Meaning fics I’ve read more than once? I don’t think I’ve ever made one—let me see what I can do.

Danger I Can’t Hide by CelticSky (E, 227K) This one’s got all the tension and drama you’d expect of a World War II story—life and death high stakes, friends and lovers unexpectedly torn apart, battles and heroism, plus the added stakes of classism and homophobia—then add a slow burn, high risk, scorching love affair spanning years. If you want a story that’s complex and fantastically researched, plus lovers to root for, read it. It’s long. But I couldn’t put it down. When I did, I immediately picked it right back up and read it twice more.

Hats Off To My Distant Hope by orphan_account (E, 21K) This was such a pleasure to read. The writing feels so effortless as the fic explores the deep emotions of these two characters. They’re stubborn and inarticulate and gentle and passionate and finally, finally open up to each other. I really wish I knew who wrote it because I’d love to read more of their work.

Walk That Mile by purpledaisy (E, 150K) I’ve read this one multiple times and still love it. Their bickering is so realistic, their resistance to their attraction to each other is perfect, the way the author portrays all of their weird quirks and differences but still makes it believable that they’d fall fo reach other is such fun to read….I love this fic.

my heart is breathing for this moment in time by usedtothebeach (E, 160K) Probably my absolute favorite time travel fic. I’ve read it more times than I’d like to admit, and every time I love it more. One of the things I like most is how organically the author weaves in canon events…every little moment is an easter egg without it being so obvious that it pulls you out of the fic. Anyway, this one is so moving and so absorbing, I hope you like it if you give it a try! There’s an 18K companion piece to it as well, but you’ll see the link at the appropriate time when you’re reading the main fic (and when you read the scene that breaks your heart –– in the best possible way –– come and scream at me. You’ll know which one I mean).

Our Lives, Non Fiction by @indiaalphawhiskey (E, 114K) this is, quite literally, the best fic I’ve read in years. It’s so well written, clever, funny, emotional, and sexy. Its draw you in immediately and you’ll end up falling in love with these characters before you know it. Don’t miss this one.

Never Never Never Stop for Anyone (Sheylinsonverse) by aimmyarrowshigh, spibsy (E, 10-work series, 439K)Yes, here I am again, putting this series on a list. Probably 10 people in this fandom like it as much as I do, but I don’t care. I have read all 440K words more than once, and will likely do it a few more times. Yes, it needs editing, but even so…really well written, super sexy (if you like reading BDSM and can handle Larry + someone else), and such interesting character development. One of my favorite things about this fic is how the authors differentiate between the ways the different characters inhabit their Dom and Sub personalities.

Make Your Words A Weapon by HelloAmHere (E, 36K) I love everything this author writes. This one just really hit me hard for whatever reason. Maybe it’s the way they explore Louis’ anxiety and coping mechanisms and pain and the way he pushes people away and protects himself, but also wants someone to push back just a bit and love him despite all of that. And the way Harry is the perfect foil for all of it, while also feeling like a fully developed character himself. Yeah, it’s probably all of that. Plus soul marks!

Pull Me Under by zarah5 (E, 140K) One of the very first fics I read when I came into this fandom…and I’ve read it multiple times since. Zarah’s fics hold up every time. This one has it all, great pacing, ot5 friendship, banter, super sexy smut, etc etc. Plus, Louis being super jealous of Harry’s best friend.

Into The Blue by zarah5 (E, 117K) honestly, I love all of this author’s fics, but I think this is my favorite of theirs. Louis as a flirty scuba instructor? Newly single Harry who just wants a fling? Boys living on other sides of the world who only have a few weeks together? Heartbreak. Hot af smut. OT5 friendship. Please….give me all that shit.

Faking It by TheCellarDoor (M, 46K)This one is so sweet. I loved Harry's internal monologue... his insecurities and thoughts that he'd made Louis uncomfortable because he liked, him made me cry. Louis is so soft and supportive. It’s just a lovely fic.

Remind Me Again by momentofclarity / @gaycousinlarry (E, 29K) Every sentence in this fic is so effortlessly beautiful. I love that the miscommunication between them is done in a totally realistic way. The fight and make up like real people do and that makes the angst more painful and the making up more emotional. One of my favorite authors.

