Suptober day 5 - Part 2: Afternoon Into Evening
The long-awaited middle part to Restless, which began here .
Dean and Cas share their special day with their family and friends.
Suptober prompt: Portrait
(Read on AO3)
Half an hour later, they're pulling in to the venue, a picturesque little barn a few miles outside of town, situated on three acres of wildflower meadows and grazing sheep. Dean parks the Impala in the VIP Reserved spot. As he gets out, he gives her a pat on the roof and mutters, “Sam's probably gonna tart you up today, darlin'. But I made him promise not to do anything that'll leave a mark.”
On cue, his baby brother comes galumphing up out of nowhere.
“You're late,” he announces, Bitch Face #12 on full display.
“Keep your knickers buttoned, Samantha,” Dean replies breezily. “We're here now. That's all that matters.”
“Okay, sure, whatever. Well, the rest of us have been working for a couple hours already, but there's still a lot left to do. Cas, you can head inside and talk to Jody. She's in charge of decorations and setup. Dean, you're with me. We've gotta go pick up the booze order.”
The bridegrooms-to-be exchange a quick, dry peck of a kiss, then head off to their respective tasks.
~~~~~
By noon the place is gorgeously tricked out. Flowers and fairy lights adorn every available surface. Rows of folding chairs await guests' butts. Countless bottles of beer and wine are chilling on ice, and the caterers are starting to load in for the massive barbecue dinner.
The setup crew, all their nearest and dearest, sit down together at a group of picnic tables and share a rollicking pizza lunch. Precisely at 1:00, everyone except Dean and Cas heads back to the Bunker for showers and fresh clothes.
“Time to get prettied up ourselves, Sunshine,” Dean drawls as they stuff the last of the empty pizza boxes in the trash can nearby. The grab their garment bags from Baby's trunk and climb upstairs to the private changing area in the barn's loft.
~~~~~
Only the threat of interruption by an overworked Samsquatch keeps Dean from getting a little quickie action goin' with his handsome almost-husband. As fast as Cas can put on the pieces of his tailored suit, Dean itches with the urge to peel them back off.
He reminds himself to save it for the honeymoon, and concentrates on the job at hand. By the time the photographer calls up the stairs for them at 2:00 they're fully suited and coiffed, and ready to get their Blue Steels on. They take some formal portraits first, corny prom-type poses that Dean knows he's gonna treasure in the years to come. The wedding party returns around 3:00 and then there are many many many more photos, both posed and candid. At one point a couple of the more personable sheep get involved, and Cas almost loses his boutonniere to a particularly peckish ewe.
Guests start to arrive a little after 4:00, hunter friends and townies mingling freely, conversation lubricated with generous glasses of chilled sangria and various trays of nibblies. Dean and Cas circulate, sometimes separately, sometimes together. They greet their loved ones, chat and laugh and enjoy the party atmosphere, but they never really take their eyes off of each other.
As the sun starts to sink, burnishing the light to a buttery gold, Eileen rings a bell to call everyone into the barn for the main event. The ceremony is 20% pagan handfasting, 20% Enochian ritual, 20% traditional rite, 20% Led Zeppelin lyrics, and 20% lifted wholesale from Dr. Piccolo's third wedding (the one that had to be annulled after it turned out the groom was actually the disgraced fugitive ex-hospital administrator in disguise.) Dapper in a suit that matches his dads, Jack officiates. Helpless with love, undone with joy, Dean tears up the moment his son begins to speak, and he continues to weep steadily all through the vows and right up to the soggy kiss he shares with his equally-emotional newly-consecrated spouse.
Concludes here

Tarot and Rune Readings
Tumblr media
Let me preface this by saying that the job hunt is a lousy and stressful thing, leading to many sleepless nights and nauseated and crying mornings. I put out at least 10-15 applications a day, and with a BA in English and MFA in Creative Writing, I should've had non-scam bites by employers by now. This has been going on for months. I wanted to move to NC this year and get the hell out of Texas, which is becoming more and more dangerous to live in by the day. I never know when I leave my house if I'm going to be shot for being bisexual, genderfluid, pagan, a uterus owner, wearing a mask in a world that isn't done with the pandemic yet (despite what anyone says), or just for existing in a space that a cis white straight conservative Christian man (or woman) is in where they just don't like my face that day. The lack of a job and incoming funds has made my sister, with whom I live and hoped to move to NC with before the end of the year, hesitant to move because it will be expensive to move across country, find a place, and live without it, but the jobs are just not coming, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm terrified of what will happen if we stay here.
