Labels, Asexuality, Aromanticism and Headcanon.

I need to just get this off my chest because it's a common trend I've noticed in a couple fandoms I'm in and I think it needs to be discussed. Of course I'm open to discussion on this. There's a chance I'm wrong.

Something about the way fandom treats s/x repulsed characters in media just sits with me bad. In multiple fandoms I've been in now, I've witnessed a clearly stated canonically s/x repulsed asexual character be put into 'intimate' situations under guise of a 's/x positive' interpretation. What bothers me, personally, is that these characters don't and would never. One example is with Jonathan Sims from The Magnus Archives. I have accidentally stumbled across explicit fics involving him before that are tagged 's/x positive asexual Jonathan Sims'. But the thing about him is that at no point in the podcast is he even mentioned to be asexual. In fact, the information you get about him is actually that he simply doesn't. That is all you know, that he doesn't, ever. And yet, due to the nuances of the asexual label and the fact that that description of Jon technically puts him under it, folks have been using those technicalities to put him into scenarios he never would enter into. As much as I hate to say it, it almost feels like there's a sort of s/x repulsed asexual erasure going on within the aspec community. And for context, this is coming from an aspec who is positive about that kind of intimacy. This is not just limited to asexuality either. I've also witnessed this happening to aromantic characters with fandom putting them in 'queer platonic relationships' that read as romantic ones. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a platonic pairing, in fact, I'm all for it. But time and time again I see sappy art with blushing or otherwise romantic undertones and I feel... just sort of weird about it. I understand where this all comes from. People have a desire to see themselves in characters and I respect that. But you can do that without the erasure of both asexuals and aromatics that simply do not. When it comes to being aro and/or ace, I recognise that, I, as someone who, although aspec, is still is open to relationships and 'intimacy', am far less scrutinised for it by society than those who aren't. And although sadly there is barely any representation in media for the kind of aspec I am, it doesn't mean that it feels okay to erase other asexual identities and their representation in the process. Summary: So this is all to say. It personally makes me uncomfortable when I see Repulsed Asexual and Aromatic characters turned pseudo-s/xual and romantic by the fans through the use of Label Nuances and Technicalities. (Note: This is not intended to be an attack on anyone personally. I simply think it's a much needed to be discussed topic that I've noticed happening more and more recently) On a more positive note: For anyone looking for aspec representation that involves a character who loves the idea of romance and has experienced giddy feelings in the past but comes to the realisation they might be aromantic through the help of an aroace friend, go listen to The Penumbra Podcast season 4 episode 'Rita Minute 4: 4Ever Love'. I've never felt so seen in terms of my sexuality before. It's an underrated gem of an aspec central minisode.

So like. Julius Caesar and Pope Gregory XIII don’t exist in the Pokémon universe. So there’s no reason for the Julian or Gregorian calendars to exist. Angels don’t exist in the Pokémon universe either, so the Enoch calendar, but the story behind that is Uriel came down and gave Enoch a calendar with exactly 13 weeks in all four seasons for 364 days.

Black and White confirmed that the Pokémon universe has four seasons, and it’s entirely possible for a human to have created a calendar splitting Arceus’ eighteen Plates throughout the year, each month containing 4 five-day weeks.

And if they did, the months could look something like this:

Summer and Winter have five months because of math Fire and Ice are the Summer and Winter Types. These are explained in-universe as the Supreme (Type) Months, the months in the dead middle of their respective seasons without any dimming or bleeding into the next season. And this is TRUE in the Pokémon universe because (most) people aren’t stupid enough to cause ecological disasters when causing an ecological disaster awakens an all-powerful legendary Pokémon that’s angry at you specifically for causing an ecological disaster! Global warming doesn’t exist! People are afraid of Cappy the Polar Ice Cap Legendary smacking them out of existence!

I’m open to discussion and suggestions about where to shift each type.

Italicized types were considered for a different season, and will be explained more thoroughly.

Underlined types probably won’t be changed without an Astounding Logical Argument that makes me feel stupid for even considering anything else.

Spring:

Animals give birth in the spring and Normal Type Pokémon are based on normal animals.

Fairies are associated with. Um. *flips notes* n. nature. i’m gonna be real with you in every planned-but-not-written explanation of a human sensing fairy type energy i describe it as “smelling wildflowers” and that’s all that went through my head.

