In the assigned married fic, has Anakin even begun to process Padme saying that both of them will be moving to Naboo together? Like, they spoke earlier in the chapter about Anakin moving in with her on Coruscant, but Obi-Wan apparently spilled the beans about a much more permanent relocation to Naboo, and I am looking forward to Anakin's response to that, once he gets through processing everything else and remembers that part of the "conversation"....
i think padmé views moving to naboo more as a possibility than a future concrete plan -- the offer to be a permanent advisor on naboo is something she'd like to discuss with anakin as her husband before taking it or rejecting it. she says there's a lot of work she still wants to do in the senate, and she's probably thinking that it will be a few years before she would be able to go anyway. definitely after the war, but in her mind, she thinks anakin has every intention to leave the order after the war's over....because he kind of told her that. at least, in her mind he did: (from chapter 1)
“[Obi-Wan] asked me if I planned to leave the Order after the war,” he tells his wife. “And I lied, and then I think he began to support me. That’s what he looked like, anyway.”
Padmé blinks at him, eyelashes falling slowly onto the jut of her cheek and then rising. “That’s good then,” she says, sounding hesitant. “That he supports us.”
“Yeah,” Anakin replies, raising his hand to tuck a tendril of hair behind her ear.
“Though…I’m sorry you had to lie,” she says, pressing forward until their faces are only a hand’s width apart. “Hopefully…” she trails off, biting her lip. Then she shakes her head slightly, and her mouth turns up into a smile as if she cannot help herself. “Hopefully he will not take the truth so hard.”
so anakin never says what lie he told obi-wan, he just says that he lied when asked if he was going to leave the Order, and that lie made obi-wan support him.
from an outsider's perspective, especially a biased outsider who is married to one of the insiders and believes them to have a future together, padmé's immediate understanding of this is that obi-wan asked if he was going to leave the order and anakin lied to him and told him he planned to stay and obi-wan began to support their marriage because he thinks he won't be losing anakin (padmé, who has three braincells, has long since realized obi-wan's obsessed with her husband)
and that's why she's smiling at the end (and also why they have sex at the fade to black) -- she believes anakin has just told her that when the war ends, he'll leave the Order to be with her and build a future together <3 so the offer to go to naboo is an option she can talk to her husband about, but she knows that anakin is going to no longer be a jedi....and if he's not a jedi, and she's not a senator....what's keeping them on coruscant?
BUT it's not just obi-wan that's feeling a bit catty during that dinner party scene, so i intentionally wrote padmé as putting this idea forward as less of a possibility and more of a done deal that she knows anakin will accept -- she talks about it like it's great big BACK OFF signs picketed around anakin because obi-wan is the biggest threat to their marriage in the entire galaxy and she's always known that
(but also no anakin has not begun to process that whole thing - but padmé, who now realizes they're NOT on the same page, is absolutely going to bring it up post-haste in the next chapter)

Look at what my husband surprised me with for my birthday!
Padmé was my absolute favorite character growing up (and tbh still is to this day) so I am thrilled that he found these for me. What an awesome surprise!

tightly compressed lips bleach lilac as he peeled the bandage’s edge from inflamed skin, inspecting the healing wound splayed across his chest with a concealed wince. certainly bacta sped up the process immensely, the cooling sensation easing the ache beneath, but the injury still proved an inconvenience. footfalls sounded softly, yet his attention did not lift. there was no danger present, and if his memory had not faltered, he recognized the cadence.
presently, his suspicions were confirmed as a human woman stepped into his peripheral vision. ❝ senator. ❞ his greeting remained graveled, heavily curtailed as he dabbed cleaning solution onto the burn. measuring his words, tongue still complying with an unfamiliar language, he paused, crimson gaze lifting. ❝ apologies for my… appearance. ❞ frankly, he had thought he might have privacy in this corner of the lower level, but he could hardly begrudge her presence considering her ownership of the vessel.
luminescent eyes drift past her, the set returning to his lips. he supposed he should be grateful that the jedi had not followed her. he might fail to be cordial with one who understood a language he spoke fluently, especially the one who his ire was aimed. ❝ i presume knight skywalker is now flying the ship? ❞

