Ugh the whole immortality thing makes me feel ick. I feel it'd be more fitting for Ozzie to become mortal to be with Fizz being I see the guy as someone who is willing to give up everything to be with someone but even i'm not a fan of that. Perhaps in another reality where Viv was a good writer (or someone else was writing HB honestly), she wouldn't write her queer couples so heteronormative and for Fizzomdous' case explore the whole immortality/mortality with more nuance and how both would have to come to terms with the fact they won't be able to be together forever but still happy spending the time the two do have. I know tragic ships aren't your thing but it'd be more interesting than what we got and possibility will get. And of course Fizz and Ozzie having lives outside each other would be nice too. I want to see Blitzo, Barbie and Fizz being a bunch of gremlins getting into hijinx and causing all sorts of mayhem and maybe we can see Ozzie do...in royal sin stuff idk what do the Sins do? I have a whole rant about that but this is getting long as it is.

Plus marriage doesn't need to be the end of all of a relationship. Plenty of people are together for years but never tie the knot. Plus I don't see Fizz wanting to be 'queen' material.

I know tragic ships aren't your thing but it'd be more interesting than what we got and possibility will get.

I actually do like tragic ships, Finn and Flame Princess, Mr Peanutbutter and Diane, Ice king and Betty, Jinx and Ekko. But I dislike how they made blitzfizz nothing more than a plot device to give stolitz and fizzarozzie more angst. The whole backstory, despite being better and more tragic abc compelling than anything stolas could squeeze out of his cloaca, was clearly ditched for the sake of the “otp”. And it has the narrative cruelty of Bury Your Gays, implying that having a gay crush only leads to tragedy. Then to make it worse, outside people gaslit them into thinking the other doesn’t care. And I guess, those people won, and got what they wanted? Because they’re eternally separated now 🤔

I had an anon recently that threw my words back in my face about how sometimes your first love isn’t your last to be an anti blitzfizz argument. But uh. I guess that doesn’t apply if you’re a powerful enough Goetia royals to preserve your first love and make sure you can use your supernatural powers an status so that nobody comes between the two of you? my favorite female character: Betty-Ann and Mary-Ann. Partially because of the hockey thing, but also because I enjoy that they are women who are dudebros who are sick of men's bullshit. Also they are a peak comedic duo and, crucially, they are in love even if they haven't figured that out yet.

my favorite male character: For season one, Super Soft Wayne. For seasons two and later, Reilly and Jonesy. They're the only characters that really seem to develop and grow as people throughout the series so I'm more invested in them than anyone else, and also they're two halves of a whole idiot which is always a fun dynamic.

my favorite book/season/etc: This show stays mostly consistent across seasons, but I'll say season 5 which is nothing but banger after banger.

my favorite episode (if its a tv show): Too many to choose, but I love A Fuss At The Golf Course, Back to Back to Back, and The Letterkenny Leave.

my anti otp: I'm not a fan of Wayne/Daryl which I know a lot of people ship, although I don't hate it – I just don't really get it and I prefer Wayne/Rosie. Also this isn't really the question, but I'm getting kind of tired of all the guys being in love with Bonnie McMurray (especially the non-hicks, as per Sleepover).

Shoresy:

my favorite female character: Do I have to choose between Nat, Ziig, and Laura? I know that's almost all the female characters but I love them all... Nat is probably the most compelling so far though, I hope she gets as much or more focus next season.

my favorite male character: Goody and/or Sanger. Forced to pick, probably Sanger since he has a bit more of a fleshed out personality.

my favorite book/season/etc: There's only one season so far but hopefully they keep getting better from here!

my favorite episode (if its a tv show): Veteran Presence. The whole show kind of melds into one though, there's very few self-contained plot threads.

my favorite cast member: I don't know anything most of the cast members have done so I'll say Keeso by default

a character I grew to love: Shoresy himself. Like I said, I hated him on Letterkenny (even though he is funny), but I really like what they've done with him here and I'm excited to see him grow and improve.

my anti otp: God I wish Shoresy's foster sisters weren't dating each other. Aside from that, I'm not really into Miig/Sanguinet but only because Miig hasn't been given much of a personality yet and we haven't seen enough of them interacting directly to really care about their relationship. No real antis though.

Since we’re all about to dissect Riverdale’s tripping on mushrooms episode as if it were The Brothers Karamazov …

… a little something about Bughead, sex and purity.