And Touch Me Like You Never by runaway_train (E, 36K) I really enjoyed how this author handled Harry’s confusion and growing attraction and eventual sexuality crisis. That, along with the angst and very sexy smut, made it a really good read.

may we all have a vision now and then by momentofclarity / @gaycousinlarry (M, 4K) This author is one of my favorite writers in this fandom and everything they do is infused with so much delicacy and tenderness. I literally cried through this fic because of how wounded Harry’s character feels. Read it and then treat yourself to their whole AO3 catalogue.

Seeing Blind by zedi (E, 47K) I really liked the way this author gave a twist to both Omega Harry and Alpha Louis’ characteristics. It’s a whole lot of smut and miscommunication and, of course, a happy ending.

Shake Me Down by AGreatPerhaps12 (NR, 209K) this fic will run you through the wringer, but it’s really a great read. I really like the way the author took the boys from enemies to friends to boyfriends, and how we got to see how protective and supportive Louis became towards Harry.

smell the sea, feel the sky by @lightwoodsmagic (E, 16K) This is the perfect summer pining fic. I love that they’re adults and still the same horny, pining fools for each other and it still works. It’s just very sexy, light, and fun.

we can take the long road home by @pinkcords (E, 46K) This was absolutely gorgeous. And it made me cry, damn it. Seriously though, the writing is so beautiful. I loved the characterizations and the way they both showed their vulnerability. I loved the slow pace and the hot smut. I loved this fic.

smile in slow motion by istajmaal (E, 24K) One of my favorite Daddy kink authors, this one is lighthearted and funny while also being super sexy. Plus it’s got great Zouis friendship.

all my love was down on a frozen ground by navigator (E, 16K) This is an old one that I didn’t have bookmarked for some reason. But it’s a favorite and I love everything this author wrote. This is one of those quiet, soft fics with a bit of angst and a lot of internal monologue and gentle conversations. I don’t know, there’s something so touching about it.

Thought The Song Was Sung by 100percentsassy (E, 13K) This is both a famous/not famous and a dating app AU. Plus, older Larry. Plus an author who writes great fic. And this one is just sweet and charming and I really like this one.

the way the storms blow by rbbsbb (E, 22K) What would happen if you walked in on your best friend in the midst of an orgy? Louis finds out and it’s pretty damn hot.

we can take the long way home by eleadore (E, 27K) this one is a canon divergent future fic where Louis is a “carrier” (basically, he would be able to get pregnant) and it’s just SO good. It’s beautifully written (like everything this author does), so well-paced, and I just find the way their developing relationship is written to be so touching and realistic.

The light to guide me home by Star_Henderson / @tommosgun (E, 65K) I don’t know what it is about this fic but I’ve read it so many times and I just really love the instant chemistry, the smut is stupid hot and fuels the character growth, and even with the angst, the whole thing is just lighthearted and sexy.

Speaking of Marvels by navigator, quitter (E, 101K) This was one of the first fics I read in this fandom, but I read it again recently and had forgotten how really wonderful it is. The writing is so lovely and the characters feel so well developed. I especially loved how the authors explored how differently the two of them would respond to their relationship given the different stages of life they were in. It made the romance and the attraction and the angst feel really real.

Constant Debauchery by Blake (E, 19K) Yes, yes, I know. I’ve probably recommended this 10 times. But have you read it yet? Anyway…Edwardian setting, uni ABO (Alpha/Alpha) fic. Gorgeous mood setting, I’ve said before that it reads like an Merchant Ivory film looks…just gorgeous. There’s a similar sense of repression and uncertainty about flouting societal expectations, and a character who appears one way on the surface, but underneath is quite different. I love this one, I’ve read it a number of times.

Lightening Strikes Twice by @dinosaursmate (E, 106K) It’s not often that I read a 100+K fic multiple times, but this one is worth it. It’s one of my favorites from this author, and a favorite all around. It’s an epic love story spanning decades and massive life changes. It’s sexy and well-written, and so touching, and so fulfilling in many ways.

precious little thing by mercutionnotromeo (E, 21K) I’ve read this one so many times…it’s got it all. This time the phone sex operator is Louis, and subby Harry is just beginning to realize his daddy kink.

