author's note: thank you so much for this request! I decided to write it as a short sfw scenario, so I do hope you like it! Tbh, I am recently becoming a Shino stan girl, but I still feel he is one of the most difficult characters to write for lol x

warnings: none really (BUT some mentions of being intimate, nothing really nsfw) ; still just in case MINORS DO NOT INTERACT (18+)

A loud giggle left your lips and your hand flew towards Shikamaru's shoulder, a low grunt leaving him at the contact. A small blush covered his cheeks, while his eyes focused on the little stones, which he kept kicking with the edge of his shoes.

"I can't believe you said that!", you exclaimed, before another chuckle rumbled from your chest, "You asked her what her favourite cough medicine is?"

Your best friend's face became even redder of the memory and for a second, he regretted sharing with you how his date last night went. He rolled his eyes, his mouth forming a pout.

"I didn't know what to ask... Man, dealing with women is such a drag!"

His words earned him another playful slap from you, which he partly managed to dodge by moving to the side. His hand moved towards your wrist and before you knew it, he spun you around, so you were pressed against his chest, while his arm was wrapped around your torso, keeping you in place.

"Shika, let me go!", you squirmed in his grasp, a gasp leaving your lips once his hand pressed against that one ticklish spot on the side of your waist.

"Are you going to stop hitting me and making fun of me?", he asked with a serious expression, yet his voice carried a note of playfulness. Once you shook your head no, his hand found your ticklish spot again, this time squeezing and you immediately laughed, wiggling in his arms. Shikamaru, however, didn't seem to show even an ounce of mercy, his fingers dancing over your clothed skin.

"Y/N."

The sound of your voice made your best friend immediately release you and you turned around, only to find Shino staring at you. Like usual, half of his face was covered by the shadow of his hood and his dark glasses, but you could see just the slightest frown sitting on his face.

You and Shino had... interesting relationship. You had a crush on the mysterious man since your late teenage years and it wasn't till after the war when Kiba decided to set you a blind date as a joke, that you had the chance to get to know each other. Since that day, you only grew closer, regularly spending your free time together.

To say that you were together, however, would be a lie... or at least not fully the truth. Sure, you did kiss occasionally and he had recently started to spend some of his nights in your bed, but nothing has been officially established between you two. In your mind, your relationship was currently hanging on the border between a beneficial friendship and a romantic relationship.

The dark energy that Shino was currently radiating, however, was anything but friendly.

"Hey, Shino!", you greeted, smiling brightly at him, before scratching the back of your head. For some unknown reason, a feeling of embarrassment has washed over you, almost as if you were caught doing something you shouldn't have.

"What's up, mate?", your best friend greeted next to you, offering a lazy smirk. Shino, however, did not even acknowledge his presence, his attention focused on you.

"We were supposed to meet for lunch", he pointed out while lifting one of his brows, his tone sounding cold. Your eyes widened in surprise and you lifted your hand towards your face, checking the time on your watch.

2 o'clock.

A whole hour later than your scheduled meeting with Shino. You got so caught up listening to Shikamaru's disastrous date, that you completely lost track of time. You lifted your head towards the boy again, giving an apologetic look and opening your mouth to apologize, before your best friend beat you to it.

"Sorry, man, it was my faul-"

"I wasn't talking to you", Shino abruptly snapped at him, finally glancing in his direction. His reaction made you furrow your brows and it seemed to have taken Shikamaru by surprise too, because he lifted his hands in defence, before throwing a questioning glance at you.

All three of you stayed silent for a minute, till you let out a nervous sigh and turned towards your best friend. Quickly wrapping your hands around his torso, you held him in your embrace for just a second, before you stepped back and bid your farewell.

Once Shikamaru was far enough to not hear your conversation, you turned towards Shino and crossed your arms in front of your chest.

"What was that about?"

He stared silently at you and you thought he was just formulating his response, but to your surprise, he silently turned around and started to walk away. You stood dumbfounded, mouth falling open in shock by his unusually rude behaviour, before coming back to reality and jogging next to him.

"Hey!", the word came out more sternly than you intended, "I am talking to you!"

Your fingers wrapped around the sleeve of his jacket and he stopped in place, still refusing to pay you any attention. Taking a deep breath, you decided that maybe a gentler approach would be more appropriate.

"Shino", his name sounded almost like a plead coming out of your lips, "Talk to me.."

