Found a fic with one of my favorite non-dark!fic tropes. Two people, trapped together in a potentially life-threatening situation where you just know they're going to have to Talk About It™

🥐Croissant: pass it forward. Describe a WIP from the writeblr community you love. What’s it about? Make us all want to read it!
🍞Bread: Tell me about a book idea that intimidates/scares you. What makes it more difficult than other WIPs? And what are you waiting for? (Yes, that was peer pressure ;) )
Thanks! :D

Hurricane by @akindofmagictoo. It has pirates! And I love Aella and Theo :D

The Dickens-inspired WIP I mentioned a while ago. Here's the current plot summary/outline:
A teacher finds a corpse in his car. Two of his friends help him dispose of it. But someone saw them and is blackmailing them.
An author moves to a new town to research her latest book. Her sister comes to visit, then mysteriously disappears.
A literary agent has to cope with single fatherhood, an author who won’t finish her latest book, and an unwelcome visitor.
An elderly woman invites her son to dinner then reveals she’s leaving all her money to a half-sister he never knew existed.
All of these things are connected.
It shouldn't actually intimidate me as much as it does because I've written WIPs with lots of characters and murder mystery WIPs before. I've just never deliberately created so many seemingly-unrelated characters then tried to connect their stories before.

Hey Ren!
Here's a fun one today. Do you have Writeblrs you would recommend? Especially for your December Challenge.
Here's a challenge for you! Hit me up with at least 10 or 11 that would be willing to have me read them for this challenge 😤 [take your time of course I know this might take a hot minute. feel free to include as few or as many Writeblrs as you want!]
I ofc love fantasy and romance but anyone you recommend I will enthusiastically check out (;
@bloodlessheirbyjacques ✨📘👓📚
Hey, Jacques ^^ Here's my recommendation list -
@writingonesdreams, as you well know, is a fantastic writer. I'll always scream praises for Dreams' comforting style and complex characters. Absolutely love the Tears of Iron cast and the snippets I've been able to read.
@queerlilchinchin changes projects frequently, but she always has something cool cooking in the fire. If you like fantasy and crazy creatures, I'd recommend hunting down her Fantastical World of Dreams project. I'm not sure if she's transferred all of the chapters to the new blog, though, so you might need to ask her about it.
@vermontwrites Severally underrated writer, seriously. They work with a lot of different genres from sci-fi, to historical fiction, to fantasy, and they are one of the very best writers at balancing beautiful descriptions with pacing that I've had the pleasure of reading. Some of those descriptions still live rent free in my head even though it's been more than a year since I read the story.
Like queer romance in your fantasy? @writeblrfantasy is an amazing writer who has snippets from tons of fantastic WIPs. High fantasy and Dark Fantasy elements are on point, characters are beautiful and complex, and Lila knows how to play my heartstrings like a freaken violin. She also does this cool thing with her scenes where it'll start with one emotion and then end at a completely different emotion and it is effortless and never really jarring. I can keep rambling, but we've got more writers to cover.
@sleepyowlwrites Another really versatile writer whose done various genres, but I'm particularly fond of Dirt in the Doing, a modern story that's about platonic bonds and complex character dynamics and tragic backstories. Her poetry is also amazing and fantastic. I seriously love it and every time I see Sleepy-friend has written a new one it makes me very happy.
@notwritinganyflufftoday has recently come back from her hiatus. Very good with writing emotions and distinct character voices. I distinctly remember crying at some ungodly hour of the morning over a snippet from a project she was working on where the story was about the people the chosen one left behind while heading out on a quest and was told entirely through letters. It was so, so good.
I haven't seen her around as much, but @austrohungarianwriteblr has a very fun, very quirky historical romance story that's about a noblewoman and her very introverted music teacher falling in love. Her writing style is very fun, very energetic, and I love the characters.
@hyba is one of my oldest mutuals and has several awesome projects going on. Very versatile as far as setting goes, working in everything from fantasy to sci-fi to modern era, but she's primarily a suspense writer. My favorite projects of hers are The Pirates of Sissa, a fantasy setting with complex politics, and A Cure for Happiness which is a fun and quirky high fantasy story where people are dying of being too happy.
While I unfortunately haven't had the chance to dig into his writing itself, @magic-is-something-we-create has some pretty freaken epic world building going on in his fantasy series. Like, if it's even half as good in the writing as it is in his little world building introduction posts it is an incredible world. I'm planning on digging into his archive and hunting down whatever snippets and excerpts I can find when I get the spoons and free time to do so.
I've read a few pieces by @perasperaadastrawriting and @dragon-swords-prophecies and they've both got some promising fantasy stories in the making.
I can't very well tell you to read your own writing, that'd be considered cheating for the challenge ;p
Unfortunately, that's the end of my recommendations. There were more I wanted to whole-heartedly recommend, but it seems that they've left tumblr. I wondered why my dash was feeling empty and I hadn't heard about some of my favorite projects in awhile :/
Have a nice day/evening.