I've got 30 years experience in reading Tarot and probably roughly 20 reading runes. I also have 22 years using psychometry, which comes in the form of symbols and ideas that mean something to the owner of the object. I've been doing dream interpretation even back into my teens (I'm almost 50 now, if that helps). I've worked dozens of psychic fairs when I still lived in South Texas and there was a shop there that held them four or five times a year. I'm good at what I do, and I'm prompt at getting back to someone who requests and pays for a reading. Only if I'm away from my computer on errands am I just not available at that moment but will make myself available as soon as I can.
I'm not going to lie. I need to get some financial security under me so that I can pay my bills, help cover rent, groceries, and to push for the move out of the rapidly growing more dangerous state that I live in. I'm willing to work for the money, and I'm not going to give half-assed replies to questions. I've got PayPal and Venmo and a selection of Tarot and Divination Cards to choose from as well as runes. If you're interested, I sure would like to talk and pull cards for you - in helping you, you'd be helping me, and it would be a great cycle of exchanged energy that would make things positive for the both of us.
My prices are:
$30 for 3-5 tarot cards
$50 for a full spread, 30 minute reading
$75 for for full spread, 1 hour readings
$25 Dream Interpretation
$35 Rune reading
Readings done online over IM chat (I have FB Messenger and Discord and can be persuaded to get back on Skype if preferred). I'm still learning Zoom but can probably work that out as well. I will provide a write up and photo of the reading, with the exception of Dream Interpretation, which will just have a write-up. Payment up front and readings to follow immediately.
I have also set up a secondary Tumblr for tarot/dreams where I may compile interesting topics from time to time as life permits. Please feel free to follow this blog, too, and messaging me there will also message me on my main Tumblr.
Mimir's Well.
Message me on Tumblr for further communication.
Thank you!

Introduction: Who is Teigh at Mimir's Well?
A displaced beach witch currently living at almost the center of one of the worst states in the U.S., my name is Teigh. Hi. (Everyone say, "Hi, Teigh," as if we were at one of those meetings and here to help each other out - I'm a great listener, and that helps in this profession.) I'm a half-century old, bisexual, genderfluid, Nordic pagan who loves animals, drinks tea obsessively, drinks coffee less obsessively, loves to cook and go on photography adventures. I write fiction, poetry, travel non-fiction, and fanfiction in my spare time.
I’ve got 30 years experience in reading Tarot and other divination cards and probably roughly 20 reading runes. I also have 22 years using psychometry, which comes in the form of symbols and ideas that mean something to the owner of the object. I’ve been doing dream interpretation even back into my teens. I've recently started working with a pendulum. I’ve worked dozens of psychic fairs when I still lived in South Texas and there was a shop there that held them four or five times a year. I’m good at what I do, and I’m prompt at getting back to someone who requests and pays for a reading. Only if I’m away from my computer on errands am I just not available at that moment but will make myself available as soon as I can.
I’m not going to lie. I need to get some financial security under me so that I can pay my bills, help cover rent, groceries, and to push for the move out of the rapidly growing more dangerous state that I live in. I’m willing to work for the money, and I’m not going to give half-assed replies to questions. I’ve got PayPal and Venmo and a selection of Tarot and Divination Cards to choose from as well as runes. If you’re interested, I sure would like to talk and pull cards for you - in helping you, you’d be helping me, and it would be a great cycle of exchanged energy that would make things positive for the both of us.
My prices are:
$35 for 3-5 tarot cards
$50 for a full spread, 3-4 decks used, 30 minute reading
$25 Dream Interpretation
$35 Rune reading
$20-$25 for Pendulum readers; price depends on time spent.
Readings done online over IM chat (I have FB Messenger and Discord and can be persuaded to get back on Skype if preferred). I’m still learning Zoom but can probably work that out as well. I will provide a write up and photo of the reading, with the exception of Dream Interpretation, which will just have a write-up. Payment up front and readings to follow immediately.

hellohello Mx. Jasper! I was reading through the forgotten realms wiki, specifically the page(s) on Magic and how it manifests in the world of D&D and the different types. I know you're a pop culture wizard and pagan, and thought to ask you this;
Is the way you think about magic (or religion/spirituality) influenced by the pop culture sources you work with, or vice-versa? (or none at all?)
