For starters, op claims they've witnessed the main cell personally, but if you actually check the prison's rules, visits have been banned for several months now [x]. The prison is armed with state of the art security measures, including lava, barriers, and numerous manual searches, to name just a few [x]. Speaking as an authority on the prison myself [x], I can safely confirm that these security measures, as well as the prisoner, are in perfect condition. OOC post:
I'd like to talk about something that's been eating me.
The second set of posters included a design entitled "Seeing the Patterns", depicting a figure standing in front of a "pins and string" conspiracy board, figuring out some sort of quandary. The text on it read "Seeing the patterns? The synchronicity department needs you!"
This was intended as something I was going to talk about - the concept of "synchronicity" in the Office canon. My intent for the story was that the Office had perfected the concept of synchronicity into a reliable science, examining hidden causal links between unrelated events, such as the price of string or the winner of horse races. This would have taken the form of the stereotypical "pins and string" conspiracy board, elevating that trope into a science in the canon. The Office's synchronicity department would have been able to determine hidden meanings or even predict the future using these methods.
It was pointed out to me that while this was not my intent, it has some similarities to the right-wing antisemitic meme of "noticing things", as well as possibly casting those with mental health crises like schizophrenia in a bad or stereotypical light. Neither of these were my intent, obviously, but when you play in this sort of thematic space (conspiracy theory, etc.), you do have to be careful of which tropes you use. This has, to be honest, been a source of significant anxiety for me for the past two weeks. I really like the idea of it as I had envisioned it, but right now the implications it gives are too much for me to really be comfortable with.
It's because of this that I'm withdrawing the design from my shop, for now. I may re-release it later if I can develop the idea more to my satisfaction, but for the forseeable future that design will be unavailable for purchase. I may fill its space with something else later, I have several drafts that just weren't developed, but for now I'm going to let it settle.
I've edited the second set post without that design. I know I just reblogged it yesterday or the day before, but if you're willing, I'd appreciate another reblog without that design. Hopefully that version of the post will be the dominant one.
Thanks for understanding, folks. I'll probably be quiet for a few days - like I said, this is a hard choice but a needed one, and it's been a source of anxiety for me.

I done got frustrated
My desire to keep my opinions to myself managed to last most of the day. New record tbh.
So like I wrote this big long rant a couple of weeks ago and decided against sharing it while I was still frustrated. But I do feel like maybe there is a larger discussion to be had! I think it's important that we as a writeblr community really take a look at why so many of us are getting so frustrated so often and how we as a community and as individuals can work towards an actually community vs a corner of social media. @blind-the-winds did an excellent job of explaining some of what I'm seeing as well in relation to why a lot of positivity and support posts and such ring hollow to so many of us. I wanted to bring a slightly different perspective to things coming from a marketing/social media marketing background. Under the cut out of respect for everyone's dashboards lol
This is going to get INCREDIBLY LONG. So I have a read more here. Behold, the bitchfest.
So this started today when I was chatting with an irl friend and expressing my frustrations about writeblr in general as a community. And what I've recognized now is this: writeblr isn't really much of a community, and it is very rare to find other creators and writers who are willing to treat you (the hypothetical writer) as another human being with a love for the same craft they do. Those people who do treat you like people are some of the loveliest people I've found on the internet, but they are hard to find.
Now, to be clear, I don't think the problem is completely writeblr's fault, nor do I believe it is any one or two or five hundred individual's fault. The problem comes from a number of different sources, and my friend did a great job of helping me see the problem from a number of different perspectives.
The problem being this: it is impossible to get engagement on posts that feature original long-form writing, and it is exceedingly difficult to effectively foster meaningful connections with other writers.
Some disclaimers: it's not impossible, and the people who successfully receive engagement on their long-form writing tend to be the people who are the exceptions proving the rule. Also, by "engagement" I mean any interaction that serves to both consume the content and spread the content. "Original" writing refers to writing that is not fandom related, and "long-form" means 1k words or more.
Do you think 1k words is a little short for "long-form" writing? Me too. I'll get to that.
I'll start my explanation here with what catalyzed these revelations in my little head. Over night, I got quite a few new followers, all directly coming from a post that got mildly popular here on writeblr. So, I looked at what other posts of mine have been popular, and I started to notice a trend.
My most popular posts tend to fit into one of three categories: memes, tag games, and boost posts/recommendations. Memes tend to be popular because they're funny and easy to spread, and as long as they fit the theme, they don't ruin a blog's aesthetic. Tag games get more interaction because I am directly tagging people to see the post. But the popularity for those posts tend to stop at the half dozen to a dozen people tagged in each given post (the person or people tagging me, and the several people I tag to continue the game). The last category is most interesting to me, the boost posts and recommendations.
Here's the thing, I only boost or rec other writers and blogs if I have invested interest and care into the person behind the blog and their content. AKA, I only really boost friends and writers I admire/like their content. It's great to see that those posts get popular with people outside my circle, but out of those three categories, none of them feature my own content.
Why is that?
It seems like every day I see a new post with a few thousand notes at least complaining about a lack of interaction on writeblr and the importance of reblogs and blah blah I rarely stop to read those let alone spread them. And a few dots connected, I think.
If my content isn't getting interaction, and your content isn't getting interaction, then what is? And I think the answer is this: memes, advice, and boosts.
Memes and advice are self-explanatory. But boosts are interesting because you will see everyone hop on to rec other people or more frequently market themselves, but they stop there. And I see my greatest influx of interaction and new followers when I boost other people's works or blogs.