Poisonous animals like frogs and snakes and the like. They hibernate. They come out of hibernation in the spring. Yay! This could easily be Winter for the same reason PLUS the fact that you store poisons in cold, sometimes freezing, temperatures.

Electric likely will not change. Thunderstorms happen most frequently in the spring months, because of the moisture and the heat present in the air. Electric could have easily been a Summer Type but I figured that because it rains more frequently in the spring because of snowmelt (“April Showers … May Flowers”), it would be easy to rationalize thunderstorms happening more often in the Spring in Pokéland.

Summer:

Grass and Bug were both considered for Spring because of the whole winter melts away and grass blooms and whatnot and then of course once the plants bloom it attracts the bugs. If I were going to change these two Grass would go to Spring and Bug would stay in Summer maybe.

But I ended up choosing Summer for these two because the summer sun makes the Grass grow and also all the other plants and then the heat and humidity brings all the Bugs to the yard. and they’re like. your sweat is tasty. why do bugs swarm humans we’re so much bigger than them.

Fire is unlikely to change. It’s the Sound of Summer. Summer hot. Sun go brr. Heat Wave Waves Heatingly. Etcetera.

You use fires to forge Steel. Or something along those lines. Honestly I just pulled that out of my butt, I was thinking about Heatran and like Heatran is a legendary and sub Steel. Volcanos or whatever.

THE FLAMES OF YOUTH IGNITE WITHIN FIGHTING TYPES and that’s why they’re in the summer. If you try to fight in the winter you like. Cramp up or something right? Is that bias? I hate winter it causes my body pain.

Autumn

Psy. chic? Fall Season is. appropriately. brain. y. (this is literally my favorite type i was NOT going to put it into the Evil Winter Season. die winter. i hope the global warms faster i’d rather drown than freeze.)

Flying was unlikely to change... however, migration plus tornadoes sneason was my initial thought. But Tornadus-Therian Searion is actually in the spring and migration is a two way street, the birds come back in the pringles. I might just. Switch Flying and Poison. If you Aggron Agree with switching Flying with Poison let me know in the comments.

You know how you run out of spaces and a type just HAS to go into a slot? Luckily I only had one of those. Unlucky it was Dragon. You smart folks probably have a better idea as to what Dragon should switch into but unless you have a good reason as to why the second Type should switch out, don’t @ me (or do @ me I like the attention).

Winter

Mountains are wintery and snowy because they’re so tall. And do you know what mountains are made of? …You do? Can you tell me, I’m lost, I thought they were made of chocolate but they don’t melt in the summer time so that idea’s washed…

Ghost was originally in the Fall, because Spooky Halloween, except not only could October totally be in the Winter now that I’m in charge of the calendar, and if it can’t, then Halloween doesn’t have to be a Fall holiday, it can be a winter holiday!

Ice? Ice. Baby.

Do you know how Dark it gets during the winter? How quickly it gets Dark? Even if we eliminate Daylight Savings (and we are eliminating Daylight Savings) the Equinox still happens in Winter. Days are still shorter. Darker. Sneasel type.

Water is unlikely to change. Like, it was initially in the spring because “oh look the ice is melting it’s time for spring” no bitch that shit cold. the ocean is cold. even during the summer the lakes are cold. it’s at the end of Winter towards the Spring side of things but That Shit Cold.

and that’s it that’s all i have does anyone have ideas for month names or day names aren’t the months named after like. emperors or something. should we name the months after legendaries. If someone comes up with a month name that’s a palindrome that starts with Ho and ends with oh I’ll give you $10. Call that a fiction commission.

A small detail in episode 5…

I keep thinking about the way ep5 revealed that a star plasma vessel replacement was found. No build-up, no explanation, just an off-hand, casual comment from Yuki who’s about to leave on her motorcycle.

I think it just shows how Geto and Gojo’s traumatic experiences amounted to nothing in the end. Everything they went through to fulfil that mission only to find out that the tragic loss wasn’t necessary at all? They barely escaped with their lives: One of them ended up with severe ptsd and depression, the other became obsessed with getting stronger so that he can’t fail like that ever again— and yet no one even cared enough to tell them that it would be alright, to at least inform them that their fuck up would not spell the end of the world. They were left to flounder in the darkness of their mistakes with no means to navigate it.

