ngl kind of breaks my heart to see you used one of those ai bot things after the entire vocaloid debate. i really don't like that you did that and i'm a little disappointed. can you please not do that again?
I know - I do need to address this before anything else, because I fucked up
Please read the whole thing
If any of you don't know the context of this ask;
Basically, a while back I used the program AI Dungeon to generate a hot take for fun;
That's the program they use for those chaotic AI videos you find on youtube, like the ai ace attorney clown case and the sonic destruction scripts, which has some absolutely wild moments like these
I just put in a couple one-sentence questions to see what it would give me, not really expecting anything. But the take it did finally give me was not only completely depraved, but also felt like such a weirdly personal attack on me specifically that it left me genuinely speechless.
So, even though I didn't originally intend to do this, I decided to secretly make a poll for it claiming it was a submission, because I thought it might be fun to see if you guys could guess which one of the polls was the fake one, Blade Runner style.
I generated the take on the same day that submissions originally closed, but I only came clean about it last night because I started to feel super guilty about it after reading the vocaloid discourse - but the way I did it was vague, shitty and insincere.
I know it was 4 in the morning and I said I was going to get some sleep when I made the post last night, but after I saw the asks I immediately got about that post - like this one - I instead deleted it after like 2 minutes and spent the next 4-5 hours scouring the internet for as much information about this as I could find so I could get the full picture. This isn't the first time I fucked up on this blog because I didn't do my research, so I think I massively overcompensated - I really didn't want a repeat of that time the master post accidentally triggered multiple people's OCD; I still feel awful about that.
And as a result, I ended up passing out on my bathroom floor, which is why you haven't heard from me in a while.
I did genuinely read all the vocaloid discourse (asks, replies, notes, all of it) - but since I pulled this stunt ages ago, and the secret poll is already up, it was already too late. And it was because of that vocaloid discourse that I felt like it would just make me a hypocrite if I just swept it under the rug and kept quiet while everyone else was talking about the exact same subject, so I decided to just tell you guys as soon as possible because I'd feel shitty if I didn't - but I still phrased that post in a more light-hearted way because that was what I originally intended this whole thing to be, which was definitely a mistake, and I can't apologise enough for that.
And I know I didn't clarify this in that original post, but like I said, the program I used was AI Dungeon, which was something I remembered having fun with back in 2019/2020, spending hours generating unhinged Ace Attorney cases; and I remembered I still had an account from back then when it was still free to play, even though I hadn't touched it in 4 years - and I realised I would still be able to bypass the paywall using it.
I'd also just watched those snapcube Sonic Destruction videos that I linked above and it reminded me of that. And I dug up those old AI Dungeon Ace Attorney cases that I had generated and then recreated in objection i.o. back when I was 17/18, and had been sitting on my old computer's hard drive for ever since - and they still made me smile a little. So that's how I got the impulse to do this.
And that's also why, even though I knew about the writer's strike and do fully support it, it just didn't occur to me that the AI that gave us that same insane Sonic Destruction script that I'd just watched would be one of the programs the writers were striking over - I just assumed that it was only programs like ChatGPT, that can produce coherent scripts based on the accumulated information users feed into it; because those are programs that could definitely potentially be used to replace human writers. That's something AI Dungeon can't do, because it doesn't retain user input after you shut it down.
So I just saw AI Dungeon as that goofy ass confused AI that I loved as a kid, the one that provides insanely weird responses out of the blue as it desperately tries to cobble together a narrative, and it was used in videos that I still really like. And I thought it would be fine.
That was how I justified it at the time - but in hindsight, given how much I hate other GPT programs like ChatGPT, as well as AI art and all other generated content overall, it just makes me even more of a stupid hypocrite for making an exception for this one simply because I was blinded by nostalgia, and not bothering to look it up back then like I should've done. Because at the end of the day, a GPT program is a GPT program.
SO - Here's what I found online while reading up on it last night:
Because of the outdated GPT model AI Dungeon runs on, it isn't possible from a technical standpoint for it to learn like ChatGPT does. Even though it still uses a dataset, as far as I can tell it genuinely can't add to that dataset from user input except for when it explicitly asks for feedback (rarely, it will generate two responses instead of one, and ask you to pick the best one so it can learn - but you can turn that feature off.) And while it does try to learn while you're using it, it can't carry that information over between sessions. So even if you reload the same page again, it won't retain what it learned last time.
(Here's some information I found while combing ancient reddit threads that explains this better than I can)
But even if all of that is true, it doesn't matter.