after padmé’s funeral, rabé has totally changed : forget the handmaiden who grins &. soothes others’ doubts. the lady became the epitome of a hopeless wanderer, of an elusive passenger. she’s not a rebel, don’t be surprised to not recognize her usual self.
as the old wardrobe mistress &. a forlorn creative lady, rabé’ll not cease to scrutinize vader’s outfits : stygian, modest, proffering a daunting tenebrosity worth eulogizing — hm, she’ll not hesitate to advice him on how to appear less intimidating sometimes, exchanging wise philosophies like getting rid of the mask that blocks him away from real happenings, to confront worlds in all his glory whilst discarding with pride others’ foul judgements about his new appearance &. this ? unwise choice to discuss about his mandatory suit. NOBODY IN THE EMPIRE MUST RECOGNIZE THE NEW VISAGE, the result of hubris &. warning that condemns the arrogance to linger on burnt marks. yes … perhaps ridiculous to mention that a suit like his is for the better, enemies can take advantage of his physical condition ( like targeting his weakest spots &. transforms the battlefield into a show of mockery ), so she’ll apologize &. jokes around like ‘‘ what about smiling instead of this cold facial expression ?’’ excuse her, she wants to pamper him like she pampered padmé before … BUT IT DOESN’T STOP HERE : everything is new, or just drastically met alternatives that the republic would’ve liked to dodge, political ethics should be thrown away with firmness, rabé’ll encourage vader to not tolerate a mistake &. to correct insubordination, explaining that duties come before personal needs &. it’s a honor to sacrifice for hefty commitments. vader, with this hidden identity like the phantom of his own opera, coercing anyone to follow orders shall also follow the advices of the book THE PRINCE, ‘‘be machiavellian’’ to sum it up : BE FEARED, NOT LOVED, for love is a weakness, near obsession &. guides the strongest outlet to a tragedy ‘‘like all misery, it begins with apparent happiness, &. in a kingdom, there’s no friends.’’ why all above–mentioned advices are judged bad ? because the old rabé would NEVER act like this, but after manifold tries to find good distractions, a new opportunity to prosper … SHE GAVE UP ON BEING BENEVOLENT, loss &. ennui, mingled with chaos &. despair, affected her. NOT ONLY THIS, but vader might never expect to see a drastic change in the old handmaiden of his precious padmé.