The man tensed at your words and his hand came to his face, removing his glasses, so you can finally see how irritated he was with you. But behind his dark eyes, there was a strange vulnerability you have never witnessed from him.

"What am I to you?"

His question came out uncertain, almost as if he wasn't sure if he should be asking it. But Shino has always been one to speak his mind and this was one of the things you liked about him.

"What do you mean?", your head titled to the side, inviting him to elaborate.

"Do you see me as your lover? Or just someone to string along, till you decide what do you want?"

Maybe he meant his last words as a genuine ask, but the sharp tone he used made your heart skip a beat. It hurt you that he lacked confidence in your intentions towards him, especially since unlike him, you have openly voiced the fact that you do like him and feel attracted to him.

"String you along? I would never-"

A silent, barely audible scoff left his lips, and you stopped mid-sentence, now feeling more annoyed than anything.

"Honestly, what the hell is your problem?", you moved, so you were standing right in front of him and your eyes bored into his, "You are being a total asshole right now."

"I'm sorry I'm not too thrilled by the fact I just witnessed my girl being in another man's arms."

Oh...

Whatever was about to come out of your mouth, has been long forgotten and now the only thing your brain could focus on was the fact he called you "his girl".

You blinked a few times at him before a teasing smile stretched across your face.

"Your girl?", you leaned towards him, leaving only a step of distance between you two, "Is that who I am to you?"

Shino's cheeks turned into a dark rosy colour, which reached the tip of his ears and he moved his gaze to the side, suddenly finding the trees in the distance way more interesting than looking at you.

"Of course, you are my girl", he grumbled, his right foot now nervously tapping the ground, "I thought that was pretty clear."

You couldn't help but let out a chuckle at his embarrassed expression. Shino had the strange ability to say bluntly exactly what he was thinking, no matter how inappropriate it was, yet he got all shy and insecure the moment you asked him to confirm his feelings.

"Well, you have never expressly said anything...", you stepped to the side, resulting in blocking his view with your face once again.

"Was sleeping together not enough of a confirmation of the fact that I view you as my partner?", he raised his brow at you and you felt your mouth opening slightly at how straightforward he was, "Why else would I be intimate with you? For the laughs?"

"Well, no...", you muttered, suddenly feeling embarrassed by the fact that you have even questioned him in the first place, "But you know... A girl cannot be sure, till you explicitly say to her what do you want from her."

His hand reached towards your chin, lifting it and making you look at his brown eyes. His whole aura was now calmer and somewhat back to his usual collected self.

"I am serious about you. I want to be with you", he declared, his thumb gently tracing your jawline, "But I want to know if you are feeling the same way. I can't take being your second option, if your true affection lies with someone else..."

A deep crease appeared between your brows and it took you a few seconds to connect the dots.

"Shikamaru?", you let out a dry laugh, but your expression quickly became serious once you met Shino's unamused face, "Shino, you know both of us for years! I literally view him as my brother."

The dark-haired ninja hummed at your words, his hand moving away and shuffling in his pants' pocket.

"I don't like seeing other men touching you", he admitted, his hand falling away from your face, but before he can pull away, you laced your fingers with his.

"You are the only one I like, Shino! No one else", you assured him, giving him a gentle squeeze. He stared at you, checking your eyes to see how sincere you were, and before he could talk himself out of it, he leaned forward, pressing his lips towards yours.

Pulling away, his whole face was red and he hurriedly put his sunglasses back in an attempt to hide his embarassment.

"Let's go have lunch, you must be starving."

welcome to me fixing boruto to make it make sense :) i started typing this in the tags but it was so so long anyway so. sasuke stays in konoha after the war & earns the trust of the village instead of leaving and gets help instead of isolation meaning team seven can resume being an active team after therapy bcs,,, war,,, and other stuff,, in which they actually learn to be a team!! you can't convince me that the half a year sasuke spent w them when he was 13 made them a cohesive unit ok wtf

naruto and sasuke take the fucking chunin exams wtf there’s no reason for them not to.. but it’s actually laughable because these two fucking grown 18yos, two goddamn powerhouses that could level half the country are competing against a bunch of 14yos and have to actively restrain themselves as not to kill them with a punch... then all three of them became jonin (let’s be real those three are absolutely stronger than the sannin at this point but i guess theres no higher position than jonin... ALSO the rest of konoha 11 become jonin as well??? like)

sakura teaches sasuke some medical ninjutsu because she & naruto can heal themselves but he can’t so. then they just resume acting as an active duty team operating close to the hokage, trying to smooth out things between the nations! THEN four years after the war they're like huh we're actually at peace and we can relax and live our lives!

