about me

hi all! i decided I’d finally write out a little introduction as well as rp guidelines, it’s long overdue <3

i go by nix or nixxie, she/her and im 21! im in the cst timezone. a few fandoms im in include stranger things, the walking dead, spree, and supernatural. i really love to write, and im always coming up with new ideas. im a huge fan of joe keery and it’ll become obvious very fast haha.

roleplay guidelines

so first, I’ll only roleplay with you if you’re eighteen or older. please don’t bother messaging me if you’re under eighteen, you’re just wasting your time because I won’t respond.

I only roleplay on discord in private servers. we can chat in tumblr dms for a bit to get to know each other and make sure we click, then I’ll give you my discord user! i usually don’t post it everywhere just to avoid getting random requests all day that never end up even talking to me, i’d prefer chatting before hand <3

i don’t have any triggers, but please tell me yours and i will respect them.

i do double up. i mainly do oc x cc, sometimes I’ll do oc x oc but I’ll rarely if ever do cc x cc. it’s just not my thing personally and i get bored of it rather quickly.

i love plotting and headcannoning, we can plot as much as you would like! i also love talking ooc and making friends with my rp partners. I don’t mind chatting between replies or even just talking if you feel like taking a break from replies!

i love romance plots, and angst, hurt/comfort, horror, tragedy, darker themes are all stuff i enjoy doing. of course I don’t mind sweeter stuff like general romance and fluff! honestly im down for anything.

if we share the same love interest, i don’t mind doubling up and writing as the same love interest for you! we can just gush about them together, i dont mind at all!

WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER?

I don’t have OTP’s, just ships that I dig or might like the possibility/development for! This is also hard to answer since I am a multi lmfao.

I’ll admit for Locke I have a soft spot w him and Buck or Tanaka. Or both, idfk. Jack and Thane - obvsly Shep’s a solid choice. I kinda ??? contemplate the idea of Jack & Tali bc shotgun ladies. And maybe Jack and Ashley or Vega (or both?) bc... muscle 🤷‍♂️

HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?

I’m not fond of age gaps but in a general sense, within 10 years is my limit. I also realize things can get confusing with long-lifespans/immortality/etc so in those instances I prefer that the younger party is at least 27-30+ where they’re fully matured/developed/independent and are capable of making informed, consenting decisions. In a more specific example, Jack would be the youngest at 24. I wouldn’t have her in a ship with anyone over 34.

HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFW?

I think at any point where there’s undressing or talk of genitals/arousal then it’s nsfw lmao.

I’d prefer that yeah. :) I usually don’t push for or initiate ships because I don’t want to make assumptions/overstep things lol. I will say that unless there’s good chemistry or tension between our characters I might decline because I think that’s a basis needed for any fun ship development.

More-or-less. I’m particular and admittedly biased towards certain tropes/story beats. I struggle with mindless fluff so nix that. Gimme battle couples and ones that snark at each other (affectionately/loathedly)

This is kinda hard to answer though since I’m in multiple fandoms but I think so long as it’s not toxic/squicky/problematic I roll with it. 👋 I got things I lean towards for my Shep and SoSu but that’s all secret just bc I get self conscious with my OC’s. 🤐

My Opinion on;

Character in general: uh, which one???? there are many and I haven’t interacted with all of them but i know I will love them all. I think I’ve mostly written with Bucky, Steve, and Keanu consistently. Though I also got talk to Cam I think on my other blog? But, we love all the characters in this house. Bucky and Steve are *chef’s kiss* and Keanu?????? wow, i did not see him coming out of there, i mean i love his ass, and so does andy *smirk emoji* although bucky said if he calls him a cyborg again--he’s getting it!!! XD

How they play them: ahflksafh PLS how can you ask me to describe????? listen, bucky and steve--theirs specifically make me weak. Not in a favoritism sort of way cause I don’t play favorites. But like we see our characters very similarily and share a lot of the same issues with how the are portrayed in media and stuff. So it’s just a *vibe* and I know I’m like very safe to just run with whatever my characters want without it being considered ‘ooc’ to Nix. And you might think that has nothing to do with how a person plays another character but it really does. I feel like Nix really *gets* Bucky and Steve both and I hear their voices in each reply on this level I can’t explain. I also feel like Keanu is just...like...wow???? personality for days and such a little shit. But not in that way where you don’t want to deal with him at all? Not like overly obnoxious?? I think Nix does a lot of balancing tbh. They all aren’t too one way or the other. It’s right in the middle which is a hard spot to find tbh.