The two main characteristics of Bughead’s sex life are intimacy and exclusiveness. Sure, they’re kinky too (“Bondage? Nice!” said 5x10 Jughead with an eager smile on his face) but mostly, sex for Bughead is about making love and being each other’s center of attention.

If 5x10 taught reminded us anything, is that Riverdale!Jughead was, is, and probably forever will be, Bettysexual. Canonically, not only is Betty the only woman Jughead’s interested in, but also the only woman interested in him. No one else seems to find the emo heartthrob – come successful writer attractive. (Which I find ridiculous but it is what it is.) “But what about Tabitha, and Cora and Jessica?” you will ask. “You mean his aborted and/or failed relationships?” I shall answer. The writers’ goal in making all of Jughead’s post-time-jump relationships flukes, is to preserve the intimate and exclusive character of his relationship with Betty. Jughead’s failed/aborted relationships are a little bit wump-y for my taste and, objectively speaking, it is extremely unhealthy (and not romantic) to insinuate that a person cannot have a good relationship with anyone who is not the show’s otp. And yet, it is this fairy-tale approach that makes Jughead such an incredibly attractive character partner-wise: he only wants one girl. (That is not to say that there aren’t other things that make him attractive 😉).

Unattached, post-time-jump Betty can and should have as much sex with as many people with as few strings as she desires. This is a hill I’m willing to die on. If you consider a sexually active Betty unworthy, that is your problem to be discussed with your therapist. The fact that said sex is shown to be neither intimate nor exclusive, is what rankles most with a lot of the fans, because it goes against what bughead stands for. It also goes against what Betty stands for, because both she and Jughead have been defined -for most part of the show- as one half of their relationship. Post-time-jump Betty’s sexuality simply doesn’t track with that image. By now, it should be clear that this is deliberate: it’s not meant to track. The way she expresses her sexuality is meant to be viewed in a negative light. It is meant to be juxtaposed both to pre-4x17 Betty and to future bughead.

You know what also rankles? The sexism of it.

We are explicitly told that Jughead’s relationships end in failure, which is the opposite of Betty’s hook ups (they are meaningless from the beginning, ergo they can’t fail). In reality, of course, both Jughead and Betty are equally messy. If Jughead has been failing to have a positive relationship, Betty simply hasn’t formed any relationships period. On the surface, however,  this narrative boosts Jughead’s desirability as Betty’s exclusive partner. The sex-without-strings narrative still carries a different weight for women than it does for men. Case in point: the fandom’s meltdown. Then you have to add the fact that Betty’s sexuality is linked to her deteriorating mental health. That’s nothing new for Riverdale, however, fucking around in your 20s shouldn’t carry the same narrative weight as torturing and almost killing a man. Dammit, Riverdale!

Stripped down, the season’s narrative re:bughead is simply this: sex without your one true love is bad for you. This has been Riverdale’s m.o. for bughead since the beginning. Not all Jabitha haters nor all anti-Bughead stans are purists. But some of them are. And while it is indeed the narrative that the show has cultivated, it’s anyone’s choice to think critically for themselves.

Jughead’s an adult. If he really wanted to tackle his relationship with Betty these past 7 years, he would have. He’s been repressing like a champ, just like Betty has. He was tripping balls in 5x10 and finally admitted that he both wanted/still wants Betty to make the first step and that he’s ready to forgive her. We’ll see Betty’s (similar) take on things after the hiatus. It’s inevitable. Betty’s not responsible for Jughead’s trauma (which is yet to be revealed) in the same way she’s not responsible for his success (graduating from Iowa Uni, books no1 and now 2). Jughead’s not responsible for Betty’s trauma either (that’s TBK) nor her success (graduating from Yale, getting into the FBI, almost catching a serial killer). Neither will “fix” each other’s problems. That’s not what they do. What they will do is provide each other with the safe space that will help them overcome those problems.