I made a Blogger blog –again.
This is attempt 2 at making a blog on Spanish about my writing and the likes. Please ignore that the blog's name is in English tho.
And what better way to start it than with a review!! And what better book to do a review for than A Rival Most Vial by @ashen-crest!!!!
Thanks to being a ARC reader I've read and now written my review for it! It should be already up on Goodreads if I did it correctly (I just made an account today😅) and because I had a lot of things to say and I wanted to be more thorough with it, I've written an extended version for it on my blogger. It's on Spanish, but the site should let you translate it to English -again, if I did it correctly.
If you wanna read the extended review, you can check it out here.
Anyways, ashen, what a great book you wrote. I'll be waiting for it to be released so that I can finally yell about my favorite moments xD

Hi! thanks for reblogging!
Judging by your posts I think you would like Kieran!
Kieran is a support character in Released. He's 21, quite sickly to look at, and has the power to control plants. He can make them grow, take their life from them, and use them as a way to see beyond his immediate vicinity - he can talk to them.
His powers are incredibly draining and overwhelming for him so he very rarely goes beyond the gardens outside of his apartment block, gardens that he tends to and essentially created/designed. There's only so much control Kieran can have over his powers, because he's like a battery to the plants and they all clamour for his attention.
He's quite fanciful, but prone to dramatic mood swings between hyper and depressed. Overall though, he's sweet, empathetic and gentle-hearted.
I mean, who's not prone to dramatic mood swings !!
Does he basically see through the "eyes" of a plant?
You're right, I do like him ! I hope he's not too lonely if he can't go very far from his home. Does he have friends/family/lovers in his apartment block?