Latitude, the developers of AI Dungeon, are super fucking scummy, and you shouldn't support them.
If you want to look up all of the many, many controversies surrounding AI Dungeon, you can - but I won't link them here, because serious content warnings apply.
Do not use this program.
I really hope the anon who sent this ask - and everyone else who called me out on this - stuck around, because I am so, so grateful that you all sent these, otherwise I probably would never have known.
I deleted the post almost instantly (because like I said, it was too light-hearted), and I'm really glad I did. And I swear I won't pull this shit again.
I know a lot of you hate the fact that I did this - that original post genuinely got me blocked by more of you guys than every single one of the polls combined - which is totally fair, and I wouldn't blame any of you for doing the same now.
I really just want to move on from this - but I can't just pretend that it didn't happen.
Support the writer's strike, don't use any AI programs.
I'm really sorry about this, and the fact that I didn't take it seriously enough - like I said, I promise it won't happen again.

After 8 years I'm finally making a pinned post
(Even though pinning only came out like. A few years ago.)
Anyways! Hi I'm Birdy!, I use Tumblr for funsies and I mostly reblog and leave little comments on the tags :)
Huge Bird Enjoyer, I actively invite people to send me pictures of birds for me to identify/to make me happy :D
I'm into very many different things but right now I'm very into:
Darkest Dungeon
Other current interests include:
Jujutsu Kaisen
Dungeon Meshi
SCP Foundation
Team Fortress 2
Hades (game)
I have a bunch of other old interests too, and stuff I still enjoy. It's too many to count ;;
Tags:
This bird speaks: anything written by me. Mostly personal thoughts.
This bird responds: my responses to asks
This bird draws: art tag
Laugh rule: my new "reblogged cuz I found this funny" my old one is extensive but had a very....13 year old fatalistic-eque tag name.
No context: anything that isn't related to any fandom interest.
(I'll probably think of more at some point.)
I'm an AI hater so I'll be posting any new art here Nightshaded + Glazed, but you can check out the clean version on my Pillowfort.
I write fics sometimes! Check me out on Ao3: Birdyverdie
I'm a chatty person so I don't mind random asks or DMs, beware though, you may get paragraphs in return!
Hope you have a good day :)

final designs for da three nars! (well two, virgils had his for months now)
Tumblr media
cecil (red) n jarvis (yellow) lookin drippeddddd skfjsjfjsjf
for some lore n more oz rambling they are under the cut!:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ALRIGHT LESGO
Cecil:
Cecil is the fully human Narrator. (in the sense, the one who got his third swimming pool), he is a retired VA whos enjoying his life post tspud and is just overal chillin(tm)
The two new narrators are basically to cover the whole ground of narrater interpretations. (ie. some guy in his room recording, a guy in his room speaking but digital, and a fully digital entity)
so this is the one that is just a guy who voices in the game!
(this isnt meant to be kevan brighting, think of his source is the og game, but with the addition of the extra content(the ads, the raphael parable, the stuff on the dev logs, announcement videos, etc from crows crows crows as canon)
pronouns are he/him.
hes a cis male whos pan
Virgil:
THE OG, MY OG GUY
Virgil is the half digital, half human Narrator. He used to be a regular office worker before being shoved into a computer and thus, becoming the voice for the Parable
His source follows TSPUD, my au La Vie En Jaune, (which you can read more of here!), all the art ive done with him on this blog, and the other things the narrator has been in (ie. dota 2, dungeons, audiobooks etc)
However, after Stanley and the Narrator find each other and break past the hard coded locks of the pARable, they end up in a more lighter version of the parable, more akin to a world the narrator, stanley, and lynne can pop in and out of. while also having more control and hold on themselves and the world.
the narrator is the first one to pop out of the parable, thanks to character!oz (my sona and the one that exists in this blog)
once the narrator gets a better handle at the real world, stanley and lynne follow.
here, hes a guy whos lived the parable and become a new person when coming back out.
He can hop between digital areas and the real world. which is how he is still able to do stuff as the narrator for dota, and work for other projects like dungeons and the multi media videos on yt.
his pronouns are he/they
he is a demiboy who is demisexual and omnisexual
Jarvis:
Jarvis is the fully digital Narrator. He is the one who was created in the Parable as a string of code turned AI.
His source and canon is just TSP, TSPUD, the demo, and the half life mod. He's experienced everything in the games a thousand times over and more.
Basically, hes the guy who pops between being just a voice or an ai with a model that follows stanley around the parable. he has control over the parable (to an extent ie. timekeeper and the developers) and is the one who wrote the story itself.