I thought it was an interesting discussion prompt! Hope all is well (I know it's late as I'm sending this, so I hope you rest well!)
~ Pythios (they/them)
Good morning Mx. Pythios! Thank you for today's dose of enby gender euphoria, and I love your name. I slept terribly, but that's about normal for me, especially because I hiked my entire 80-acre farm twice yesterday in a desperate, divine-inspired bid to touch grass. (Gee thanks, Deer Dad.)
Tumblr media
So let's address your question here. I'm going to break it down into two categories: magic versus religion. Let's start with magic.
Does magic change the way I interact with pop culture sources? Yes. I'm constantly on the lookout for new spell inspiration when I'm flipping through Magic The Gathering cards, looking at Dungeons and Dragons sourcebooks and homebrew, playing Skyrim (even though I enjoy Oblivion more), or learning about the newest Pokemon generation because I do not own a Nintendo Switch and at this point I'm refusing to move on because I'm stubborn.
Does the definition of magic in those pop culture sources impact my craft? Not particularly - the closest thing to that is that D&D impacted my decision to call myself a wizard instead of a witch.
Does it make me think about magic in ways I wouldn't otherwise? Yes, absolutely! Where else would you get card-based magic than MTG? (Perhaps in tarot-based spells or spell oracle decks.) Where else would you get as fascinating entities as the atronachs of The Elder Scrolls? Where else would you get a tiny Shiny Charmander as a familiar spirit?
It also leads to fun quotes such as "the Flumph made my spell do a fucky-wucky" in group chats with my pals Fool Chicken of @windvexer and Runa of @serpentandthreads.
Tumblr media
Am I impacted by pop culture in the way I think of religion? A little bit, actually! In D&D, there's a Faiths and Pantheons web enhancement called Deity Do's and Don'ts that you can find a PDF of almost anywhere. The breaking down of signs from deities into the various categories (animals/plants, monsters, gems/precious metals, colors, and miscellaneous) inspired me to do something a little similar when I make reference documents of the deities I honor, worship, or work with.
It also impacts how I think of deities. The D&D divine power scale (quasi-, lesser, intermediate, greater, over-) doesn't translate to our world's pantheons, but I can use those terms to describe the current influence a particular deity has in my life. For instance, currently Cernunnos is sitting pretty at Greater Influence because I'm currently working with him, while Loki and their family (who I honor) are at Quasi-Influence.
There's also the whole "anyone can become a god" in D&D which affects my own deity classification thing. I draw a line between hero worship and deity worship, but where does that leave figures like Angrboda (a giantess) or Jormungandr (a huge snake)? Since I honor them both like deities, I call them deities, even though they don't have "portfolios" or "domains" in the traditional sense - just what we can scrounge up and apply to them.
Also, like...I'm a pop culture pagan. I worship Azura alongside everyone else. She's literally right there.
Does my view of my religion impact my experiences with pop culture? Yes. Fanfiction has gotten so freaking weird to write or read when it comes to Azura or even just...broad myth-based stories. I keep getting hit with the overwhelming sense of "wow, these writers could not have gotten Athena and Aphrodite more wrong" and it makes mythology-based media really weird for me.
Like...mythological figures aren't just Myth Blorbos, they are actual entities that people STILL, to this day, worship or work with - even the heroes like Odysseus, Orpheus, or Theseus.
Tumblr media
Anyway, that's my two cents here, Pythios. I hope this was interesting for you (and everyone else!) to read and I hope I was able to clearly shed some light on my own practices and how pop culture stuff plays into them.
By the way, the dragon dividers in this post? You can find them here. They were made by @firefly-graphics who does incredible work. I recommend their dividers and their other graphics!

kinktober prompt prep
Sooo I’m putting together my own list of prompts in preparation for kinktober. I’ve been wanting to write a whole bunch of Pagan Poetry-related smut that doesn’t fit in the main story. If there’s anything you’d like to see Pagan x Yang-yang (or other potential pairings/groupings! Also I will probably definitely write at least some of them as Pagan x Reader (either female or GN)) to get up to, please let me know!
List of dirty words under the cut!