Would very much like to see one of these family vacations in the cheating au. Satine talking up all the cute staff boys, Padme playing with the twins, Obi-Wan and Anakin obnoxiously flirting in the corner and Korkie desparately trying to ignore his father and uncle figure making fuck me eyes in public. God what an amazing vacation. And they took multiple??!? MULTIPLE!!
Ok so this didn’t get to the actual vacation. Mostly Obi-Wan plans an itinerary that makes sure the only time Anakin and Padmé are together is when they’re asleep because he’s petty like that. This is probably the nastiest cheating snippet yet— I don’t even like anidala and I feel bad for poor Padmé.
(1.2k)(nsfw)
It had been Obi-Wan who had suggested that they vacation together: him, his son, and Satine, and Anakin, Padmé, and the twins. The Kenobi-Kryzes own a lovely beach villa in Scarif. It would be a perfect, seasonal getaway.
Anakin had wanted to say no.
He’d wanted to say no through the planning and the packing, the letting the employers and staffers know, the arranging for Luke and Leia’s first inter-planetary travel.
He’d wanted to say no, but Obi-Wan had kept giving him reasons to say yes.
He’d been accosted at work so satisfactorily that when his boss had checked to make sure he really was going to take two weeks off in the middle of High Season, all he could muster was a glazed-eyed, breathy yeah.
Obi-Wan had done the bulk of the planning, though where he’d found the time between being the primary senator from Stewjon, head of at least five committees, fucking Anakin, probably fucking his wife as well, being a father to Korkie and a mentor to Padmé, Anakin doesn’t know.
It’d be impressive if it didn’t make him feel sick every time he thinks too much about it, which is almost constantly.
The itinerary, when Obi-Wan shows it to them over glasses of wine on Padmé and Anakin’s balcony, is obscene. If you know what to look for.
Satine obviously does, because she skims it quite quickly before leaning back in her chair. “Well,” she says with a light trill of laughter that’s too perfect and trained to be real. “It’s certainly not a couple’s vacation.”
Anakin tenses, even when he can’t help but agree with her. In all these plans and activities that Obi-Wan has drafted up, there is never one single moment where Anakin and Padmé are alone. Or, for that matter, Obi-Wan and Satine.
“Oh, I thought Ani and I could do those hot stone massagess aand the natural healing hot springs together,” Padmé says very diplomatically.
“I did read about those,” Satine replies. “Very good for married partners. Very rejuvenating.”
She takes another sip of her wine and Anakin hopes that she chokes on it.
“I suppose so,” Obi-Wan says. “Only I suppose I was hoping for a…a vacation with both our families, where we could all become closer. Padmé, you and I have gotten quite close over the years working in the Senate—” he gives her a wink and Anakin tenses.
Padmé lays her hand on his forearm in an effort to soothe him. “Now, Obi-Wan, you make it sound like we’ve been sleeping together,” she says with a laugh and a shake of her head. “We’re not,” this denial is probably for Anakin’s sake. Before—before they’d gotten married, before Obi-Wan had come into his life, Anakin had been quite possessive of Padmé’s time and attention.
Now it wasn’t the idea of her with another man that caused the flames of jealousy to start licking at his insides.
Obi-Wan seems to know it. “Darling, I would never.” Anakin relaxes, as if these words are directed to him. They probably are. “But the point still stands, I spend much more time with you and Satine than I do with Anakin. And when I do have the chance to stop by to say hello, he is always cooking dinner or fussing with fussy twins. Apart from the occasional flying lesson, I’m afraid I never properly spend time with the husband you always tell me so much about.”
“Excuse me,” Satine says. “I’m going to pour myself another glass. I’ll be right back.”
“And I doubt you spend much time with my wife either,” Obi-Wan coaxes, one hand wrapped around the stem of his wine glass, the other gently tapping the flimsi he’s printed the itinerary on.
Padmé looks considering. Anakin can’t believe Obi-Wan might just get away with planning a couples’ vacation with his paramour while both of their wives are also present.
He also can’t believe Obi-Wan’s nerve, trying to pretend that he doesn’t relish in the times he stops by the Coruscant apartments the Skywalker-Amidalas own and gets to lift one fussy twin from its crib and hold it to his chest until it falls quiet and content.
He’s fallen asleep still wearing his senatorial robes and cuddling one of Anakin’s babies more times than Anakin can count.
Once, during a flying lesson that was just a thinly veiled excuse to fuck amongst the stars, Obi-Wan had called them the twins. Not your twins. Anakin had caught the shift in phrase, how close it edged towards our twins.
“They’re not yours,” he’d muttered. “Alright?”
“Aren’t they?” Obi-Wan had responded, taking Anakin’s silence as a suggestion to flick on the auto-pilot of the ship and climb into his lap. “Only, darling, I’ve done the math, haven’t I? We’d been having our trysts for at least a month before your wife became pregnant. Who were you thinking about when you laid with her? Who were you trying to get out of your head?”
“You’re right,” Padmé finally says. “I suppose you’re right. Ani and I can take a couples vacation any time. Bail has a cabin in the Alderaan mountains, doesn’t that sound lovely for the winter, darling?”
“Yeah,” Anakin agrees, though he catches Obi-Wan’s eye when he says it. Obi-Wan’s expression is rather dark, and Anakin gets the impression the man would rather take a flame to the whole of Alderaan’s endangered forests than allow Anakin and Padmé to go on a couples vacation there.
“Perfect then,” Obi-Wan says. “I can’t imagine Anakin liking hot springs anyway. What was it you told me? Hot water itself is unnatural?”
“If I wanted to be boiled alive, I would be,” Anakin mutters. He can feel his wife turning to look at him.
“I didn’t know that,” she says. Anakin shrugs. It’d never come up.
Obi-Wan’s eyes glitter in victory, or something like it. “He only told me because I was talking about my reluctance to fly, as death by space is akin to being boiled, so I’ve heard. But I know the stress of the job, Padmé, I’ve booked a full spa day for you and my wife.”
“And what will you and Padmé’s husband get up to while we’re away?” Satine asks, sinking down in her chair and purposefully moving it closer to Obi-Wan’s. Anakin’s teeth clench. Ever since Satine found out who exactly Obi-Wan has been sneaking around to sleep with, she’s been insufferable.
“Let her have her fun, darling,” Obi-Wan had told him when he’d complained and worried that one day she’d tell Padmé about the affair. “Satine’s sense of loyalty is strange but strong. She knows that I would never forgive her should she play a part in taking you from me.”
“But they’re friends,” Anakin had protested even as he’d licked the sweat from Obi-Wan’s chest.
“Demonstrably not good ones,” his lover had pointed out. “Satine adores your wife but despises her naivety. I suppose she’s hoping this will serve as a wake up call for her. Should she find out on her own.”
Anakin hadn’t much liked that, the inevitability of the statement. But then, even the birth of his children hadn’t been enough to stop himself from falling into Obi-Wan’s bed.
“Oh,” Obi-Wan says with a wave of his hand. “We’ll come up with something.”
Padmé smiles tentatively. Her problem is that she spends half of her day fielding double speak and knife-filled smiles. Politicians never say what they really mean. They’re masters of saying twelve different things at once. It’s not that she doesn’t know this. It’s that she doesn’t think she needs to have her shields up around her closest friends, to be suspicious of the odd turn of phrase.
Her problem is that she loves them all and none of them deserve it.
Obi-Wan rests his chin on his hand. “Perhaps we can tend to the children while you and Satine are away.”
“A day’s spa trip does sound lovely,” Padmé says. “If you’re sure you wouldn’t mind. I know your Korkie is an angel, but our children are quite the hell-raisers.”
“I promise it would be no trouble at all to watch the children,” Anakin’s lover promises his wife with a glint in his eyes that practically screams our, our, our. He turns that gaze to Anakin. “Right, Anakin?”
His eyes have darkened, changed. Mine, mine, mine.
“Right,” Anakin chokes out. “Yeah, of course.”