naruto, 21 and experiencing a crisis, decides to try actually maybe doing something that doesn't relate to becoming hokage, to sasuke, or saving the world in any way & it's him who travels instead of sasuke & because i'm fixing boruto he travels w hinata and whatever whatever.

because naruto isn't there to be a buffer, sakura and sasuke are forced to interact regularly and become actual friends instead of just teammates and because sasuke now has people who actively want him to recover from his trauma he slowly learns to accept other ppl than naruto into his life. like sakura. who he finds actually pleasant to b around once she stops stanning and idolizing him and sees him as an actual person. he and sai have a kinda rocky friendship but they otherwise don’t bother each other... (sasuke gets cranky when he’s hanging out w sakura bcs sakura is his only friend and she’s not allowed to be busy)

sakura decides to put being a medic on hold and takes a genin team when shes 22 & her kids love fucking w sasuke and he lets them because they remind him of team seven :') sakura-sensei doesn’t stop them either because she thinks it’s hilarious when he’s trying to take a nap but they won’t let him, stick “kick me” notes on his back, and steal his scrolls when he isn’t looking...

sasuke mostly minds his business otherwise (he sometimes steps in as a sensei to sakuras team like yamato did for kakashi bcs he and sakura are good friends now and he can handle some kids thank you sakura) and occasionally takes some A rank missions when needed. the rest of konoha 12 begrudgingly accept him once he proves he’s an ally & he swears he doesn't like them but he actually doesn't mind their company now that he's doing better & they don't wanna kill him. “suprisingly” having other friends does him good! he patches things up with ino and apologizes (to both ino and sakura) for hurting sakura like that. kiba and shikamaru don’t completely forgive him yet but he’s trying now. he and shino have “hang out sessions” where they just sit in complete silence for an hour every two weeks.

at 23, he takes on his own genin team consisting of two twin girls and their older brother who were all orphaned in the war he's actually a good sensei now that he's had uuh seven? years of active recovery? (math brain damage) anyway this is boruto i'm fixing so he & sakura fall in love during those three years nart was away or whatever. and! wow! an actual loving relationship built on mutual respect, friendship, and trust! inovative

naruto comes back w hinata when hes 24 because he was invited to their wedding & wow he actually also had time to realize he was horribly mistreated by the village and come to terms with it during his travels making him more emotionally mature and less prone to throwing his life away for random ppl!! (also fell in love w hinata skdmdkd) and comes back after seeing how civilians live elsewhere and how other villages run and whatnot, ready to make changes after he becomes hokage

anyway they come back and naruto feels a little outta the loop bcs the village changed a lot under kakashis leadership (au where he actually does shit as hokage wow) and sasuke is marrying sakura and they BOTH have genin teams?? but then he throws the confusion back at them and says “lads hinata is actually pregnant” meaning none of them became parents at the tender age of 20,,,, like they do in canon,,

anyway naruhina gets married a year after sasusaku w little boruto present & then sarada is born a few months after the wedding but! because sasuke had enough time and love to recover he is actually a decent father who teaches his daughter about the uchiha clan! and naruto doesn't neglect his kids because of hokage duties once he takes the hat. (at the age of 34, making boruto 9 and himawari 4)

sakura doesn’t have to juggle staing home to raise her kid and being the head of a whole hospital (if i remember correctly) because sasuke is actually a present figure in hers and saradas life :) naruto gets to spend time with his children and deal with village relations without sending out clones to travel into a whole other country because shikamaru and sasuke have full authority to stand in in his absence. he spends less time running errands for random ppl (lmao what?? what was he proving by doing that??) but actually implementing changes and transforming the village for the better. that’s it.