As some of you know, I base most, if not all, of my muses in a fictional small town. If they don’t live there, they grew up there or have passed through at some point. I like to world build and mention npcs, businesses, etc etc.

Long story short, populating a town is fun but a lot. That and I tend to lean certain directions with character’s names, personalities, etc.

So, i have an idea. It might be reckless. It might be boring. I don’t know. But I’ve seen this done on story based podcasts as an initiative based thing and thought it could possibly be fun. I wanna open up my ask/submission box to npc ideas. I’ll provide a form below and if your interested in tossing some my way, fill it out and send it in.

FAQ:

Will you use every one? I’ll try to but I reserve the right not to.

Will you change anything about them? I reserve the right to change things, but I’ll try and hit you up first. If it’s not something your cool with, I’m cool with that. I either won’t change it or won’t use it.

What if I create one and decide I don’t want you to use them? Shoot me a message. I’ll nix them from my list.

Happy New Year! Let's hope it's a good one. Last year I made a long heartfelt post for New Years and Tumblr ate it...maybe it was an omen. Lmao. Anyway this year I'll keep it simple by sending love to my mutuals!

Hi folks! Thanks so much for all your kind words and understanding this week. It means a lot to me!

In stepping back a little bit and quieting down my dash this week, one thing I chose to do is nix Tumblr Messaging. I mean, it’s... gone.

hello, my name is wolf & this is an independent portrayal of supernatural’s castiel. while i do canon upon request [i have only watched the show up to mid season 10 or 11, and am familiar with how the show ends] or based on the character i’m interacting with, i mainly stick to an au version that nixes both vessel lore and his fall into a human. i have played this muse for a long time, and while i do have a certain view of him that will reflect in the portrayal, i am highly protective of him and will not hesitate to take him out of a situation i am not comfortable in. memes and starter calls are open to everyone, and continuation of asks is always accepted to start threads. Ear to the Ground: Despite spending most of the day at the Quicksand. He is actually listening out for certain information that would lead him to things of interest. What those things are only for those who have proven reliable and loyal enough to keep close to the chest.

Engarde: Since he is blind, he would find getting around a place as unfeeling as Ul’dah difficult. So he is also interested in hiring three bodyguards, for some reason females.

Drinking Buddy: Despite the first two points, he is always happy to chat with whoever approaches him. Though he mainly drinks tea, he wouldn’t begrudge anyone who wanted to drink something stiffer around him.

Companion Piece: Also looking for others to aid him in the building of a Free Company. But requires time to get to know a person.

OOC I AM...

Fairly laid back and relaxed for the most part. I do not care much for erp and I am slightly bad at keeping a conversation going. But, if provided with enough to go on I can ramble for some time.

I do not care much for permanent injury, death, or actual combat roleplay in Genixma’s current state (hence the hiring of bodyguards)

Preferred method of contact is by /tell or discord to set up a meeting. But, if you walk up to Genixma while he is at the tavern and I am not afk for a moment, I am more than willing to respond.

The application is the first part of the process. Occasionally with the aid of a hopefuls chat, it’s how mods get to know muses and muns before the group is finalized. Both the mods’ design of the app and the muns’ filling out of the app are pretty important to making sure a good roster can be put together with minimal pain.

Not all apps have the same sections to fill out or the same requirements for each section. Sections like Character Name or Backstory are pretty much on every single app, while other sections such as Likes/Dislikes and sometimes even Personality may not always be on there. It’s up to the discretion of the mods.

Mun Info

What Is It?: A section for information on the mun. Generally includes name/handle, pronouns, and triggers, and may also include time zone (for scheduling purposes), blacklist/greylist, and squicks.

Notes

Yeahhh, this section is pretty much necessary for all apps. It would be really awkward to not know who’s actually writing these characters. It’s also useful for lowering the odds of OOC drama.

