Working from reference ( or from life) and working from imagination feel different to me. I love working from life or reference, because the process then is about how I choose to translate what I see into brushstrokes. I think purely visually. When working from imagination, I tend to think more about what I make. Here I tried to work as intuitively as I do when working from reference. I did do a quick initial sketch, but allowed the paint to lead the way. Gouache is a very forgiving medium, and you can make adjustments almost like you would digitally. Well.. without the undo button of course... Today’s prompt is a favorite painting. So I’ll begin.⠀ ⠀ “Mystical Mother Nature” is a favorite painting of mine. I feel this painting describes me as an artist and person more than most of my paintings thus far. I love the mysterious nature of it with serene eyes watching you that seem to follow you around the room and the turquoise mist surrounding her land hiding her. It evokes a feeling of a warm embrace yet a bit of distant haunting. Which, if you know me very well is sooo up my alley. Not only do I love how this painting turned out, I really enjoyed painting it as well. It went through some transformations which echo my own as an artist.
