It's a little concerning, watching his partner's Space Marine interact with his infant daughter. The giant cradles his daughter with care, speaking to his daughter in that strange language of Space Marines. The Space Marine had been gentle and attentive, at times even more so than him and his wife.

Originally it seemed like a good thing, after all, 3 adults looking after one infant is better than 2 right? He was so relieved at the start, it meant that he could return to work sooner, trusting the Space Marine to look after his wife and infant. Then one day when he picked up his daughter, she had instantly started wailing until the Space Marine plucked her from his arms. Perhaps it was just a sign that he's not home enough? That his infant daughter didn't recognize him? He made a point to be home more then, though he realizes that it didn't help. Not when his wife's Space Marine is practically always around his daughter.

He had brought it up to his wife, asking her if she could talk to her Space Marine. He's not going to suggest she tell her Space Marine to back off, god no, she won't take it well. No, he makes it sound more like asking her Space Marine to relax. With how the massive Space Marine is seemingly non-stop tending to his daughter, surely the big guy wants a break? Come on, everyone needs to rest and relax right? Even Space Marines.

His words were brushed aside. Her Space Marine loves their daughter, look how good he is with her!

"He's better than any nanny out there and it means we can save on childcare!"

That was what was said when he tried talking to his wife. That he's just anxious from being a new father. Yet he does notice a pattern in how the Space Marine seems to keep him away from his own daughter. But why? Why keep him, the father, away from his daughter? Anyone else he understands but him? He's known his wife and her Space Marine for almost three years now, not once had he ever clashed with the Space Marine. What caused this change?

The Space Marine knows that he's actively keeping his human's husband from interacting with his own child. Who can blame him? He doesn't know if he can trust the man around his human's infant. He's just protecting the one being that meant the most to his human. That and he doesn't think the man will be a good father. Too much of a doormat, too timid, scrawny. He can close an eye to him getting close to and wedding his human but now that his human has a little infant? How can he raise a child right? No, the man is not necessary, not anymore.

He'll take over from here, he and his human have done the impossible together before. He believes the both of them can raise a child, soft and vulnerable as infants are. He's sure he and his human alone can manage to raise the little girl right, without that man.

Today marks the 15th (!) anniversary of this event, so I figure it's the perfect day to post it. Though sweet pool is in the title, there's a lot of fun Togainu no Chi & Lamento content in this one. He croons roughly to his human when she returns, her little daughter is still in his makeshift baby carrier. She instantly smiles up at him and hugs him tightly. A soft gentle pat on his cheeks makes him thrill happily, or as much as one like him can thrill. He follows her to the dining room where she puts her bag down on a chair.

He has her dinner hot and ready for her, all nicely laid out at her seat. He's more than happy to sit on the floor beside her just to be closer to her level while she eats her dinner. She's very animated as she talks about her colleagues. Interesting, so one of them is expecting? That's good, his human will have another person she can relate to.

She asks how her daughter has been and oh does he purr loudly as he shifts her child to hold her little daughter out to his human. Gothic words eagerly details how his human's little one has been such a little angel today. In his extremely bias opinion, he thinks the little one is the best infant in the world.

Of course he knows his human doesn't understand a word he says but that's alright. His eyes glint dangerously as he notices how she has yet to ask him about her husband. Good. He has been making sure her husband doesn't get to come home as often. It pays to be friendly with Alpha Legionaries.