The sex will be epic too.

favorite thing about them: he is always true to himself, being this a matter of his sexuality or just in general he being who is. He is extremely loyal. He has a heart of gold he keeps hidden but then comes out in the most unexpected ways (just see his friendship with Betty, or Justin).

least favorite thing about them: okay to be loyal but he really did questionable things for Willie lol

brOTP: Amanda!!! Honestly I was obsessed with their friendship during my UB years. You know that for your major shows you typically have a major ship, maybe an OTP, that you spiral over? For me it was Marc and Amanda. I did have other ships but the most fundamental relationship of the show was theirs. It simply was phenomenal. Of course, they were one of the funniest parts of the show but below the one liners and the pettiness there was this amazing relationship. They did love each other so much, in such a sincere, sweet, pure way. It was more than a simple best friends thing, more than siblings out of blood. Someone would say they would have been together if he wasn't gay but I don't agree, it was simply something else, another form of love. It just adds to it the fact that Michael and Becki connected from the very first moment and had a great chemistry, proof is how they are still good friends so many years later. Special mention: he and Betty, the two of them or as a trio with Amanda. They developed this unpredictable yet very sweet friendship and it was amazing. Special mention /2: he and Willie! He starts as her minion but then he simply becomes his confidant and friend. He would have done everything for her - and from a certain point on it's clear it was not out of duty but because she was his friend.

OTP: Cliff!!! I will be forever bitter about the idiotic way they broke up he and Cliff and never came back. They were just a good fit, that kind of pair when each can learn from the other. Cliff was cute, fun, smart, he could stand up to Marc and bring the best out of him. Sigh,

nOTP: Not really a nOTP but I couldn't care less about the guy he gets together at the end. I mean, it was fun the first time because he was played by Becki's brother but then idk. He barely had a personality, sure it was nice to see Marc with a little joy in his life but that was it.

Why I like them

Ned is the ultimate BFF. He is the best friend I have ever seen in any superhero film. He’s a great supporter of Peter, but he’s also not afraid to call him out on his bs. He’s 100% ride or die (”I’m looking at porn” anyone??) and he’s got enough enthusiasm to power a small country. 

Why I don’t

Does not apply. There is nothing to dislike about Ned except disliking the writers for making his role nearly non-existent and too clownish in FFH. He was still great, but I didn’t love that he had less than five minutes of lines and was purely comic relief and little else. (My boy deserves better!) 

Favorite episode (scene if movie)

Favorite scene is definitely when he tries to talk Peter out of hacking into the suit at the hotel in DC. Sure he caves to Peter’s puppy dog eyes eventually, but he showed us in that scene that he’s not just here for jokes--he’s a great friend who cares enough about Peter to try to dissuade his dumb BFF toward better choices.

1.  What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

This is a loaded question because if we’re talking about non-canon ships, there are many combinations of characters that people like that I either wouldn’t even thought of myself or have no feelings about. So I’ll go with 2 canon ones (I don’t consider barchie canon, fight me) that get a lot of hype and I don’t feel it

Choni - Honestly, before they happened I liked the idea. And in theory they could work. But the writers screwed this one up so badly. For majority of their relationship, both Cheryl and Toni were their worst selves. Now after the time jump we see that the time apart really helped Toni to realize just how fucked up their situation was, while Cheryl is still just the same manipulative person as always. And I know that people still hope for Cheryl to get better, grow and change and I hope for that too but I won’t be rooting for them to be together just like I wouldn’t root for other characters to come back to their abusive partner.

Falice - Would you believe it if I said I actually sort of liked that idea at first? But only the idea. The moment they started going on about a tragic love story (that then turned out not to be a love story at all based on the parentdale episode) they lost me. And by the time Falice started dating and living together with their children who were also dating, I was truly done with them. They’re both very selfish characters and bad parents and they don’t make each other better. At most they distracted each other enough to spend less time being bad parents. 

And of course with both of these ships it’s the most vocal and rabid part of their shippers who made me dislike them even more

16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

What wouldn’t I change? 😂 In all seriousness though, there is a lot about this silly show that I’m willing to go along with or work around. The only thing I’ll never want to go along with though is the bughead cheating storyline. It made no sense for Betty, it affected the otherwise perfect ship in a very negative way and at the end of the day it was pointless because everything that is happening now could’ve happened without the cheating.

22. Popular character you hate?

This is a tough one because at different points of the show, I’ve hated most characters for one reason or another. Most common contenders for reasons ranging from being painfully cringey and annoying to actively hurting the characters I love (in no particular order) are: Archie, Alice, Kevin and Cheryl. I guess the most popular out of these would be Cheryl but I don’t hate her as much or as often as the others so it would be hard pick a true winner here.

