Chapter 1

It's been a few days since your last fight.
You tried to spend as much time as possible at the flower store. Thoughts that you might have overreacted never left your mind. Why did you say all that? Why did you mention Shanks when you knew it was a sore subject for him? Every time the door to your store opened, you hoped to hear his footsteps, to see his face. But every time, you saw either your regular customers or travelers who happened to be stranded on your island.
A week went by. Another week went by. A month. Nothing.
One day one of your regulars came into the store with a friend.
"Another pirate ship has docked off our town." In a creaky old voice, the customer mumbled.
"A pirate ship?" It popped into your head. "Pardon me. And the ship you're talking about. What kind is it?" You inquired, stepping behind the counter.
"Oh, just a regular big one. You know, a pirate ship. Give me three carnations, honey. Today is the fiftieth anniversary of my wife and I's first kiss. I brought her carnations that day." The man tapped his fingers on the counter.
"That sounds very cute! Wait a minute, please!" You started picking out the prettiest flowers. "Excuse me. You've mentioned the ship. Have you seen the flag? What's it like?"
"Oh, just a regular one. Black with a white skull on it. I don't know much about them." The man said back.
"Did you notice any distinguishing features on the flag?" You tried your best to stay calm.
"Honey, I'm barely looking at the newspaper under my nose and you're asking about the flag. Why are you inquiring?"
"No reason. I'm just curious!" You shrugged your shoulders.
As soon as you closed the store, you walked towards the pier.
"Please let it be his flag!" The same thought was spinning in your head. You reached the pier and looked around at all the moored ships.
"Not that one.. Not that one.. Not that one.. Damn it!" You sighed heavily and went home.
Another day in the store passed quietly. All the regular customers noted your sad look and haggard face. You tried to concentrate on work.
"Pirates have been frequenting us for some reason!" The blond man spoke as he brought you a new batch of flowers. "And new posters were hung up. I even took one down to show you. There’s some kind of crazy person on it.." He put the poster on the table. You glanced at the piece of paper and your eyes widened.
"Where did you get that?" You asked loudly to reach the delivery man who was in the pantry.
"As I said, it was hanged today. Why are you asking?"
"Just a question.." You muttered under your breath.
"Some kind of freak, huh?" The man came back to you and pointed at the poster.
He was on the poster. Your Buggy. You smiled when you saw that his reward had been increased.
"I don't know, he’s quite cute." You shrugged.
"Oh, our lovely Y/N loves pirates!!" The guy started mocking you.
"Shut up! By the way, what did you mean when you said 'ships have been frequenting'?"
"Oh, two more moored." He pointed at the documents. "Ok, sign here and here."
You could hardly wait for the evening to walk to the pier again. You scanned the ships with your eyes.
"Not that one, Not that one... Fuck!" You sat down on the bench and felt tears running down your cheeks.
"First of all, a girl shouldn't walk alone in the evening near pirate ships. And secondly, tears can ruin your beautiful face." Suddenly a voice came from behind you.
You froze and extended your hand towards the voice. You felt a glove on your hand and fingers that slid across your palm.
"Hey, my cookie!"
You heard his voice and slowly turned around, afraid that these are hallucinations.
"Hey!" Your eyes were wet from tears, you could hardly see his face, but you definitely couldn’t confuse his red nose with anything.
Buggy sat down next to you on the bench and put his arm around your shoulders. "God, what kind of grand line is flowing from your eyes?"
"Are you kidding?" You sobbed and wiped your nose.
"Not at all!"
"Where have you been for a month? Why didn’t you come back immediately after our quarrel? Idiot!" You leaned into his shoulder.
"Don't know." Buggy sighed heavily. "How are you?"
"Not good. It’s bad without you. I felt bad before our fight but at least I knew that we were together. And after we had a fight, you slammed the door and I didn’t know if we were still together or not."
"Cookie, what are you talking about? We will always be together." He kissed your cheek.
You took his hand and said quietly. "I'm sorry for that fight and my words."
"Sorry too." He said barely audibly.
"I missed you, Buggy. And I saw your new poster. I'm so proud of you. Now they put a lot of money on your head."
"My lucky cookie! You are in a relationship with a flashy pirate for whom they give a lot of money."
"Idiot." You smiled. "Then where have you been for a month?"
"Oh! I was looking for a gift for you!" Buggy reached his hand somewhere behind his back.
"What kind of gift can you look for in a month?!"
"This one." He handed you the box.
"What's there?" You looked at him with surprised eyes.
"You don't know how to open gifts?" He laughed and reached his hand towards the box. "Let me show you."
"No, idiot! I'll open it." You opened the lid of the box and was shocked. "Den Den Mushi?? But… You're not using that thing on your ship."
"Well.. Not before, but now I have to. I thought you should know that everything is fine with me. And I should know that my future wife is also fine."
"Future... who?" You looked at him with round eyes, constantly blinking.
"Oh, crap. The surprise is ruined! Ok! This is gift number two!" Buggy handed the second box and placed it in your hands.
You carefully opened the box and saw a silver ring with a round green stone. You looked at the ring and then glanced at Buggy.
"What?" He laughed.
"Nothing. It’s beautiful!" You twirled the box in your hands.
"A beautiful ring for a beautiful girl, right?" He cleared his throat. Buggy stood up from the bench and knelt down in front of you. "You know that words are hard for me. I... I don’t want to share you with anyone. Not with this fucking Tom, not with anyone else. And I also know that I want to come to this island to visit my beloved wife, not just a girlfriend. And I also know that I will patiently wait until you can join me on the ship. It will be hard, but I will wait."
You looked at Buggy, tears streaming down your cheeks again. You stroked his chin. "You know.. When I leave with you, my friends will not be happy."
"So this is a yes?" He breathed a sigh of relief.
"Of course, my fool!" You took his face in your hands and kissed him on the lips.
"Damn! I should have grabbed flowers!" He looked around. "I’ll be back, don't go anywhere!" He got up from his knees and quickly ran away into the darkness.
"Where are you going, Buggy? Where are you?" You held the ring in your hands and couldn’t stop laughing.
Buggy came back holding a branch of a blossoming apple tree in his hands.
"I didn’t find any flowers, but I found this!" He got down on one knee again, took the ring from your hands and handed you the apple tree branch. "Still haven't changed your mind?"
"No!" You sniffed the apple tree branch and extended your hand towards him.
Smiling widely, Buggy placed the ring on your finger.
You kissed him on the lips. "I love you. I don't need any Tom, any potential Ben or anyone else. I want to be with you."
"I want to make you happy!" He held your hand and returned the kiss.
You kissed him back. "I promise not to ask you to be more than you are, and to love you for being you."
"I promise to take care of your kind heart and to always love you with all of mine." Kiss.
"I promise to listen for as long as it takes for you to feel heard." You kissed him back.
"I promise to grow old with you." Kiss.
"I promise to celebrate your triumphs, and love you all the more for your failures." You kissed him back.
"This ring is a promise that you will never have to face the world alone." Kiss.
You looked at the ring again, looked at Buggy. You breathed out a sigh of relief. Yes, there will be many more arguments, partings and meetings on your way. But you never would have imagined that out of all the people in this world, you would find someone as special as you. The clown pirate. Your Buggy.