[Updated 22-09-17]
Prompts I'm considering:
being recorded
mirror sex
voyeurism
double penetration
anonymous sex
sex work/prostitution
breath play
rope bondage
wax play
gun play
knife/blood play
roleplay
face sitting
nipple play
bath/shower sex
size kink
love bites/marks
aftercare
If you see a prompt on this list you really want me to include, do tell! And of course, tell me if there's something missing.;)
Will most likely be included (because I already have ideas for what to write):
pegging
somnophilia
edging
phone/chat sex
hunter/prey
outdoor sex
public sex/exhibitionism
office sex
pet play
thigh riding
cockwarming
hate sex
wet
humiliation
group sex
masks
Won't be included (because already enough in PaPo):
DD/lg
praise
deep throating
Which is not to say they won't feature at all, just that I won't use them as prompts. I also won't be doing anything that would require an AU (like a/b/o, magic, tentacles etc).

pop culture paganism weekly challenge: day 6 (+ update on T as well)
I’m back with this challenge!
today’s prompt is to have a conversation with slushii, and write down my findings! I used my automatic typing method for this conversation, since I prefer typing on my ipad rather than writing with a pencil. (It’s an autism thing…) I haven’t really been checking on him as often since I’ve been chatting with T, who’s my new spirit companion, for a few days. But I decided to check in on him today after talking with T, and he’s doing great! We even got to have a family meeting so he could meet T and get to say hi to her for the first time.
also, I found that they could see each other, which is understandable because they’re both spirits, but I found it really interesting! T was honored to meet him, she seemed so excited to meet someone who played a big role in my life.
T is honestly such a sweetheart, and I’m so happy to have her!
so yeah, that’s today’s entry! It’s not too long because it wasn’t too long of a conversation, but I wanted to at least give an update on my progress in this challenge.
funny sidenote: it seems like they’ve already gotten along pretty well because I was listening to music and they started belting Daisy 2.0 with slushii as ashnikko and T as miku 😭 it was freaking hilarious and so cute lol

30 Days of Aphrodite: Day 2
2. What was the first offering you ever gave Aphrodite?
I read my journal to confirm this so I don’t remember wrong, but it looks like the first offering I gave to Aphrodite was building an altar to her. I had all kinds of items that were great for placing there in her honor, like (fake)roses, pearls, seashells and a small painting of dolphins, as well as a small mirror. Many of those objects are still on her altar today. I also recall offering her things like chocolate, and creating a devotional pinboard. So I dove right in after deciding that I’m going to worship Aphrodite.
Reading my earliest spiritual journal entries, I was also reminded of how my first interaction with Aphrodite actually went. For yesterday’s prompt I wrote that I was “embraced by her warmth and acceptance” which is true as following her felt like the right thing and I quickly discovered how great Aphrodite is, but during my very first prayer/chat with her I was also a little nervous. I had written in my journal that I felt like “I was talking to the prettiest, most popular girl at school” and it was a little bit intimidating, but Aphrodite is so open and welcoming so that I didn’t feel that way anymore going forward. Yes she’s super cool and amazing but also very kind and encouraging.
I reflected in the journal that my nervousness was mostly because of this fear at the back of my head that the Christian God would punish me for praying to a pagan deity, even though I was separated from the church and didn’t believe in those teachings anymore. I think it’s a very common experience for those who come from a Christian background, you need to consciously unlearn it all and it takes a while. Very soon after I approached Aphrodite I did a ritual to spiritually break any remaining ties to Christianity, so that the fear wouldn’t have any hold on me anymore and I would be free to fully embark on my pagan journey. It helped greatly.

Normandy holidays.
shepard walks around in a santa hat at all times and refuses to listen to any criticism like the true aries they are.
kaidan and ashley reminisce about christmases on earth and manage to get their hands on authentic candy canes. kaidan gets teary-eyed and leaves one in shepard's hoodie without telling them. ashley finds an old recipe for eggnog and they sit drinking and chatting until the early hours of the morning.
wrex refuses to partake. it's a dumb earth tradition and he can't find it in him to care. however, when shepard seems dejected, he begrudgingly attends the dinner and eats with them. he doesn't wear tinsel though. that's where he draws the line.
grunt is dubious at first but with some prompting he joins in. it turns out he loves the festivities, and he spends most of the time starting loud play fights and games. he finds red cloth and drapes it over himself to look like santa.