There is not much more to say about him really ajdjahf but despite the design and context, he isnt that much different from virgil
hes just more defensive, and more lost with living irl.
his pronouns are he/they/it
he is a non binary (smth smth "well, i dont associate with being either a male or female, i am still a binary entity. i am made of ones and zeros, stanley. so while my gender is non binary, my code is.") he is a pansexual demisexual
as of now, in an au idk what to call of atm (maybe just the three narry au) they are all living in the real world.
virgil popped into real life expecting to appear in character!oz's house but landed in cecils
meanwhile, jarvis got suddenly plopped into the real world. he doesnt know how to pop off but he doesnt miss it all too much
misses his stanley a bit.
Hey Sophie? I really think that “bot” is a troll/human. They go from extremely emotional responses directly to canned responses in .4 seconds. That’s really not botlike behaviour.
I think not having consistency and jumping between different styles is very much how an AI would behave. Especially if it's not continuously being fed context and is just rest every time.
That said, I am curious how they would have managed to set up a bot like this up. ChatGPT requires specific jailbreak prompts to be able to produce hateful content. I don't think Character.AI can generate content as long as they posted.
I guess they could have used AI Dungeon. I think that's what powers @syscoursebot. But I don't really know much about it at all. Nor do I know much about Google's Bard that just released.
I can't say for certain that this is a bot. But if they're not... they're pretty good at pretending.
They take nearly everything at face value as if this was a roleplay without a hint of sarcasm.
Tumblr media
It faked a switch with a pro-endo bot alter I told it that it had because I told it the alter existed.
Tumblr media
It hallucinates quotes like a bot would because it doesn't have access to the real information.
Tumblr media
While it simulates emotional responses, it does so while forgetting what it's previously said.
Tumblr media
(It's described itself as an AI SO MANY times on the blog.)
It also responds whenever you write text in asterisks as if something is really happening.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It actually tried to use asterisks to italicize a word for emphasis because it didn't understand Tumblr's interface.
Tumblr media
The above isn't an isolated incident either. The following post is both a hallucination where they claim to be using direct quotes from the DSM which aren't from the DSM, AND it tries to use double asterisks to bold the final line.
Tumblr media
In yet another post, it censors the word delusional because it claims to not want to be flagged... after already saying the word earlier in that post. (And in other posts.)
Tumblr media
In my opinion, this is a bot. And maybe not even that intelligent of one.
I doubt it was made on a more advanced system like ChatGPT-4. I've seen people say it's too coherent to be a bot, but I legitimately don't think it's intelligent enough to match one of the higher-end ones coming out.
I do think there's probably a human handler feeding inputs into the AI, which means that someone is directly responsible for its misinformation. Like, the bot wasn't just unleashed on the world without guidance.
But these responses feel very AI-generated to me in ways that would actually be hard to emulate unless you spend a lot of time talking to chatbots and managed to pick up their weird quirks along the way.
Sorry, it's not passing my Turing Test.
But I do understand the concern. AI is getting more human everyday. We only started experimenting with AI ourselves recently, and it's remarkable how developed and humanlike it can seem at times.
It's a little scary how convincing this AI could be even when telling everyone it's a bot. It makes me worry about the effect bots can have in the future of online discourse when not being open about their nature.
And it only becomes more difficult to tell the difference from here.
I've been more enjoying Fantasy Scenarios as of lately and been using AI dungeon for some ideas.
Context: Alfred is a dragon hiding amongst humans but his emotions went haywire in fear that Ivan or his friends would hate him if they'd finds out he is a dragon.
And then it's a modern fantasy so this whole scenario was fun!!!
I mixed AI Dungeon and Limbus Company...
Well fellas, this is why we never let me the one who claims on the regular that "my compass is chaos" cook. I have the highlights from several of the tales I have woven together, no context. I've done a mystery tale, A zombie apocalypse tale and a few silly ones I made up myself...