Bloodless Heir x Tears of Iron AU Part 2
Here you go @bloodlessheirbyjacques 🤗 I hope I did them justice. Really improvising a lot with the lines 🤣.
First part here.
It was striking midnight, the sky still somehow alight with the barely passed sunset. Skye still felt chill in the air, though that might have had more to do with the atmosphere of the room.
Zephyr called them, expression drawn and serious and asked them to meet these people he couldn’t trust for a rumour they all yearned to be true. That was a dangerous combination.
“Are you sure, it was Elijah, the exiled prince?” Leander asked for the upteenth time.
Zephyr ignored him, leaning against the table, arms crossed. He was wearing a simple but fresh black shirt and that was about all the thought he was willing to put into his clothes. Leander always chastised him about it, cause “clothes are a communication too” but he hated it. She didn’t have the same luxury with her position in the Senate, and opted for a white robe with a spiraly golden cloak.
Leander wore his favourite wine red silk of course.
“Don’t tell them their names and it will be fine,” Zephyr murmured. His expression was schooled and calm now, but his jaw was set too tight.
“Names? They will know our faces and they know where you live, mate. At best they’re imposters and cheaters and at worse they work for the crown and it’s a trap. I say, if this goes wrong, we better kill them.”
“Leander!” Skye cried out.
“What? Best chance we have for survival. Greater cause all nice and good, but we have to take care of each other first.”
That’s probably why Zephyr called the two of them for the meeting. He trusted them the most to fight their way out of this. Leander was a top tier fighter with military training right from his dad and Skye was very proficient with her fire magic and precise imaginative ways to use it. She had her rings and bracelets on for a boost if needed and Leander had his long sword at the hip that would scare most people just by looking at it.
Zephyr could fight anybody barehanded if needed to be.
She just couldn’t imagine what a true heir of Pyria could look like. She believed in Ezekiel and Illyera, in their forbidden marriage against fate and the gods’ will, in the union of magics and cultures. A belief that had no place in this world, a burning flame she choked on every time she had to smother it inside herself.
She was proud of their continuous pain. They were all choking with every breath, their throats burned and raspy, but it was better than letting their flames go out in apathy of their helplessness.
The door opened and three cloaked figures stepped into the bar.
Zephyr tensed and Skye and Leander both stepped closer to him from each side. Whoever this cheater was, he got Zephyr rattled and that worried her.
The high and broad-shouldered man looked older, but he was the only one to keep his face shadowed by the hood.
The man in the centre greeted them with a smirk, as if it was his fashion to come late, brown hair and clothes too styled and groomed for a thief. There was something predatory about his step, so assured and graceful.
Her attention was brought to the only girl though, her curly dark hair spilling from under her hood as she looked around the room. Skye gasped quietly. Her eyes were a bright red colour.
“Well, glad you came tonight, though you could have brought more people to the party,” supposedly Elijah smiled. Skye directed her eyes at him instead, trying to recognize the boy prince in this dangerous man.
“Mind telling me the names of your companions? What a lovely lady you have here,” Elijah continued, grinning in her direction like a man used to getting what he wants.
He was met only with dead silence. Zephyr leaned back against the table, staring angrily.
“Not in a good mood I see.”
Leander barked out a laugh. “Good mood? Are you hearing yourself? You better start taking this seriously and show us some proof or else.” Leander pointedly smoothed over the hilt of his sword.
Elijah raised his eyebrows in mock surprise. “Or else what? You couldn’t take me on in your wildest dreams and I’m not even alone today.”
“That’s hilarious coming from an imposter begging for our help-”
“Who is begging, you arrogant piece of-”
“Alright, calm down,” Zephyr’s voice cut through them both. It was quiet but striking. “This squabbling won’t get us anywhere. Where is the heir, Elijah?”
He didn’t use any honorifics, not accepting any authority or the standing he should be getting by right of that name.
“If there is one,” Leander murmured, but Zephyr glared him into averting his gaze.
“The heir is right here,” Elijah gestured to the red-eyed girl. “Let me introduce you to Astrea, daughter of late King Ezekiel of Pyria and Queen Illyera, the only rightful heir to the throne.”
The large man in the hood moved unrestfully towards her, like he didn’t like her name spoken aloud.
The moment seemed important, as the girl, Astrea, returned their gaze without flinching, until Leander ruined it.
“Pfff, oh please. So she looks a bit like Ezekiel, big deal. You could have gotten a girl like that anywhere.”
Elijah made a move as if he wanted to throw himself at Leander and smother him, when the big silent man dragged him back by the shoulder. An intense eye communication passed between them.
Then the man slowly took his hood off.
“Astrea is Ezekiel’s daughter. I, Rondar, guarantee it.”
Rondar? The Rondar?!
Skye has never seen Leander positively out of words like that. He was looking at the man as if his personal hero just climbed down from a painting. Ezekiel’s guard and closest advisor, the famous hero of Pyria.
Wow. Skye felt a shiver run up her spine. Maybe this really was a big deal.
Leander opened his mouth then closed it and stepped back, bumping against the table.
Zephyr cleared his throat. “It’s an honour to meet you, my lord-”
“Oh but he is a lord for you now-” Elijah grumbled.
“-but that doesn’t answer my question. Is she a true heir? Pyria can’t be inherited, after all. Leaders have to prove themselves. Can she measure up against the Usurper? Can she free Pyria and lead into the future? What does she know? Is she ready?”
“I have no arguments, if it’s you. But I have people, fighters, fire mages, willing to stake everything and I can’t just promise their support, their help, their flames to someone I don’t know.” Zephyr pointed at Rondar with his chin, his crossed arms holding him together. “Why should it be her?”
Rondar and Elijah both took breaths to speak, but Astrea stepped forward, hands rising, silencing them both.
Flames erupted from her outstretched hands, a blaze of colour and heat.
Everyone backened away instinctively, for summoning such mass of fire in a heartbeat was an amazing feat…and she held it under control. The fire didn’t attack, didn’t catch, it rose to the high ceiling and then danced in a circle, casting huge shadows on the walls. The trio watched, mesmeriazed at the display.
“It proves you are a good leader, Zephyr,” Astrea’s voice carried in the stunned silence, “for you care for your friends. You gathered them, trained them and protect them. I admire you for it.”
The flames flickered and connected in the fire circle then slowly shrank in size. A red flower now bloomed above her hands, a perfect copy of the big circle from before.
“I have this power, you see. I’m not asking you to fight for me. I’m asking if you would let me fight for you.”
Zephyr had no answer for that, which was rare. They were all still blinking from the show, slowly gathering themselves. The boys exchanged measured looks with each other, shaken from the display.
Skye couldn’t bear it any longer.
“Can you do any other magic?” the blonde girl asked, hands shaking from excitement. Real deal, real deal, real deal!
Astrea’s face looked girlsih all of sudden, as she let surprise spill over her face.
“Yes. I can also use the Oracean royal magic-”
“Of the soul?”
“Yes,” Astrea was smiling now. “How do you know?”
“Magic types are my passion,” Skye admitted, stepping closer. She felt her boys tensing behind her, but they didn’t mutter a word so she continued towards the invisible line in the middle. “Any other magic you can use?”
Astea mirrored her movement, drawing closer. “Truly, how have you figured? Yes, I can also use a combination of both.”
“A new kind of magic?”
“Soulfire magic.”
“Could you show me?”
“I don’t think it’s reasonable-” Zephyr protested behind her. She knew what was going on. They dared, they asked and they got an answer way more powerful than they expected. That show of flames was something they would need at least a dozen of people to muster. This wasn’t something a normal fire mage should be capable of.
They were scared. But she wouldn’t let their fear cloud their judgment of this opportunity.
Astrea looked surprised by the suggestion as well and then grinned. “Glad to.” She stretched out her hands in the void between them. “May I?”
And Skye took her hands in hers, clutching them tightly.
She felt the presence, like a warm gentle hand touching her mind. A firework of light, a connection of souls, whatever it was it felt familiar and new, strong and earnest. She saw flashes of herself and of the girl she never met, and it was like her doubts and fears turned to clouds and vaporised.
When she opened her eyes again, her mind felt cleared, calm, strengthened. It was like being healed. It felt like seeing Astrea just a little bit better.
“You are beautiful.” She said without thinking, because that was how she felt, like the world just snapped back into focus and hope burned inside her and wanted to be let out.
Astrea blushed furiously, like that was a scandalous thing to say. How cute. The blond girl clutched their joined hands to her chest.
“My name is Skye. I’m a member of the Senate as a diplomat for foreign affairs.”
She turned promptly to glance at her companions. She has made her decision, settled on her choice. They looked stunned, a theme of the evening it seemed. Leander shrugged. Zephyr nodded.
“The mouthy one is Leander, son of an important noble family in Pyria. He supports us especially financially, though he is a great fighter, like his father.”
“Zephyr, you already know. A barkeeper by day, a rebellion leader by night, he created this place so young troubled youth would have a place to properly train their magic, release their emotions and gather into something formidable.”
Skye hoped this reached her. Their names, their roles, their dreams, she was serving them on a silver platter on a hunch and feeling.
“Looks like we have been waiting for you.”

