Crushes
Plot: Gwendolyn is watching captainanon’s twitch stream, and the topic of crushes is brought up - feat. Bates (College AU)
Gwendolyn’s phone buzzed with a notification that captainanon (or Anon, as she liked to call him)’s twitch stream is going live, and she immediately opens a new tab on her browser--ignoring the previous one with her essay on it.
She always liked watching his streams, even though she wasn’t really into video games, she liked hearing his commentary which were often very funny and entertaining, and it served as a nice background noise to fill her lonely days at campus.
As she got on, she saw the number of views immediately sky rocket, and the chat being filled with emotes and random comments, ranging from genuine compliments, to thirst comments and a few hateful ones. Gwendolyn left a kind greeting on his chat, to which he immediately responded on his stream, addressing her by her handle (sweet_delights) with a tone of genuine happiness in his voice, which made her feel happier than she should have.
He was playing Halo with another twitch streamer, his friend hellhound 666--who he often called him as Bates--and right off the bat Gwendolyn was laughing at Anon's jokes, and the stream went on like this for thirty minutes or so, with the topic changing from the actual game they were playing, to things about their personal life and goals, and finally to their love life.
“I’m single as fuck.” Bates blurted.
“That makes two of us!” Anon laughed, then proceeded to read a question one commenter asked.
“Do you have a crush, though?” he read, and there was a long pause.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” his friend laughed, as Anon still hadn’t answered the question.
“No, no, it’s--well, it’s not--I mean,” Anon stammered, as he was trying to defend himself.
Gwendolyn raised an eyebrow, surprised at his reaction. He was usually cool and collected, and always had a snarky remark ready on the tip of his tongue, even when they would chat with each other privately--which has happened quite often recently--he never showed any sign of being timid or embarrassed. But now he was very much the opposite of his usual persona.
“I mean,” he continued. “Well....yeah, kinda. I do.”
“Does she know?” asked Bates.
“Nah,” Anon replied. “at least I don’t think so, but she probably wouldn’t be into me anyway…”
“Rip.” said Bates, as he shot his target in the game.
Gwendolyn froze, staring at the screen as hundreds of comments flooded his chat box, ranging from shocked emoji faces to raging outbursts from his fans. She wondered who it could be, but then wondered why was she worrying about it in the first place? It wasn't any of her business to know, or care that Anon had grown feelings for someone. She was glad for him, and hoped that whoever caught his heart takes notice of him, and appreciates him for who he is.

A Helping Hand
Plot: Anonai shows up at Gwendolyn’s bakery, and gives her a helping hand.
It was early in the morning, but Gwendolyn was already up and about down at her bakery, cleaning up the floor, sweeping the tables and chairs, dusting off the racks, and restocking her items, replacing empty trays with freshly baked goods.
Though she would have been exhausted by now if it wasn’t for her magic, as the broom magically swept the floor, and several rags cleaned up the tables, and above her empty trays magically flew above her into the kitchen, and out of it came a row of fresh pastries that neatly made their way inside the fridge displays. Even Gumdrop helped, by making sure that the enchanted brooms and rags wouldn’t stray from their duties.
Even though she was growing a little tired, she couldn’t rest just yet because the bakery was going to open in a few hours, and everything had to be perfect! She didn’t like greeting her customers with a dirty shop, especially since she was handling food, and she also hated an unorganized display, otherwise people would think she was unprofessional, and she didn’t want that. She worked really hard on her craft, and she wanted her hard work to shine through with a neat and eye-pleasing display.
She was so engrossed in her duties, that she didn’t even notice the bell chime ring as the door opened, letting a customer in before hours. She was currently focused on getting out a broom that got stuck between two racks, and she tried her hardest to pull but the broom was jammed tight. But just then, she felt a presence from behind, and when she turned around, she was met with Anonai’s charming smirk.
“Oh, Anonai!” she said, feeling her heart flutter as his name left her lips.
“Hello love,” he smiled. “Is something wrong?”
Gwendolyn frowned, forgetting for a brief moment about the broom jammed between the racks, until it wiggled in her hands as though pleading with her to get it out, then she finally remembered.
“Y-Yes, my broom somehow managed to get stuck in here,” she complained. “And I can’t seem to take it out no matter how hard I try!”
“Hmm, I think I can help you with that,” he said.
She suddenly felt his hands pressed against her hips, and she nearly shivered.
“On the count of three, we’ll pull.” he said. “One...two...three!”
And Gwendolyn pulled with all of the strength she could muster at that moment, while Anonai pulled her back, though careful not to hurt her, but the broom was still stuck.
“Again!” said Anonai with much determination, and began the count down, pulling Gwendolyn back once he got to three.