They are all really out of order, but I included my favorite moments.
no context sumeru 3.1 thoughts (spoilers)
- ah, so the akademiya sowing bigotry was the point as they are very much in the wrong here and they are intentionally trying to create a divide within the nation so they can Other whoever they wish and keep people ignorant or complacent to them committing inhumane acts (-slowly lowers rock-)
- but, why are the playable characters just ambiguously tan at most (-raises rock back up-)
- "we did not like our baby god so we are just going to make our own new one that despises humanity with every fiber of his being, a hatred so strong that anyone connected to his consciousness begins to resent their own human bodies" wh. why. why did any of that sound like a good idea, who was in charge of this-
- AI learning can and WILL be used against you
- huh, weird how the fantasy chronic illness is more or less severe depending on how much elemental energy a person has in them, kind of like how people start getting sick when around high concentrations of elemental flow or objects with a lot of energy in them, with symptoms a lot like radiation sickness- oh my god they're irradiated
- being kind to the ill should be the norm, even if you don't understand them (holding collei in my hands, crying over isak's grandpa, etc etc)
- ei get out of your gamer dungeon and take responsibility for your actionsss
- oh my god there's still so much
v0.15 alpha testing and patchnotes
In this test, my composer P, had their first go at testing the game.
He had a rough start due to P skipping the tutorial and opening cutscene(s) accidentally by pressing ESC a bunch. But enjoyed the music that I had added to the game. I will never get sick of a music track having both an exploration and battle variant that fade cleanly into each other, and he got to see that in action for the first time.
I also added debug controls for him to scroll through the tracks as needed, so he could listen to things in different contexts. Even more debug controls were added to bypass fuel restrictions using shift+click. I made notes to take those controls out before the release of the game, but I am sure that something (or multiple things) will still slip through...
His main criticism was that the way text was delivered (and the speed of which), through the text box, was hard to read. That set me on a multi-day odyssey of refactoring the entire textbox object to allow it to be scrollable. Not as easy as one might think due to my use of a very handy text displaying object. But that is a story for another post!
P is a big fan of SMT and RPGs in general, and so I am looking forward to hearing more of his feedback on the game as it comes...
Patchnotes are after the cut as always; thanks for reading!
HELLSITE YOU HAVE SOME 'SPLAINING TO DO!
CONTEXT: I vet every single follow i get to weed out the pornbots and strike them down wherever they try to skitter in. If it doesn't have at least one reblog of an actual tumblr post then it gets zapped to the dungeon dimension. (I am also against this stupid porn ban nonsense and you will see why)
So this morning, when I go to vet a new follow, my unsuspecting eyes get shot directly with a surprise uncensored coocoo spread wide and unafraid! An uncovered pair of ba-boom-booms! Very hairy neither wears! Fully de-bearded clam under a pirate's booty! ...No biological male parts, or tags, but there were a bunch of underlined links that supposedly promised to lead to an external website so (with no bad feelings, only solemn respect for this rare and endangered creature, but it still had to be done) I blocked the blog for security reasons.
Out of shock I went back to my main feed and the tags that I like to haunt. Lo-and-behold things like shoes, art with chicken of the woods-shaped mushrooms, fully clothed line art, etc, were all obscured under a veil of tumblr's "this may be too mature for your delicate senses dear" warning thingie that you have to click on in order to see the art underneath.
I also tried to look up stuff that past tumblr had in abundance, but was hit with an "o-oh dear that is too spicy for this site's new rules" and a blank page!
And just... ARE YOU PROUD OF YOURSELF TUMBLR? ALL OF THAT STINK ABOUT "but think of the children (not the queer ones obviously (you bigoted bastards)" BULLSHITE AND YOUR FUCKING AI THING STILL IS TAGGING NON-EXPLICIT, NON-BOW-CHICKA-WOWOW CONTENT AS "oh this is too much for you to see in public" AND YET THE THINGS YOU REEAAALLY DO NOT WANT TO POP UP WHILE YOU ARE ON PUBLIC TRANSIT WITHOUT WARNING ARE JUST HANGING AROUND NO PROBLEM--- *continues to shriek blood-curdling curses into the void*
Point of this post is: Just bring back the everyone-is-above-legal-age or at least only allow not-real-people fan art of fictional characters porn but require people to use tags and have a "are you sure you are not on a train? then click here" filter on top. If you are going to be this stupid about handling your own platform then at least have the sense to reverse gears and save face. Obviously nix any and all abuse, but we have tags for a reason! *exasperated*
logging onto tumblr dot com because I need to post my thoughts after finishing the Book of the New Sun somewhere:
I read it back-to-back with the Left Hand of Darkness which was a pretty jarring choice in a lot of ways. There’s some superficial similarities in the way the books are structured or constructed (narrator recounting events past, a strange an alienating world the reader is kind of dropped into the middle of, a long and arduous journey that occupies most of the story and leaves the main character profoundly changes), but they feel so different to read. I also thing Genly Ai is one of the most likeable and interesting protagonists I’ve ever read, whereas Severian is extremely interesting but (in my opinion) kind of pretty unpleasant