My conclusion is that many people are using writeblr as a hustle and not a community. In a community we engage with each other, talk to each other, enjoy each other's company. And I've found many mutuals to be very lovely people who I do enjoy and who I love to engage with and who I like to genuinely call my friends. I like a lot of yall for different reasons too! Some of you are great hype buddies, some of yall are all about that accountability buddy system, and I really love when I get to have intellectual conversations about the craft and different concepts with different members of writeblr too.
But largely, I find that a lot of people who engage once with my blog, usually on those boost posts, or who ask for engagement more frequently than when frustration strikes, tend to be the people who think of writeblr as a hustle. They see that I (and many other writers) will boost and rec our friends, and jump on that bandwagon, but instead of putting in the effort to get to know us and our work, they say what needs to be said, hop on trends, and avoid any genuine connection.
So what gives?
It's not the individual writers, I think. It's the nature of social media, marketing, and the medium.
Listen, I work in marketing, and long-form writing is a dying art that is very difficult to market. I genuinely think the concept of "tldr" really ruined a lot of people's ability to engage with longer form writing. Whether that be nonfiction opinion posts or actual fiction. Tumblr is one of the only places I can think of where long-form writing is a feasible medium to post at all, let alone gain a following for.
Think about it: instagram is best suited for images, videos, and short-form aestheticized poetry. Twitter has a character limit that requires long threads of individual tweets or images to get your message across. Pitch events are well-suited for twitter because your pitch by definition needs to be short. But sharing actual summaries, snippets, or excerpts? Not really possible. Tiktok is for videos, which as we know can be utilized, but is not the most efficient method of marketing written word. Ao3 is an archive with an excellent tagging system, but to get readers, outside marketing is required. Facebook requires a real name, and isn't really well suited for content creation either. Wattpad, Royal Road, and others are great for posting actual works, but they don't necessarily have well-functioning tag systems that help the author find their audience. That really just leaves Tumblr. Pillowfort is also an option, though it's still so in the beginning phase of development that it's pretty difficult to get started there.
It's well known in marketing that images and videos catch attention and long paragraphs of text (AKA what most prose looks like) tend to be scrolled past. The very nature of the long-form writing medium is against most marketing techniques. Marketing long-form writing needs to look different from any other medium.
All that being said: the culture of social media engagement has shifted, and this is a conversation that fandom has been having and I think has actually been doing well discussing the different facets of how the culture has shifted. Fandom (and content creation in general) is seen as a commodity to be consumed. Consumers want to see the content, maybe save it for later, and then move on to the next piece. This is easily done with visual mediums, but writing mediums are especially vulnerable to this culture shift because it does require so much time and energy to consume, let alone engage.
Creators don't see their work as a commodity to be consumed, but it is now. When consumers view a piece of visual media, they view the image (consume it) and then move to the next, some will spread it to others by engaging with the picture through reblogs or sending the post to someone else. But most often, there will be a "like" to tell the creator good job, and then scroll to the next. This is harder to do with written media unless one has the time and energy to read the piece. There's the extra step of critical thought.
To put it a different way, the market is flooded with content and creators. With so much to choose from, the consumer now does not have to participate in the community to ensure continued creation. There will be another creator tomorrow. The consumer no longer feels connected to a community of their interests, it is simply being sold to them.
So back to writeblr, this is where I am at a crossroads. I am tired of creating content to be consumed, I want community. But also, I have nowhere else to turn. I can either completely withdraw from what sliver of community I have found, or I can keep trucking along, create my stuff, play the games we play, chat with the people I do like and do care about, and hope that I don't get too frustrated one day and leave for good.

There have been a lot of claims being thrown around about inadequate mainstream media coverage of the Israel trial from western outlets. Unfortunately, a lot of it has been misinformation - for example, yesterday I reblogged a meme claiming that over a dozen print outlets had ignored the trial entirely, pointing out that virtually all the outlets had posted multiple front page articles about the trial. It may be inadequate or biased, frankly I didn't attempt to analyze the contents of the articles, but saying, for example, the New York Times has ignored the trial is provably false.
There is another real big claim going around. Or, rather, two claims drawing one conclusion, as summarised by these two social media posts that everyone seems to be linking to:
Tumblr media
Link
Tumblr media
Link
To state the claims plainly:
The BBC and every major Western outlet did not broadcast the first day of the trial, in which South Africa outlined their case against Israel.
The BBC and every major Western outlet did broadcast the second day of the trial, in which Israel defended itself.
Effectively, the accusation is that western news outlets only broadcast the second day of the trial, literally telling Israel's side of the story.
In this case, we are assuming "broadcast" to mean a full broadcast of the trial on TV, not the internet, as both points are laughably easy to prove false otherwise as literally every outlet I checked had at least one and usually multiple videos covering both days and provably covered the trial at multiple points during their broadcast day, and sky news in particular had full broadcasts on their website (and most had links to the official broadcast).
So, claim 1: Did the BBC and all major Western news outlets fail to broadcast day 1 of the trial on TV?
This is surprisingly difficult to prove one way or another for all networks, but I checked a handful of news outlet transcripts (CNN, for example) and they included no mention of such a broadcast and allowed no time slot large enough for such a broadcast. I'm saying this is likely true.
Claim 2: Did the BBC and all major Western news outlets broadcast day 2 of the trial? (specifically: Every. Single. One.)
This one is proving incredibly difficult to prove one way or another as well. But again, based on transcripts, none of the networks I looked at broadcast day 2. In fact, the only evidence I have found that any major US news outlet broadcast it at all is the Sky News online broadcast. So the "all major US news outlets" part is categorically false.
We can therefore consider Tamara Jaber an unreliable source in at least this particular instance as they specifically called out CNN and Sky News for uneven broadcasts and I was able to confirm in both cases an uneven broadcast did not occur. Wherever they are getting their information it is bad, and they are taking it at face value.
