An Italian court has given a Pakistani couple life sentences for killing their 18-year-old daughter because she refused an arranged marriage.
Saman Abbas's body was found at a farmhouse in northern Italy in November 2022, 18 months after she disappeared.
Her father, Shabbar Abbas, was arrested in Pakistan and extradited to be tried for her murder in August.
Her mother, Nazia Shaheen, was convicted in her absence. She is believed to be in hiding in Pakistan.
Shabbar Abbas had earlier made an impassioned plea to the court, asserting that "never in my life did I think of killing my daughter".
The teenager's uncle, Danish Hasnain, was given 14 years in jail for involvement in the murder, but two of her cousins were cleared.
Saman Abbas's so-called honour killing by her family in late April 2021 shocked Italy. Following her disappearance, Italy's union of Islamic communities issued a fatwa - a religious ruling - rejecting forced marriages.
The teenager had emigrated with her family from Pakistan to the farm town of Novellara in 2016, according to Italian reports.
She began dating a young man of Pakistani origin, and a photograph of them kissing on a street in the regional capital, Bologna, reportedly drew the fury of her parents.
Italian investigators said Saman Abbas's parents had wanted her to travel to Pakistan for an arranged marriage in 2020, but she refused.
She then lived for several months under the protection of social services from October that year, but returned to the family home in Novellara in late April 2021 in response to a flurry of messages from her family, Italian reports said.
Prosecutors said she had been tricked into returning home and it was at this point she disappeared.
CCTV footage released by the police showed three of Saman Abbas's family members walking with spades, a crowbar and a blue bag on 29 April 2021. The following day, separate footage showed the missing teenager leaving the house with her parents.
Her body was eventually recovered last November, close to a farm house not far from where the family lived, after her uncle had revealed where she had been buried.
A post mortem examination found she had suffered a broken neck bone, possibly as a result of being strangled.
Her parents had immediately left Italy for Pakistan after she disappeared, while her uncle Danish Hasnain and two of her cousins travelled to France and Spain.
The uncle was eventually detained in Paris in 2021, while her father was arrested in 2022 and finally extradited on 31 August this year. Her mother remains at large.
Although Nazia Shaheen was in absentia, the court in the northern city of Reggio Emilia convicted both parents and sentenced them to life in jail.
Shabbar Abbas had earlier told the court he was innocent, insisting he and his wife had only followed their daughter on the night she disappeared because they were unhappy it was so late and they wanted to see where she was going.
"This trial is not complete. I too want to know who killed my daughter," he said, according to Italian media.
The idea that a murder can be "honourable" is believed to have come from some tribal customs, where an allegation against a woman is perceived to bring dishonour to her family.
According to these customs, male family members of a woman who has interactions with unrelated men - however innocuous - should first kill the woman, then go after the man.
Human rights groups say the most common reasons for "honour killings" are when the victim refuses to enter into an arranged marriage or have been raped or sexually assaulted.
But killings can be carried out for more trivial reasons, like dressing in a way deemed inappropriate or displaying behaviour seen as disobedient.
In Pakistan, hundreds of women are killed in this way each year. A much smaller number of men are also murdered in such cases. Last month, an 18-year-old woman in the remote Kohistan district was shot dead by her father and uncle on orders from tribal elders - because of a photo that showed her with a man. The photo, which went viral, was later found to have been doctored. Her father has been arrested while her uncle is on the run.

An emerging media narrative in Pakistan is raising questions about its longstanding policy of recognition of Israel conditional on Palestinian statehood.
Opinion pieces in major newspapers, alongside guests on television talk shows and social media influencers, have opened a discussion about the prospect of unconditional recognition of Israel - something hitherto unimaginable in Pakistan, where rallies in support of Palestine can draw tens of thousands onto the streets.
The main trigger for the current round of commentary on the issue was a visit to Israel last month by a group of mostly US-Pakistani dual nationals who met Israeli President Isaac Herzog [...]
the visit caused outrage in Pakistan when it emerged the delegation included a Pakistani television journalist, Ahmed Quraishi, who was not a dual national and for whom it was therefore prohibited under Pakistani law to travel to Israel.
Quraishi was fired from his job with the state broadcaster PTV. [...]
[Imran] Khan criticised Quraishi at rallies in which he also said the current government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had been “tasked with recognising Israel”. [...]
Writing in Israel’s Haartez newspaper, Kunwar Khuldune Shahid said Pakistan’s recognition of Israel was now “inevitable” because of Islamabad’s economic dependence on Saudi Arabia and the kingdom’s own direction of travel towards normalisation under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. [...]
An unconditional nod of approval towards Israel would send a message that Pakistan as a state has given up on the Kashmiri cause too,” said Alam. [...]
Should Pakistan’s own leaders choose to follow the Emiratis, Karim said they faced a real risk of provoking dangerous unrest. [...]
In November 2020, Imran Khan revealed that Pakistan had come under pressure from the US and other countries to recognise Israel. Asked whether he meant Muslim countries, Khan said: "There are things we cannot say. We have good relations with them.”
Rumours within Pakistani foreign policy circles suggest Saudi Arabia was one of those friendly countries pressuring Khan's government.

