaves home without saying goodbye. As the days go by, JJ spots inconsistencies in her father’s answers to her questions about her mother’s disappearance, ultimately destroying their relationship. Fourteen years later, JJ returns home for her Aunt Peg’s funeral and is confronted with the past that she thought she left behind. As JJ and her siblings clean out Peg’s home, JJ will have to decide how far she’ll push for answers about the past without further damaging her relationships with her siblings. Overall this was a great story, but it took some time to get into. There’s a lot of Australian jargon that slowed the pace some, but everything was tied up in the end. The Serpent’s Skin is available Tuesday, March 2, 2021. Goodreads Rating: 3/5 stars #erinareddan #theserpentsskin #netgalley #arcs #advancedreadercopy #fiction #fictionbooks #mystery #mysterybooks #readin2021 #panterapress #whatthebook #bookreviews #readersofinstagram #bookaholic @netgalley https://www.instagram.com/p/CL22TRMAevi/?igshid=1lf01aevl9ry8

I don't usually write a paragraph, but sometimes the universe brings you full circle and needs to be acknowledged. One of the first @supanovaexpo panels I worked front of house for was the wonderful @lynettenoni. She talked world building, @panterapress and author-ish things, and I guess it was one of the reasons that I decided to publish my work. Today there are 2 signed copies of Dark Conduits on the shelf at @dymocksbooks Garden City - Look where they put me. https://www.instagram.com/p/BzkN2r_jxgxsobAm-cQyzjR8QpGNkV_CBG3T0c0/?igshid=yrv3f3epvrhd

I can't believe I've left it so long to pick up the sequel but the detail in this book was just incredible. ☁️ There is so much to love in this series, the friendships, friendly banter, action packed fight scenes, the magic and rivalry...I'm so excited to delve into the next 2 books. @lynettenoni @panterapress ☁️ QOTD: What books did you read over the weekend? ☁️ #booknerdigans #bibliophile #bookstagram #books #booknerd #bookporn #instabooks #bookphotography #igreads #bookaholic #bookworm #booklover #bookaddict #epicreads #yalit #booklove #vscobooks #vscocam #vscoreads #bookblogger #booktuber #aussiereaders #AusYAbloggers

‪8 Sep 2017.‬ What are some of your most anticipated 2018 releases? I'm pretty darn keen for #Obsidio, the final book in the #Illuminae series, but there's something else that is making me all jittery with excitement.‬ It's @lynettenoni's WHISPER! I have the honour of being one of the bloggers who gets to help reveal the US/CAN cover from @KCPLoft (@KidsCanPress) and holy cow I'm so excited. You can swipe to see the cover in more detail.‬ #WhisperIsComing on May 1 2018 for US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and from the VERY little that I know about it, it sounds phenomenal.‬ But you don't have to take my word for it because Sarah J. Maas has a quote about her experience on the front cover: "Compulsively readable, compellingly narrated and so full of twists and turns that I couldn't put it down until I'd turned the final page. I loved every sentence of Whisper." That's some pretty freaking high praise from the author of #ThroneOfGlass and #ACourtOfThornsAndRoses. Can't wait to see what the Australian cover of Whisper is like when @PanteraPress reveals it!‬ ‪ ‬ ‪ ‬ . . . . . . ‪ ‬ ‪#coverreveal #akarnae #raelia #draekora #graevale #bibliophile #booknerd #bookworm #bookstagramfeature #booknerdigans #bookishfeatures #booknow #bookphoto #bookphotography #bookish #loveozya‬