Now, the BBC in particular is a difficult one. It seemed obviously true at first, I mean why make it up? Surely the internet at large would catch such an egregiously false statement as claiming a 3 hour broadcast occurred that did not. I took it as a simple fact to be easily verified. But I can find no actual evidence whatsoever that such a broadcast occurred. Several outlets known to be less than reliable in their fact checking have reported they did, but every single article I checked linked back to some guy named Chris Corney (as seen above) and/or Tamara Jaber (whom we have already established is unreliable) as their only primary sources. I was unable to track down anything in terms of schedules or transcripts that support this, and in fact the published schedule for Jan 12 2024 does not leave any room for such a broadcast at any point in the day. Still, it seems impossible that the entire world simply accepted a three hour broadcast as fact based on the word of some dude on twitter. It seems like someone would have said this didn't actually happen. For this reason I'm saying this one is unverifiable (at least by me).
Overall, I'm judging the second point as false. There might have been a BBC broadcast and that's probably where the seed of truth comes from, but people decided that "the BBC sucks" was not dramatic enough and the rumor mill expanded it to include "all western news outlets".
So, time for soap box. I feel like we didn't need to go for maximum drama at the expense of truth here. That's just undermining our position when the idea that western news outlets are not adequately covering a genocide trial is sufficiently damning. We are not going to win a war of misinformation with 24 hour propaganda outlets. What we say being the truth is a high ground we cannot afford to give up for a bit more drama.

LET'S TALK MEMES ETIQUETTE !!
There's plenty of posts out there dealing with reblog karma and reblogging memes from the source. However, I haven't found any about another essential aspect when it comes to memes, so let's go!
Reblogging memes from the source (or in general) when not sending anything to the person who has reblogged it first is a mostly consolidated practice by now. However, there's another extremely important aspect that plenty of us forget to consider, and that can be as bad as not reblogging memes from the source:
The timing.
Let's picture this situation, something that must have happened to all of us at least once: you reblog a meme, maybe one you're excited about, and ten seconds later someone else reblogs the same meme (from the source). Now this can't really be a coincidence, it means that the other person saw your meme, liked it and decided to reblog it too. Without sending you anything.
They reblogged it from the source!
Yes, they did. But it's obvious that they still took it from you and didn't bother to send you anything.
This isn't saying that you always have to send in something when taking a meme from someone else. Of course, there are plenty of times when we can't think of something to send, or we don't want to send something because we don't want an extra thread.
And here comes what I mentioned before. The timing. Reblogging that meme instantly as in the example could be disheartening for your mutual. Not to mention that people might see your reblog and not the one of the person who reblogged it first, if you have a lot of shared followers.
However, this doesn't excuse you from not sending memes that concerns headcanons or questions for the mun. It takes thirty seconds to pick one and leave it in the person's ask box. So do it. Not only will that make the person happy, but it will prompt them to send you an ask in return.
You don't need to do this all the time, every day. If you regularly send memes to that person, then they won't feel like you're using them as a resource blog.
At the end of the day, it's all a matter of being mindful of your RP partners. If you see a meme you like and you don't feel like sending anything to the person who reblogged, consider waiting before reblogging it yourself. Tumblr allows us to schedule posts, so all you have to do is postponing the posting and you won't even have to bother to remember to reblog it at a later time.
Let's all contribute to make the RPC a more welcoming, interactive place!

Roleplaying Etiquette
Don't control other people's characters without permission. If your partner reveals things that only you, as the writer should know, don't make your character magically know them unless your partner said it was alright. .
Your character might have powers that interfere with others directly, or you might interact with characters who are supernatural or powerful. You should discuss things with your partner before you harm, kill or alter their muse - however keep in mind that if you don't want powerful muses to affect yours, then you should reconsider interacting with them. It's also not okay to demand someone else change their muse for your sake if you know beforehand that they're powerful or evil. .
Please read everyone's rules before you interact. Some people don't like roleplaying with non mutuals (terminology below), others are selective, etc. It's common courtesy to check first. .
Tag your triggers or state on your blogs that you don't tag them so others can decide whether or not to follow. However, it's polite to tag flashing images, irl blood/gore, nsfw posts, insects and body horror. . DON'T censor the word! It does not help and only fucks up people's blacklists. Writing tr*gger or tri//gg//er or other variants will show your posts to everyone anyway, so please write the entire word NORMALLY for the blacklist. .
Consider sending an ask before you reblog an ask meme from someone. Some people prefer you reblog memes from the source (the blog who posted it) instead of from them. .
Mun =/= Muse. Don't get angry at people for what their characters write. If you feel uncomfortable with how a character is treating yours, you can change your interaction or bring it up, but don't take it as a sign that your partner secretly hates you and is trying to hurt you through their writing. .
If you can, cut your posts to reduce dashboard spam. This only works on desktop, you can use XKit or XKit Rewritten .
Don't start drama. Don't vague people, send hateful or impolite anons, don't pass around call outs or feel like you have to make a statement or pick sides if you see arguing on your dash. Roleplaying is not activism. If someone is trying to get you to turn on a partner or side with them, it's better to just step away. .
Don't pester people for replies. You can send a follow up message asking if someone's still interested in continuing a reply, but if you harass someone to answer you by repeatedly spamming them with questions or making them feel guilty for not replying immediately, they will likely not want to write with you anymore. RPing is a hobby, not a job, and your partners probably have lives outside of writing.