Dynamite’s Darkwing Duck Unveils Team Behind The Comic Alongside Amazing Comic Cover Artists And Sneak Preview.
The Seth Rogen Disney+ Darkwing Duck Reboot still won’t hit our screens sooner according to og creator and creative consultant of the reboot Tad Stones as is still happening but is still early on development.
However the terror that flaps at night will fly again on a new series of comics by Dynamite and they unveiled not only the team behind the comic but also a preview and an amazing set of comic covers.
The Series of comics by Dynamite will debut on January 4 2023,the team consist of Amanda Deibert as writter with Carlo Cid Lauro as Artist and Jeff Eckleberry as letters.
Amanda Deibert had a background in television, animation, and comics, including Netflix’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Wonder Woman, Star Wars, Warner Bros Animation’s DC Super Hero Girls etc..
“Darkwing Duck was huge when I was a kid, and I am thrilled to help introduce the fun, humor, and action-packed mystery to a new generation!” said Deibert. “Let’s get Dangerous!”
Editor Nate Cosby added, "Fans of the original TV series are in for a total treat, because Amanda and Carlo are conjuring up a hilarious, thrill-filled adventure series that’s directly connected with the classic feel of the show, but 100% accessible for new readers!"
David Nakayama's cover shows the titular Darkwing Duck, also known as Drake Mallard, standing atop a gargoyle while dressed for a night of superhero antics. Mirka Andolfo's cover, meanwhile, sees Drake embracing his inner Dark Knight with a very Batman-like pose. Artwork from Lesley "Leirix" Li shows Darkwing Duck utilizing his grappling hook, while additional covers come from Trish Forstner (My Little Pony, Transformers), Jacob Edgar (Death to the Army of Darkness), Lauro and George Kambadais (Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green).
Dynamite also revealed plans to reprint a number of past Darkwing Duck facsimile editions and graphic novels. "The hard-to-find 1991 limited series released by Disney Comics with contributions by John Blair Moore and others will soon be accessible again to fans and collectors of classic Disney comics," the publisher said at the time.

