Night Train is an album by the Oscar Peterson Trio, released in 1963 by Verve Records.
The album was dedicated to Peterson’s father, who worked as a sleeping-car attendant for Canadian Pacific Railways.
The Penguin Guide to Jazz included it in its core collection, calling it “one of the best-constructed long-players of the period” and saying that Peterson’s playing is “tight and uncharacteristically emotional”.
Oscar Emmanuel Peterson (Order of Canada, National Order of Quebec, Order of Ontario), (August 15, 1925 – December 23, 2007) was a Canadian virtuoso jazz pianist and composer. Considered one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, Peterson released more than 200 recordings, won eight Grammy Awards, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy, and received numerous other awards and honours. He played thousands of concerts worldwide in a career lasting more than 60 years. He was called the "Maharaja of the keyboard" by Duke Ellington, simply "O.P." by his friends, and informally in the jazz community as "the King of inside swing". #OscarPeterson #Jazz #Musician #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM #HansPoppeArt #Artist #Toronto #Montreal # Quebec #Canada #DigitalArt #Portraiture #OrderofCanada #NationalOrderofQuebec #OrderofOntario (at Toronto, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co8NlHIvjr3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Photos from my session at the world-famous Village Studios! What an awesome place to record. JC LeResche did an amazing job during a 12-hour session engineering 22 songs (live) and overdubs on 5 pre-existing tracks. I had the honor of being able to record on Oscar Peterson's Steinway & Sons Model B in the impressive Studio D – where Fleetwood Mac, BB King, T-Bone Burnett, Usher, and Sting have recorded (among many others) 🎹
It’s been a while since I posted a blog. This is the latest in the “Albums That Made Me” series of blogs. I first heard this album in my early teens, but it was in my late teens that it really helped shape and develop my understanding of the piano and music.