Princess Diana died before I was born, so why do I care about her?
As a child, I didn’t fully understand the similarities between the princess’s life and that of many women of colour. Now I can truly appreciate her legacy

Diana’s connection with cultures other than her own is something we can all learn from
(PA)
Princess Diana has always been a part of my life.
From drinking out of souvenir mugs from her wedding to Prince Charles to reading the newspapers my mum kept from the day she died, I’ve always felt connected to the late princess. But why?
I was born in 1999, two years after her death. I wasn’t alive to see her marry into and later divorce the royal family, or to witness her commendable charity work. But I, like many others, still feel the lasting legacy of the Princess of Wales through her influence on my own family and on wider British society.
My first memory of knowing about the princess was through the boxes of memorabilia my mum kept about her over the years. From books to magazines, newspapers to souvenirs – these possessions are nearly as dear to my mother as baby photos of me and my relatives.
My mum – like many older women of colour from Asian and African backgrounds – has always felt connected to Diana, and has passed that on to her children. To say a bad word against “Lady Di” would surely be cause for a heated argument, not that I would ever attempt to do so anyway.
While I didn’t fully understand this when I was younger, I now see the similarities between the princess’s life and that of many women of colour from certain cultural backgrounds – the pressures of pleasing in-laws, suffering silently in times of trouble, and an unconditional dedication to one’s family.
What was different about Diana was that she was able to leave the suffocating environment she was in – an option many women feel they don’t have. This is why these women identify with Diana – her struggles, and her bravery in many ways, appeal to those who have suffered in silence.

Diana’s connection with cultures other than her own is something we can all learn from. Her many visits to Pakistan and her appreciation of our culture is surely cemented in the minds of Pakistanis at home and abroad, especially given the overwhelmingly negative portrayals of us throughout the media and society.
Not only this, but her commitment to humanitarian issues, especially those in countries such as Angola and Sri Lanka, drew attention to problems that may not otherwise have been given coverage. In particular, I remember learning of her walking through minefields in Huambo, Angola despite the risk, as well as her hugging HIV and Aids patients at a time of hysteria around the transmissibility of the illness.
In these moments, she changed public perception, broke down stigma, and further proved her selfless commitment to tackling societal issues, despite the alleged backlash she faced from the royal family in response.
Today, the legacy of Diana is still as present as ever, as she is remembered during every royal event – including last weekend’s platinum jubilee celebrations for the Queen’s 70-year reign. On these occasions, my mum will never fail to bring up Diana and how she should still be here.
There is a lot we should have learned from Diana’s life and death. Most importantly, in respect of the treatment of public figures by the British press. It is relentless, targeted, and often cruel, and the coverage of Diana’s daughter-in-law, Meghan, is a key example of this.
Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back as working members of the royal family in 2020, and have since shared details of their treatment at the hands of both the press and the royals. From the racist comments about Meghan in certain publications to the alleged concerns of the royal family about her son Archie’s skin tone, and the duchess’s battle with suicidal thoughts as a result – it’s impossible not to draw parallels between Meghan and Diana.
When the duke and duchess came forward about their experiences, it should have drawn people’s minds back to how Diana was treated, and caused another push for change. Instead, the backlash against the couple for speaking out was intense and unjust.
Despite this, Harry has said he has no doubt that his mother would be proud of him, as he is living the life she would have wanted for herself. I agree.
I see Harry as a man simply trying to protect his wife and children, just as Diana should have been protected. If there’s anything the late princess would have wanted, it would be for her children to live happy and safe lives, which is all Harry is trying to achieve.
Despite not knowing a time when Diana was alive, I see how her legacy lives on. Her charitable nature, family values and care for others are traits we can all learn from, 25 years after her death.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: India has been accused! India reportedly ordered assassinations in Pakistan!! Following the 2019 Pulwama attack, media reports indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office implemented a heightened national security strategy, which involved focusing on combating terrorist threats beyond India's borders, particularly in Pakistan and Western countries.
Pakistani investigators have asserted that the killings were orchestrated by Indian 'sleeper cells' operating from the UAE. These clandestine operatives reportedly disbursed substantial sums to local criminal elements and impoverished Pakistanis to carry out the murders, alongside recruiting jihadists under the guise of targeting 'infidels' for their cause.
Indian and Pakistani intelligence were cited as sources in the report as one Indian official claimed that India was inspired by Russia’s KGB and Israel’s Mossad as it conducted 20 killings since 2020! Interestingly, this is not the first such accusation. Last year, Canada accused Indian agents of killing Hardeep Nijjar while the US accused India of attempting the murder of Khalistani separatist Gurupatwant Pannun! The Ministry of External Affairs has denied all these allegations while calling them ‘false and malicious anti-India propaganda’! Did India really order killings? Or is India being defamed by someone?? Follow Jobaaj Stories (the media arm of Jobaaj.com Group) for more.