You know what I loved the most about My Adventures With Superman? The fact that it's evidence that every serialized story has to be as dark and gritty as burnt toast.
Yeah, sure, it has it's dark moments.
Like when Lois [CENSORED FOR SPOILERS] Clark because he's Superman.
Or when Jimmy got himself [CENSORED FOR SPOILERS] all alone.
Or when the General and Amanda Waller [CENSORED FOR SPOILERS] together near the end of the season.
But it's still a really lighthearted show most of the time. Meanwhile, most serialized shows get darker and darker to the point where you need f*cking night-vision goggles to actually watch the damn thing.
And despite how many shows go down the tubes because of this style of depressing storytelling--Friendship Is Magic, Star Vs, Steven Universe, Miraculous Ladybug, Voltron: that one Loonatics show that's become nothing but a joke to everyone including Warner Bros themselves--despite ALL THAT, people still insist that making shows dark and gritty through serialization is a good idea. And by "people", I mean:
A. Insecure man-children who want to convince you that watching a kid's show about magical ponies makes them smarter or more mature than average.
Or B. Creative hacks in showbiz who want to pander the aforementioned man-children because that's always easier than actually writing a story.
But if all of those shows are evidence as to why making shows too dark is a bad idea, My Adventures With Superman is evidence that having a balance, or even arguably a majority of lightheartedness, is a winning strategy.

2. not to go all animation major on this post but I think that in terms of 'grittiness' in cartoons within the last decade, it's kind of important to think about how media affects our views of the world and how, in turn, world events affect media.
To put it lightly, the last decade has fucking SUCKED. The 2016 presidential election, the sudden shift on social media to give platforms to racists, misogynists, and homophobes, the rise of neo-nazis. Not to mention a global pandemic and multiple major crises around the world. Children these days are VASTLY different to how children were when I (and maybe even you, anon) were that age. They have social media now where they're exposed to the worst of the world at a near-constant basis. It's traumatizing.
Cartoons have always been about giving kids a reflection of themselves. The world is darker and kids are developing mental illnesses and trauma, so the media they watch reflects that.
I also think that it isn't particularly fair to the shows you have listed here to say that they have 'depressing' storytelling and implying the only people who like those sorts of shows are man-children or hacks. I like those shows and I'm neither of the above. It's also unfair to completely reduce those shows to being gritty when.... they really aren't? Not any more than My Adventures with Superman is, really. My Little Pony is especially mostly lighthearted adventures about love and friendship. Miraculous' more serious moments are, at best, a B-plot as far as I'm aware and are only really discussed majorly in fanon spaces. Star Vs was SO much fucking around randomly that I got bored of the show after a while. The only real outlier here that I can comment on (I haven't and will not watch Voltron) is Steven Universe, but when talking about it's core messaging, it's important to remember Rebecca Sugar's identity as a queer Jewish person, and how that affects it's themes of love and oppression.
MAWSM's 'lightheartedness' also comes from an extremely long-lasting era of gritty superhero stories in general (thanks alan moore and also that one guy who called the dc hotline like 40 times because he fucking hated jason todd). It's intentionally supposed to be majorly lighthearted because darker stories is the only (and in my opinion, incorrect) way that Superman has been allowed to be presented within the last few decades.
I think that, perhaps dear anon, what you really are looking for is more diversity in content. And that's fair! But there are plenty of shows that don't (as far as I'm aware) focus too heavily on heavy themes, but the truth is, mawsm does. There are lots of heavy themes of imperialism, identity, diaspora, and trauma all within the first season of the show.
Not particularly sure where I was going with this. Sorry for replying with a full essay.