Different groups treat triggers and squicks differently. Sometimes squicks are avoided in the OOC chat and triggers just need to be tagged, sometimes both need to be tagged in posts, and sometimes both are just lumped together in a masterlist. Obviously it’s important to note however they’re handled if you don’t want to make people unduly uncomfortable or worse.

Some apps may have a slot for blacklisted muns, and some may just figure you would list anything like that in an Other section. Either way, if there’s another mun you don’t get along with for one reason or another, be sure to list them. It may affect your chances of getting in, but it’s not worth getting into a group if you’re going to spend the whole time worrying about that other mun. IMO, having a specific blacklist section makes cross-checking apps easier for the mods.

Core Muse Info

What Is It?: The name, gender, appearance, talent, personality, bio, and central beliefs of the muse. This is what sets muses apart from each other and is the central part of the application. That being said, some parts of this section can still be added or subtracted if deemed appropriate.

Notes

Different mods will be more or less worried about appearances when it comes to app judging. It can be hard to compare across apps due to (completely valid) differences in drawing ability, image quality, only having a written description available, etc. Having a clean, detailed image and/or an appearance that reflects important aspects of the character or just like a really cute DreamSelfy can leave positive impressions, though.

Some mods prefer to limit numbers of muses with aliases or foreign origins on the roster. The same goes for fake talents, but including a lot of those can get a little weird, especially if someone’s fake talent is the same as/similar to someone else’s real talent. In general, you really don’t want duplicate talents, possibly with the exception of Reserve Course, which isn’t acceptable to all RPs, anyway. Some mods also like some kind of gender balance in the final roster, so sometimes you might get a liiiittle better odds by watching the hopefuls list and applying a rarer gender, but this isn’t always true, either. Just make sure the FAQ covers these sorts of things.

The personality section can be of different lengths and detail levels, and some RPs may accept bullet points or require specific personality aspects or details. Sometimes this section is nixed altogether if mods feel the other app questions should give them a good enough impression of the character’s personality, though I wouldn’t recommend this personally. Just be sure to provide the information asked for, and make sure it makes sense in the context of the backstory.

The same pretty much goes for the backstory/private bio. Just make sure it makes sense with the personality, and hopefully at least one of the two is unique enough to generate interest. There’s nothing wrong with plain/normal kinds of OCs, but you wouldn’t expect to see several of these in one roster. Also be sure any mod triggers listed on the blog are tagged in these. If your backstory has triggers for every mod, you might be better off apping that muse somewhere else, where someone can actually read the whole backstory.

Public bios have been popular but are still not on every app. These are pretty much always paragraph form, and different groups ask for different lengths. They can be a pain to come up with sometimes, and they can get pretty sticky in cases of fake talents or ???s, but they can also be helpful for conveying information that other characters could be expected to know and get an impression from before the game starts. If you put this section on an app, just be sure they’re eventually actually public on the blog/in the chat somewhere or they’re pretty much pointless busy work.

Muse Miscellany

What Is It?: A smattering of questions with less complex answers than personality/backstory. There’s definitely no golden standard for these, though questions related to motives and Monomachine items are common. Also includes likes/dislikes, favorite things/words, and who knows what else. Filling out some of these may be optional.

Notes

These usually aren’t as tough as the other parts of the app, but they can still be a pain if the app requires a ton of them. It’s best to keep this part fairly short, though it should still ask for anything the mods foresee being important in that specific game.

Some of these, like strengths/weaknesses and likes/dislikes, can be good for making the mun think a little harder about their muse. This can make poor characterization more obvious, but a lot of the time this isn’t super necessary information.

Monomachine items are in most apps and can be tricky to come up with. They’re good for revealing lore that your muse may not voluntarily bring up, for providing something that might brighten your muse’s no-good very bad day, or just for memeing. A lot of the time, activity at the Monomachine or local equivalent tapers off much more quickly than activity in general, so it may be better to require a smaller number of these so the interesting ones have a chance to be released into the wild.

It’s also good to have questions about common motives or unique motives the mods plan to use in the RP (most important person/item, biggest secret, etc.). It can provide mods with a good idea of what motives might be effective for a good portion of the roster. Especially when muns may be slow to respond OOC, it’s good to have this information already on hand.

