I finished my leather mask in time for a competition. I'm participating in art crafts series, though apparently this one would have also qualified as a sculpture :D

Anyways, I did get the red base colour on it in school at Spain but I did the finishing at home, which is painting with Tintolino leather colours and attaching all the feathers I made from the extra leather that got leftover when I cut the mask out of the leather piece I used.

I don't have waxed threads in any other colours than natural tones so I used two different shades of embroidery floss and bees wax to make the thread. The tying cord is leather.

It's been made for me, with my eye and face measurements but for actual use I would need to pad the cheeks a little bit from the inside but this will likely go to the wall tbh. And since it's been stiffened with glass fibre, it would need another layer of lining anyways to make it usable. It's meant to be a decorative art piece with the way I was taught to make it. But who knows, maybe I will test out other stiffening materials on my own, later on.

So this is Okh, she is a Plague Doctor using an Owl mask. Her dream is to remove the Decay from her homeland, which is spreading sickness and death around the land. She is able to use witchcraft and create a Blight Spirit to help her manipulate the Decay.

So making a leather mask is surpringly gory looking. White gypsum head and red modeling clay is pretty gross and that's BEFORE we do the whole leatherface thing on top of it.