Sana Javed's Marriage to Umair Jaswal Reportedly Hits Rock Bottom
Tumblr media
**Pakistani Actress Sana Javed's Marriage Reportedly Hits Rock Bottom**
Amidst a flurry of social media speculations, rumors of Pakistani actress Sana Javed's separation from her husband, singer Umair Jaswal, have surfaced, casting a shadow over their two-year marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in 2020, has reportedly distanced themselves, raising concerns about the status of their relationship.
The first hints of trouble emerged when both Sana Javed and Umair Jaswal mysteriously removed all traces of their couple pictures from their respective social media accounts. This conspicuous absence of shared memories sparked widespread curiosity, with fans questioning the couple's decision to erase their digital footprints.
https://ga0.site
Adding fuel to the fire was the couple's noticeable absence from each other's lives during recent festivities. Eid, a significant occasion for Pakistani families, typically sees loved ones gather and celebrate. However, this year, Sana Javed was not seen attending any of the Jaswal family's Eid celebrations, further fueling speculations of a rift.
While neither Sana Javed nor Umair Jaswal has publicly addressed the rumors, their actions have undoubtedly raised eyebrows among their fans and industry colleagues. The couple's silence has only intensified the curiosity surrounding their relationship, leaving many wondering if the sparks have faded.
As the rumors continue to swirl, fans are eagerly awaiting any official confirmation or denial from the couple. The absence of clear communication has left many concerned about Sana Javed's well-being, with many offering her their support during this uncertain time.
Only time will tell if Sana Javed and Umair Jaswal can manage to salvage their marriage or if they will ultimately decide to part ways. However, the current situation undoubtedly casts a shadow over their once picture-perfect relationship.