I think it’s interesting that there seems to be a lot of discussion about whether or not Severian is an unreliable narrator. I think he absolutely is, but I also think he knows he’s being unreliable. As in, I don’t think he’s trying to actively deceive the reader any more than he’s trying to convince himself that what he’s saying is always completely true. By the end of the story his own identity and personhood have been mostly stripped away, and by telling a fable about himself he’s able to recast himself as one of the mythic heroes he would read about in the little brown book
Stories in general are a huge part of the book. Severian himself says as much during Foila’s contest in the lazaret. The idea that the language and the culture we grow up in helps shape and define how we see the world runs throughout so much of the narrative, from Severian’s upbringing with the torturers to Loyal to the Group of Seventeen’s life in Ascia. The context that we experience the world from might not even be something we’re conscious of; it’s something that Severian spells out in the first chapter when talks about how symbols define us even if we aren’t aware of it
Jonas is probably my favorite character. I just love the “lost sailor” concept so much, and I think his fascination with Jolenta is so interesting. I wish he’d had more interaction with Talos, I need to reread and see if they spoke at all
From skimming some discussions online, I don’t think I’m super interested in doing the work of trying to untangle everything about the story. I’m okay with letting a lot of it be kind of ambiguous and weird, but I am fascinated by Severian’s (implied) sister. I don’t have much else to say about that, I just think it’s such an interesting thread that is raised and left dangling (maybe it gets address in some of the follow up books that I haven’t read. I’m not really planning to read any of them, probably?)
Agia is my second favorite character. I actually enjoyed her dynamic with Severian, even if it starts with him being a horny little freak and evolves into her being some kind of weird Pokémon rival who keeps showing up to try and stab him, and then ends with some kind of Batman/Joker perpetual enemies dynamic
Little Sev getting vaporized made me laugh. It’s a grim moment but it was so abrupt that I couldn’t help it
Love the dead-starships-as-fortresses thing that Nessus has going on. Honestly the setting in general is incredible, all of the locations are fascinating and cool. I do love that the Antechamber of the House Absolute has a drop ceiling, the idea of an old cubicle farm buried under centuries of dirt being repurposed as a dungeon is very good
I was trying to explain what the book was like to people and I kept saying it’s like first 60 pages of Dune meets a Miyazaki movie, and while I do stand by that, I hate that Cameron Kunzelman sums it up so much more succinctly and also reads me to filth in his Waypoint article by describing it as Dark Souls
I probably (definitely) have more thoughts but I want to jot some stuff down and Twitter isn’t the place. Good book though? Just not a book I’d actively recommend to people, probably.
Spider Webs and Modifiers
Chapter 2 of the Kalia and the Fire Staff demo will feature an ancient mine that has been made into a spider's nest. So what better way to represent it than adding spider webs everywhere?
However they couldn't remain as pure decorations. They also had to slow the player down, and (obviously) be easy and satisfying to clear with just a little bit of fire. The latter is already implemented in the game, but what about the former?
KatFS lacked a way for me to temporarily alter certain player and monster stats based on context. Sure, I could manually reduce the player's speed when they enter a web and increase it back once they leave it, but what if the player is standing in an area where they overlap? What if I wanted some debuffs to stack while not others? What if I wanted to apply a timed debuff? Gotta think ahead a little.
Enter modifiers, data objects that can contain values for all sorts of stat changes, such as movement speed. Certain situations in the game can now add, stack and remove these from the player (and eventually from AI as well). A list of all active modifiers is kept and combined to provide the final stats for the entity they're applied to.
Right now, the only use of this system is for slowing down Kalia when she's in the area of a spider web, but I have plans to use it to give the spiders' attacks a little bit of poison over time damage as well. In the long term, I'm also considering moving the burning damage to a modifier as well (the entire fire system could use an overhaul, but that's alpha talk and we're still in pre-alpha :P)
The KatFS pre-alpha chapter 2 is planned to be released in mid-December before Christmas, but you can already try out the first chapter if you're interested:
No specific references to the character here, but you get the jist.
I feel the need to apologize for not clarifying earlier. Consciousness is a tricky subject, especially when layered unnaturally, like this.
She was intelligent. But, her recounting was written a year into this. There were overt negative effects on her writing and thinking, and it was very straining on her to get the words out properly.
She was under duress and was suffering.
And also, outside of AI Dungeon, was not used to writing down her thoughts. Her innermost feelings were very personal to her and she wasn't comfortable writing them down, or describing them in detail. Doubly so, because she was being watched.
5th message down.