tali and liara are both absolutely fascinated by the holidays and ask a long string of questions about how traditions differ in different cultures and parts of the world. liara is particularly fascinated by the religious aspect, and spends copious amounts of time researching pagan traditions and where the concept of yule and the marking of the change in season originated. tali is more interested in how it's celebrated, and does her best to make the celebrations multicultural, adding her own quarian spin to it and adding some cool, tecchy lights to brighten up the Normandy.
garrus pretends not to be interested, but he can't help but watch the light return to shepard's eyes when they recount their own christmas experiences over time. their joy and bittersweet celebrations are contagious, and he finds himself humming along to the strange human carols they're singing. when shepard is rosy cheeked and drunk at the end of the day, they tell him all about how they've always celebrated. he doesn't care about the holidays themselves, but shepard gets so wistful and nostalgic, and he's transfixed. they stay up late comparing cultural celebrations and end up celebrating like turians: sparring.
miranda rolls her eyes at the tradition and thinks it's a waste of time. jack sees it as an excuse to get drunk, and boy does she dance when she's had a few. it brings miranda to the party, and despite her derision she finds it's all worth it to have shepard dangle mistletoe in between miranda and jack. she finds herself laughing properly for the first time in a while, and when jack says she's "not as robotic a princess bitch as i thought", there's something a little fond about her tone.
jacob finds an unexpected friend in thane, who is baffled and bemused by the celebrations and keeps out of the way to meditate. samara joins them for a peaceful moment's prayer among themselves, away from all the ruckus. when they find all the trash in the morning, they bemusedly and kindly tidy for the others, though ask any of them and you'll get complete ignorance.
mordin takes so many notes it's ridiculous. he wants to examine different behaviours and how different species respond to very human celebrations. he tries to stay on the sidelines, but vega refuses to let him and draws him in to a festive game of cards. when vega gives up to go and flirt, miranda challenges him to an arm wrestle and puts him on the floor to give him some humility. for the rest of the evening vega is starry eyed about her. quietly, jack takes him aside to tell him to back off, and even threatens to show him an extra good time if he dares go there.
javik refuses to participate in anything. it's, in a word, primitive. liara leaves a gift for him outside his door, however, and the next morning she finds it gone. there's a prothean artefact in his room the next time she visits. he never mentions it, but she smiles at him a little more all the same.
legion doesn't really understand it, but it joins in as much as it can. shepard gives it some N7 armour and although it can't make sense of gift giving or its purpose, it seems to appreciate it all the same in that synthetic way.
joker is the life of the party. he drinks, he dances (as much as he can), he jokes at everyone's expense. he explains the concept of mistletoe to edi purely as an excuse to kiss her, and she is a bit more lenient with him than usual. she finds the festivities interesting, having already learned all there is to know about human culture. experiencing it is different, however, and she confesses to shepard that she feels a strange, human sense of belonging during the celebrations.
harbinger and sovereign get drunk and bitch about shepard for another 50,000 years.

Careful With That Axe, Eugene
Hello, Saiph here with some vague ideas! (Been listening to Pink Floyd a lot lately, so I stole the title off one of the songs)
Here’s our newest OCs, Beau (left) and Eugene (right)
Below is a quick idea of the situation this pair are in, but I would love thoughts and input!
Eugene was the lead singer and guitarist of a metal band before the police came a-knocking about some seriously shady shit he was up to. Band had enough of his cocky attitude anyway, acting like the band’s success was all down to him.
So ‘Dogtooth’ Eugene drives around for a bit, until he ends up in a small town in Oregon where he walks into the nearest music shop and starts destroying his ex-bands albums. Beau, the owner of the shop goes to chuck him out before realising that THE Dogtooth was doing this. Beau goes for a chat with Eugene, takes him for a drink or two before realising he has no place to crash so Beau invites him back to his house.
Where... turns out all the band’s success was down to Eugene, thanks to some human sacrificing and stuff to an obscure pagan deity. Eugene is determined to set up a new band and needs Beau to do the capturing of the sacrifices and hiring of his new band members. How’s he gonna get Beau to do that? Just some good ol’ fashioned blackmail, that’s how!
Feel free to send me asks to help develop these two better or quick prompts for drabbles ^^

~Huzzah! An Intro Post~
Heaven smile upon me, I have no idea what I'm doing.