* @melnchly — NOW, BEFORE I SAY ANYTHING, PROMISE ME YOU’LL STAY CALM ( padmé & anakin )
ANAKIN IS BUSY TUNING UP ARTOO WHEN PADMÉ COMES IN. his smile greeting her only lasts a moment, however, as her words spill out. she wears the face of a senator — of one who knows just what to say and when to say it, and one who knows they may just be stepping into a minefield. anakin doesn’t like it when she looks at him like that.
“ what’s wrong? ” he asks, blunt and to the point, setting aside his tools and standing to his feet. he ignores the promise. “ are you alright? ”

At about six months pregnant myself right now, I can’t help but think of that scene in Star Wars when Padmé shows up on Mustafar after Anakin swan-dives off the cliff of crazy and like.
There would not be tears. There would not be asking nicely or sobbing about a broken heart. Padme would waddle her nine-months-pregnant-WITH-TWINS self off that ship, grab her idiot Sith husband by the hair, and drag him into the ship, all without saying a single word that wasn’t profanity.
That woman negotiates with a blaster when she’s NOT pregnant. You think she magically got more chill once she was full of babies, couldn’t breathe, was leaking fluids from every orifice including several that didn’t formerly leak, felt like she was about the size of a gas giant, and had just discovered her husband apparently WENT CRAZY AND MURDERED CHILDREN??
I am here to tell you that I can accept aliens, and space wizards, and whatever the hell is going on with Palpatine.
But a pregnant woman tearfully hoping to talk reason into her batshit crazy space wizard husband?
No.
She would make extremely hostile eye contact, say his name through gritted teeth, and point at the ship meaningfully. Anakin, realizing that there is no hell like a very angry, very pregnant woman with a blaster, would mumble apologies, and slink onto the ship, with Padme waddling furiously behind him.
I’m having a peaceful, easy pregnancy. My husband has been adoringly getting me absolutely anything I want and is complaining frequently that I’m not asking for things enough. Even so, I have just about zero chill right now. I get irrationally outraged because the trash bags aren’t put in the bin just right. I can’t imagine the level of GET YOUR SORRY SITH ASS ON THE SHIP that I would be feeling in Padme’s shoes.

All the fics I’ve read and really enjoyed in the past week-ish. Reminder: This list features any and all ratings and themes. Please look at tags and warnings on ao3 before reading.

All Old Things are New Again by The Feels Whale (miscellea)
Full-time necromancer and part-time cam boy, Wei Wuxian, finds himself unexpectedly homeless. An enthusiastic patron comes to his rescue.