Good Enough to Eat by objectlesson (E, 7K) This author always does such a good job with depicting young, queer love and the way their characters experience the overwhelm of realizing they’re not straight, realizing the’ve met their Person, pining, and giving in. I love a lot of their fics, but I think this is my favorite of them. Link is to a download.

One day to believe in you by mediaville (E, 8K) another author who always hits it out of the park as far as I’m concerned. This one is super funny and then super sexy. Louis gets cursed and has to tell the truth. No matter what Harry asks him. Read it!

like a bastard on a burning sea by vashtaneradas (NR, 21K) Heartbreaking, perfect writing. So well-written that the fandom hated real-life Harry for a while after this was posted. 😅

These Roads We Stumble Down by onewasturning (E, 18K) I adore this author’s writing and I’ve read this particular one multiple times. It’s just a little melancholy and very sexy and one of those fics that reminds me why I can read about the same two people falling in love 46372 times and never tire of it.

Empty Skies by green_feelings / @greenfeelings (E, 13K) I just started re-reading this the other day and it holds up so well. This author is always a pleasure to read. Their fics just are well plotted and the characters are nicely fleshed out. I loved Perrie as Harry’s bestie, the bitterness and angst is PAINFUL, and the ending feels well earned.

Wild and Unruly by 100percentsassy, gloria_andrews (E, 124K) One of the OG classics in this fandom. If you haven’t read it yet, you’re missing out. It’s just a great, original story. Plus, cowboy Harry, city boy Louis, bad guys to hate, nail biting drama, hot af sexual chemistry and smut, and a super satisfying ending.

Love Is A Rebellious Bird by 100percentsassy, gloria_andrews (E, 135K) Everything about this fic is glorious. I’m always struck by how well the characters are fleshed out, how their behavior lines up with their backstory, how ridiculously hot the chemistry is, and how agonizing the angst is. So yes, no shocker, I cried buckets. Thank god for a happy ending.

Unbelievers by isthatyoularry (E, 137K) High school Au, footie, enemies with benefits, so much sexual tension (and just tension), and really well-developed, complex characters. Most of the conflict in this (and in the companion fic from Harry’s POV) is straight up lack of communication. But, given the age of the characters, it’s forgivable (although sometimes frustrating).

In Dreams by dolce_piccante (M, 24K) This actually might be my favorite of this author’s fics, although I know it’s definitely not the most popular. It’s just soft and romantic and sweet and I’m a sucker for tattoo artist Louis winning over slightly uptight Harry.

Your Name Is Tattooed On My Heart my mcpofife (E, 87K) I reread this one recently and it's truly delightful. The characterizations are so well done. Harry is so endearing (I cried over his heartbreak). And the smut is both hot and really emotional. Love this one.

Taehyun was probably the one person you knew better than yourself, you spent more time with him than your own parents. growing up together had its advantages, he always had your back no matter what. even when he got ridiculously popular during late middle school-early freshman year, he never forgot about you, how could you not fall? you had trouble figuring out if he was flirting or just being friendly, you seriously couldn’t tell. that was until a summer night before sophomore year..

“i really like you, a lot, not as a friend but you know?”

you almost screamed at that moment, thankful to know that it wasn’t one-sided.

unfortunately as the weeks and months went on, you noticed how much you didn’t act like a couple. yes surely you’ve kissed, but nothing more than a peck and would only hold hands occasionally. nothing changed from your friendship to your ‘romantic relationship’ just the title.

Taehyun noticed as well, that’s when during January he decided to have a talk with you regarding what y’all really where. you both decided to stay off as friends instead since it clearly wasn’t meant to be more than that. you hold nothing but brotherly love towards him still. you were sure of that when you saw him get a girlfriend and felt nothing but happiness for him and so did he when you did.

“you’ve never done this before?”