(i’m unfortunately not even touching the whole orochimaru ordeal....wait ok let’s say he doesn’t fucking experiment on kids and instead of making yamato waste away watching him orochimaru stays in konoha under tight supervision and is allowed to idk adopt? mitsuki??... there fixed it)

Yes sakura loves sasuke (even though her love is selfish) however sasuke doesn’t love her and you know what? I dare pro-SShippers to go and comment under this post and prove to me that sasuke ‘loves’ sakura

however before you do that I have a few things to say

first don’t be disrespectful I get triggered real quick when it comes to disrespectful people

you can say whatever you want about the fictional characters you can even trash them Idc they are not real but don’t be rude to me or others then I’ll block you real quick

Second you can’t use ANY of these reasons on why sasuke loves sakura because I’m gonna break them down and show you why these reason don’t actually prove that sasuke loves her

First agrument SShippers love to use to show how sasuke loves sakura

THE CHUNIN EXAMS:

Sasuke didn’t love sakura just because he saved her that’s a weak ass agrument and if that’s the case doesn’t sasuke love Karin also? He saved her against that bear during the chunin exams! Or what about naruto? He saved naruto countless of times in part one so sasuke is in love with naruto also?

Sasuke also saves Karin while they were trying to get the 8 tails so did he love Karin then?

Another thing I want to point out is that the reason sasuke saved sakura is because there teammates sasuke is not this horrible person a lot of people try to paint him as

he wouldn’t just let his teammate die! to be honest anyone could’ve been in sakura place as sasuke’s teammate and he would’ve save them also (ino, choji, hinata, tenten, kiba, shikamaru etc.) it’s not because he loves her it’s because she was in danger and sasuke is not a bad guy

During the chunin exams sasuke does CARE for sakura but he doesn’t love her there is a difference

THE WAR ARC(when sasuke put sakura in the genjutsu instead of killing her):

Sasuke not killing sakura (IN THIS PART ONLY!!!!) just proves how much he doesn’t care for her because at that time sasuke was trying to kill anyone that he had a bond with that’s why he was trying to kill naruto

He even says that naruto is standing in his way to be truly alone he didn’t say naruto AND sakura

And the only reason he put her in that genjutsu is because he knew her dumbass would try to get in the middle of the fight to try to stop them! if it wasn’t for that sasuke wouldn’t even pay her any mind

THE FOREHEAD POKE:

In the manga/anime there is a part when sasuke asks itachi what the head poke meant and itachi says that it was his way of treating sasuke as little kid that was his way of saying he has no time for sasuke the forehead poke also represents that itachi doesn’t see sasuke as his equal but more so as a child

So sasuke knowing ALL of this still would poke sakura on the head to show he loves her? I doubt it! The forehead poke shows that he has no time for sakura and that he doesn’t see her as his equal he sees her as a child

If sasuke bumped sakura and his foreheads together like itachi did to him to show that there now equals then I wouldn’t dnt mind that to be a sign of affection because that would mean he at least sees her as his equals but he doesn’t do that

And some SS-stans like to say that sasuke changed the meaning of the forehead poke and that’s a head canon at best!

when is it ever implied that sasuke changed the meaning of it? You can’t just pull stuff out of thin air to make your ship look better it doesn’t work that way

Also he doesn’t even poke her forehead anymore! When sakura was giving sasuke his bento box she leans for a kiss he just pokes sadara head and gives sadara a hug and basically ignores sakura

SASUKE REDEMPTION JOURNEY:

A lot of SShippers try to use sasuke redemption journey as an excuse on why he loves his family and doesn’t want them to die and blah blah blah

However sasuke decided to travel the world and see the shinobi world for himself before he got sakura pregnant, before they were even together! so that doesn’t make sense

Sasuke already planned to leave the village to make up for all his mistakes (however sasuke barely made any mistakes he was right about the horrible shinobi system he should’ve never let naruto TNJ him) he made that decision for himself not for sakura and not for sadara who wasn’t even born then

don’t try to pin everything sasuke does on his family he seems more worried about naruto getting stabbed then his own wife going into another dimension so I doubt he’s really that stressed about his family

SASUKE CALLING SAKURA HIS WIFE:

Just because sasuke called sakura his wife doesn’t mean he loves her a lot of people are in loveless marriages right now but they still have a wife

Also saying you have a wife is one thing but ACTING like you have a wife is another

GAIDEN:

At the end when sasuke says that his and sakura’s hearts are connected because of sadara just hurt SS so bad!!! It’s not a good look for there marriage no matter how you try to spin it

he’s not saying he loves sakura he’s saying the reason they are together is because of sadara

Sadara is the glue that holds her parents together if she wasn’t around then there hearts would not be connected

Also I found it really interesting that sasuke answered sadara question that way because all sasuke had to say was that there hearts are truly connected because they love each other and he loves sadara

But he didn’t say that because sasuke doesn’t love sakura the reason he’s even with her is there child! And he doesn’t even live with them! he doesn’t even contact his own family however he contacts naruto any chance he gets

He doesn’t even tell naruto to say hi to his family in those letters he writes him, it’s like he wants nothing to do with them at all

Another thing I want to point out is that sasuke has NEVER once said he loves sakura

He never told her how important she is to him (he always talked about his bound with naruto) the only good thing he has ever said about her is that she’s not a weak women and it’s true she’s not weak but that’s not a deceleration of love!

