@johnnysslaughter : ❛ what are you doing out here by yourself? ❜ ( various question sentence starters )
She stiffens at the sudden sound, tensing, the image of someone caught doing something they really shouldn't ( exacerbated by the sudden jolt back away from the steadily chugging generator in front of her ). It's a moment before the familiarity of his voice eases her and she pivots on her heel.
" It's just you, " Relief seeps into her tone, dropped guard clear by the way her shoulders dip. If there's one thing Johnny has proved again and again, it's that he has absolutely no interest in doing her any harm, something that had taken a while to fully settle in her paranoid, adrenaline-fueled brain. It was probably a horrible idea to grow complacent when those around him saw her as prey but despite it all he had a way of disarming her, making her feel safe when she really shouldn't.
Don't let your guard down. It was something she'd told herself at length when he'd first laid on the charm, a mantra she'd tried constantly to repeat. And yet here she was, feeling like a schoolgirl with a crush.
... Which leads to her feeling a little guilty about the makeshift mine which was now sitting tucked away on top of the machinery. If he's here, then it means someone in his family is going to be the unwitting victim of the trick she'd just picked up from Jill.
Crossing the clearing with a few steps, she stops before him with a sheepish look.
" The others wanted to split up. " An eye-roll makes it clear just what she thinks of that plan " I told them it was a stupid idea, but they didn't wanna listen, and - well, you get the idea. " Even with her frustration evident - a quirk of her stubbornness - she gives him a small smile. At least her peers' stupid idea meant she didn't have to sneak off.
" Oh - don't touch that, by the way, " she suddenly says, a glance back to the generator. The source of the mild guilt.

hihihihi! please more info about the side characters babies?
CERTAINLY
Basically the side characters are each products of the main three's routes in some way and I'm hoping to include them as part of those stories as more detailed elements of their overarching arcs.
readmore cause i'm long winded oops
Kazu first showed up in canon in a Yakuza themed AU short story I wrote for Patreon to be Mori's right hand man and bodyguard. He's 6'5" and built like a brick shithouse (charm point: huge tiddies and a tiny waist, very Dorito coded). Kazu's a fun combination of Stoic and Confident- he's an expert martial artist so he's kinda got that meathead/jock swagger- but also a delightful degree of socially inept and has a constant intense resting bitchface. He would beat someone into a paste for threatening you without blinking but if you cried in front of him he would have zero idea what to do. His personality is very Guard Dog? He always reminds me of a very mean doberman, alert and ready to react Severely and also absoLUTELY unswervingly loyal to people he's decided to trust. With Mori, the dynamic is especially funny as it took Kazu a while to respect him enough to take orders from but now that Mori's proven himself, Kazu would do basically anything he said, though they do share the Warrior's Bond and have to brawl a lot to work out the tension or solve disagreements.
Kazu used to be in a biker gang and spent time in prison (he also used to be super skinny and didn't bulk up until his mid twenties). He runs a mechanic shop during the day where he customizes cars and bikes and also built his custom bike, Kanōbo, from the ground up. He also loves J-Idols + has an anime figure cabinet and worked in an izakaya/pub for a number of years so he can actually cook. Vital funfacts: He enjoys beating people up, loves steak, is a junior high dropout, and nearly qualified for olympic level judo.
As of now Kazu doesn't have a demon deal but no promises for the future :)

Raath is almost comically complex for his role as a side character and is actually a redux of an OC I had in another fandom many years ago. Canon took a direction i didn't like and for a long time Raath sort of simmered but I love his Assholish Behavior and found a great role for him in TCM as Amir's parent's go-to hitman.
Raath is, above all else, brutal and carnal to the core. He was raised in a really fucked up way that cut him off from any semblance of a normal human childhood as part of an dark-entity-worshipping, off the grid assassin cabal. He was raised essentially as a child soldier and pushed because of his prodigy and proclivity towards assassin skills. He's socially inept but in a weaponized way, unafraid to flagrantly disregard social norms to say or do whatever he wants.
Raath is about 6'3"ish and lean/lithe. He's muscular but built for dexterity over strength- though don't let that fool you, he's immensely strong. While he doesn't know his origins, he was born in Greece to Cypriot parents. When he was a young teen, his cabal master had the revelation that Raath was the link back to their supernatural patron and decided to ritually mutilate him (in accordance to the old ways) as a sacrifice. The ordeal was utterly brutal (think legends of the old norse Blood Eagle) and by all accounts, there's no way he should have been able to survive. But miraculously, somehow, he did and the cabal considered that a sign to continue his training.
Raath doesn't have a demon deal. However, in the world of TCM, there are different orders of "demons" (not all supernatural entities use that word to describe themselves, its more of a human POV type label). Mori, Amir, and Akello are all humans-turned-demons via contracts made with other demons. Tor, from Akello's chapter, is a full demon and had never been anything else. Raath is something different altogether. Essentially, Raath is a human vessel for the phonos of bloodlust, Aimvoros. In Greek mythology, phonoi are deities that are the literal personification of a human emotion/experience and they're the children of Eris, the goddess of discord. Aimvoros is a play on the Greek words for Blood Hunger. So ESSENTIALLY, Raath has a demon of a Particularly potent caliber in his head somewhere, who's slowly and quietly trying to take him over and regain a physical form. Raath, however, is wild and unpredictable AND a lot more cunning than he seems. So the baseline for Raath is that he's playing a mental game of cat and mouse with a minor god inside his own head and winning. Its a long and arduous process but it sets the stage for Raath becoming the new blood god while retaining his human consciousness.
For his day job, Raath is an assassin/hitman who specializes in out of range sniping and making a huge mess of his targets. He's the guy you send in when you want to send a message, not have a kill go under the radar. As such, he's been very useful to Amir's parents for their dirty business and political maneuvering, though he's only as loyal as the assignments are engaging. Amir and Raath dislike each other a lot but they both acknowledge that the other is Useful in their own right.
Some lesser-seen Raath arts (thank you @mineshaft-birdie you have such a way with this bastard)