(Reuters) - The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), which claimed a deadly attack on Chinese citizens in Karachi on Tuesday, is the most prominent of a number of separatist groups operating against the Pakistani state in the southwestern province of Balochistan.
BLA's stated aim is complete independence for Balochistan, Pakistan's largest province by territory but the smallest in terms of population given its arid mountainous terrain.
The province has seen a decades-long insurgency against what separatists call the unfair exploitation of resources in the mineral-rich region.
Balochistan borders Afghanistan to the north, Iran to the west and has a long coastline on the Arabian Sea. It has Pakistan's largest natural gas field and is believed to have many more undiscovered reserves.
It is also rich in precious metals including gold, the production of which has grown over recent years.
Most of the separatist groups operate independently, but some recent reports in local media have pointed to increasing cooperation between them.
Pakistani security forces have been their main focus, but in recent years they have also targeted Chinese interests, given Beijing's increasing economic footprint in the region.
Among China's major projects in Balochistan is the port of Gwadar, strategically located near the Strait of Hormuz - a crucial oil shipping route in the Arabian Sea. Chinese engineers working at the port came under attack from an operation claimed by the BLA last year.
A Chinese company also operates a major gold and copper mine in Balochistan.
The security of its nationals in Pakistan has become a major issue for Beijing, especially since it launched the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which envisages development projects worth more than $60 billion.
The BLA says it attacks Chinese nationals because Beijing ignored warnings not to enter deals and agreements regarding Balochistan before the province had been "liberated". Reuters has not been able to verify its claims independently.
The group demands that all Pakistani security forces withdraw from Balochistan and has suggested negotiations in the presence of an "international guarantor".
It claims its "Fidayees" (guerrillas) are made up of young, educated Baloch who are disillusioned by hardship and being sidelined from economic development.
Under its current guise, the BLA was led by Balach Marri, scion of an influential Baloch family. Security officials said Marri was killed in neighbouring Afghanistan in 2007, where he had established a base and hideout.
After initially being hampered by Marri's death, the BLA has accelerated its attacks, particularly in the last year.
The group says it is currently led by a man named Bashir Zeb Baloch, the organisation's shadowy commander-in-chief about whom little is known.
The BLA has claimed a number of major attacks in recent months, including a simultaneous storming of two paramilitary bases in Balochistan earlier this year.
Most of the attacks take place in Balochistan or in the southern city of Karachi, Pakistan's commercial hub located close to the province.
The BLA claimed attacks there on the Pakistan Stock Exchange Building in 2020 and the Chinese consulate in 2018.

Pakistan arrests dissident TV news anchor
Tumblr media
Pakistani TV Anchor Arrested for Spreading False Content In a recent development, senior Islamabad-based TV anchor Khalid Jamil has been apprehended by Pakistani security agents. Jamil, known for his criticism of government authorities, faces charges of disseminating false information about state institutions on social media. This arrest, confirmed by both his news channel and family, has raised concerns about freedom of the press in Pakistan. Jamil's detention occurred during a late-night raid at his residence in the capital city, Islamabad. A photograph circulating on social media depicts him holding a sign displaying his case number, seemingly in police custody. Subsequently, an Islamabad court granted permission for the Federal Investigation Agency to interrogate Jamil for two days. This incident has garnered strong condemnation from the journalistic community within Pakistan. The country has had a longstanding reputation as a perilous place for reporters. In 2020, it ranked ninth on the Committee to Protect Journalists' annual Global Impunity Index, highlighting the challenges faced by journalists who often encounter harassment and violence, with perpetrators frequently evading justice. Over recent years, government authorities and the security establishment have intensified their crackdown on activists and journalists, curtailing the space for criticism and dissent. Criticizing the military can lead to threats, intimidation, sedition charges, and, in some instances, abrupt arrests without prior warning. This situation underscores the need for continued vigilance in safeguarding press freedom and human rights in Pakistan. Read the full article

Terror suspects arrested
The two men, identified as Mohammed Imran, 23, and Mohammed Yunus Saki, 24, were apprehended while trying to steal a motorcycle. They had been experimenting with building and detonating bombs, the reports said.
By AJN STAFF August 6, 2023, 7:21am
Tumblr media
Nariman Chabad House director Rabbi Israel Kozlovsky shows shrapnel marks from the 2008 terror attacks on the eve of their 10th anniversary in 2018.
(TIMES OF ISRAEL) - Two Islamic terror suspects detained in India in recent days were plotting to carry out a series of bombings and had carried out surveillance of the Chabad House in Mumbai, Indian media reported on Monday.
The reports, quoting sources in the Maharashtra state anti-terrorism squad, said that during an ongoing probe into a local Islamist terror group known as Al-Sufa, two men were arrested over the weekend in the city of Pune.
They were found to be in possession of explosives, drone equipment, laptops and incriminating books written in Arabic. Among the documents found on a phone were pictures of the Chabad House in Mumbai and its GPS coordinates, the reports said.
Seven people were killed by gunmen at the Chabad House in 2008, including emissaries Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg - part of several attacks on Mumbai sites over four days by an Islamist Pakistani group. In total, 166 people were killed and hundreds injured.
Israel's Channel 12 news reported that Israeli intelligence cooperated in the probe leading to the arrest of the two men and that, in coordination with local authorities, security at the Jewish site had been stepped up.
The report said the investigation was looking at a possible link between the suspects and Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). However, Indian media reports said the Al-Sufa group, which emerged in 2015, is most likely linked to jihadist groups in Pakistan.
The two men, identified as Mohammed Imran, 23, and Mohammed Yunus Saki, 24, were apprehended while trying to steal a motorcycle. They had been experimenting with building and detonating bombs, the reports said.
There have been several other terror attacks on Israeli and Jewish targets in India.
In 2021, a blast outside the Israeli embassy in New Delhi damaged cars but caused no injuries, in an attack India has said was carried out by the Quds Force branch of Iran's IRGC.
A letter found close to the scene warned the Israeli ambassador that he was being watched and vowed to avenge the deaths of three "martyrs": IRGC commander Qassem Soleimani and top Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdia al-Muhandis, who were killed in a 2020 US drone strike; and Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the architect of Iran's nuclear program, killed in a 2020 attack Tehran has blamed on Israel.
In February 2012, the wife of the Israeli military attaché was injured in a car bomb attack in New Delhi. Indian police concluded that Iran was behind that attack too.
It was part of a series of attempted attacks against Israeli targets around the world attributed to Iran during that period.

