the thing is. i don't particularly love the whole steph sends assassins after tim at the end of robin thing. but it is fascinating to me as one of those things that dc's like "okay, this did happen because we need it to have happened (it's pretty important as far as setting up steph and tim to move on to red robin & batgirl, it's extremely important that steph makes a mistake that causes harm so that tim is upset with her & so there's a justifiable reason steph can't be spoiler anymore & to set the stage for their dynamic in the reborn era & because her doing this to tim is also important to maintain tim's self-isolation at the start of red robin because if he had a girlfriend to depend on who he wasn't mad at he wouldn't be quite so self-destructive), but at the same time we desperately need to pretend like it did not happen (because if it did, and steph sent assassins after tim, he's entirely justified in being mad at her & also if she did that dick would probably feel about steph the way he feels about jean-paul valley)"

◘ As he pulls off his shirt, he’d look at you and put up the offer for probably the hundredth time.

◘ “Care to join me?” Followed by a “C‘mon, make my day sweetheart.” Something like that, even if he wasn’t entirely serious. 

◘ One day, you take up the offer. 

◘ When you first peel back the curtain, and step in to join him- he’s a bit startled. But it only takes a moment for that to be replaced with a grin. 

◘ He’ll say some cheesy shit like “isn’t it my lucky day?” while he wraps his arms around you. It kind of became normal, after that- your showers became shared. 

◘ Likes to be very touchy in the shower, often admiring you with a small grin. Loves to have his hands around your waist, resting in your shoulders, etc.

◘ Sometimes in the mornings, if you’re in a rush, it’s more chaotic. 

◘ Dallas reaching over you to grab the shampoo, you stepping around him to get the most water, etc. Sometimes he’ll tease you about it, making jokes about “well what’s the rush?”

◘ Around the gang, he didn’t really bring it up. He loved it, but didn’t care to go off and brag to Two or Steve about it. 

◘ They didn’t even know until he brought it up once, when the gang was teasing Steve about something with Evie. 

◘ In short, he told them they were being stupid. Two asked him if “he’d ever been that intimate with Y/n.” Dally just rolled his eyes.

◘ “me and Y/n shower together, Two, get with the program.”

◘ So yeah, pretty nonchalant, that’s how the gang found out.

◘ And he sort of likes it that way, having his own things in the relationship just meant for the two of you.

hey you guys ever think about how arcana and constantine refer to vertin with feminine terms (ex: lady vertin), how people who are on their side but who are perceived as people who “aren’t close with” vertin time and time again refer to them with “timekeeper” and they/she (ex: sonetto, madam z), and how people who look as vertin not as a leader or an ‘enigma’ (they/she, timekeeper) nor as someone they can pawn on their side (she/her, ‘lady vertin’) refer to them with masculine terms, such as ‘sir’ or ‘lord’? (ex: an—an lee, schneider)

it’s like. the less you look at them as a pawn and the more you look at them as a person the less cisgender everything gets. i should probably do a serious theory on this

for real WHERE does the idea that [utdr humans] are nongendered so that "you can project on them" come from. their literal character arcs are about NOT being a blank slate to be filled in by the audience

i think i understand the assumption on some level for undertale, because there is a very intentional effort to make you identify with the "player character" in order to make your choices feel like your own (the beating heart of undertale's metanarrative lies in giving you an alternative path to violence against its enemies after all, and whether you're still willing to persue it for your own selfish reasons. YOUR agency is crucial).

of course, the cardinal plot twist of the main ending sweeps the rug from under your feet on that in every way, and frisk's individuality becomes, in turn, a tool to further UT's OTHER main theme: completionism as a form of diegetic violence within the story. replaying the game would steal frisk's life and happy ending from them for our own perverse sentimentality, emotionally forcing our hand away from the reset button.

i think their neutrality absolutely aids in that immersion. but also, there's this weird attitude by (mostly) cis fans where it being functional within the story makes it... somehow "editable" and "up to the player" as well? which is gross and shows their ass on how they approach gender neutrality in general lol.

but also like. there's plenty of neutral, non PCharacters in undertale and deltarune. even when undertale was just an earthbound fangame and the player immersion metanarrative was completely absent, toby still described frisk as a "young, androgynous person". sometimes characters are just neutral by design. it's not that hard to understand lol.

anyone who makes this argument for kris deltarune is braindead. nothing else to say about it.

It's late when you finally make it home after a long, exhausting day. "Ken?" you called, entering the mostly dark apartment. "In here." He called back from your room. You sighed, glad that he was home, before taking off your shoes and putting your keys on the hook.

The door was cracked open and you could see faint light seeping through as you approached. You found him sitting at his computer with his headset over one ear. Not surprising. He glances at you before putting his attention back on the screen. "Hey." was all he said. You smiled softly. He never did talk very much, but you didn't mind. "Hi." you replied. He moved his hand away from his mouse to grab the bottle of water sitting to his right. As he took a sip, you leaned over and kissed his cheek. "I'm gonna take a shower."

"Okay." He set his drink back down and glanced at you one more time as you walked away from him.

He saw the bathroom door open out of his peripheral vision and it pulled his attention away from the screen for just a second. He turned his head quickly to catch another glance at you before he looked back at his game. He noticed how your hair was still slightly damp, and you were wearing one of his shirts that just barely covered past your hips. He paused his game and turned to look at you, moving his chair back a few inches. Before you walked past him, he reached his left arm out in your direction. "c'mere." he said.

You looked up from the sound of his voice. "Ken, m' tired." You mumbled, rubbing your eye with the back of your hand. "I know." He kept his arm stretched out to you and just stared, waiting for you to move closer. And after a few seconds you relented. You stepped closer to him and as soon as you were in reach, his hand held onto your waist as he pulled you into his lap. You settled yourself comfortably on his thighs and he moved his chair forward, caging you in between him and his desk. He unpaused his game and you buried your face in his neck, resting your cheek on the hood of his sweater. You felt his chest rise and fall as he took a deep breath, the smell of you shampoo filling his nose. He wasn't very good with words, but he liked when you were close to him like this.

When he'd enter a cutscene, he'd take his hand off the keyboard and rub small circles on your back, or your thigh while he listened to them talk. He wasn't surprised when he looked down to see you asleep on his shoulder, occasionally mumbling something incoherent. He smiled, and then kissed the top of your head.

A/N: I've mentioned recently that I've been in a little bit a a rut when it comes to writing 🙇🏽‍♀️ I haven't been able to find the right amount of motivation or creativity to write anything, and it's really been bugging me bc I have so many unfinished projects in my drafts that I wanna share with you guys😭 but I think this might (very much so a big maybe) have been what I needed to get me back into it. What I think is so important to learning how to truly appreciate life is learning how to appreciate the creatures and things we've categorized as "disgusting" or "gross."

When I learned to appreciate wasps, I realized how much they just... don't really care about anything, and they're not trying to be an asshole because they're uniquely cruel. If they have any wants, it is to live. Why would I punish that when I also want to live?

This isn't to say you need to fall in love with the creepy crawlies that stalk this world or to love what you cannot, but to recognize that in their arrangement of atoms, they are trying to persevere, and in the end... aren't we all?