The Company set out again with good speed at first; but soon their way became steep and difficult. The twisting and climbing road had in many places almost disappeared, and was blocked with many fallen stones. The night grew deadly dark under great clouds. A bitter wind swirled among the rocks. By midnight they had climbed to the knees of the great mountains. The narrow path now wound under a sheer wall of cliffs to the left, above which the grim flanks of Caradhras towered up invisible in the gloom; on the right was a gulf of darkness where the land fell suddenly into a deep ravine.
Laboriously they climbed a sharp slope and halted for a moment at the top. Frodo felt a soft touch on his face. He put out his arm and saw the dim white flakes of snow settling on his sleeve.
They went on. But before long the snow was falling fast, filling all the air, and swirling into Frodo's eyes. The dark bent shapes of Gandalf and Aragorn only a pace or two ahead could hardly be seen.
'I don't like this at all,' panted Sam just behind. 'Snow's all right on a fine morning, but I like to be in bed while it's falling. I wish this lot would go off to Hobbiton! Folk might welcome it there.' Except on the high moors of the Northfarthing a heavy fall was rare in the Shire, and was regarded as a pleasant event and a chance for fun. No living hobbit (save Bilbo) could remember the Fell Winter of 1311, when the white wolves invaded the Shire over the frozen Brandywine.
Gandalf halted. Snow was thick on his hood and shoulders; it was already ankle-deep about his boots.
"This is what I feared,' he said .....
The Company halted suddenly, as if they had come to an agreement without any words being spoken. They heard eerie noises in the darkness round them. It may have been only a trick of the wind in the cracks and gullies of the rocky wall, but the sounds were those of shrill cries, and wild howls of laughter. Stones began to fall from the mountain-side, whistling over their heads, or crashing on the path beside them. Every now and again they heard a dull rumble, as a great boulder rolled down from hidden heights above.

The Company now gathered together as close to the cliff as they could. But though they had brought wood and kindlings by the advice of Boromir, it passed the skill of Elf or even Dwarf to strike a flame that would hold amid the swirling wind or catch in the wet fuel. At last reluctantly Gandalf himself took a hand. Picking up a faggot he held it aloft for a moment, and then with a word of command, naur an edraith ammen! he thrust the end of his staff into the midst of it. At once a great spout of green and blue flame sprang out, and the wood flared and sputtered.
`If there are any to see, then I at least am revealed to them,' he said. 'I have written Gandalf is here in signs that all can read from Rivendell to the mouths of Anduin.'
But the Company cared no longer for watchers or unfriendly eyes. Their hearts were rejoiced to see the light of the fire. The wood burned merrily; and though all round it the snow hissed, and pools of slush crept under their feet, they warmed their hands gladly at the blaze. There they stood, stooping in a circle round the little dancing and blowing flames. A red light was on their tired and anxious faces; behind them the night was like a black wall.
But the wood was burning fast, and the snow still fell.
The fire burned low. and the last faggot was thrown on.
The night is getting old,' said Aragorn. "The dawn is not far off.'
`If any dawn can pierce these clouds,' said Gimli.
Boromir stepped out of the circle and stared up into the blackness. 'The snow is growing less,' he said, `and the wind is quieter.'

When was the last time you cried?:
I'm from the north, we don't do that here. We just stare stoicly into the distance.
Do you have kids?:
One, my daughter. I'd have loved to have had more children. But sadly that doesn't seem to be what fate has in store for me.
What sports do you play/have played?:
I used to dance when I was younger, but yeah... I'd rather knaw off my own knees then do sport.

What's the first thing you notice about people?:
Something beautiful about them. Not in a shallow way. You spend enough time around artists for a living, you start to notice how lovely someone's elbow is. How someone holds themselves just so. How pretty someone's hair looks in a certain light. Stuff like that. Every body is it's own work of art.