And to think that all this could’ve been avoided if they had been briefed from the get-go that there were multiple candidates for the new vessel. These teens took this mission with the false knowledge that the world was on their shoulders, only to be cast aside and labelled insignificant because of their failures— their mental and emotional well-being completely neglected bc the higher-ups simply saw them as dispensable tools.

Tldr: these teens were thrust into a world where no one bothered to help them develop a healthy emotional response to the tragedy that goes hand in hand with being a sorcerer. And I want to kick the shins of the damn people that made the system

why can’t qforever understand that cellbit and jaidens action are very different. and bads relationship with both of them are very different. it makes sense for bad to have more trust in jaiden than he ever did with cellbit.

cellbit was upfront saying to others he wants to stay on the island and was attacked by the code which infamously attacks anyone who supports the federation. both of which are incredibly alarming and were purposefully meant to be damaging to his reputation with others so they keep a distance.

meanwhile jaiden was very clear to others about what was going on and has even shown her missions to the others. she has actively asked for help from others to complete said missions. she isn’t creating a distance or attempting to lie to anybody.

the situation may have some parallels with the missions but overall they are very different

i recently joined a server dedicated for autistic people to both discuss autism and just chat and share things in general

a problem i immediately noticed was that there wasn’t a venting channel and a channel to ask for advice and considering the main core of the server i found that those channels are quite necessary and very much needed

i was discussing troubles getting diagnosed with another person and the stigma around the term “autism” itself and basically letting the person vent to me about everything when we were interrupted by another person in the server saying :

“this is getting a bit heavy, let’s keep it light, okay?”

now there’s nothing particularly wrong with that statement itself but once again considering that this server is dedicated to autism there is going to be some heavy discussions to be had, but then the same person followed up with :

“i just don’t want this server to be depressing”

and that’s when the irritation started to build up. the main thought going through my head was “autism is depressing” and taking away the ability to fully discuss this and vent (very important) will simply lead to internalizing of the hardest things to deal with when it comes to autism

considering that the person stated that they wanted this server to be a “positive space” seemed once again ironic considering autism isn’t all butterflies and rainbows and if your going to make a server focused on autism then you can’t just pick and choose which parts to talk about

i proceeded to ask some questions and tried to find the deeper meaning as to why they were saying these things and after the response was “i just don’t like the vibe” i became genuinely pissed off at that point because not. everything. is. about. you.

then i suggested making a venting channel for the second time after being shut down initially after joining the server because “those channels usually get very messy” and while i do agree they do get messy, venting is generally messy in and of itself so that does make perfect sense as to why that is

once again the idea was shut down by the person but was picked up again by the person was initially talking/venting to me and said that they would make a new server dedicated solely to venting

i was still slightly upset that they couldn’t just add a venting channel instead of making a person who isn’t even apart of staff to go out of their way to make a new server, but regardless there was a place for venting and i took that as a half-assed win and continued the previous vent in the new server

the reason i wanted to make this post was because venting itself is a positive thing if done in a positive environment and accepting people to talk to while doing it, and considering that the server was supposed to be a “positive” place it seemed natural for a venting channel to be there

autism itself can be depressing, it can be infuriating, it can leave you feeling worthless and taking away the place to talk about that? that will do nothing but force the person to bottle it up and since it’s autism i doubt they’ll ever let it out because there very rarely is a safe place/person to talk about it to, and it will crumble them from the inside out

the minute we acknowledge that the only way to positivity is through working our way through negativity is when the true conversations can start taking place

There's a parallel between the destruction of castle byers in the ud and ru that's tapping at the back of my brain. Something about the relationship between the two and how will interacts with both. A smudge between them that changed the rules for him wherever he is. Foreshadowing something i can't see at all. It seems important but every time I turn to look at it is gone. Do you have any theories on those scenes? The tapping is insistent. Please save me from the tapping.

The way I always saw it with those two scenes is that they're sort of like bookends.

Castle Byers being destroyed in the UD was the beginning, where his safety/innocence/childhood was destroyed initially. He becomes a victim here. He can't fight it, he isn't an active participant...he's barely even conscious at that point. It's a forcible destruction, and he's the passive victim who can't fight back.

Castle Byers in the RSU was the completion of that arc with him accepting that he can't go back to the way things were before the UD. It's interesting because this time he's almost hyperaware, while also being the sole participant. There is no destructive outside force destroying it around him. The only force at work here is him and the force of his grief as he comes to acceptance re: his stolen childhood.