My top 5 Bughead scenes

5). There were a LOT of contenders for this spot and while I was pretty set on my top four, this was hardest. Honourable mentions to their Seventeen duet in 3x16, "Jug, will you to prom with me" in 3x20 for the sheer adorableness of that moment, and the emotional release of their reunion in 4x15 including the Betty beanie buuuut I ultimately settled on their first kiss is 1x06. I love that kiss. I love Jughead comforting Betty first ("we're not our parents"), he is SO GOOD at reaching her when she is spiraling, like right from the beginning of their relationship. And then his "also" followed by that beat of hesitation & "what... what" before he goes for it. You go and get her, man. And then when he pulls away and Betty keeps her eyes closed and kind of basks in the glow of it before her realization about the car. Like the kiss rocked her world but also cleared and centered her mind. I love love love it.

4). Dark!Bughead in 4x19. I mean obviously this scene was going to make my list. And I specifically mean the scene where Betty says they didn't CUT REGGIE'S BRAKES, what happened was an ACCIDENT quickly followed by Jughead sinisterly saying they can't change what happened and then whispering in Betty's ear while the rest of their friends melted down. Like, that scene just DID things to me. I know it was an in canon AU version of Bughead (a strange sentence to write but here we are) but also, JUST GIVE ME DARK BUGHEAD IN ALL THE FORMS. Plus I will never be over real Betty's reaction to Jughead writing her as a murderous psychopath with "best story ever what a plot twist I love it." This whole episode was a gift and we are blessed to have had it as our de facto season 4 finale.  3). Betty sending Archie to break up with Jughead in 2x05. THE ANGST I LIVE FOR GIVE IT TO ME. Betty being forced to break up with Jughead by the Black Hood and it being the absolute worst thing for her but she has to do it anyway to protect him? Rip out your own heart for the one you love etc., a trope I am always here for. But also not being able to face it herself and so delegating it to Archie instead o m g. "How are you going to put him and yourself through that?" "I was hoping maybe you would do it." Lili just SELLS Betty's pain and anguish in this scene. I ate it all up. And Archie does it in like the worst, most painful way possible because of course he does, it is Archie, why would you trust him with anything.  (Dumping via Archie is, by the way, way worse than via text.)

2). Betty threatening Donna in the woods at the end of 4x14, "I know you killed him, the man I love" while wearing Jughead's jacket. THIS SCENE. THIS SCENE. First, is there anything better than Betty's drive to burn everything to the ground, destroy Stonewall Prep, everything, everyone because they hurt Jughead? YOU GET 'EM BB. There is also a noticeable shift in Betty's demeanor in this scene from earlier in the episode. She is almost enjoying herself in this scene. I think at this point in the timeline, Betty knows Jughead is going to be okay. So she has shifted from grief and worry and straight into VENGEANCE for going after her man. Vengeance on Betty Cooper is a LOOK. Plus she gives her "daughter of the black hood" speech, a classic speech, never gets old. All while wearing Jughead's sherpa. Oh my god I love it.

1). The booth scene at Pop's in 1x10. This scene STILL gives me butterflies in my stomach. The way they lay themselves bare to each other. Jughead shares his fears about being an outsider, what if she does not really want him / what if this ends in rejection? And Betty, naming the darkness in herself, showing him the indentations in her palms. It is soft and intimate and raw all at once. The acceptance and love when Jughead kisses her hands is beautiful. The thing about Betty and Jughead is that they know each other's dark, raggedy edges better than anyone else in their lives & they accept and love each other for it. That is true OTP content.

how i feel about this character.

betty is one of my favourites on the show. she’s amazing with a lot of what she does and goes through a lot of character development too. she’s super strong willed though also kind and sweet, and i always enjoy when she’s on screen. she’s also absolutely gorgeous.

all the people i ship romantically with this character.

jughead is my top person to ship her with of course. though i think betty and veronica would also make an amazing ship and i’d love to see some of it. i also think betty and toni would be cool to see, too.

my non-romantic otp for this character.

betty and tabitha. i feel like if they spoke more and got to know each other then they would get on extremely well. i’d love to see them have a deeper friendship. though canon wise it has to be betty and veronica.

my unpopular opinion about this character.

dark betty is cringy. the scene in the cabin genuinely makes me cringe when i see it i hate it.

one thing i wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

i’d honestly have loved to see some betty and veronica as a romantic relationship for a while. i really think it would be an amazing ship, even if it didn’t last.

Work Place Romance Trope

Day 3 baby and its getting serious. Nothing is more romantic than falling in love in a mundane office space. These are 5 of my otps (in some particular order) that fit this trope perfectly. Enjoy!