On that note, it may be a good idea to ask for smaller details (shoe size, hand size, etc.) that may be relevant for investigations with bloody footprints or things like that. It is very hard to get this information from everyone later if it happens to come up, but sometimes people get a little confused or don’t really know what to put for such specific details on the app, so it’s a mixed bag.

I personally (and I’ve seen it on other apps, too) like to include a question about whether a muse is more likely to be a killer, victim, or survivor and why. If you’re trying to keep the app short, this could be cut, but it’s good to have a balanced roster that isn’t all innocent babies who would never hurt anyone or all seasoned criminals who will probably kill someone before the KG is even announced. It’s also good for when volunteers aren’t forthcoming and you’d rather make sure murders can be IC than just 100% random/fair.

Sometimes this kind of information is to be answered IC, like in an interview. In these cases, you might want to make a note if the character’s answer is truthful or not and why.

Prompts

What Is It?: The bane of muns around the world, it’s a section of questions requiring longer, paragraph answers written in third-person like RP posts. Sometimes applicants are provided an array of prompts and can choose from them, sometimes specific prompts are required, and sometimes this section consists of only one prompt or is absent, though this is rare.

Notes

This section takes a lot of time, but it’s the best indicator of a mun’s writing ability for the purposes of the RP. They can be a huge pain to fill out, and some common prompts may be difficult to write a juicy response to, so it’s best to ask for the absolute minimum. Zero-prompt apps exist and can work out, but I wouldn’t care for that as a mod.

Execution prompts in particular can give muns a lot of pause, and I can personally say I’ve given up on an app that was otherwise finished just because I couldn’t come up with an execution. It may be reasonable to cut this prompt to save a lot of pain; however, it’s really best to have these on hand from the start. They can be very hard to get later, and they’re kind of important to DR games.

MM/traitor prompts should be required for those applying for that position. This kind of question might fit in a different section so it doesn’t have to be written like an RP post, but in general it’s hard to pick out a mastermind if you don’t know the deets of why they would start a killing game. You don’t necessarily have to ask for an MM speech, but you should at least know if this would be a satisfying plot twist and/or fit with the game’s lore.

The ability to choose from a list of prompts can help when a mun doesn’t feel very inspired to write about, say, the muse waking up in such-and-such location with no idea how they got there, or when filling out that prompt doesn’t convey the muse’s personality particularly well. On the other hand, asking for everyone to fill out the same prompt(s) makes it easier to directly compare hopefuls.

On that note, I like having less standard prompts, like reactions to not getting a Starbucks order right or how a muse would deal with a crazy roommate. While these can be tricky to come up with if you don’t want to just rip them off from other apps (which you prrrrobably shouldn’t without permission), coming up with unique situations can help muns more easily demonstrate the personalities of their muses instead of blandly answering the same old questions. That being said, these can be a little weird to work with if the muse would never go to Starbucks and/or leave their house in general.

Conclusion

No two games have the same app, and no two should. Applications are important for getting to know enough information to put together a roster that’s going to work out both IC and OOC. They also gather information for later use in the RP, when muses may be harder to get ahold of or have less time to answer questions. Mods just need to ask for what information they think they’ll need, and muns just need to try to provide it. It’s impossible to foresee everything you’ll need, but asking for every piece of info you could possibly have use for would make a longer app than anyone would be willing to fill out.

⊰ ⋆ MISSÃO #001 ⋆ ⊱ SWALLOWING THE UNIVERSE

Por mais que as férias cheguem, o movimento na Academia Nebel jamais cessa. Entre heróis já formados entrando e saindo de seus quartéis generais em busca de missões, alunos visitando seus pais no Salão Apoteótico e professores em constante vigília das fendas dimensionais, existem poucos momentos de calmaria no campus. Para atingir o completo silêncio é comum que alguns alunos peçam paredes à prova de som para seus quartos, já que até as noites costumam ser agitadas pelos que preferem trabalhar escondidos pelo véu de Nix. Mas nem mesmo quilos e quilos de revestimento acústico seria capaz de bloquear o alarme de emergências: um sinal que nunca havia tocado em Nebel, mas indicava que algo grande havia acontecido.