When he met Karin he called Karin the strongest kunoichi that doesn’t mean he loved her! He just complimented her

A compliment isn’t a sign of love sorry you can point out someone is strong and not love them your just stating facts that’s it! and it’s a fact that sakura is not weak

Also having sex with someone doesn’t mean that person loves them!!!! There is a such thing called casual sex, people have casual sex ALL the time He just wanted a nut and sakura was the idiot that let him nut in her

Nothing has ever convinced me that sasuke loved sakura and I doubt that anything anyone else says will show me otherwise

And the thing is I don’t care if people ship SS but some shippers really get mad if you point out the flaws in the relationship like you have a right to ship what you want and I have a right to say why the relationship isn’t healthy

I don’t have a problem with people who ship SS and know there are flaws in the relationship but still like sasusaku anyways there not delusional

however it’s these SS-stans that think the relationship is so perfect and if you try to disagree they want you to go kill yourself

And it’s so funny to me how people self insert themselves into these characters so bad that they would rather you to slit your own wrist then have you say something bad about there fav FICTIONAL character and it’s disgusting

And it’s not only SS-stans who do this NH and ST die hard stans do it to and its weird to me Thanks for the ask 🔱

I’ve already answered this here bc yes, I do want all of you to know about my bad fanfiction and weird ships I had when I was 14.

But since I want to not just answer with this here, I’m just gonna expound on why I shipped KibaxKankuro from Naruto real quick: Dog Boy. Puppet Boy. Nough Said. 

No, but I really, really, really loved Kiba. He had a cute dog. That was peak boyfriend material to comp het suffering 14 year old me. Kankuro is kind of a dickbag, but who hasn’t stanned at least one idiot with a potential for a heart of gold? They both have Big Asshole Jerk Disorder, bc they are just really good at coming up with witty things to say and only let their guards down around friends and family.

There’s this one really long forest scene at some point (asdfh that’s like half of naruto...) but anyway, Kiba gets hurt and Kankuro takes care of him or the other way around while they are a creek or something, I haven’t watched Naruto in... like 8 years now. i tried to rewatch, but rewatching supernatural was painful enough, i need good media now anyway The Intense Homoeroticism Of Tending To Your Enemy-Ally In The Forest Near A Running Body Of Water And Showing Emotions Towards Someone That’s Not Your Immediate Circle Of Friends still makes me soft and that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

I like Gravity Falls, snapbacks are cool, and literally every other name I wanted to use was taken.

2. Who or what got you on Tumblr in the first place?

Gravity Falls fanart. I saw so much of it after I got into it with NWHS and I just wanted to save them all onto one place so I wouldn’t lose track of them.... and then I lost track of them because I have over 20,000 likes.

Um... a solid 5/6. Like I know I’m decent- reading my cringe worthy start in writing I can see DRASTIC improvement- but I don’t feel like I’m up to my favorite author(s) yet.

4. What do you think of thunderstorms?

I like them until they mess with my internet and so long as I’m inside. I like hearing the rain and watching the water flow downhill, gathering in ponds before continuing their flow and lightning (seriously it’s so cool) but I don’t like the mugginess that usually comes afterwards.

6. If you could have a mythical creature as a pet, what creature would you choose? Don’t pick one that can transform into or be sometimes considered human.

Omg, I don’t even know... A phoenix? No, that’d probably backfire (get it?)... daemon? Honestly I don’t know. I’d have to give it more thought.

7. What color do you wish there would be more of in the world?

That ONE shade of purple I love so much.

Hmmmm.... *shrugs* Dunno. All of them.

... I think I’ll go with The Lion King... yeah, I think that. If I watch the movie I can say everything with the characters.

Boy do I have a list for you. From That’s So Raven to Code Lyoko to iCarly... Phil of the Future, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Proud Family, Kim Possible, All That, Teen Titans, Hey Arnold! Bro I want a LOT of shows back. Do you know how amazing childhood was TV wise?! Youngsters... 90s/early 2000s was the best for television, I’m telling you.