Terminology:
OOC - out of character
IC - in character
Mun - the writer
Muse - the characters
Starters - a drabble or a sentence that invites interaction
Ask memes / inbox memes - prompts you can send people via asks
Magic Anons (also spelled m!a or magic!anons) - Anonymous asks that put a "curse" on your character (i.e: muse turns into a cat for 3 days) You can ignore it if you don't want to do it
Mutuals - people you follow who follow you back
Selective - Mun will only write with people they select
Semi Selective - same as above but more lax
Private - Mun writes with only very specific people
Reblog karma - you are expected to send an ask if you reblog an ask meme

Hai darlings! Welcome to Tomobiki central! This is a blog which archives anything and everything Urusei Yatsura, both old stuff and new!! This blog was made specifically so fans can avoid spam posts and make it easier to find the best Urusei Yatsura content on Tumblr.
What will be reblogged here?
Everything! as long as it's not low effort, that is.
What counts as low effort?
Posts like screenshots with no text added (unless it's a screenshot which is a meme within itself), or non oc fanart with no source added, official art with no description as to what it is, low quality textposts etc. Also, your post should clearly be recognizable as something from Urusei Yatsura, and not look like something from another anime (as it should have something like characters or some kind if sign that it is from UY). Posts with only links won't be reblogged as well, unless it's a link to a fanfic (but make sure to mention that!). Posts which send unnecessary hate about the series (or anything really) will not be reblogged either since it may create discourse, however meaningful criticism is allowed.
Why was my post not reblogged even though I followed the above criteria?
That would be possibly because I've either missed it or it didn't show up in the tags. You can message or send an ask to inform me.
What about NSFW posts?
NSFW will be reblogged only if it's with the series' own restrictions (that is, the most which can be shown would be nude breasts, though over-fetishism of that won't be reblogged either). Anything over these restrictions, censored or not will not be reblogged. If you don't want to see the NSFW posts, you can simply filter out the tag 'nsfw'.
Why should I follow this blog?
Of course, whether you follow or not is up to you! But following this blog is going to be very helpful to those who create UY content since it allows their posts to get noticed and appreciated more: the more followers this blog has, the more notes they will get. And not to mention, you'll get more UY to enjoy!
How do I find a specific type of content on this blog (for example, only remake related or only fanart)?
The tags will help with those! Posts will be divided in two different ways: a) according to what type of media they are from (manga, original {anime}, remake or even the video games!! However if there is no sign of which media it is from it will be tagged as 'unspecified'.) and b) based in what type of content it is (fanart, official, edit, gif, video, etc.). You can search with the help of these tags and find what you're looking for!
That's all I can think for FAQs, if there's anything else, I'll edit and add to this post.
This blog is still new so it will take time to fill it up with a lot of UY. Please reblog this post so more UY fans will be able to know about this blog. If you have any queries, feel free to contact me here or on my main (@yumedoca ). Have a cosmically great day ahead!! 🌟

PSA: Reblog Karma vs Reblogging From Source
What is 'Reblog Karma'?
Reblog Karma is a term coined by the RP community in which you send in a meme to the roleplaying blog you are reblogging the meme from. Non-roleplaying blogs - particularly those who originally post the memes you're reblogging - typically prefer that you don’t send something in when you reblog a meme from them.
Many roleplayers practice this, but many roleplayers do not. It’s just a matter of personal preference, though to many it may feel coercive into forced interaction.
How is 'Reblogging From Source' different?
The source is the original poster of the meme.
However, for the case of reblogging from a source, this can also be extended to also include reblogging memes from other meme resource blogs - particularly those who double as archives who seek out older memes whose original poster blog may be inactive or has since completely deactivated.
As these are blogs specifically set up for the very purpose of reblogging memes from, it is highly encouraged that, whenever possible, you reblog from either the original poster (source), or from another meme blog that has reblogged the meme to enable people to be able to reblog without disrupting other roleplayers' notifications.

8. reblog karma
Tumblr media
I don't care for it? Like, if you practice reblog karma, good for you, but I find it a bit unnecessary. What it does is enforce courtesy and that's redundant to me. Common courtesy (and common sense, as most folks in the RPC have this in their rules by now) is reblogging ask memes from the source. I personally don't really care for the expectation of getting an ask either. Sure, it's nice, but making that a hard rule is something I've found that introduces an added pressure to making the RPC "fair." Not to mention some asks memes are very situational and may not suit the specific muses that would potentially be interacting. Personally, I just send asks to someone if I see them reblog an ask meme I like and that fits our muses, if it's an interaction prompt. I don't need a rule in place to be nice.

Ohhh, Food Fantasy, what a mess you are. That thing is still going! I was deep into Food Fantasy way before I met you, and I ended up joining a small community (through which I met Starry and Jade and many other friends that are still in my life!) for RP. Pretty much all of us have fallen out of it now though HAHA. It was fun while it lasted, though! That's the fandom where my OC Miles got the most development, and where I was happiest with his portrayal. I don't recommend it, the story is full of holes and the translations are poor and many of the designs are very questionable at best. But man, I loved it in high school haha

So there's a trend I've been seeing, well for a while, but lately it's been grating on me especially hard with regards to the Crimew No-Fly List "hack". It's that genre of post that, often angrily, but sometimes just condescendingly/disappointingly tells people that they aren't taking a topic seriously enough or focusing on the correct part of it. I wanna break down just why I am find it so upsetting, and this event is an exceptional case study for it.
Because on the surface, it's entirely understandable. This is public-facing evidence in the government's own hand of a staggering litany of human rights abuses that really does deserve more in-depth discussion than it has been getting. People are absolutely justified in feeling frustrated that more discussion hasn't spawned at all social levels about this and while it's natural to cry out asking why that isn't happening, I think there's a few points that need to be kept in consideration.
A lot of us have been, in one way or another, dealing with this for years. Part of the horror of the No-Fly list is the sheer scale of it - so many people have been and continue to be harmed by their baseless inclusion on the list that it is difficult to even conceptualize how much pain has been inflicted, and that does matter. And I promise you, every single person on that list knows how big a deal both the list itself and this latest (though not the first) leak of it is.