Passando de quarto em quarto, os responsáveis pelas equipes juntaram-nas na praça principal do campus para receber maiores informações sobre a situação. Um telão holográfico exibia as fendas dimensionais espalhadas pelo mundo, brilhando em tons purpúreos, emanando partículas escuras que se condensavam com o ar. As imagens não eram nenhuma novidade aos olhos dos heróis em treinamento. Alguns haviam visto os portais de perto durante seu surgimento. Todavia, agora as bordas dos rasgos haviam adquirido aspecto translúcido, lentamente crescendo e engolindo a paisagem ao seu redor. E de dentro dos insanos portais surgiam criaturas que muitos achavam ser apenas fruto da imaginação popular.

Embora muitos alunos dali nunca tivessem saído em missão, já era tempo de fazê-lo. Mesmo os casos considerados perigosos receberam aval para combater. As equipes se organizaram rapidamente e se dividiram para cobrir a maior área possível durante o ataque:

EQUIPE ANDRÔMEDA: Diretamente mandados para A Acrópole em Atenas, Grécia. Lá existem quimeras e harpias atacando os cidadãos. Enquanto os monstros aéreos capturam vítimas em rasantes, as quimeras cospem fogo em construções ao redor. Mas as garras de uma harpia brilham mais do que as de suas irmãs, pois ela carrega uma joia azulada incrustada na própria pele. Talvez seja apenas uma ilusão, mas parece que os outros monstros se reúnem especificamente em volta da harpia com a joia para protegê-la. Não pode ser uma coincidência tão grande. O objetivo da equipe é acabar com os monstros e apanhar a joia.

EQUIPE ARCTURUS: Diretamente mandados para o Parque Vigeland em Oslo, Noruega. O desafio seria mais baseado em números e força do que qualquer coisa, visto que centenas de Draugr cercavam um pedestal no qual uma joia brilhando em laranja vivo descansava. Draugr são zumbis nórdicos, erguidos de seus túmulos por uma força maligna que reinava seus corpos. As criaturas possuem força sobre-humana e a capacidade de aumentar seu tamanho e densidade ao seu bel prazer. Exalam um cheiro forte podridão, mantém certo nível de inteligência e sentem prazer com o sofrimento de suas vítimas. Não é necessário muito para entender que eles estão protegendo a joia alaranjada, então o objetivo principal é acabar com as criaturas e abrir caminho até o artefato.

EQUIPE HYDRUS: Diretamente mandados para o Qutb Minar em Nova Deli, Índia. Lá, milhares de cidadãos pareciam estar em transe, todos rígidos e olhando para um ponto fixo de lugar nenhum. Ao chegar, os membros são envolvidos por visões causadas por um Vetala, visando fazê-los atingir a completa insanidade. O Vetala está no cemitério mais próximo e pode ser reconhecido por ter as mãos viradas para trás, com um corpo meio humano e meio morcego de um metro e meio de altura. Se olhar diretamente para seu rosto, é possível perceber que no lugar de um dos olhos ele possui uma pedra brilhando em tom dourado. O objetivo de vocês é escapar da ilusão através de sua força de vontade, acabar com a criatura e apanhar a joia.

EQUIPE LILIUM: Diretamente mandadas para Pirogovo em Kiev, Ucrânia. No instante em que colocaram seus pés na cidade acabaram atormentadas por visões de seus piores medos e memórias causadas por uma Likhoradka. A criatura é conhecida por gostar de possuir vítimas e causar doenças severas, neste momento estando focada em causar uma febre tão alta que provoca alucinações na equipe Lilium. Ela possui a forma de uma velha e carrega um cajado, no qual está uma joia de brilho vermelho. Seu objetivo é escapar da febre, utilizar suas últimas forças para acabar com a Likhoradka e apanhar a joia que ela carrega.

EQUIPE VULPECULA: Diretamente mandados para Boo-Kap em Cidade do Cabo, África do Sul. Em meio ao colorido bairro um Impudulu gigante montou seu ninho colossal e ataca qualquer um que se aproximar. O pássaro pode invocar trovões, raios e tempestades, além de beber sangue de pessoas. Algumas partes do pássaro e seus ovos possuem propriedades medicinais. Inclusive, entre estes já citados ovos é possível ver um brilho esverdeado: uma joia refulgindo ardentemente. O objetivo da equipe é lutar contra o pássaro e conseguir apanhar a joia entre os ovos gigantes.