1. Jim and Pam (The Office)

Of course they had to be number one on this list, they are what everyone thinks about when you think this trope. They gave people unrealistic expectation for love in the work place and we love them for it. 

2. Jonah and Amy (Superstore)

Out of this list, they are may favorite couple. I love their energy so much and will miss them when they are gone. :( 

3. Jake and Amy ( Brooklyn 99)

Definitely a fun workplace and a couple. Was so happy when they first got together and now they are married and have a kid. This is the goal for all ships so to see it happen in a steady, consistence pass was very refreshing.

4. Andy and April (Parks and Rec)

Just watch the reunion and I forgot how much I loved this couple. So I had to put them on this list since I (kinda) forgot them on the height difference one. They may make a reappearance if I do a super happy, super angry couple. 

5. Betty and Daniel (Ugly Betty)

AHHHHHH! I loved this pairing so much when I watched the show and I wish we actually got to see them together as a couple. They definitely had feeling for each other but in the end they always supported each others as friend and that was more then I could ask for.

As Jughead and Tabitha are about to embark into fake dating, i.e. the tropiest of tropes to ever trope* -and we all know from 4x17 what faking dating leads to in Riverdale- a few thoughts on whether Jabitha are happening out of the blue or not under the cut.

Back in march, a kind anon had asked me what I thought of Jabitha. The answer is here and it hasn’t changed. Long story short, I don’t mind them but they’re not my otp and I’d like my bughead back asap, please and thank you.

That being said S4 B*rchie and s5 Jabitha are NOT comparable and not just because the latter doesn’t involve Archie (which is a blessing and -in this show- one learns to count those).

S4 B*rchie had no build-up. Archie and Betty hadn’t even shared scenes together. Betty’s whole storyline in s4 was about the lengths she would go to help Jughead because of her love for him. It was so unexpected that, when Barchie happened, the writers had to spell it out for us via Cheryl. And when they wanted to tell us that it hadn’t really meant anything (because they wanted to have their cake and eat it), they also had to spell it via Cheryl.

This is in no way comparable to a possible s5Jabitha. Tabitha has been Jughead’s confidant since ep5. Sure, Bughead had a heart to heart in 5x18. But that is just one episode. (Of course, this is Riverdale, so one episode might actually be enough, but you get the gist). They danced. They kissed. Yes, they were awkward about it afterwards but it was a good kiss. Had it been Betty in that kiss, I would have been absolutely ecstatic and wouldn’t have given a flying f*** about the lingering awkwardness. Jughead never said that he didn’t view Tabitha romantically, just that he wasn’t in the right place for a relationship. That was … several months according to Riverdale time (his trip to NY alone lasted weeks according to one Waldo Weatherbee). Jughead’s maple mushroom trip had him hallucinating Betty as a desired partner but also Tabitha (you can’t pick and choose: either it doesn’t mean anything for both women because he was high or it was his subconscious speaking in both instances). Most importantly, Tabitha has been Jughead’s almost exclusive scene partner for the biggest part of the season.

Do some heartfelt talks, a hand touch and a kiss constitute enough material for a romantic relationship?

I don’t know. I’m not an objective viewer: for me, one unfinished heartfelt talk, a shoulder touch and a hallucination are enough for Bughead coming back together. So, who knows?

After all, that is the whole purpose of this plot line, isn’t it? Keeping the viewers on their toes.

This, by the way, is in no form an attack against Jughead. Both Jabitha (now) and Bughead (later) can happen without people taking advantage of each other. If your destination is Hate Town, you can hop off, because this post is not going there.

The thing is: it can go either way. We are talking about writers who excitedly teased B*rchie showering together in 5x5 having already written (and probably even filmed) B*rchie breaking up in 5x8!

Narratively speaking, I don’t think the writers would show one half of an established and popular couple hallucinating their ex twice and leaving their job in the middle of the day to go help her with her investigation OR the other half finally admitting their problems to that person and that person only, for them not to come back together eventually.

* Bughead coming back to Riverdale in 5x4 as a couple that -for whatever investigative reason- had to fake being broken up was my most favourite head canon for teasing a (never actually happening) b*rchie back in the beginning of this season.