The people on the list know. Their families know. For those lucky and brave enough to try and fight their inclusion in court, their legal teams know. All these people know, viscerally, how wretched this list is and have been bearing up under its weight for years, only talking to the select few they trust. My partner has been open about their inclusion, but I also have professional ties to people who have worked on cases trying to get names removed. Attempting to talk about their work publicly results in harassment by law enforcement and, if kept up, inclusion on the same or similar watch lists.
The angry calls for greater discussion will certainly cross the dashboards of people who are treating this whole thing like a silly meme, but it's also going to hit those of us who have been not discussing but living this constant pressing horror for years now. Hearing people say that, because we are enjoying some levity being injected into this constant source of suffering in our lives we don't "really give half a fuck about tearing down imperialism and colonization" or that we are "laughing and not actually caring" is gut-wrenching. Especially when it comes from people who also regularly talk about the need to avoid activist burnout or for marginalized people to care for themselves.
But I get the impulse to lash out like that. I have had to write and rewrite this very post more times than I can count now to cut out angry and inflammatory phrasing on my own end. And I know that, both in personal posts in the past and in reblogs, I often still fall prey to that thinking of "this is (rightly, justifiably) upsetting so I am going to lash out at people who don't seem to care".
But in this introspective moment, I am trying to stay aware (and want to try to stay aware in the future when I am tempted) that at least some of the people reblogging and posting these things are also hurting and responding to that. And while my first impulse is to cast aspersions on the people hurting me (even in this sentence I had to stop myself from slyly giving an "example" of what I would say if I wanted to lash out and thus satisfying that spiteful desire without admitting to it), I'm also trying to keep in mind my goal here.
I am hoping that at least a few people who have made (or at least reblogged onto my dash) these furious posts - both about this and other issues - will also consider what it is they are trying to accomplish. I also (again) want to keep in mind that I and people like me who are hurt by these posts aren't the only ones impacted by the No-Fly list. That people making these angry posts can be too, and as such I don't want to say that their justified expressions of frustration and rage need to be made more palatable, because they don't.
I do need to point out, though, that I've found the best way to start a discussion of a topic on the internet is to start discussing it in an open medium where others can join in. And when I look in the notes of the inflammatory calls for discussion (or even just awareness), I mostly see people talking about the call itself.
And there's nothing wrong with being angry and wanting to vent. There's not even anything wrong with being angry and wanting to vent in a public space where others can commiserate with you and help you feel less alone. But it *is* going to be much better for everyone - yourself included - if calls for awareness focus on calling for awareness and venting frustrations focus on venting in ways that don't further compound frustrations. Because looking at the notes of all of these more furious posts on these topics, I cannot imagine the constant fighting the OPs wind up doing feels soothing.

Furry Visual Novel Book Club: Echo Week 11 SPOILERS
Hi everyone, here is the SPOILER discussion post for “Echo - Leo’s Thursday and Friday”
Links: Previous - Next - Original - Spoiler Free Version
Feel free to respond in reblogs/replies/or asks :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We start Thursday with Chase and Leo driving down the road, the two finally learning what happened to Carl. The ram was in the crawlspace left to wander about without Chase spending the night with him. Chase and Leo discuss Chase’s project, the two chiding to each other the merit of college in the process.
Tumblr media
RANT: If you think Leo is a hard-line Republican/Trumper and use this part ‘evidence’, you can’t fucking read. Even without Howly’s Trump statement re:Leo retraction, that’s a VERY fucking different thing in 2016 and has a LOT of context. This liberal thing is literally Leo lashing out at his own failings/fall to pressure from his father, as well as his irrational anger over Pueblo ‘stealing’ Chase from him. This is the second time Leo expressed interest in College in someway, and is regurgitating hate/ignorant speech as a coping mechanism. Please learn to read and not just fucking meme.
They plan to meet with TJ later to make up for bailing on him Tuesday, and discuss filming out the rail-yard in the meantime. The scene changes to the rail-yard, the track ‘Oldwinds’ playing, a rustic American Western piece.
Tumblr media
Insane Posting: Okay add this to my Samuel x Chase ship folder, lets go people lets go!
Chase films the rail-yard while Leo fetches water bottles, until eventually the rustling of grass startles Chase.
Tumblr media
Okay now this is interesting in a ‘meta’ lore sense. So this is obviously some kind of supernatural being. Something fucking with Chase. I don’t think there’s enough evidence to say what yet, even Socketman right here and right now doesn’t track to much. But more importantly it’s described as dragging, similar to the ‘slithering’. I think this gives more credence that the entity that chases after Carl and Chase in Carl’s route isn’t necessarily the entity that stalks Sam and Chase in the Murder Pitt. Maybe it’s just how some/all of the entities move on a physical space.
While trying to find the source of the sound, Leo arrives on the scene, scaring Chase.
Tumblr media
Everyone bullies my poor otter boy... and that makes him kinnie
Come Over begins to play as Chase asks Leo how he made the dragging noise, to which Leo acts completely clueless to. Distracted by Chase’s stomach, the two end up flirting with each other, rubbing and admiring each other’s body.
Tumblr media
Another reference to Route 65, the two sharing another moment together in this place that means... everything to them. They’re begging, end... and beginning of the end. Chase’s ‘Sunset Station’ if you will.
They kiss gently… at first. The sudden shock encouraging them to make out more fully. Before the two can continue, Kudzu shows up, catching the two in their PDA. The track changes to Neutral as the conversation shifts. The raccoon teases the pair but otherwise partakes in casual conversion with them afterwards. Leo thanks the raccoon for helping the two last night, the track Quiet playing as the conversation shifts. Kudzu warns Leo that Clint is being more violent and the pair should avoid him. Leo becomes more and more agitated at the insinuation that Clint threatened Chase.