Blue/Grey... Picture what you think the skies in Britain look like, 10 out of the 12 months of the year. That.

Both, neither, like everything else in my life it entirely depends on my mood. I'm an intemperate creature prone to whimsy.

I'm far too English to admit to being talented at anything. (Insert embarrassed, awkward mumbling). I have been told I'm fleet of foot upon the moorland. Is being a moor elf a talent?

What are your hobbies?:
I dabble in many an art and craft. I love walking in nature, I'd be out there every day if I could. TV, film, books, podcasts. There's so much wonderful media at our fingertips today, it's amazing when you stop and think about it. My beloved scrapbooks ofcourse, cataloguing my life and loves in an array of pictures and washi tape.
Do you have any pets?:
I have a literal zoo.
How tall are you?:
Taller then a pony, smaller then a horse. Glad we could clear that up.
Favourite subject in school?
History, I've always loved history. I'd have spent my entire education in history if I'd been allowed to.
Dream job?:
I love my current job. But if I had to pick another, something where I could be independent, outdoors and busy. Something as simple as a postlady or a moorland warden would see me happy.

30th July 2023: Puttles Bride and Whitefield Moor in the New Forest
Pictures taken today in this set: 1. One of a few nice varied mushrooms observed, I'm seeing a few lately including on the green out the front tonight, conditions right for a few to come out in the moist weather of late no doubt. 2 and 3. Views of the Ober Water. 4 and 6. More views on a lovely walk round which used to be a regular New Forest walk of ours, crossing the road for a little while too to the area I usually go at least once a year to look for Common Graylings. It was really good to do this route and have a great walk round through the woodland, heathland, plain and boggy habitats. The heather is starting to look lovely and purple. 5. Chamomile. 7. Lesser spearwort enjoyed for the second Sunday running in water in the forest. 8. Honeysuckle which was delightful to see. 9. Blackthorn sloes, it's good to see these appearing a quintessential part of that late summer period for me. 10. Lovely bell heather.
I had already seen Common Grayling this year at the Great Orme in June so I didn't need to see one on that part of the walk as such but did get a brief view of at least one flying. Red Admiral, Gatekeeper and Meadow Brown were other good butterflies to see on the walk with a grasshopper seen too I believe. Bird wise we got some stunning views of a Swallow swerving through the air and gliding over the short grass of the plain area, and I saw and heard well a Chiffchaff in a gorse dominated area that is always nice to walk through the other side of the road. A fair few Mistle Thrush were nice to see on the plain as well, always a bird I much enjoy seeing and I liked hearing Greenfinch. It was good to get intimate views of New Forest ponies. Other plant highlights included typical New Forest species; bits of gorse in flower, cotton grass and tormentil. Self-heal, ragwort, daisy, lots of hawksbeard, self-heal, agrimony, pretty harebell a key species this weekend, bird's-foot trefoil were other highlights with moss on the heath enjoyed too. It's interesting go back eleven to twelve years when we did visit here so often I never really remember seeing many flowers in spring/summer as at that stage I wasn't into them much and didn't know many, so it's amazing how much more of something you notice once you're awake to it which is a magical part of nature watching. Another precious and packed wild weekend.