(There’ll be a smallish rant later on about s5′s misery porn. It’ll be the last one, because I’m watching this show for fun -or, at least, trying to- and want to limit the negativity!)

an interview with @burninghoneyatdusk​ (she/her) What are you working on right now? Right now I’m prioritizing prompts for the Bellarke Writers for BLM Initiative, which is a mix of new prompts and requests for WIP updates. I just posted a chapter update of my fic Voices in the Water, which is a canon-verse/everyone is a grounder arranged marriage AU with a bit of a twist, and next I’m working on a new prompt. After that, I’ve got three chapters of All Because of You  requested. All Because of You is a modern AU with bellarke as *platonic* coparents. The story is told in alternating flashbacks and present day (every other chapter). The flashbacks focus on them growing closer during Clarke’s unplanned pregnancy and the present is seven years later, where they have to come to terms with their feelings for each other when Clarke gets engaged to someone else.

What’s something you’d like to write one day? I would love to publish a novel one day. For years I had a YA dystopian/time travel trilogy kind of planned but I poked too many holes in it and want to start from scratch in that regard. Another novel I want to write is one that covers three generations of women, looking at mother-daughter relationships, women in society, generational trauma… a lot of stuff. It was inspired by learning about my grandmother’s life more and thinking about how it impacted her relationship with my mother, and in turn my mother’s relationship with me.

For fanfiction, beyond my current prompts and WIPs, I have two other fics outlined. One is an AU inspired by the movie Plus One. The other is a soulmate AU that’s a bit dark and involves immortality, magic, and essentially Bellamy as a villain with a redemption arc.

What is the fanwork you’re most proud of? I think All Because of You will probably remain my most popular, but right now I’m most proud of Voices in the Water. More so than my other fics, it has a more concise plot and I’ve done a deeper dive into Clarke’s character as an Azgeda assassin and I think the reader really gets into her head more than my other multiple POV fics. It’s also my first canonverse fic and I’ve enjoyed diving into that world and expanding upon it where I want.

When did you first start writing fic? I didn’t start writing fic until the beginning of 2019. I first published in February 2019, which was Homesick (It’s a Bittersweet Feeling). It was my first fic and the only multichapter WIP that’s complete right now, so it’s a special story for me.

What frustrates you most about fic writing? I’ve mostly had only a positive experience with fanfic writing. With the exception of a couple stray comments, my readers have been gracious, kind, and most importantly, patient. But I guess it can be challenging when you self-impose pressure because you’re aware that people are waiting for you to publish so sometimes I rush things. I haven’t personally experienced this, but I think that fic writing can also be frustrating when readers feel like you owe them something or unnecessarily offer negative comments that aren’t at all constructive. Some people forget that people are publishing stories for free, in their spare time, often in addition to full-time jobs or school and parenting.

What are your top five songs right now? 1. castles (freya ridings) 2. maniac (conan gray) 3. fired up (grace carter) 4. I am not afraid (g flip) 5. wanna be (betty who)

What are your inspirations? (books, songs, other fic) I take inspiration from all of those things but I would say mostly quotes and random photos on tumblr. I wrote Homesick because I liked the step-siblings/forbidden trope and wanted to write in a small town setting like the one I grew up in. All Because of You was honestly the classic “this is my bedtime daydream story I think about every night” so it’s pretty self-indulgent with the tropes I wanted to use. Voices in the Water was started because I loved the grounder!Bellamy / arranged marriage trope. The wanheda twist came from me reading the 4x11 script to screen with Clarke trying to force herself to shoot Bellamy to save humanity, but realizing that she can’t.

What first attracted you to Bellarke? What attracts you now? I’m not sure I remember a specific moment but I think I remember bellarke being all over my tumblr dash when I started s2 so kind of paying close attention to them during s2. s2 was of course a great season for them and by the ‘knocking on heaven’s door’ scene in 2x16 I was a goner.

Regarding what drew me to them, I think I’ve always loved a good slow burn with the partners/”I’ve got your back” vibe that they have. My first (and biggest) OTP before them was tony & ziva from NCIS which is a really similar vibe although a very different show.

Besides Bellarke, what character or pairing do you like best on t100? I think that Memori is probably my second place ship. Before s7, I would say there was a HUGE gap between my love of Bellarke and Memori, but this season has made me an even bigger Memori fan. I have to say that while I don’t think there was ever a chance of Murven happening, I do understand why people ship it. I think they have great chemistry/a great dynamic and in another life, so to speak, I would have shipped them. 