You, like me, may have yourself a veritable army of original characters you like to develop and desire to ramble about. And you, like me, are deterred from doing so because it is not consider 'polite' and 'becoming' to burst into a public space and exposite to your newly captive audience about what your five main characters (in appearance order!!!) drink with their breakfast.
If you are looking for that much needed enabling (one might even say prompting), than you, my friend, are in the right place!
Every Thursday (with the exception of the first, which will go/went up on a Friday), I am going to attempt to upload a character prompt . Feel free to answer them however you prefer, whether it be reblogging your mildly organized thoughts, hiding them in tags, sending them to your friends and going at it chaotic discord chat style (I highly recommend this), or confining your ungodly creations to your mind palace and silently witnessing the ensuing war crimes.
Also, you have my full endorsement to use this for your fanfiction/headcanons. Heaven knows I will too. 😔
Adjacent to this, my own experience with creating characters has led me to slowly perfecting a character profile sheet. I find using both these methods is among the better ways to develop your characters. Go wild, luvs.

Seasons
For five centuries, the forest-divined Queens of Silva have led their fantastical Queendom to prosperity. Queen Daniella, the newest in her benevolent line, keeps herself sure that her rule will preserve the same, even as the country to the south threatens what could become war. By the light of high noon in mid summer, she and her people prepare and dread for what is to pass.
All Hallowed and Macabre
Once, long before the land became Scotland, mankind worshipped the gods and monsters of the Other World. As the centuries passed, however, and the people preferred to forget their pagan beliefs, so too did they forgot the heathen power Beneath the Earth. Few know the old ways, and those who do keep what yet crosses from the Other World at bay.
The Fiend of Black Mansion and Bones in the Ocean are both too early in their development for the summaries. After they receive the proper amount of development, I will publish all four of the stories I have already listed.
Dead Man's Dreams
This is my take on what would have happened had Hyde not died at the end of Jekyll and Hyde. What, you thought you were safe from the brainrot? Ha, me too. I daydreamed this story after I finished Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and I had intended it to stay as such. Then one day things got out of hand, the story acquired a plot, and thus given the potential, my writer brain possessed me to write it.
Instead of publishing this story, I intend it rather as a demonstration of my writing ability, as well as for the joy of sharing brainrot. I have plans for how you shall see it, and part of that will be here on tumblr, where I hope you will enjoy my creation.

As I shall likely post it on both my writing and gothic literature brainrot blogs, I shall give the related links for your enjoyment or horror.

Hey I was wondering what does seeing heart shape everywhere and all the time mean!!???
Hello There! It sounds like you may be experiencing a synchronicity in seeing hearts everywhere and all the time. This is going to be another long post. Before we get into some possible meanings, let’s chat for a bit about what a synchronicity is and isn’t. That way we can be sure to practice using our discernment when synchronicities are involved, and make informed and empowering choices. To be clear though, seeing symbols (repeating numbers, images like hearts, names etc) isn’t bad or dangourous. It is, however, always a good idea to look at many possible avenues before deciding what something means and then acting on it. Also for the record, I’ll be discussing synchronicities through the lense of tarot since that’s what I primarily work with and know well. Just something to keep in mind for anyone reading this.
⭐️ Google defines a synchronicity as “the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection.” This is a pretty good definition, but when people talk about seeing signs everywhere, they are often referring to the more recent and occult definition.
⭐️ In the world of the occult (which in some capacity encompass witchcraft, paganism, the New Age movement and alternative spirituality), synchronicities have taken on a significance beyond their original definition. Nowadays, we tend to see anecdotes of people noticing repeating symbols showing up, such as repeating numbers, letters, images like hearts, certain animals or even songs. Seeing these things over and over again is often interpreted as being a special sign from the universe or from spirit guides, or angels or any higher power that we hope to communicate with. As such, synchronicities can hold special meanging for the recipients. Very much like tarot, synchronicities have become a way to communicate with the unseen world of spirit and the subconscious.
⭐️ The word “synchronicity” actually hasn’t been around for that long. It was coined in the 1950’s by the psychologist Carl Jung to describe what he referred to as “meaningful coincidences”. I’ve linked some reading below if you’d like to learn some more about this. In a nutshell, Jung believed that a synchronicity was part of a deep and complex psychological process that could provide information on an individual’s subconscious and emotional experience. The idea that synchronicities were messages from Spirit guides, angels or deities was perhaps alluded to, but not explicitly part of Jung’s work.
