Does anyone know what T.H. White’s deal was?

I’m currently reading The Once and Future King and while I’m enjoying the book, there are some parts that I’m confused about.

First there’s this passage… with the n-word included… The copyright is from 1939 so obviously it wasn’t that taboo at the time but I don’t understand how this is relevant for Cully (the old mad bird), it almost sounds like he’s referring to something American with the “damned administration”, does anyone know why?

Also the Macbeth references- there are at least three of them during Wart’s ideal in the mews. I assume he just wrote it to be weird and fantastical because that seems to be something he really likes to do, but it’s a little strange, especially because the number 3 is a big motif in Macbeth. I would love to hear if y’all have any ideas.

tumblr suppression

hi everybody! 👋

if you don’t already know, or hadn’t seen the post i reblogged a lil bit ago, tumblr just rolled out there new plan of labeling mature content.

lo and behold, carnation part i got flagged. it now has a mature content community tag. it’s most likely going to be drastically suppressed. wonderful. fantastic. (hint my sarcasm.)

i do want to say that i don’t disagree that my writing is mature, obviously it is— that’s why i add content warnings after all— however, with this new labeling and flagging system, my stories and future projects will all but be invisible in the tumblr algorithm. my posts most likely won’t be seen in the tags/dash/search, and i wouldn’t be surprised if my blog in general disappears from those places as well. i don’t know how deeply the suppression will affect me.

i’m also worried about the retrospective labeling that this blog, and my star wars blog, will inevitably experience. the rules are so vague that i’m not sure that if enough stories of mine get flagged and hidden, my blogs will face deletion. it’s concerning, to say the least.

that said, please please go into your settings and select ‘show’ for what type of content you want to see!!

also, i don’t normally ask this but please reblog and comment!! i adore likes just as easily, but tumblr relies on reblogs for content to get around the algorithm!!

TMAGP 10 is officially the absolute most freaked out I've been by a tma/tmagp/rusty quill podcast episode since 2019, jesus christ