Tumblr media
Sidenote: AWOOGA. Thank you Howly, Based God, for including full muzzle wolf kisses in Latino Wolf simulator route. Truly a visionary ahead of his time.
Chase changes the conversation topic, inviting Kudzu to the park with the pair and TJ. The group pick up TJ off screen and on route to a park in Payton, we learn that Chase isn’t a good swimmer when compared to other otters. Closer to the park itself, Chase and TJ talk in the backseat, the lynx admitting to Chase that he felt like the trip was a mistake, and he felt like he shouldn’t have come.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chase very literally ignoring everyone for his and Leo’s sake again. Also more of the coldness Chase generally has towards TJ... more ‘evidence’ the Chase we see on that Route isn’t fully him IMO. This definitely calls into question how good of a friend Chase is, and if anything how Leo and Chase treat everyone else when they’re together is the most outright toxic and rude thing they do with each other that is probably harder to ‘fix’ than most things.
…Before the mood can shit to much the group arrives at the field, dividing the teams for a match of soccer.
Tumblr media
TJ completely dominates the game and the group laugh about the imbalance in players. As the group prepare to leave, Chase and Kudzu have a moment to themselves to talk. Chase apologies for being racist and the conversation turns cold, with Kudzu hinting at something heavy happening to the him whilst in Payton.
The scene cuts to later, with Chase returning to the rail-yard for more footage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two important things here that are back to back. Chase literally goes out of his way to make the town look WORSE than it already his. His mind is so poisoned and made up about the place, that he’ll make sure everyone else feels the same way. Poising his own-well and all that.
As Leo’s motif/time of day is the setting sun, this is also a ‘foreshadow’ or hint towards what’s coming. No matter what happens with Leo... it has to end. They’re to far gone in their delusion and lack of communication to fix things. The Sun WILL set on the two... Bittersweet and all.
Clint wanders into the rail-yard while on a walk, eventually noticing Chase. He’s high on something and doesn’t remember the night before. Chase notices he has a gun in his pocket and tries to keep him calm..Clint talks to Chase, ignorant but not completely hateful… at least to being gay itself. and gives his perspective on Leo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We get more of Leo’s anger and rage here. Leo took out his feelings, and continues to do so, by bullying those weaker than him. Clint not having a place to relax or be himself, with his home life dominated by his abusive father, and social life dominated by Leo... the ringtail ended up ‘worse’ arguably because of Leo. While child-selfishness and anger and Echo’s general ability to ramp up negative emotions, even outside of the Hysteria, is definitely call to ‘shield’ Leo, Chase and the audience is finally starting to learn that there’s an anger and darkness deeper down that we’ve been shown so far.
Clint seemingly threatens Chase with a gun, demanding to know why he’s out here. Chase calms him down by referencing his camera, and Clint tells Chase a story about someone dying the in 50’s hopping trains. Clint reveals his father would always tell him that story, and that sometimes he sees the man in it, even purposely coming to the rail-yard to see him at times. Clint walks off afterwards and Chase hurries back to Leo’s house.
When Chase arrives, Leo is eating a TV Dinner, having ‘cooked’ one for Chase as well. Chase asks Leo if the wolf ‘bullied’ Clint, and Leo almost admits to it… before the cheapness of the TV dinner causes the two to jokingly tease each other back and forth it with, the two man-handling each other on the couch as a result.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Insane Posting: Hi, my local goon cave called and they requested both of these go up on the wall, framed and blown up to 5x6 feet each... But more seriously Howly’s... ‘interest’ in Latino men (Looking at Leo and Devon) is on full blast here... and by god am I looking.
Two two fall asleep on the couch together, both exhausted from the day
Insane Posting: Chase’s musky ass didn’t shower and Leo was fucking smooshing him into that couch... Hot
Friday opens with the two at the library, Chase actually working on his project doing some research. Chase learns that the man in the story was real, and that he reported being saved by some creature.
Tumblr media
HOWLY PLEASE. Literally learning the cost of staying with him like this. Not learning or changing, but literally dangling his legs into the abyss.
Leo bugs Chase to grab dinner and the two make plans on where to eat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is such a dark and twisted view into Leo. Up until now, beyond anger issues, he’s been relatively ‘okay’. But this is where thing turn manipulative and truly concerning. Not only for what he’s doing, but for outright lying to Chase. Leo’s a troubled man, and this turn to outright manipulation and control to get what he wants is dark and fascinating... It isn’t enough for me to ‘cancel’ him myself, or completely disavow the two (as highlighted later), but it’s definitely one of the very much actual ‘red flags’ Leo displays. This is where he’s at his lowest point in my opinion. There’s a difference between coddling and ignoring the situation he’s manipulating (Agreeing with Chase with the music, only pulling strings) to OUTRIGHT lying, bringing it up to put others down... to lessen them to Chase. One of the more intense things Leo does in the whole novel.
The two eat at a steakhouse, Leo insisting he buys, and on the way back they take a detour to Payton High, the pair’s old school. They reminiscence about school, Intimate begins to play. Chase mentions he would repeat high-school to fix mistakes, while Leo wants to relive it for its own sake. Chase learns that Leo is deeply tied to his past, upset he doesn’t feel the same anymore.