11. What five characters from any fandom do you wish you’d be able to meet in real life?

Only five?! Okay... Obviously the Stan twins (like... they balance each other out and meeting both instead of one on one would be easier) so that’s two... Kirishima from My Hero Academia (this boy is such a cinnamon roll). Kiba Inuzuka from Naruto (and since Akamaru’s always with him I’ll get to pet the puppy). And lastly Firestar from the book series that got me into reading... Warriors.

The KH people are now in naruto. Who does what?

I couldn’t decide whether to treat this as ‘crossover where the KH people end up in the Naruto-verse’ or as an AU along the lines of ‘where the KH people were born in the Naruto-verse’, so I’m gonna go with the second in order to make things simpler. Haha. ‘Simpler’. I must also remind myself not to drag my world-building headcanons into this...

Kairi - Easiest of all. She’s an Uzumaki! The red hair totally fits. Since she’s a Princess of Heart in KH, I’d translate her as an Uzumaki princess, as Mito and Kushina are commonly assumed to have been. She’d have Adamantine Sealing Chains made out of pure light/chakra. Plus, my understanding of the Uzumaki is that they have a great deal of Yang chakra, which is associated with light. *imagines Kairi with chakra chains and seals* Good stuff. Plus, maybe she could be a chakra sensor, like Karin? Chains, seals, sensing - those are some good abilities there. 

Riku - Lol, my first thought is that he would be a successful Uchiha, despite the totally wrong coloring. Bear out with me on this. In KH, he’s goaded into opening the door to darkness and destroying his world, and then into capturing the Princesses of Heart in a deluded quest to save Kairi - does this sound like an Uchiha tantrum or what? You could even argue that Kairi’s ‘loss of her heart’ could have qualified him for a Mangekyou if he had blamed himself. However, Riku actually takes responsibility for his actions and does his best to fix things; he at least never became an international terrorist, and his life change is sincere. In the end, he’d be more like... what the Uchiha should be, if they didn’t all go power-crazy. (*waits for an Uchiha stan to jump on me for saying this*) Anyway. I’d definitely associate Riku with some kind of Yin Release (because darkness!) - genjutsu/illusions? Combined with kenjutsu, it reminds me a little of Shisui’s skillset - another point in the ‘Uchiha Riku’ column. Then again, he doesn’t have to be an Uchiha to be great at genjutsu. Hmm... what if he is, like, actually Xehanort’s grandson in this AU? Depending on the timeline, he might be expected by his family to carry on Xehanort’s master plan. Or, if Xehanort’s shenanigans have become common knowledge and he has fled the village like Orochimaru, Riku might be suspected as a flight risk. Like Sasuke running away to Sound, Riku might initially run away to Xehanort/Akatsuki. Unlike Sasuke, Riku comes back. 

Sora - A kenjutsu user, like Riku, with ninjutsu of various elements under his belt and no real talent at genjutsu. Perhaps he also works hard on taijutsu for when he doesn’t have his sword? He’s not from any big ninja clan and doesn’t have a fancy bloodline; he’s dragged himself to where he is now by following the Rock Lee school of hard work. I’m imagining Sora, Riku, and Kairi on a genin team together; they’ve been friends since they met in the Academy and showed an aptitude for teamwork that practically guaranteed they’d be placed on the same team. If we want to follow the Team 7 format, Riku would be the Rookie of the Year, Kairi would be the Top Kunoichi, and Sora would be the Dead Last (I’m sorry, Sora). However, they’d work together and actually pull that team formation off. Sora would also have issues, much like Naruto, with the school of thought that ninja need to be emotionless dehumanized tools for their village’s purpose. Would he also have epic powers of converting his enemies to his side? Possibly. 

Donald Duck - Okay, if we’re leaving him as a duck, then presumably he’s a summons animal of some sort. A duck summons. With ninjutsu. Water Release, Ice Release? IDK, in KH he has a lot more different types of magic than are common for ninja and animals in the Naruto-verse. As a summons animal, he could be anywhere from the size of a normal duck to person-sized to larger than person-sized. He wouldn’t be a boss summon, though. He’d still get to wear his blue jacket and hat, though, and talk in his squeaky voice. With his aquatic nature and Water Release, it makes me think of Kiri or Uzushio. Perhaps the duck summoning contract was salvaged from Uzushio? Does that mean Kairi is a duck summoner? 