Yeonjun was a heck of an experience. he was the school’s basketball captain which also meant he had girls at his feet, swooning over him, yet he saw you. it wasn’t out of nowhere of course. over the summer you definitely grew into your face a bit and had a puberty bloom so going into junior year, you were pretty popular as well. destiny put the two of you in the same physics class and it started from there. he sat next to you and somehow always made a conversation with you, it escalated week by week, next thing you know he’s asking you out on a date. obviously you say yes.

he was your first REAL relationship. he made experience everything (if you know what i mean) although you’ve been worried about losing your virginity and feeling ashamed of it, Yeonjun made it as special as it could’ve been. y’all dated for the whole year. since he was a year older than you, he graduated high school. the two of you really wanted to keep dating ‘long distance’ but we all know how that’s pretty much a slow breakup. it didn’t help the fact that he went so far away. he was also surrounded by college girls, even if he denied it, you knew there was definitely a couple of kisses stolen from his friend’s instagram stories. it didn’t take much for the both of you to end it keeping in ‘good terms’.

“you sure you hate me?“

Beomgyu was the last person you’d taught you’d even think about dating. after taking a year to focus on yourself, the moment you got to college you were met with a crazy long-haired boy, bumping into you. he didn’t even say sorry or anything which was already enough to dislike him.

later you found out he was in a rock band, how ‘surprising’. you found this out when your roommate invited you to go with her to one of their gigs since her boyfriend was the lead singer she had extra tickets. you, not knowing he would be there, agreed since you needed to have some fun. your excitement was drained when you saw him playing the electric guitar and he was good, which made you more annoyed.

your roommate invited you to parties and he was always there, he noticed you the first time, after noticing your coldness, he kept bugging you day after day, trying to make you laugh once. the way he pushed your buttons made it almost impossible to not answer back. it became a love-hate friendship in a way? more hate than love. you clearly don’t despise him but you don’t like him at the same time. it wasn’t until during an argument, to shut you up, he smashed his lips into yours and you didn’t hate it? needless to say you both started dating shortly after.

unfortunately you can never enjoy things too much since he got signed with a company and decided to focus on his career and dropping out of university, in no way were you going to try long distance again so the only choice was to break up. you listen to his band’s music from time to time when you’re sad.

“my sister has good taste in friends”

HueningKai was perfect for you. one summer during junior year of college, your roommate , Lea, invited you to a vacation with her family, since you weren’t doing anything during the summer so why not? that’s where you met him. Lea’s younger brother wasn’t…bad looking. you didn’t start immediately dating, in fact y’all started off as friends, very good friends. both of you had a lot in common, some things you never seen someone also like. after the vacation you hung out at their home most of the time.

the both of you didn’t feel any romantic feelings until that one night. it was his 20th birthday and you two somehow ended up ‘accidentally kissing’. you guess you were just really excited for him and ended up kissing him. from there it kind of became awkward. you didn’t know if you should bring it up or just forget about it and pretend it didn’t happen. eventually he brought it up which ended up in a confession. you hesitantly accepted , you liked him but not to such point.

you loved him. yes you did. being with him for two years, making it your longest relationship, he made you love him, so much. he had this other part of him, the crazy one, which you adapted to love. he was like beomgyu but way softer.

this can’t be a happy ending right ? of course not. you got a job opportunity outside of the city and you would be dumb to not take it. once again you went through another break up. we decided to stay as friends and hang out form time to time, meaning once a year.

“i really like you”

Soobin was the love of your life. after three years of being single, you were craving love, wanting someone to be with and just love you, yeah you had your friends but it wasn’t the same. your best friend and coworker noticed this and decided to have a night out and go to the club, you didn’t budge and agreed since you actually needed it, at least to get laid.

you met this jaw dropping handsome guy, which didn’t seems like a club type of person since he looked really reserved wi to himself so for the first time, you started the conversation, thankfully he wasn’t creeped out or anything and continued ending up in exchanging phone numbers. soon you found out who he was, the son of one of the richest man in the country. you were surprised since Soobin was very humble and down-to-earth. you didn’t treat him differently though, knowing he’d probably hate that.

y’all started to go out to different places except his house since he mentioned how his dad was. after a couple of months he asked you out which you obviously said yes to, unknown to his dad but unfortunately he eventually found out and was against it since you weren’t “high class” . Soobin rebelled against this and still found a way to meet up with you one way or another. until one night.

he came with his head down dried tears down his cheeks. you were very confused, his next words explained everything though.

his dad had arranged a marriage with another woman.

your heart crumbled. his dad was too powerful to say no to you understood, but you still spent the next few days sobbing into your pillow. the marriage happened way too soon as well, it was all over the news, now making it impossible to watch television.