Regarding characters on their own, I just love all my delinquents, but I think that Murphy is solidly my third favorite character. Raven and Octavia are probably tied behind him.

Why did you decide to start bellarkefic-for-blm? I credit the reason to Kara ( @queenemori ). (Sidenote: everyone go follow her! She’s an amazing fanfic writer and overall just a really positive, awesome person to have in the fandom). I remember reading her post  - and I won’t try to paraphrase, so please take the time to read her it - but in general it got me thinking about how we as a fandom could support the BLM movement in a substantial way that is more than just spreading posts on social media, and in a way that doesn’t lose momentum as time goes on and the movement becomes less “trendy.” I thought about how many people collectively read our fanfiction and how we provide it for free, and if people could just pay a few dollars or however much they can afford and donate that to the cause, we collectively could make a huge difference. So that’s what I’m hoping this is - making a substantial difference in a way that doesn’t fade in time and also uses the power of fandom in a useful way. We have a lot of power if we collectively put it towards something like this instead of fighting over ships or actors or whatnot. I also figured that maybe we’d have readers who weren’t paying attention to the movement and that maybe because they want to submit a prompt, they’d do some research on where to donate, and that in turn helps educate them on the issue - or is at least a start.

Has it been as successful as you’d hoped? So on the positive side, I do think it’s incredible that in about six weeks we’ve raised nearly $1250 and have been able to donate to a variety of organizations. I’m incredibly grateful for the authors donating their time and the enthusiastic readers participating. I don’t mean to sound negative at all, but if I’m being honest, I do feel a little frustration at the lack of participation across the fandom as a whole or maybe more specifically across the AO3 readers. I know that my WIP chapters average about 1k hits per update. That’s a lot of people. Even if you cut that in half because maybe people are rereading, that’s still 500 people. So why are only about 20 of my readers donating to this initiative? I think it’s a bit discouraging when you look at the percentage in that way. 

That’s not to say that I don’t understand that some aren’t financially in a position to donate, but I’ve made it clear that there are other ways to contribute (e.g. signing petitions, writing to politicians) and there hasn’t been traction with that either. So I think that in general, something is always better than nothing and it has in no way discouraged me from continuing this. But I’m hoping that more people are able to participate as time goes on. It’s truly a win-win situation of generating more fanfics for readers and donating to an important issue, so I hope to see the percentage of fanfiction readers submitting prompts increase and am doing what I can to continue spreading the word about it. 

I guess in summary what I’m saying is, I’m proud of what the fandom has done so far, but let’s step it up. We can do more, we can do better. Maybe people will get pissed I said that, but idk. If you read fic and can buy a $3 coffee, you can donate to this cause. It’s important. As was Kara’s point, let’s not see this momentum fade when the BLM movement becomes less ~trendy~.

Thank you, so much, for that last answer to that anon. I appreciate how intensely pro-Bughead (and pro-Betty) you are. The shipping thing has always been hard for me in the fandom, because I can’t help but feel let down sometimes when others abandon it or support an alternative one. Of course, that is their right, but I do cherish the people I follow who don’t waver. It’s a comfort.

i’m pro-jughead too, ha, i just get a lot more asks about betty than jug, tbh. 

i find people can be fickle. 

there’s a lot of people who multi-ship but when they don’t really do it until “so and so” messed up, it can often come off disingenuous. that’s not to say that they are, that’s to say that i think a lot of people are seeing the same “punish betty” vibes in the way that things are being multi-shipped these days as we saw last year. and again, not all mutli-shippers are acting this way and i don’t control the way anyone ships (and i would never try to) but some people are pretty transparent about it. 

i was disheartened and disappointed in the way part of the fandom turned around and treated a character they said they loved (but i think we also both know now how much that wouldn’t have happened with a flipped narrative). 

for me, i don’t do a lot of otps. some people ship with everything they watch. some people find pairings for every scenario and i just don’t work that way. if i actually can find time or the energy to care enough, it’s because a certain pairing grabs my attention and i’m a loyal little shit like that. 

i have a handful of otps at best and even if i prefer one character to the other, i still am immensely invested in both of them and want to see them both happy. 

but hey, whatever works for other people is fine. i just think some of it is super performative at times (like, say, the people who haven’t gone on a betty tirade to me since the whole b/a thing ended. funny how that works). the intense need to prove that their faves are better than others is just...exhausting. who cares? it’s fake. 

no one has ever won the internet for being a keyboard warrior.