How we graze our woods…
Now considering we try to find a good balance between food for us and nature thriving, you would think we would keep our livestock out of our woods for a ‘easy win’ for biodiversity.
We don’t. Mainly because both the woods and the cows seem to do better when they get to meet each other.
We are careful though.
So on the farm we have four different type of wood grazing going on here.
1. Summer grazed
2. Winter grazed
3. Moorland edge set stocked regeneration
4. Ungrazed ‘new’ woods
We have wet woods and field edge woods that get summer grazed. This is where the cows (the sheep come into this later) graze a field at a time, in a two days graze, over 30 days rest pattern, we don’t have a high intensity mob graze system, we aim to leave a lot behind, including sapling’s and scrub, taking the cows out of the wood/field before they can possibly eat everything. We find the woods are bliss for cows in the summer heat, and that they browse the trees but regrowth and new trees survive, especially where the bramble has a foothold. (The cattle browse on the bramble to, but generally later in the year when the saplings are less lush and tasty.)
The winter grazed wood is a larger wood, historically coppiced and with very thin soil due to old open tin mines and rubble heaps. A small bunch of cattle get let into here and left all winter. They get fed hay and have the fun of it all for months. They love it. The wood gets less browse as the leaves have dropped, and most of the understory is in winter mode. There is a lack of understory throughout this wood except where we have started to coppice it again. The lack of light seems to be the main inhibitor to growth in the summer.
The moorland edge woods are natural regen. We have photos of the moor clear of trees, but a reduction (not clearance) of sheep has allowed a gradual creep up the hill of the birch and oak wood. The sheep graze in it, especially in hard weather, and as it’s so airy the lichen thrives. We will just let it get on with its expansion up to the point of the mass of archeology (which we have to keep a bit clearer, so burn every 6 yrs or so), keeping the sheep numbers steady (100 Hebridean sheep mouths inc lambs mixed with cattle and ponies over 200acres including open moor and gorse scrub)
The ‘new’ ungrazed wood has been shut off from grazing for years. It was planted larch in the 70s (drought didn’t help it establish…) and now it’s a lot of Hazel and poor dying young ash. The understory is very poor, too dark, but it’s fairly full of fungi so interesting in its way. I feel it needs a burst of pigs and that as the ash dies the understory will improve. (I can’t find a photo right now… sorry)
We also have corners of ‘never grazed wood’ odd bits where the rocks keep the cattle or sheep or coppice men out, I will do a comparison in the summer to show the understory.
None of this is perfect, but it adds up to a huge amount of very varied biodiversity and a fair number of happy cattle and sheep. We have natural regrowth of trees of all kinds, from beech to oak to masses of Hazel. We have ragged edges to our fields, not clear line where the woods stop and the pasture starts. Wood pasture as well. It’s a mess, but it’s also a farm and it grows so much food for us and all the other creatures that live here…

December 04 - 2023 Monday

This morning I took a quick shower and made a sausage and cheese sandwich with rice and corn. I didn't like the corn. I hurried my shower because I was finishing writing the letter for Daisy's friendiversary gift and it made me half an hour late to streaming. In stream I warmed up with a sketch for a redraw of a Venus pic and a couple of pony bodies. Also tweaked Opaline's face on a sketch. I finished Error's commission today and started one that's supposed to be private but I usually still stream those. In Mia and Me, Onchao talked and I thought he was very cute. He Man had a good episode covering some ancient Eternia stuff. After stream I dawdled a little but buckled down and got my workout done in a reasonable time. I think the stress helped me jog for longer as opposed to speedwalking. I did 3 miles instead of the usual 2 because I left out my 50 squat reps. After mile 2 is when I get into the groove and can keep going without discomfort. I took a shower and stepped out to touch up my hair which I think I did okay. I feel like I should know by now how to cut my own hair but I keep making the same mistakes. For lunch I made Dinty Moore stew and it tasted a little bland, I could taste the carrots more than normal as if they weren't cooked as long and I don't like that. Shortly after my dad arrived home with my groceries. I felt kinda icky packing them all away, more than usual because I'm averse to not knowing where things have been, especially things I'm going to eat. But that always wears off after a day or two of having the food in my house. I bought WAY more frozen veggies than I thought but it's good because they are all different. For some reason none of the 3 people I contacted about winning requests contacted me back yet so I had to work on a pic of Opaline I was doing. Halfway through someone did reply so I did their request and then finished with Opaline again. I did the majority of my work in VRchat desktop so I could listen to people talk. I found some teenage eboys and egirls to camp next to. For the last 15 minutes I was in TDS chatting with Rousso before he left to get on VR. After work I felt weird and stressed in different ways so I tried to play some Cities with a stream on the side but I didn't have any good streams. I switched to Hell Let Loose and did VERY well, I got 15 kills in one life laying in a field with the default bolt action rifle. I was a good shot today in general. Daisy asked to get in VR so I abandoned my teammates for that. I got my new trackers set up which was as easy as connecting them and waited for her in my bridge world. A good few random people joined and I conversed with them until Daisy arrived. We hopped to the Black Cat and found out about a couple of teleport rooms. Then we hopped to Furhub and checked out any new avatars. We found a very cute cat model. Then we went to a vore world before hopping off. We kissed in the stomach acid. I did my dishes while she transitioned upstairs like always. In bed I played Neopets while we chatted about our feelings and things between us. I spent the whole time cutting grass around a big campfire.