Marcel is, by comparison, the freshest TCM character on the roster and so I'm still kind of feeling him out a little bit. He's gregarious and loud, generally friendly and well liked by classmates, coworkers, and teachers. He's very much that Star Football Player Who's Best Friend is in Band- he could absolutely be an asshole with the social position he's had as a high performing athlete going into college on a sports scholarship but his swagger and cockiness is more charming than offensive and he doesn't let the college sports environment get TOO much into his head.
He is, however, very confident and sure of himself. Growing up he got in trouble for backtalking to teachers almost constantly, and always had a comment for any given situation. He has an incredibly loud, unique laugh that you could pick out in a crowd and even now on the college campus him and his friends are usually the most animated group in the quad at any given time.
Marcel works hard and takes his studies pretty seriously or rather.... as seriously as he has to. He keeps his grades up to maintain financial aid but is always ready to party and now that he's on his own and establishing his adult life, he's ready to experiment and try new things.
Marcel found out about the demon infestation in the city on his own and was willing to make a deal with one for information on the accident that "killed" Akello but has so far managed to avoid actually taking out a contract. Akello and Marcel were very VERY close before the accident, however, and now they're sort of trying to figure out how to go back to that. Akello's big Parental Fear is that Marcel will have a Party Whore College Boy (like HE DID) phase and lose track of his academic pursuits.
For now, I'm lacking in Marcel concept art but Atlas' headshot is fucking dreamy so here it is again.
Tumblr media
I THINK?? THATS EVERYTHING??? ALL THE BASIC DETAILS? I love my side characters very very much and I'm hoping the KS unlocks that sprite package so I can get them some official tcm sprites! (I blatantly made it the first stretch goal cause i want it SO BAD).

Not really a question for the students, but have you ever considered adding Thomas Hewitt into this AU?
Tumblr media
Yes! they're a lil trio of cousins :) (The girl is Heather from TCM 2013)
Thomas is like uhh 21/22 and he's working at the family business :) Heather is 16/17 and wants to pursue an art career they're all very protective of eachother in different ways and they always played together at family barbecues when they were children :)