I see it as him going from victim to survivor, too, if that makes sense? The wording might be a bit off but this is the best I have rn haha

The RSU destruction of Castle Byers is a physical manifestation of his pain/trauma re: the UD, and it's the turning point from him being a passive victim to an active survivor. It's him taking the reins on his life, as much as he can within the situation. It's painful, and it's destructive, and it's heartbreaking, but it neeeded to happen. It's him accepting that it's over now, and that he needs to put that era (pre-UD) of his life away and step into the present.

After Castle Byers, we see him take a bigger role in the fighting/plotting. He's instrumental in planning and executing the Sauna Test, he's picking out explosives and launching them at the Fleshflayer with Lucas, and even into S4 he's actively moving the plot in ways that counter Henry/the UD.

tl;dr: The UD destruction of Castle Byers is the beginning of Will's passive victim era, the DnD game/rain fight was his wakeup call, and the RSU destruction of Castle Byers is the end of that arc as he moves into an active role.

Side Note: Season 3 as a whole is basically Will Byers's 5 stages of grief, imo. The him asking to play DnD is denial, the actual DnD game is bargaining, the rain fight is anger, Castle Byers is anger -> depression, and post-Castle Byers is acceptance.

In S4 we see Will putting his life back together with pieces of his old one. He's accepted that a broken plate glued together can be just as useful and beautiful as a brand new one. It's not entirely over, he didn't die, he still has a purpose, things to live for. He can still engage in his favorite hobbies and strive to be happy, he's just accepted that it's not going to look exactly the way he thought it would.

The notion in some GC circles that you can immediately tell if someone is trans just by appearance or not is… flawed and I dislike it. Certainly, some trans people are painfully obvious to everyone.

However, some trans people pass insanely well and to pretend like you would ever ID them correctly seems silly and disingenuous. On the flip side, some females (like those with hormone imbalances or detrans women) are often clocked as male. It weakens other valid arguments that radfems and GCs have.

This may be a controversial take, but I kind of think if you pass as male or female to 80+% of humans, I don’t have an issue with you using things like your preferred bathroom. There’s always going to be some variance in sex presentation, and as long as you’re there to shit and get out I don’t care. Punish individual offenders in bathrooms if they start creeping on people there.

More of my issue with female-passing trans women lies within advantages that they’ve received growing up as male and their poor socialization, e.g. getting tech scholarships and relying on female social networks without being a good listener or knowing basic empathy. I think that a social line needs to be drawn more clearly between trans women, even those who pass, and natal females.

A lot of trans women I know who pass well are still insanely misogynistic, but because they’re allowed to openly call themselves “one of the girls” in daily life and can eviscerate you for disagreeing with them, they’re protected from ever having to change their sexist views.

This is also an issue that you actually more accurately can determine natal sex in, since bathroom encounters are short and nonverbal; in daily life and repeated relationships or formal procedures, you can learn more about someone’s life (oh, you look masculine because you transitioned at 18 and are now detransitioning, etc).

Anyways, yeah, you can’t necessarily tell someone’s sex by just looking at them. This isn’t to say that I think creepy autogynephilic men should be allowed in female sex spaces, but as long as someone is being quiet and polite in the bathroom I’m really not that interested in dying on that hill.

Hello postal fandom, got a topic of discussion for y’all.

Dude and names. So in my fic series I’m writing, I use three names to distinguish between the three Dudes in DIDude - D (P1), Dude (P2) and Alt (P3). The first two I don’t need to mess around with, it’s Alt that I have a problem about, because I’ve written him as hating basically any nickname given to him, which is just a canon fact about p3 (he’d use his real name if he could remember it.) So I was planning to actually give him a name at some point in TTSD. Problem is I’m not sure if it would fit or not? Cuz the whole thing is that at this point Alt wants to be recognised as more than just a guy in Dude’s head, he wants to be treated like any other person.

The only name I can think of would be Corey as a nod to his voice actor, I really don’t have any other ideas and I’m not sure if its even something to consider? As I could just leave it as Alt, but hnnnggnngg.

Idk, feel free to discuss the whole “giving Dude(s) a name” and if anyone has actually named any of them before and what they were/or if it might be better to just leave them as they are (so just keep Alt in my case :p)