⭐️ Today, we can use synchronicities as waymarkers of sorts. Think of them as the awake and conscious version of dream symbolism. Seeing something over and over again may trigger certain emotions or remind you of something important. The difficult thing about seeing repeating symbols everywhere is that no one else will be able to accurately interpret them for you. They are only meaningful because your mind has created emotional and/or sensory attatchments to them. For example, smelling vanilla might trigger someone’s memory of baking with grandma. This is an example of a sensory attachment that has meaning for an individual because the scent of vanilla is encoded into their memory by a particular experience.
🌟 What a synchronicity is:
A form of symbolism. Thinking through the lense of tarot, we can interpret synchronicities in a similar way. More on that in a bit. It’s important to keep in mind that all symbolism is subjective and individualistic. Because groups of people share culture and language, there is some general overlap (like a rose representing love), but the truest interpretation will always be a personal one.
An affirmation - Seeing synchronicities can affirm that we are in the right path or in the right place. They do this by helping us recall important experiences that remind us of certain qualities, goals or states that we want to achieve.
A message from Spirit, Angels or a Higher Power - This is the common belief. If your spiritual path includes some of these elements and you seek confirmation or messages through symbolism, then it’s possible that a synchronicity could be a message. This won’t be the case for everyone or all the time though. A message recieved through synchronicity or symbolism is also likely to be guidance or affirmation, rather than hard facts. We should always use our discernment when working with synchronicity in this way.
🌟 What a synchronicity isn’t:
A demand from Spirit, spirit guides or a higher power. You are never obligated do do anything when you notice synchronicities beginning to appear in your life. Instead, you can reflect on them. What might they mean in the moment that you notice them? What messages are they trying to convey.
A dire warning. Sometimes I see things floating around the internet about predicting death or serious illness, etc. These kinds of concerns are best addressed with a licensed medical professional. If you have a worry about something, seeing a synchronicity might prompt you to get it checked out with your doctor, but a synchronicty is not a diagnosis.
Universal. Synchronicities are unique and meaningful only to the recipient. While we can generalize and compare similar experiences to generate some possible interpretations, nothing will be truer than an individual’s own personal interpretation. Essentially, you know yourself best. No one else can tell you about your thoughts better than you. It is wise to use some caution here because it’s quite common for unscrupulous “psychics” to charge quite a bit of money to interpret synchronicities for other people. I’m not saying that all tarot readers and psychics who talk about synchronicities are scam artists, but there are definitely some who are. Be discerning in your selection if you go that route. Also be careful with symbolism dictionaries and interpretation guides. There’s nothing inherently wrong with them, but they may not be 100% accurate for you. If you are able to, it’s actually better (and cheaper) to create your own personal symbolism guide.
🌟 How to interpret synchronicities as symbolism.
Like tarot, symbols are a type of visual language. The most useful and meaningful interpretation is always going to be one that you create yourself. This isn’t a glamorous and magical answer, but it’s true. It also might take a bit of digging to uncover. Scott Cunningham’s book, Dreaming the Divine, outlines this process nicely for dream symbolims. I will briefly describe how to create your own personal symbolism dictionary here.
Think of what thoughts, emotions and/or physical sensations arise when you see a heart. Write this down. What words do you associate with “hearts”? Make a list and write those down too. Don’t worry if they don’t make sense. Write down everything that comes up.
Next, you’ll need to spend some time taking inventory of every time you see a heart. This doesn’t need to be fancy. You can even use the voice notes app on your phone. Every time you see a heart, make note of what you were doing and what you were thinking about in that moment. What emotions do you experience before and after noticing the heart. Write everything down.
Compare your notes from steps 1 and 2. Where do you see overlap? Make a venn diagram if this is is helpful. Otherwise, make a list. The places where both notes intersect is where you will find meaning.
🌟 Heart Symbolism
Sometimes we need a little boost to get started. I also recognize that you probably weren’t asking me to ramble on for a million years about synchronicities, and are hoping for some nice, solid info. (Sorry about that. I do have a tendency to go overboard in the explanation department.) Here are some of my personal interpretations of heart symbolism that I’ve put together after years of reading tarot. Please keep in mind that these might not work for everyone. Some are generalized and others are personal. You are welcome to use them if they resonate.