EQUIPE COLUMBA, PERSEUS & SCORPIUS: Diretamente mandados para Harajuku em Tóquio, Japão. As equipes foram misturadas porque necessitam executar uma tarefa árdua: reconhecer os monstros entre os habitantes. Harajuku fica em Shibuya e é uma das regiões mais agitadas de Tóquio, ainda mais devido as tubulações que começaram a explodir em todos os pontos do bairro desde o início da noite. Dizem que os espíritos viajam mais rapidamente pela água, então este é um cenário próspero para a aparição de fantasmas, que estão escondidos entre os habitantes e o usual caos geral. Da assustadora Kuchisake-Onna de boca cortada até a conhecida Oshiroibaba com seu pó compacto, todos os espíritos do tradicional folclore japonês foram soltos pelas ruas e estão espalhando horror entre os nipônicos. O objetivo das equipes é encontrar estes espíritos, neutralizá-los através de punhados de sal e das orações que lhes foram cedidas pela diretoria e encontrar uma pedra de tom arroxeado que está em posse de algum deles.

so i went back into my discord history to dig up some meta i wrote a while back about briala. alice, nixe, mo, merc, and cay have all already read this, but i feel like a lot of it is really important to my characterization and i want it on my blog. maybe someday i’ll format it to read in a less disjointed, chat-style way, but for now -- have 1600+ words about briala’s backstory, i guess?

cw: lots of emotional abuse and gaslighting, lots of character death

im having a mood abt the tactics celene might have used to keep briala on her side when they were fighting and aaugh

bc i think a lot about the scene at the beginning of TME where bria is getting sexually harassed by a palace guard and the fact that nobody in that scene, briala included, acts like its anything particularly abnormal. that worries me

i mean. celene killed her damn parents. i dont think encouraging a guard to harass briala from time to time to make herself look like a saint in comparison is beyond her

and i have this mental image of briala being hurt in some way, nothing serious, a bruise here or there from someone other than celene, deliberately caused to send her running back to the empress who will make it all better

to give briala someone to hate instead of celene

to give celene the opportunity to 'make it up' to her

because i dont believe for a second that celene, grand player of the Game that she is, wouldn't stoop that low

she would do anything in her power to keep briala

because she is too dangerous, she knows too much

my headcanon is that when celene tried to send her away to live with the Dalish, it wasn't for her own protection

it was to keep her from ever realizing the truth of what happened the night her parents died, because it could destabilize celene's grip on power

and when Briala came back, well, she had to come up with another plan. and she cared for Briala enough that she didn't want to just kill her. so she made her into an intensely loyal asset

so i think any time Briala started to turn on her, started to want to leave her service even a little, she would do something to make herself look like the good guy again

the thing i always think about

Briala was supposed to be killed that night along with her parents

it wasn't 'all the servants except briala' it was 'all the servants'. the fact that she survived was pure luck, and the fact that celene didn't just have her killed after that point was because. well. Celene was a 16 year old lesbian about to ascend the throne of one of the most powerful countries in Thedas. One might imagine her a bit lonely.

im pretty sure she knew sending briala away was sending her to likely bandits or death by starvation

but she didn't have to feel so personally responsible for that

its easy to kill a palace full of servants whose names you dont know

theyre just numbers on a piece of parchment saying how many bodies you have to clean up

briala made herself real to celene and that makes her harder to kill

because she could have just killed her right then herself

but celene never had the stomach for killing people herself. she just gives the orders.

and so when faced with that situation, with her personal handmaiden traumatized, crying, covered in her parents' blood saying 'they're all dead', the smart thing to do would have been to kill her. but celene didn't do that. she just sent her away to near-certain death instead.