Tumblr media
This is their doomed fate I love so much. They share interests, mutual body attractiveness, displays of affection, and bond and find comfort in each other... but fundamentally they want or need different things. Echo bound them together, anchoring each other to the rocks of the craggy shore... And in that web of mistrusts and falsehoods and circumstance... love bloomed. Leo and Chase truly care for each other, they truly want each other to be happy, and both WANT to be happy with the other. But their rock, their flag in the sand, their Rubicon... IS Echo. It IS the game. It IS the point. The point isn’t that they’re toxic and abusive and hate each other deep down. It’s that they’ve built themselves up and torn themselves down on the idea of the past, both positive and negative. Of Echo, of the Town itself, of The Entity and the Player and of Sam, of the things that make up the ugly and good: together. It’s tied together fused forcibly and neither of them are able to TRULY dissect and separate themselves from it (Insert Micha in Brian’s trailer) from it. Sure Chase agrees to try Echo again... but only for Leo himself, not because he’s okay with the idea, or receptive to loving or even just living in the town. It’s all at a cost to himself, to his freedom, and to each other. The two can’t move on or find happiness when neither of them is truly willing to compromise... and that’s why they’ll be each other’s Sunset. That’s why they can’t work... because just like this town, they’re only moving in circles...
Chase comforts the wolf, the two embracing on the stadium stand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where my main ‘defense’ of Leo comes from. He’s a troubled man but he’s willing to try and learn. He’s willing to make himself better, to make his partner happy. Deep down all he wants is TO love, to provide and be with someone who makes him happy. His motives are good... his actions aren’t the smartest.
Leo pours his heart out to Chase, begging him to stay. Chase is hesitant, not wanting to stay tied to the town. Leo tells Chase to try again after school, even if it’s just for awhile. So that they’ll know for sure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the crux of it all.. Leo wants closure. Three years ago Chase just didn’t break his heart, but left the wolf in state of chaos. He couldn’t move on, couldn’t accept the hand fate dealt him. Leo wants that chance. He truly believes that Chase and him CAN work, that the two deserve to TRY. Leo wants to give what’s in his heart to someone else... He doesn’t take the best actions, hell he probably doens’t know HOW to. But the wolf is trying... trying to fight for what he wants. The fact its wrong and sick makes it even more compelling...
Tumblr media
Damn Chase... what else is going to STRIKE you.... But more seriously, the author is reminding/foreshadowing that ignoring everything comes at a cost...
The track Bittwerseet begins to play when Chase chooses Leo.
Tumblr media
...
The two embrace and kiss passionately on the stadium steps, the two feeling each other’s love.
The scene switches to the two on Leo’s bed, the two doing a bit more than ‘fooling around’. The scene cuts to afterwards, Leo singing in the shower with Chase on the bed. Leo’s phone wakes up the groggy otter and we’re met with a Choice…
Tumblr media
And that’s where we’ll cut it for here. This part was EXTREMELY emotionally taxing (positive) so I wanted it to be a bit shorter, and this next part needed to be cut in half for the Spoiler Free version. Feel free to choose either option and read until the next choice (this screen):
Tumblr media
Sidenote: I love this visual bug when fast forwarding to this screen LMAO.
For next Week, Spoiler will be in one post and you can read as normal, but Spoiler Free will be separated into two separate posts. I would recommend waiting until the end of the Route to read the ‘other’ side, but this changes will reconvene after the choice that leads to the next day.
Thank you again everyone, and especially listen to me rant about Leo Alvarez for forever ~

let's talk fic request etiquette!
as someone who has been in the fanfiction game for a hot minute now, i've been having some Thoughts around ask memes for drabblers and fic writers. these ask memes are such a fun and helpful way for writers to exercise their creative chops, and for readers to participate in the creation of the kinds of stuff they like to read. i'm a huge fan of ask memes myself (feel free to send me one!), and i've written a lot of stuff i never would have thought to write without other people's generous prompts in my inbox.
but! i think it can be easy for some expectations to emerge around fic writers and ask memes that can make writing stressful and overwhelming for writers, and that's not great! fic writing should be a source of fun and creativity for writers and readers, and so there are couple things i'd like ppl to keep in mind when they're thinking about asking their favorite writers to fulfill a prompt.
check their blog! a lot of writers have rules or guidelines for the types of requests they'll take and how they'll take them. for example, some writers may close down their askbox after receiving a certain number of asks, while others will happily take as many requests as come their way! writers will also likely have a list of fandoms and/or ships they'll write for, which is good for you to know when it comes to making requests. please do a thorough check of a writer's blog to make sure you're respecting their boundaries before making a request. some writers might have guidelines that fly in the face of some of the other items on this list, and that's okay! these are just general recommendations, and individual writers might feel differently.
make one request at a time. this piece of advice might be directly contradicted by the guidelines on a particular writer's blog, and if a writer says they're down to accept as many prompts in a row from the same person as they can, then great! do that! but it's not uncommon for a writer to be inundated with a lot of requests at once, especially after posting a new ask meme, and so it's considered polite to send one request and then wait for yours to be filled before sending another. remember, you're very likely not the only person who enjoys this particular person's writing, so give them the chance to do their thing.
only send the prompt and the fandom/ship/character(s). the idea behind these fic ask memes is to see what the writer comes up with when only given the prompt and the characters to write about. if you like this writer, you should like what they write! unless the writer says otherwise, please do not send detailed scenarios or plot descriptions of what should happen in the fic you're requesting. if you're reading an ask meme, and one of the prompts on the list makes you think of a specific scene for your favorite ship, wonderful! that should be something you write and explore for yourself. it is not another writer's responsibility to jump through your enumerated hoops when you send them an ask meme request. remember, your prompt is meant to be the jumping off point for the writer's creativity, not an essay assignment in a literature class.
specify the ask meme, especially if it's older. if you're sending in a prompt from an ask meme, and the writer has reblogged a number of them, please help them out and let them know which one you're sending from. this is especially true if you're sending from an ask meme that is not the one they've reblogged most recently. it's just helpful!