i have. thoughts. about cyrus and fletcher.
they loved eachother but not quite enough to change for eachother. cyrus didn't love fletcher enough to excuse his actions. and fletcher didn't love cyrus enough to be a better person. so all they could do was just hope that maybe, maybe the other would change. all they could do was think that maybe in another life things could've worked out differently.

Want to give a massive shout-out to @arrhythmiacomic for being like, my favourite artist.
Honestly their interpretation of my Angel characters is the way I see them in my mind now, and they are amazing.
I also want to shout out their awesome webcomic arrhythmia! I'm gripped with this third chapter to be honest. Rey and Felix working together in like a mix of chaos and order is hugely entertaining. There's over 300 pages of the comic available to date, so there's a good starting point for anyone who wants a start!

Sending this ask because I wanna give you more info on my WIP as you seem interested. It's about the case of Mr Eben Byers (if you decide to search his name, please take note that a few images may be upsetting/mildly disturbing) and how his death changed the way we looked at radium and it sparked the revolution in where it then became banned. Sadly, it was his death that changed the minds of many, not the deaths of the Radium Girls, which Samson's sister was one of. By the way, Eben is the only "character" in the story based on a real life person. (Btw this is my main- from vermontwrites)
The radium girls was a very sad event in history, and I had a feeling that that was apart of the idea as I read the snippet, though I hadn’t heard of Eben Byers before. It’s very interesting to see you working with historical events ^^ I hope that the project goes well for you <3 If that snippet is any indicator, I think you’re doing a good job with it.