you can never have a happily ever after can’t you?

pairing ot5 x gn! reader. genre mostly angst, some fluff. warning toxic relationships. author’s note this is not a reflection of the real txt. it’s purely fiction, i just liked the idea.

yeonjun, the hardest breakup ★

true love, or at least that’s what you called it. he wasn’t your first love, nor was he your most recent, but he was always in the corner of your mind. you always stayed in touch, the friendship you promised each other occasionally went stale whenever either of you fell in love with somebody else, but he was always there. on every social media, in your contacts, and your camera roll, and sometimes on the other half of the bed. a part of you would always love yeonjun, maybe because he was your soulmate or maybe because nobody else could ever offer you what he was able to. the breakup had sent you spiralling at the time. you were a mess of trying to find a version of yourself that was satisfactory enough to fill the void left behind. it angered you that it couldn’t work, you really wished it could. and as much as you wished you could just take him back, you knew it would hurt more than to move on.

he told you he loved you more than anyone else in his life. you both worked harder than ever to spend time together, to make agreed decisions, to balance life with each other. in the end, it became exhausting. relationships need more than love to work, like a car needs fuel but it won’t just drive smoothly if nobody is steering it. he loved you hard, but he couldn’t communicate that love in the way you needed. it was hard to talk things out with him, everything turned into a fight because it was all emotion and no rationale. if only the fuel was enough to allow the car to navigate steep roads and sharp turns, maybe it wouldn’t be this way. maybe you wouldn’t drop new partners after a few months because they just didn’t love you as hard as yeonjun had. maybe you wouldn’t spend every waking second talking to him, making plans with him, inviting him over and doing every other thing that points to a relationship without ever putting a label on it. maybe, or maybe you were just too afraid to let go.

soobin, simply passing through ★

you’d heard a lot about the second-love phenomenon, but you stopped believing it after you fell for someone who ruined your perception of love. and then you met soobin, and you had so much love for him. but deep down, you knew he wasn’t going to be the one. you weren’t going to get married, he wouldn’t be invited to family vacations or featured on your yearly christmas cards. he was your love of the ‘now’, back then. he made you happy and safe, you knew that you’d cherish him and your relationship for the rest of your life. it would hurt, losing him, but not too much. you’d cry, do something mildly impulsive like buying something you definitely didn’t need, and then you’d move on. and that’s exactly what happened.

it was pure bliss. an instant connection, and you both fell quite quickly. he held your hand and took you on the best kind of dates, you spent hours of the morning just cuddling and chatting between kisses. there was a peacefulness about your relationship, the comfort of walking around barefoot to find each other in the small space of your apartment. he knew your order for every fast-food place, he could read you like a book even if you tried hard to hide the feeling you were experiencing. he never had a problem with you crying on his shoulder, he’d simply hold you tight and help you heal. he fixed your view on love, and you thanked him for that. but one day, you woke up feeling stuck. it was repetitive, and you were bored of living the same day over and over knowing he’s not the one you saw in your future. and he felt the same way, he didn’t see himself ring shopping and not once did he ever mention starting a family with you. so when you drifted apart and slowly fell out of love, neither of you were too upset. there were some tears shed, you messily wiping them away with your sleeves as soobin taped up a box and tried not to wrap you up in his arms. you were forever thankful for the experience, but you weren’t going to wait around mourning a relationship destined to end. so you looked back with a smile on your face, all while searching for the one stood beside you in that christmas card photo.

beomgyu, love bomber ★

the first time you met beomgyu, he was introduced to you as ‘mr. first love’ and the ‘epitome of sweet, true, puppy love’. so you played the game, tried to be as sweet and as innocent as the love everybody had promised you — the love beomgyu had promised you. at first, it was sweet and true and you certainly felt that puppy love in the air. however, it was just the steady chain lift of a rollercoaster before the main event — the steep drop, followed by twists and turns and a couple of those loop-the-loops. he took you on sweet dates, walked you home and kissed you goodnight, spent his spending money on small gifts for you, gave you t-shirts to wear around his apartment, breakfast in bed, loving affirmations, cuddles through the night, coffee on your lunch breaks, walks in the park, kisses you would never forget. and then, you said yes to a relationship with him. and you quickly noticed the lack of him in your day-to-day life after that. he would rarely text you back, claimed he didn’t have time for you, brushed off your worries, told you he was too tired for you to stay the night, forgot about every milestone.