                                            verse: stranger things.
Tumblr media
I have developed a couple different verses for Johnny in the Stranger Things universe that I wanted to post up here for those who have been interested and asking. I want to start by saying this entire AU was closely created with @kinghaargrove ! Due to this I wanted to note that in this universe if Johnny isn’t dating anyone, or is not a developing ship, by default he is dating Billy in this verse. As for the main timeline of events, Johnny by Stranger Things canon, would appear around seasons 2-3. Keep in mind I do have verses for him being a killer in Hawkins that more aligns with TCM, but this one is more so for the realism sake of him fitting into that universe.
Johnny was born and raised in Texas, in the small town of Newt. A single child, with a less than perfect home life. It was his mother that tried to give him everything, but his father that couldn’t stand looking at him. His father’s resentment for them both only grew stronger in time, the more he would turn to a bottle. It was something he’d grown used to, over the years as he grew. A part of him is never sure why his father hated him, maybe because he just looked too much like his mother. As a child he thought he deserved it, every scar as punishment for misbehaving. Many evenings and nights were spent running from his father, only to find solace in tall Sunflowers to hide from the hell he knew in the place he was meant to call home.
Only as he got older did his desire to once run turn into pure hatred for his father. The desire to protect his mother became top priority. It started at school, picking up football as a means to let out his aggression, and when he grew older, used that strength to take blows for his mother as means of keeping her safe. He grew strong, lean, learned to throw a mean right hook. He had friends, and was even considered popular, despite how small the school was. He was young, his whole life ahead of him, hopes of bettering himself through sports and getting his mom out of the hell they lived in.
But it was a dream that would never come to be. Returning home late one night, he found his house in ruins, signs of a struggle when he was off late with friends. Too late to save her, it was mere moments that life seemed to come to a crawl. His father with a broken bottle, coming into contact with his mother’s throat. In a moment his life as he knew it was turned upside down. Paralyzed at the sight of his dying mother, his father, incoherent, came for him next. He couldn’t remember the way the bottle would slice his skin, or how he somehow managed to wrestle it free from him. All he could remember was the anger he felt inside- the sheer bloodlust that consumed him, had him overpower the man that mistreated him for so many years. And in a moment- take the life of the one he was meant to care for. The rest was a blur, blacking out only to wake up to the sound of sirens, his aunt Nancy having come to check on them- only to find him in a pool of his parents blood, face and arms carved open as he lay dying on the floor.
The year that followed was a blur. Nancy took him in as her own, as his closest living relative she took full custody of him. Charges weren’t pressed, due to his age, an act of self defense, knowing his fathers abusive history. Yet the rumors still spread, Johnny, the Frakenstein monster, pieced back together, a murderer, a freak. Outcast. From this, Nancy decided it was a change of pace, a move well needed, a fresh start where no one would know of the terrible things that happened in that town. So they moved to Hawkins, a new chance at life, a chance to meet new friends and erase the past that haunted him.
Tumblr media
So where’s his role in Hawkins? I imagine that once he moves there, he’s essentially the shiny new toy. Coming in sometime later on around or during the events of season 2, everyone is curious about him, from the scars on his body and how mysterious he seems. Some think he’s a killer, that maybe he’s been to jail, but it’s mainly rumor and gossip people try to guess why he looks that way. He quickly joins the football team though, and with it comes popularity. He's handsome, big for his age, and has a warm accent and charm that lures people in- so he’s quick to gain attention. Everyone wants to know him, but few ever get to know the real him. He knows well he’d be thrown in with the freaks, the misfits, so he makes sure to keep his murderous past under lock and key. He mainly hangs out with Billy Hargrove, a sort of rival relationship that also leads him to many parties, flings, and everything that comes with being the center of attention at a new school.
During the events leading into season 3, Johnny during that summer can be found working at his uncle Drayton’s gas station on the outskirts of Hawkins. It is during that time that Johnny becomes one of the first victims to the mindflayer. I imagine the infestation of rats that occurs during that season definitely festers within the basement of the gas station, Johnny works late, investigates noise and the rest is history as he’s turned into a servant for the mindflayer essentially. For Vecna in general he would be a perfect target. But all the sudden people who stop in to get gas suddenly go missing from Hawkins, Johnny unable to help himself as he starts killing his family. Nancy, Drayton, his weird cousins Nubbins and Sissy- then the rest of the innocent people that come regularly to get cheap gas. Johnny who tried so hard to be better, to escape his past, ended up becoming what everyone rumored to be true: a murderer. In a moment of breaking free from his mind control, I can definitely see him having a breakdown over the fact that he became what he feared most. That he is really a killer, despite trying so hard to run from his past. He couldn’t stop from shedding more blood, and for that he would grieve over killing the last of his loved ones.
I imagine he would also sacrifice himself, in a way replacing Billy and saving him from a terrible fate. If El were to have visions or a favorite memory from his mind, it would be one from his childhood, running through fields of sunflowers, being called in by his mom as she stood on the back porch as the sun began to set. Crying over the childhood that was stolen from him, mourning the loss of the person he loved most. And when he would finally die and the mall would burn down, there would be talk of Johnny Sawyer being a murderer after all, that he killed so many people and died burning in the mall, rather than be a hero, saving Billy and others from the mindflayer.
Like I said though I do have other verses for him where he’s more morally aligned just a killer moving into a small town- or verses where he does survive the incident in the mall so he can be a part of season 4 because he would be a perfect victim for Vecna. But yeah, take from this what you will!