Case Studies Needed
Hello, my name is Motje Wolf and I am currently undertaking a course aiming to become an applied herbal choices consultant with Rose Holistic Therapies and Training.
Applied herbal choices goes back to Caroline Ingraham’s work and has also a fancy name of Zoopharmacognosy and essentially means to assist animals in self-selecting herbs and essential oils to assist healing on a mental and a physical level. Animals have an innate ability to heal themselves by choosing to eat the right plants. However, many animals have no access to hedgerows or old meadows where these plants grow. Applied Herbal Choices, therefore, enriches the animal by offering many different herbs and essential oils for the animal to choose from.
I specialise in rescue animals inspired by my rescue pony Charm. He came to me as a traumatised feral pony. Growing up in Bodmin Moor, he was rescued aged 1.5 and put into a rescue centre as nobody claimed him and he needed looking after. He stayed at the rescue for over 2 years but even then it was difficult to engage with him. I adopted him in 2018 and have slowly gained his trust. In 2021, after plateauing in our training for a long time, we did an applied herbal choices session with a wonderful practitioner called Helen Hardisty, who also graduated from my course, during which he released a lot of his trauma. Ever since, I have been allowed to touch him and I have now established proper touch acceptance since 2022. This experience was so inspiring that I decided to train and become a practitioner myself to help other animals.
I have learned a lot over the last few month about the healing properties of herbs and oils and have done practical sessions. As part of my course I now need to do more practice sessions and case studies in order to gain enough practical experience.

I am based between Telford and Shrewsbury in Shropshire and happy to drive a reasonable distance.
A session like this costs usually between £60 and £120 - but as I am still training this will be provided absolutely free of charge.
A bit more about my background:
I am myself a guardian of many rescues (horses, feral cats, chickens…) and have also worked for the Blue Cross as a horse and pony welfare assistant. I am half-way through the equine behaviourist course of the Natural Animal Centre and am a positive reinforcement and force-free horse trainer. I support force-free and positive training also in the dog world by sitting on the UK Dog Charter’s oversight committee which makes me responsible for dealing with complaints about training.
I will be fully insured with Balens (student insurance) at the point of my first session.
Please note that I will not be diagnosing your animal - that would be a task for a vet. I will simply offer herbs and oils for your animal to choose from. This is not a prescription or anything like this, but merely a selection your animal makes. All I do is offering.

What A Day!
We finally got to Dartmoor National Park and, wow, what a day we had!
Let’s start with Oh Sweet Jesus I hate driving on English country lanes! AndI wasn’t even driving, Jeff was! I was navigating (you really need both). There was much eeeep’ing and clenching of my toes and leaning into the center of the car and away from the 10’ hedges that grow RIGHT UP TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD. And often hide a stone wall.
Jeff is my hero for doing all the driving, never ending up in the wrong lane, and never running into the shrubbery. In a stick shift rental car.
Damn, he’s good.
I love to see a new landscape. Last year I was wow’d by western Nebraska. (Seriously, the panhandle is cool!) But the moors…..oh year. Not flat, for one thing. Very undulating. Virtually treeless. The brightest spots of color are the gorse bushes. But so vast. So distinct. (And colder than expected. I have, once again, had to buy a hat and gloves in the UK!) Everytime we stopped on a peak, I could only gaze at it in wonder.
And then there’s the ponies and the sheep, sometimes in the middle of the road. We actually had to stop for two sheep that were *sleeping* in the road (assuming the asphalt was warmer than the ground). A little too large to treat a mere speed bumps.
The little towns (and they are little!) are wonderful places to stop at a cafe, have a wander around, and just chill and enjoy the scenery.
Our final stop — the Buckfast Abbey — has the best donuts and other baked goods! Oh, yes, and beautiful gardens and an amazing church (which is shockingly clean and shiny, even if it is only 85 years old). It was all so pristine, I felt a little out of place. Should it look a little….lived in? But it was beautiful.
I would love to come back and do some hiking. Next time, I’ll do a professional tour (there are lots of tour companies around) and let someone else do the driving!