he wasn’t hurt or surprised when you broke it off. in fact, he was just waiting for you to break up with him first. you felt like a fool, having held tightly onto somebody who was constantly loosening their grip. you’d never made it onto his social media accounts, it was like you hadn’t even existed. in your case, you had countless photos in your snapchat memories, a number of posts and even an instagram highlight, all that you struggled to erase for weeks following the breakup. for you, it was messy and painful and you knew it would impact every future relationship. for beomgyu, you were just a pastime. there was nothing of his for you to return to him, no way for you to contact him. it had been so perfect and beautiful, and then suddenly it was nothing and only one broken heart. because beomgyu didn’t know how to love, and he refused to let anyone teach him. he’d gave up when it got hard, and he never wanted to experience that difficulty again.

heartbreaks are no joke. at first you didn’t understand, having never fallen in love. every relationship was short-lived, and there was always something missing. the something always seemed to be love, because you were never dating the right people. you didn’t even cry after the break-ups, you just got back up and went out searching for the next one. as awful as it seemed, that was the way you thought it had to be. when it came to taehyun, though, he wasn’t going to be just another one of your exes. you were sure of it at the time, that he’d be the one that stuck. but of course, life was never that fair.

taehyun’s heart had been shattered. not just broken, shattered into a million different pieces that he didn’t know how to stick back together. he was always hesitant with you, he didn’t like too much affection and always wanted space. even as the relationship matured, he was always so cold. but you were blinded by the love you had for him and his smile, that sometimes he could be sweet and that was enough. it never really was enough, because you were suffering from a heartbreak you’d never experienced. it wasn’t your fault that his trust was broken, yet you were the one being punished for it. every attempt you made to try and piece back together his heart, he would tell you he was sure he’d lost a few pieces and he wasn’t sure you’d ever be able to fix it. and it hurt too much to keep working on that puzzle, your fingers started to hurt from rubbing against the harsh cardboard. so you gave up, picked up the table with the puzzle on it and tipped it onto the floor. and just like taehyun had predicted, you went and broke his heart. even worse than the first time, because you wanted to be important to him. if he couldn’t love you enough, then you were sure to make him hate you enough. you wanted to break his heart in the way that he had broken yours.

you were a late bloomer when it came to relationships. you’d dated a few times, experienced some of the simpler firsts with people who were just wasting your time. you longed to experience love, but it never seemed to be coming around. when you tried, it always failed. and when you didn’t try, you weren’t even giving yourself a chance. so as you grew into a young adult, you began a social life that was friendship-motivated. you treated your friends like lovers, because that kind of love was as close as you were going to get. every birthday was a huge celebration, you spent many weekends drinking and clubbing with your closest friends, you even went all-out on christmas gifts. and when you met kai, it was completely by accident. you weren’t trying to meet him, the idea of relationships had been completely scratched out of your to-do list.

it was scary at first. neither of you knew what to do, just that you had love for each other. there wasn’t a single worry in the world. no competition, no chance for cheating, and definitely no break-up in sight. you didn’t even long to go out and earn more experience, you were as happy as you were going to get. nobody would ever love you like kai, and you weren’t going to give up your home for a hotel. the first love discourse sometimes worried you, but just seeing the way he excitedly ran towards you after some time apart put all those worries away. you had all of your biggest firsts with him, ranging from the first experience of love to the first time living with a romantic partner. first trip away together, first promise rings, first valentine, first romantic winter, first matching couple costumes, even all of the embarrassing firsts. but the most important part of it all, that he was going to be your first and last of everything.

New Category: Genfic!

This rec will post on Thursday, February 15th, jokingly known as "Singles Awareness Day" -- so I wanted to play with that idea by making this rec be for fics that aren't ship-focused!

Give me your friendship fics, celebrating the beauty of platonic relationships. Give me your in-depth character studies of a single person and their experiences. Give me your self-love fics, where a character is exploring their own pleasure without needing or wanting anyone else involved. Give me your family-focused fics, looking at relationships with parents or siblings. Give me your aromantic and/or asexual characters, who are single and loving it -- or still figuring themselves out and learning what that means. Give me your OT5 shenanigans, running around backstage or goofing around hotels and giving all their minders headaches.