Social Media Marketing and Buying Behavior of Pakistani Female Consumers
https://www.proquest.com/docview/2410833560?accountid=17287
This is an article that studies the relationship between women's consumption and social media in Pakistan
A representative sample of 350 female social media users was interviewed. Results show that the most relevant factor influencing consumer buying behavior appears to be social media marketing. Most women change their minds when they see new, glamorous items on social media. Usually in any kind of consumption behavior, there are two very common factors, the first is social factors, and the second is cultural factors, both of which have a strong influence on the purchasing decisions of young people
Branded products are a major part of women's lifestyle accessories, and most respondents believe social media plays an important role in their shopping decisions.
Female respondents dismissed the notion that product attributes displayed in social media marketing were real. Although they agree that social media marketing gives you a strong perception of the product, and celebrities in marketing influence buying behavior. When they asked women if they thought they were inspired by social media marketing when they shopped for luxury brands, most women agreed. When they were asked how social media marketing influences their buying behavior and whether they think social media marketing influences their consumption patterns. Most respondents also agreed. Respondents also agreed that the presence of luxury brands deceives women, while social media often brings negative information about various substandard goods
Adnan, M., Yousaf, Z., Babar, M. Q. Z., & Malik, S. M. (2020). Social media marketing and emergence of aspirational brand luxury: Female consumers’ buying behavior in Pakistan. Pakistan Journal of Commerce and Social Sciences, 14(1), 409–423

Indian woman crosses border for love, goes to Pakistan to meet man she met on Facebook
Anju became friends on the social media platform Facebook a few months ago.
Tumblr media
Even as the Pakistani national Seema Haider remained in the discussion for illegally entering India through the Nepal border with her four children, another similar incident has come to the fore. Now, an Indian woman has crossed the border to meet her lover.

But Arvind came to know via media that Anju had gone across the border to meet her lover. The couple has a 15-year-old girl and a five-year-old son.
Arvind further said that he had no idea that she had gone to meet a named Nasrullah in Pakistan. He said her passport was issued in 2020 as she wanted to apply for a job abroad. He said that before this she had never gone out of the city. She once had gone to Faridabad to meet her relative.

Seema Haider story
Recently, Seema Ghulam Haider, a Pakistani mother of four, sneaked into India to live with Sachin Meena, a Hindu man she got in touch with while playing PUBG in 2019. Seema (30) and Sachin (22) are currently leaving in the Rabupura area of Greater Noida. According to the couple, Seema and Sachin Meena got in touch while playing PUBG in 2019 and a dramatic love story unfolded between the two living more than 1,300 km apart, in countries not too friendly to each other. Seema and Sachin live in the Rabupura area of Greater Noida, near Delhi, where he runs a provision store, according to Uttar Pradesh Police.
While Seema was arrested on July 4 for illegally entering India without a visa via Nepal with her four children and Sachin was put behind bars for sheltering the illegal immigrants. At present, the police and investigative agencies are investigating Seema. It was earlier reported that the security agencies were planning to send Seema back to Pakistan soon, but later it became clear that she will be in India till the investigation is completed.

Cittadinanza italiana: crescono le acquisizioni
Tumblr media