Immortal Cultivator Lan Wangji has been waiting a long time for his deceased husband to be reincarnated again. In retrospect, he should have anticipated that this is how it would go.
DC

"Oh,” Bart says with a hint of surprise in his voice. “You look so pretty.”
“I look like a girl,” he rebuts. He's not sure why he's even continuing this conversation.
Bart, blissfully unaware of Kon's internal crisis, shrugs and says, “Well, I think you'd make a lovely girl."
when I see myself, I always know where you are by suzukiblu
"There's no point in killing Superboy," Match says reasonably. "It's not like you'd care if he died."
"The Agenda thinks I wouldn't care if Superboy died?" Superman asks incredulously, just staring at him. "Why, because he's a clone?"
"Because I reported back my interactions with you when I was pretending to be him," Match corrects, puzzled by the vehemence of the response. "And also the lack thereof."
"What?" Superman says, still just staring.
Stranger Things
smoking guns (hot to the touch) by fivecenturiesverse (+ podfic)
Sure, they've saved the world, but the best part of that really is that it doesn't end there and in a town where everyone thinks he murdered a girl, he's at least got Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley. It's really not his fault he accidentally starts living at Steve's house, he was invited, after all. There's a mystery too, about Barbara Holland and Steve's pool.
“Your boner is digging into me,” says Robin, and Steve snorts a tired sort of laugh.
“I don’t have a —”
“You do, I can feel it. Gross.”
“Okay, but it’s only a little one,” he says in a small voice which sounds like he’s impersonating someone.
“Are you ever going to let that go? I peed a little bit when the Russians got the torture devices out, okay?” She sounds amused, though.
Eddie jolts. “Russian torture devices?”
Robin carries on like she didn’t hear him but Steve catches his eye and he’s grinning. “How do you even have a boner dude? You were definitely having a nightmare I know your twitching means a nightmare… Did you have a boner over Vecna?"

Iruma's Bloodline Ability by SpeedOfSnake
"Of course!” Asmodeus took the bait. “I am talking about Iruma-sama's ability to wipe the minds of his enemies.”
...Iruma had the ability to do what now?
...
Asmodeus believes Iruma has a bloodline ability, and Iruma tries to figure out why.
Star Wars
Back Where We Belong by thiswildheart
"Obi-Wan," Anakin breathed, and the dread crystallised into heartbreaking terror.
Of course. He should have known. Maybe he had known, but been too afraid to look it in the eye.
Not the kids, not Padmé, but someone as dear to him as they were. No wonder he'd been so sure his family was in danger.
(The war is over and Palpatine's gone, yet traces of his intended empire still threaten Anakin's family. Anakin will not fall again, but he's prepared to use everything the Light can offer to get his brother home.)

Extremely unpopular opinion but I know in my heart that Padmé Amidala would be awful parents to Luke and Leia. Padmé would refuse to talk to the children when they’re upset and the less said about Anakin ‘youngling slayer, hand cutter, “but the women and the children too” Skywalker the better tbh
I think it’s weird that people are convinced they would be the worlds best parents with the healthiest relationship, I’ve seen a lot of posts saying that Leia and Anakin would be super close when like.. Leia was a rebel and a feminist, in what way would Leia and fascist fanboy be bffs. I’ve seen the same that Padmé and Luke would wear matching outfits and gossip and all, but that’s not fitting with Luke’s character at all? Idk every time I see Luke in those family fics he’s infantilised to all hell - even besides that children aren’t copy’s of their parents, they have their own autonomy and personality.
Realistically Padmé and Anakin are far, far to obsessive over each other to give their children a healthy upbringing, Anakin choked Padmé (while pregnant) out of anger which makes me think abt what exactly he’d do if angry with the kids or Padmé? Like he cut off Luke’s hand, it definitely doesn’t bode well
^^Edit: looking back on this now abt Padmé being “alright with it” that wasn’t the case, sorry abt that one guys
I honestly believe that had she had lived long enough she would’ve tried to raise the children with Vader. Anakin never really seemed to care that much over the kids (I believe because it was a realisation that they couldn’t keep their affair hidden any longer and he would have to choose between being a father/husband or a Jedi) and I couldn’t imagine he’d be alright with Padmé having to give a lot of attention to the kids instead of him.
Ultimately Owen/Beru and Bail/Breha were the best options for raising the children seeing as the Jedi order was out of the question. The reason Luke and Leia turned out to be healthy, well adjusted adults is because of their respective adoptive parents (Aunt/uncle), not because of “to be angry is to be human” amidala and alderaan destroyer 2000 Skywalker
Sidenote: throughout RotS Padmé and Anakin barely even trust each other💀💀 how are 2 people who can’t trust one another supposed to raise kids cmon now
