In the month that followed Nicholas’s birthday, Oriana doubled down on her research of the secret lamp that she’d kept hidden in the lab that her son didn’t know about. While Melvin had pulled back from the case to spend time with his husband, Oriana found the case to be the perfect excuse to avoid her now teenage son. Convenient timing. 

At this point, Oriana only wished to solve the murder for two reasons. One being to clear her name permanently and decisively, so that Elaine Helios had no ground to stand on anymore in her plight to ruin Oriana’s life… and also just because she was intensely curious. 

Unlike all the news reports of Abraham’s death, and all the pleasant comments of him being the pillar of the community and how no one had any idea of who would want to kill such an important member of the town, Oriana knew better. She’d loved Abraham for the man he was, but she had no fantasies that there weren’t more than a few people in town who’d hate him enough to kill him.