idk if this is normal or not but when my brain thinks of idea it likes it can only think of things about that idea and my most recent one has been a tcm au where it’s in the wild west, and it’s such a stupid idea considering chainsaw weren’t really in the wild west(or at least i don’t think they were) but i have no control over what my brain does

i would love to know about angie as an adult……..how does her relationship w the girl change over time & especially like. with sing?????? i love her i’m kissing her head
oh!!!! as an adult adult she's still racing (theres an attempt at a subtle face reveal postcomics that doesnt go as planned skdjfh) and lives with a bunch of the crashtrack medics in a communal house/polycule that they never really bother explaining to anyone. shes SUPER super bad with kids not in a mean way but just in the way that some people dont Get kids. vaya and helen would never ask her to babysit hell's kids. i think she gets top surgery a few years postcomics as well and gets a Few tattoos but only like. six or seven (no clue what they are yet). 7
in terms of the girl! they've got an interesting trajectory imo? like kind of until angie was five or six the age gap was enough that angie was like, yeah the girls little sister but the girl was ALSO a kid so angie was like. a bit of a pet? which sounds really bad but you know how kids like babies and dont always see them as people theyre just cute little things? yeah. and then the girl was like. twelve when sing happened in the closest-to-canon version of angies au so by then shes like. going thru puberty which is a Hard time for anyone and especially for a trans kid even when raised by like. 3.5 trans people.
so the situation going into sing was that the girl was getting a little antsy with the state of things and angie was a bit too young to get why so that was when they were probably the farthest apart? then ofc sing happened and they stayed at the radioshack for a few months before they BOTH just got too antsy to stay. like yes doc and pony were GREAT and doing their best but the girls were both super fucked up abt things (understandable) and the girls a motorbaby so she doesnt like staying still and they were doing a little 'no one knows what we went through' codependency thing (also a little understandable) so they ran together.
and they did that for like. 7 years. just wandering around the zones just the two of them, not necessarily looking for fights but not running from them either and then trading off what they could salvage to TCM for things like food and hairdye. angie started racing (again ? still working that out) when she was like 9 and that complicated their relationship for a bit bc the girl was SO used to moving around by then that having to stay in kinda one place so angie could be close to races uhhhh fuckin sucked. she came back eventually and then they settled into a routine of races and having their home base (garage/autoshop of a torched neutral settlement) and the girl going on drac hunts.
comics happened Roughly the same (with the addition of a fourteen year old who hates val so so much) and post-reforming and all my standard postcanon stuff angie decides not to go travelling with the girl and her mom. for racing reasons but also for it-hurts-seeing-the-girl-with-a-parent-when-mine-are-all-dead reasons. maybe a little bit of resentment there, she's fourteen, sue her. she gets over it pretty quick, all things considered, and they settle into a like. stableish relationship
like. all in all theyre very close but theyre also sisters and theyre also like. deeply traumatized lmao. so they'll fight and they'll run off on each other and they'll crawl into one another's beds when they have nightmares and they'll get in fights on each other's behalf. idk. they love each other

I would like to know reasons (though I think I can guess 12’s)
Under cut for Long, and obviously bodily harm/injury
- Founder and Outsider’s are self explanatory. Watsonian: Founder augmented before starting the band and later helped formalize/standardize the secular/standard mechanization process, and Outsider met Founder onplanet somewhere and converted to the space Mekhanite church before being mechanized standardways. Doylian: if it ain’t broke don’t fix it - Nazarene’s as stigmata is (Watsonian) not actually related to her immortality; considered a prototype drive. Doylian-wise it’s also just the most iconic injury  - Philosopher’s in-universe is a result of suffocation/drowning and out-of-universe was picked bc of his breathing/hyperventilation/drowning motifs in general  - Ambassador Watsonian: had gotten in trouble with a rough crowd that cut his tongue out before getting picked up by the band and mechanized; Doylian: “silver-tongued” metaphor and I also didn’t want to draw a face/skin mechanism  - Forward Watsonian is yet undecided but the Doylian reason is because of the agency fuckery motifs that come with the whole motion control thing and also the general exoskeleton vibe  - Cowboy Watsonian is that he’d fucked his hearing up with firearm use pre-mechanization and Doylian is that he was already similarly afflicted in mainline and the same symbolism applies - Teeth is Teeth in every AU  - Lesser’s Watsonian is also yet undecided and Doylian is that it kinda works with the fact that his muse does stand sometimes but refuses to do so for long periods of time  - Archivist’s in-universe and metaphorical reasons are similar: bone marrow is one of the tissues most immediately damaged by radiation. She’s literally felt Armageddon in her bones (her planet got fucked by nuclear apocalypse and she was dying of radiation damage when she was mechanized) - Bureaucrat has perception fuckery motifs and he cut his own eyes out pre-mechanization upon witnessing [DATA EXPUNGED]. Also he keeps his eyes covered most of the time anyway in most of the stuff I draw with him so it works  - Physician lungs because waterbreathing obviously but less obviously: the TCM associations of lungs with overall circulation of fluids and Qi throughout the body, assumed role in protection from external pathogens, and emotional associations with grief and Letting Go (in his case, of literal memories)  - Tamlin’s was also not intrinsic to her immortality, but rather a cope thereof -- once she stumbled into the time fuckery she was unable to deal with/conceptualize it until she was mechanized! I am going with the hippocampus bc as far as I can tell that is involved with a LOT of memory storage which is a key part of time perception