These fics do not have to be 100% free of any mention of romantic/sexual relationships, but any such relationships should be a small part of the fic -- almost a side ship, except that there isn't a main ship to be side to (or the main is platonic rather than romantic/sexual).

♡ sᴏᴏʙɪɴ : waking up on the couch together after a movie

soobin’s not sure what wakes him—the ceiling fan above that always seems to click after its been running too long. or, maybe it’s that his brain finally recognized that the movie had ended, credits and all, and had returned to the main screen where a short snippet of song was stuck on loop. again, he’s not sure. but he is sure that he really enjoys your company, and how softly you’re sleeping against him, how perfectly you fit into his side, head tucked on his shoulder. he leans his head against yours, and as he does, he realizes something: he really likes this. likes you. oh, no. he sits up, pulling away so far you nearly fall over in your sleep, but you simply just tuck in even closer. he stares at the dvd title screen wide-eyed at this revelation. he really likes you. and he doesn’t know what to do.

♡ ʏᴇᴏɴᴊᴜɴ : but friends don’t act like that

he’s laughing into your arms, over what he can’t be sure and quite frankly doesn’t care. everything you do brings yeonjun joy. you’re laughing too, pulling him into a hug, and—and—he’s remembering what someone said, after he’d explained his friendship with you. but friends don’t act like that? he freezes, laugh falling short, and he feels you stop, limbs hovering just over him, afraid to touch or to move too far away. “is something wrong?” you ask, panic on your face. “did i do something—” “no, never,” he says. “you could never… i—” his friend’s conversation echoes again. friends don’t act like that. yeonjun can feel everything bubbling up, popping in a brilliant array of colors inside his head as he sees everything between you two in a new light. it’s what lovers do.

♡ ʙᴇᴏᴍɢʏᴜ : “you’re so pretty you make me dizzy”

even though he’s sitting down safely in a chair, beomgyu feels the room spinning around him. because of you. you’re just there, studying with your head in your book, taking notes. totally normal mundane student stuff. but when you do it? he’s head over heels and— “you’re so pretty it makes me dizzy.” panics sets in when you look up. did he just say that? you look up, and he’s scrambling to figure what to say for why he said that, when you pop out one earbud and offer him a gentle, “hm?” cold relief washes over beomgyu, and he shakes his head gesturing to the work in front of him. “just thinking out loud.” you smile, nodding, before adding, “of course. you’re cute when you do that, you know.” and then you put your earbud back in and go back to work as if nothing happened and beomgyu simply doesn’t know what to do with himself.

♡ ᴛᴀᴇʜʏᴜɴ : “you really don’t see it, do you?”

taehyun prides himself on knowing it all. he gets good grades, he can see situations before they arise, and he can think himself through a problem. so when you lean in close, far too close for his comfort because he can see everything in your eyes and catch whiffs of your perfume, he’s confused. “you really don’t see it, do you?” he frowns. his brows furrow. no, he really doesn’t. “what’s there to see?” now you’re frowning, but then your expression shifts from disappointed to mischievous, and again he doesn’t know why. “mr. know it all can’t figure something out? would you like a hint?” and he nods, because he would like to know, and maybe because your closeness is unsettling him in a way he’s not used to—in a way he’s afraid to admit he enjoys. so when you lean in even further, and press a quick, gentle kiss to his cheek before leaning back with a devilish grin on your lips. his heart is pounding and he can feel his cheeks flush, the spot you kissed still burning. “do you see it now?”

♡ ᴋᴀɪ : i love you means something more now

he remembers when you used to be taller than him, back when the both of you were very little. but then you stopped growing and he kept getting taller and taller. you still call him little kai, though, and it doesn’t bother him. just like when you end phone calls with i love you. he does it too. you’ve been doing it forever. so why all of the sudden does it feel different? like it means something more? why does your touch feel electric, and why does he crave your hugs? and the jealous feeling he gets when he sees you next to other guys? that is especially weird. and when you stand on your tiptoes to kiss on the apple of his cheek before rushing through a goodbye and an i love you and disappearing inside? the most confusing of all.