reblog the fic you've requested. this one is basic as hell, y'all. if you've requested someone write something, you reblog it and put something nice in the tags. end of story. this was written for you. the very least you can do is be nice about it. and if the prompt was not filled in the way you expected, or if you didn't enjoy the fic, fine! don't request from that writer again. but for this fic, just fucking reblog it. it's quite literally the bare minimum and it costs you nothing.
talk to the writer! if you're not sure what a particular writer's feelings are on ask memes/requests/writing in general, ask! i promise you, we love talking about writing and our favorite blorbos, and it's always better to err on the side of courtesy. feel free to ask us how and when we like to receive requests or what types of requests we're okay with taking. we'd love to tell you how to make our lives easier, lol.
remember that we don't get paid. unlike fanart, fanfiction cannot legally be commissioned or purchased, so even though fanfiction writers put just as much time and work into their art as fan artists do, we do not have the option of any kind of remuneration for it. and that's fine, we get that! but it also means that we are doing a lot of labor (labor of love, but labor nonetheless) for free. please keep that in mind when sending in requests. we're happy to write using your prompts, but it's a prompt, not a detailed commission. our ideas and wants matter, too.
fic writers, feel free to add to this list with your own suggestions. i can only speak for myself when i say i love receiving fic requests from people, because i love writing and i love connecting with others in my fandom and i love exploring these characters in a way i might otherwise not have done. but what i don't love is feeling like i am at the beck and call of others in my fandom. i write for me, and then i like to share what i've written with others. it's how i participate in my community, and i'm so grateful to anyone who has ever sent me a prompt to fulfill. please just remember that your favorite writers don't just exist to bring your personal whims to life, and that they work really hard to create the things you enjoy.

I've been ruminating on fandom lately. Criticizing fandom at all will get you barraged by very defensive fans who will accuse you of hating fun, not understanding creative expression, and being an art snob, and I am about to go a LOT harder than most of the posts I've been exposed to, so in an attempt to preemptively curb that indignance: I like fandom. I have written fanfics, and theory posts, and meta, and I've reblogged countless fanart. A lot of what I engage with or have made meets the standards I'm about to critique, and I understand completely that for many, fandom is a hobby. People would like to escape from the struggles in their lives. They find comfort in the media they love, so they immerse themselves it. It can be hard to make anything in this capitalist hellscape, so if you've achieved something at all, it's a miracle. I get it. I really do. I'm not an art snob; I think it's fine if things aren't that deep, and they're primarily wish-fulfillment. I have some grievances with the critics too, and they'll come up. This post isn't about you specifically; it's bigger. Fandom content suffers a lack of substance because of superficial engagement with the source material.
Many fandom critical posts on this website bring up shipping culture as the reason everything is samey and uninteresting, often referencing ao3 in specific. I sympathize with these posts, I also find shipping prominence can be fairly tedious when you want to read ANYTHING else, but why is it when complain about fandom, we point the finger at fic? Why do we use shorthands like "he would not fucking say that," and drop ao3 tagging conventions, and mention fanfic websites? Have y'all LOOKED at the fan art you reblog? A lot of it is just posing and kissing. If you wanted to analyze it for any further meaning, I don't think you'd get very far. I am not positioning fanfiction as superior; as everyone points out, a lot of it is repetitive and derivative, but let's not pretend that this is a fanfic exclusive issue. We can take it further out! Look at the absolute state of meta. Most analysis is done in service of promoting a headcanon or a ship if it isn't just a theory wildly speculating an explanation for an unresolved or ambiguous plot point. We're gonna include those guys who make power scaling rankings, filling out the wiki, etc too. They're fans! Everyone agrees those people aren't engaging with the text in a deeper way, but that doesn't make them NOT fans. It is the way their appreciation manifests the clearest! We're all fans; we are doing the same thing in just a different form.
Most of what gets popularized I all these spaces is based on a strictly literal understanding of the work; it's about plot events and how characters relate to it and one another, and the meaning people get out of it—from shipping to theorizing to memes to tierlists—never goes beyond that level. If people don't know how to look for themes, to interpret symbolism and examine the construction of a work to see how it contributes to how the whole is operating to affect them, because their education on how to do it sucked shit, then obviously they won't. But I don't think that's enough to explain the heart of the problem.
Critics will bring up the fandom wash cycle, an analogy for how way fandom will spend more time engaged with itself than the source material, and perpetuate its own tropes and fixations ad nauseum. This is true in any fanspace you can spend your time in, including those "who would win" bros. I hear this, and I think of social media, the place most of fandom lives now. People making original work often talk about how their stuff never gets any attention compared to fandom stuff; the biggest fandoms are sprawling franchises with corporate entities behind them. Social media algorithms promote what is already popular, what will generate the most clicks, so you stay online and make their corporate overlords more money. It is the depth of human experience streamlined into easily digestible chunks.
You're spent because life is hard and the world sucks and the only relief you can find is in the media you love. You don't want to expend a lot of energy today, so you'll consume or create ship centered content, or fan theories, or memes and gifs. You'll wonder who would win in a fight. Even without social media, people feed their own algorithms, because the system is designed to encourage it. Fandom is part of a larger whole.
If fandom will ever be more than what it is, you have to be willing to put in the work to fix it. Criticism won't cut it. As the saying goes, be the change you want to see in the world. Create what you want to see, use what you make to teach what might be lacking, seek out more of the things that look like what you want fandom to be (I assure you it exists), not just what you already know. Fandom is perpetuated by fans. Being a fan doesn't make you predisposed to creating cyclical, watered-down content. Every fan has a rich internal life with a whole host of experiences that should inform both how they make their works and how they read it to begin with, because they're people.
People are far too diverse to be defined by an algorithm; maybe with enough effort, we can write a new one.