Briala is incredibly dangerous to Celene

especially post-TME, post realization of exactly how Celene orchestrated her rise to power

she is the only one who knows that Celene's claim on the throne is truly illegitimate, no matter how much Gaspard tries to argue it

not only did she have her own palace servants murdered

she had the emperor assassinated

which i think everyone misses?

she had him assassinated and then staged the murder of her palace servants to paint herself as an innocent victim who just happened to not be there that night

thats why all the palace servants were killed

so that suspicion would not fall on her for Florian's murder

the point was to make it look like the same assassins who went after her uncle were also going after her

when in reality she was the one calling the shots all along

i did briefly toy with writing a verse where Briala never met Felassan, where she made it to the Dalish safe at 14 years old and tried to become one of them

but the fact is that the moment he sent her back to Celene was a defining moment for her, something that fundamentally changed her, and she wouldn't have been anywhere near the same person without that

it told her, right there and right then, subtextually and insidiously, that the cause was the most important thing, more than her safety - because she knew it was dangerous being anywhere near the Empress-to-be, she wasn't stupid. she didn't even really know what the cause was at that point; he never told her what he got out of their meetings. so the cause to her became helping elves. and then that really quickly became warped to helping celene because she convinced her that it was the best way to serve the cause.

"what would have been different if she'd decided what she wanted to fight for on her own?"

she would have been a lot less.....not less dedicated, but less 'dedicated to the detriment of her own wellbeing'

if she had decided herself not to go to the Dalish, to stay by Celene's side to enact change, rather than just following the orders of other people, her story would be very different

concept: briala actually processing her trauma??? what???

bc you know the moment she got back to the palace with Celene after meeting Fel for the first time she threw herself headfirst into the Game

she focused all of her energy on intelligence-gathering and supporting Celene in her bid to become Empress

She never gave herself a single moment to grieve

and it isn't an uncommon story in Thedas, an elf watching someone or multiple someones they love cut down by humans

imagine if u will: briala, trying to have a funeral, not just for her parents, but for all of them

thats the thing i really feel the need to

idk

it wasn't just her parents

briala grew up in the palace. her parents were both palace servants.

she knew every single one of those servants. they were her friends and her family. and at the end of it she was left standing covered in blood in front of celene. celene was all she had left.

she didn't have any friends at the beginning of TME. she was friendly with the cook, but that was it.

celene took a generally happy, driven, and incredibly smart 14-year old elven girl and took away everyone she had ever known except herself. she made herself briala's world.

that's the real reason i hate that you can reunite them. its not that i don't believe they could be reunited - its that they can. because briala doesn't have anyone else. she has celene and felassan. that's it.

when you only have one person, its easy to make excuses for them and justify the things theyve done. its easy to believe them when they apologize and promise to do better.

thats why i want briala to have friends and lovers and people

i want to have a verse where she has grown so far beyond that point that she would laugh if Celene asked her to return to the palace

i want her to stop loving Celene but she isn't there yet

in my current writing, at least

she is still vulnerable to her in every verse where Celene is still alive

i just imagine her like

talking quietly about her childhood best friend among the servants

we don't get to see much of Briala's childhood

we get the moment of her mother telling her she mustn't try to hide her ears and that she must be proud of being an elf. that's really it.

but we do know that there were other children of servants who were considered for Celene's handmaiden aside Briala

i like to think she was friends with these other children. that she wasn't always lonely from the start

but of course that leads down the road of those friends being slaughtered as well so its a tradeoff

and then there's the question of whether when Celene kissed her when she was sending her away, if that was her first kiss, if she ever even had the chance to love someone else

i think a lot about how Briala spent 20 years learning how to love exactly 1 person the way she wanted to be loved

just imagining her trying to have a romantic relationship with someone else with that framework still in place is painful. it wouldn't work no matter how much she wanted it to because she'd be treating them like celene. she has no other model for how a relationship can work

she bypasses that somewhat with Lana, but its still there, thinking that the best thing to do is the thing that Keeps Lana Safe

she wouldn't recognize abuse if she got into another bad relationship

and she doesn't know how a relationship works where she isn't centering the other person's needs over her own

she gave up everything she ever wanted or aspired to for Celene

one time i got a prompt from a lyric starter list i made

'you can still be what you want to'

and briala just. broke for a moment.

'no. i can't. i never could - none of us ever could. thats why we fight.'

she doesn't have interests or hobbies or friends or a life

celene was her life and now she's filled that void with her cause