She pulled again, this time giving it a little bit of elbow grease, until the broom was finally free. But this time she used a bit too much strength, sending her stumbling backwards, clashing into Anonai who had caught her, preventing her from falling to the ground.
Gwendolyn had closed her eyes, but when she opened them, she found herself in Anonai’s embrace, feeling the warmth of his torso pressed tightly against her back, and his arm protectively wrapped around her, broom and all.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
She wanted to reply, but her voice had completely left her throat, so she simply nodded her head in response.
“Good.” he smiled, and released her from his arms.
She wobbled to her feet, but quickly regained her balance, and realized she was still clutching onto the broom, to which she let it go and it hopped away, enjoying its newfound freedom.
Gumdrop quickly ran up to her, and nestled himself on her shoulder, sniffing her neck and hair while whimpering sadly to himself. Gwendolyn chuckled and scratched behind his ear.
“I’m okay Gummie, don’t worry.” she smiled.
“What a loyal companion you have.” Anonai mentioned.
Gwendolyn smiled bashfully, while Gumdrop glared at him, baring his small little teeth before scampering off of her shoulders.
“Yeah, he is,” she agreed. “But, thank you so much for helping me, I don’t know what I would’ve done without you!”
Anonai smiled. “I’m sure you would’ve figured something out, you’re much more clever than you think.”
“Oh please, I’m just a plain old witch who can bake.”
“You’re much more than that,” he said, and he slowly walked over to her. “You’re smart, and beautiful,”
He gently caressed her cheek, tracing her freckles with his thumb, and for a moment he looked as though he was lost. Gwendolyn felt as though all of the noise in the world stopped, except for the sound of her heart pounding hard against her chest.
“And you’re an extremely talented baker.” he added with a wink.
They remained like this for a moment, until the sound of a knock against a glass door startled the two of them. Gwendolyn turned and saw one of her regular customers, Oleander, stand outside of the bakery looking through the door, and constantly checking the opening hours list next to it.
She had completely forgotten to open her bakery, and with a gasp she ran to the door, changing the “closed” sign to “open”, and let Oleander inside.
“I’m so sorry, I was--there was--” Gwendolyn stammered, while looking back at Anonai.
“Th-That’s okay,” said Oleander, as kindly as possible. “I’m just glad you’re o-open.”
“Well, I guess I should be going.” said Anonai, as he bowed towards Gwendolyn, and headed for the door.
“Oh, wait!” she called after him. “Don’t you want something to eat, like a croissant, or--”
“I’m alright, thank you.” he smiled. “I don’t want to get in the way of your job.”
He looked over at Oleander, who was happily playing with Gumdrop at the counter.
“Oh but, please,” she begged, holding onto his hand. “It’s the least I can do to thank you for helping me.”
Anonai looked down at her hand for a moment, then back at her, and with a grin he brought her hand to his lips.
“Thank you, but I insist.” he said. “I’ll come by next time.”
Gwendolyn felt her heart sink a little, but the thought of seeing him again brought a smile to her face.
“Alright.”
With that, Anonai left the bakery, and Gwendolyn watched as he walked down the block before going back to Oleander to take his order, and as soon as she reached the counter, the bell chime rang again and another customer walked inside.

Healing Wounds
Plot: Gwendolyn sees Anonai hurt on the streets at midnight, and takes him inside her apartment to heal his wounds.
It was past midnight, the bakery was closed, and both Gwendolyn and Gumdrop were already in their beds sound asleep. Well, only one of them was. The little ferret was in a deep, profound sleep in his little bed, but Gwendolyn was still wide awake, tossing and turning.
Something was telling her to go downstairs at the bakery, but she didn’t know why. Everything was perfectly fine there, all of the food was securely placed inside the displays, and all of the alarm spells were on in case of a burglar, so there was really nothing to check. But the feeling still persisted, tormenting her like an annoying little pixie, not planning to leave any time soon.
So with a huff, Gwendolyn got up from her bed, though as quietly as possible so that she wouldn’t wake up Gumdrop. She put on her warm sleeping robe, wrapped her headscarf over her hair, grabbed a chamberstick which made the candle magically lit up, and slowly crept downstairs.
She looked around the bakery as she reached the bottom of the stairs, holding her chamberstick out to cast some light around the shop. Everything looked fine, just as she had guessed, but the feeling deep down in her gut told her to continue, so she crept even further towards the front of the bakery, until she reached the door. Nothing was out of place, just as she had guessed--again. Feeling a little frustrated that she had gone out of bed for nothing, she began to make her way back when from the corner of her eye she saw a shadowy figure loom outside around the block from across the bakery. She quickly blew out her candle and hid underneath a table nearby, but kept looking out the door as the shadowy figure grew larger and larger.