Goofy - Okay, he could be a nin-dog - like, an actual dog, and not the anthropomorphized dog he is in KH. Perhaps he could be Sora’s dog partner, like Kiba and Akamaru? We could have ninja!Sora riding a dog into battle! Inuzuka Sora is... actually a pretty cool idea? If we don’t go that route, Goofy could be some sort of dog summons (was it ever explained whether Kakashi’s dogs were normal dogs he just summoned or summons animals???) and could then have an excuse for being anthropomorphized, walking on two field, and wielding shields or other weapons. I like the idea of Inuzuka Sora and his faithful battle dog more, though.

Mickey - Do I want to keep him as an anthropomorphized mouse or do I make a human AU out of this? If I do a human AU, he could be the jounin sensei of Sora, Kairi, and Riku - an elite jounin, a kenjutsu and ninjutsu expert, an S-rank shinobi who’s considered a viable kage candidate if they could keep him in his office long enough to actually do his paperwork. He probably doesn’t even do his paperwork as it is, always running off on missions. He doesn’t really strike me as former ANBU material, although it remains a possibility. Maybe he could have mouse summons for communication (or giant mouse summons for combat?) if we want to keep the rodent theme going on here. Perhaps his wife, Minnie, is high up in their village’s government, actually running things. She could be the head of T&I or something. 

Yen Sid - Old ninja. Highly respected in his day, and still commands a reputation throughout the Elemental Nations. Possibly known as ‘the Professor’. Mickey’s jounin sensei. Genin teammate of Eraqus and Xehanort. He could be the kage of his village and complete the parallels with Sarutobi Hiruzen/Sandaime Hokage (Yen Sid may not have done much of anything so far and may have hidden information from the main characters, but his only pupil turned out successfully so he’s still ahead of Hiruzen). He strikes me as a sealing master and very knowledgeable about chakra and jutsu theory in general.

Eraqus - Old ninja, kenjutsu master, possibly with a side of ninjutsu. Genin teammate of Yen Side and Xehanort. Had a bit of a falling out with his genin teammates years ago, Yen Sid for his inaction and Xehanort for his creepiness, but they’ve mended some bridges by now. Aqua and Terra are a little too old to still be genin; possibly they are his chuunin apprentices in kenjutsu or something? Huge angst potential here with the idea that Eraqus was their jounin sensei and their third genin teammate died in a mission gone wrong or something. Aqua and Terra made genin and then chuunin nevertheless, but all three of them were affected by the loss and Eraqus became doubly determined not to lose any of his kids by ensuring as well as he can that they’re prepared for the shinobi lifestyle and that they won’t go down a similar path as Xehanort. Extra heartwrenchingly, Ventus comes along as a boy so similar to the genin student he lost and Xehanort possibly gives him to Eraqus to train/raise knowing that. Guilt trip, any one?

Terra - Okay, so I started off this laughing to myself at the thought of Terra in the Tsuchikage hat, but then I had a better idea. Terra’s darkness/evil power inside him that he struggles to keep at bay - this translates really well to him being a jinchuuriki. Terra being the container for an ‘evil’ tailed beast and shunned by society for it would explain some of his self-esteem issues and his desperate need for validation/approval from his teacher. It might also explain his need to get stronger; he has to, in order to control the tailed beast within him for the sake of his entire village, and so he won’t lose anyone else like his dead genin teammate. Eraqus’s light-is-good/darkness-is-evil mentality would play into things here with him preaching to Terra that he has to keep the tailed beast in check, suppress his emotions, and become a good dehumanized tool for the village. Xehanort, on the other hand, would tell Terra that it’s okay to be human, that the tailed beast’s power can be channeled, that the villagers should view him as a hero for his difficult duty - emotionally manipulating him by giving him the validation he craves in order to gain a jinchuuriki and the awesome power of a tailed beast under his control.

...Yikes. That is genuinely frightening. 

No, I do NOT need another fic on my plate no matter how much Xehanort gathering the neglected jinchuuriki and manipulating them into causing the apocalypse so he can revive the Juubi for his own agenda would make an interesting and horrifying fic...

Aqua - The only one out of the ‘kids’ to have it together. She’s probably already made jounin; she holds her own with kenjutsu and ninjutsu. She’s been tasked with watching Terra by Eraqus/the village leaders because they’re afraid that his tailed beast’s seal is weakening/he’s giving into the tailed beast/he’s going to go rogue and leave his village, etc. (When all he actually needs here is some support, dang it.) She’ll have to confront the ‘ninja are tools of their village’ mentality. I’d like to see her on a retrieval mission alongside Sora/Riku/Kairi to bring back Sasuke defecting to Sound Riku leaving for Maleficent/Xehanort or having to deal with a tailed beast rampage and tearfully having to decide whether to try to talk down a possessed Terra or to kill her best friend in order to save the village. Because I enjoy pain.

Ventus - OH MY GOSH Ventus is Tenzou/Yamato. Possibly stolen from his family at a young age? Check. Experimented on by a crazy madman in hopes of reviving a legendary power? Check. Experiment apparently fails and he’s abandoned/the only survivor of said experiments? Check. He ultimately proves able to use/create said legendary power? Check. Ventus, however, lucks out in that he’s taken in by Eraqus and doesn’t fall into the clutches of Danzou and become even more messed up. So, in this Naruto AU, Ventus has the mokuton (magical tree-growing ability). Thus, it would make incredible sense for him to be put with Terra, as the wood-controlling powers of the mokuton suppress tailed beast chakra. Ventus has thus been (unknowingly) trained to be the one to fight and possibly put down his big brother figure if he ever succumbs to the tailed beast within him. Or - what if Ventus knows this might one day be his duty and desperately hopes to avoid it? That might lend an extra flavor of panic to his insistence that Terra isn’t losing himself to the darkness/tailed beast - it can’t be true, because if it’s true Ventus has to fight him and possibly kill him. And Ventus can’t do that, not to one of the few people who’s treated him as a person, as something more than a (failed) science experiment or a fairy tale figure. Thus, in this AU, it wouldn’t be Eraqus threatening to kill Terra. It’d be Eraqus threatening Ventus in order to get Ventus to kill Terra and/or trying to kill Terra himself. D: 

Namine - Possibly another one of Orochimaru’s Xehanort’s science experiments who survived? She has the same cartoons-come-to-life jutsu as Sai. Xehanort and his crew may have used her for villainous purposes (to capture the tailed beasts/their containers?) but Sora acknowledged her as a person and she’s decided to join his fight in the ‘ninja are people not emotionless tools to be used to whatever horrible end by their village’ struggle. Possibly, she and Kairi team up (sealing via drawings + magical chains) to put an end to the tailed beast rampage and save Terra from Xehanort and his minions?

Vanitas - IDK can anyone think of any reason why he would NOT be an Uchiha whom Xehanort is manipulating for his own ends in this AU? If his association with Sora is kept, perhaps he was Sora’s adopted older brother whom Danzou Xehanort stole to become his minion like poor Aburame Torune.

Xehanort - Is basically Orochimaru. Without the snakes. He was the genin teammate of Yen Side and Eraqus and got away with a lot of stuff while they weren’t looking/were unwilling to look. He experimented on Ventus in order to revive the legendary mokuton ability. He may have exploited Namine for her unique drawings-come-to-life ability. He would totally have stolen Vanitas for his abilities and/or experimented on him to give him said abilities. He’s been creeping on Terra and emotionally manipulating or just capturing the other jinchuuriki for their tailed beasts. Unlike most Naruto villains, he has no motivations of wanting to change the world for peace, blah, blah, blah. He just wants to combine the tailed beast into the Juubi monstrosity and potentially cause the apocalypse just to see what will happen. Due to Yen Sid’s passivity and his guilt-tripping of Eraqus, he gets away with a lot of it. By the time Terra goes berserk and the village is at risk of destruction by the tailed beast he carries, Xehanort can sit back and watch Eraqus do his work for him in delivering said tailed beast right to him. 

Organization XIII - Are the Akatsuki, I guess? Xehanort has assembled a team of S-rank shinobi, either missing nin or ones he just stole (*cough Ienzo, Lea, Isa, Roxas, Xion cough*) and raised to work for him without questioning his goals. They even have a uniform! His goal of Norting them all can be carried over by Xehanort killing them and using their corpses in his version of the Six Paths of Pain - the Thirteen Paths of Xehanort, or something like that. Yikes. That is also terrifying. Eventually, all the ninja nations unite against him and he starts the zombie apocalypse to keep them busy while he grabs the last few jinchuuriki and begins the real apocalypse. 

IDK where I’m going with this anymore. The Sora = Inuzuka, Terra = jinchuuriki, and Ventus = mokuton bits are the real genius elements here.