Then, following the shadow, was a tall man limped down the sidewalk, clutching to his side. He looked as though he was in much pain, and about to faint at any given moment. Gwendolyn paid close attention to the man, until she realized it was Anonai struggling to keep his ground, and without any hesitation she ran out of the bakery towards him, without even checking the road for incoming traffic (which luckily there was none).
“Anonai!” she cried as she reached him.
He looked up, startled and very confused to see her.
“Gwen…? What are you…?”
Anonai slumped to a wall before he could even finish what he had to say, and began to slide to the floor, but Gwendolyn caught him in time.
“What happened to you?!” she cried, her eyes already burning with tears.
“It’s nothing…” he whispered. “I’m okay…”
“No you’re not! You’re hurt!”
“I’m fine, Gwendolyn!” Anonai insisted, a little irritably as he glared at her. “Just, leave me alone!”
It surprised her for a moment, since she had never seen him angry before, but she brushed it aside and gave him a very stern look in return.
“I won’t!” she protested. “I’m not going to leave you like this!”
And before he could say anything, Gwendolyn grabbed him from his side, and took him to her bakery, helping him keep his balance while maintaining hers as well. It was difficult, since he was much heavier than her, but her determination took a hold of her strength, and they both made it to the bakery and up to her apartment.
As soon as they reached upstairs, Gwendolyn magically lit up all of the lights in the kitchen, as well as in the living room. She gently set him down on her couch, and quickly began to gather ingredients for a healing potion. Gumdrop had woken up from all of the ruckus, and grumbled as Gwendolyn asked him for help, but obeyed anyway.
“Gumdrop, go check on him.” she ordered, while stirring her cauldron as she made the potion. “Make sure he doesn’t fall out of consciousness.”
The little ferret scampered off to the pirate, climbing onto his chest and moving his snout near his nose once in a while, in order to make sure he was still breathing.
Gwendolyn continued to make her potion, completely focused on her work but also terribly worried about Anonai’s state. She knew this wasn’t the first time he’d been injured--he’s a pirate after all, they lead that kind of life--but never had she ever imagined to see him like this, all hurt and vulnerable. She began to wonder how many times he had almost lost his life, or how many times he had healed his own wounds without any proper care. She shook her head, as she couldn’t bear the thought any longer, and returned her attention to her work.
She finally finished her potion, and quickly sat beside him, gently propping him to sit up, and carefully placed a cup full of the potion to his lips.
“Drink this, it’ll ease the pain, and help you heal faster.” she whispered.
He drank, while being carefully assisted by her, and he grimaced and coughed as he finished, but then sighed in relief, as the pain left his body. Soon, the color finally returned to his face, and his strained breathing became steady again. Gwendolyn felt a heavy weight lift from her shoulders. He was okay.
She then got up from her seat, and began to gather some supplies to heal his open wounds--with Gumdrop’s help, of course--and as quickly as she left, she returned, ready to continue her work.
It was close to two in the morning by the time Gwendolyn finished wrapping the last piece of bandage over his torso, Gumdrop poked her with his snout, and whimpered as he looked at her with his tired little eyes.
“It is very late.” she agreed. “You can go now, Gummie, sorry to keep you up so late.”
Gumdrop beamed up at her, and scampered off to her room, eager to curl up in his little bed. She chuckled, and went back to button up Anonai’s shirt, when she stopped for a moment. For the first time since tending his wounds, she paid closer attention to the details of his torso, from the grooves of his bare chest, to the outline of his abdomen underneath the bandages.
She shook her head, feeling her whole face burn, and continued to button up his shirt.
“Saw something you liked?” Anonai teased.
Gwendolyn gasped. “You’re awake?”
“I was always awake.”
“You were slipping in and out of consciousness.” she corrected him.
“Well, I’m awake now.”
Anonai began to lift himself up from the couch, but winced and slid back down.
“What are you doing?!” she cried.
“I have to go,” he said.
“But you can’t, you need to rest!”
“I don’t want to bother you anymore.”
“You’re not bothering me.”
They looked at each other for a moment, before Anonai smirked and made himself comfortable on Gwendolyn's couch.
“Okay, nurse.” he winked.
She chuckled as she got up from her seat, and pulled up an armchair nearby, making herself comfortable as they looked across from each other.
“Thank you.” he spoke softly.
“You’re welcome.” she mouthed, smiling.
And the two of them fell fast asleep, but when Gwendolyn woke up in the morning, he was gone, only leaving behind a thank-you note on top of the kitchen counter. Gwendolyn sadly smiled to herself, and made her way downstairs to open up her bakery.
