I just wrote my first book review and had it published by onlinebookclub.org! I’m so excited to get my thoughts out there and that my writing was deemed good enough to publish.
The book I reviewed is a fantasy called Nimue: Freeing Merlin. You can learn more about it by checking out my review here.

Becoming Nobody by Rick Branch is a collection of edited emails from the author, exploring his personal relationship with philosophy of the self. I enjoyed the opportunity to self-reflect in the influence of another world view, and found the candor Branch brings to the dense topic of the self to be engaging. The book discusses the personal masks that are put on to get through life and the freedom associated with recognizing and utilizing these masks for the betterment of ourselves and those around us. Branch relies on frequent references to other pieces of work with related themes by authors such as Jed McKenna, J.G. Bennett, and Thomas Metzinger. McKenna in particular makes frequent appearances and would be a natural next step for the reader who is interested in what Branch has presented. The format is many small sections, each one loosely corresponding to an email sent by Branch to his peer Ana, one of her responses, or an aggregate of personal notes and outside references. While the beginning of the book encourages flipping through the pages to read what catches the eye, readers who read in order are rewarded with understanding of references to earlier emails, some personal growth of Ana and Rick, and building a foundation of understanding of Rick Branch's beliefs. The conversational tone minimizes the discomfort that may come with a deeply personal topic and evaluation of personal world-view, and is a natural compliment to the format of the book. I do not personally prefer this format of loosely edited emails and general thoughts, but it is not distracting. To emphasize how short each section is, there are 49 "chapters" in roughly 300 pages. This does make it easy to pause at a meaningful break point and makes the book digestible in small pieces of free time. I did not find any problems with grammar, spelling, sentence structure, or flow while reading, and the occasional swear word is present but not distracting - always as part of a quote. There is one instance of a serious racial slur as part of a quote from a racist relative. Becoming Nobody would likely appeal to anyone interested in personal philosophy, who may be exploring ways to live a fulfilling life, or who may be interested in finding other sources to read about the freedom from the self. Overall, I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. I do not find myself wanting to re-read it, but I do not regret the time spent in the mind of Rick Branch. The content is complex, personal, and interesting. The excerpts from other authors help fill in other perspectives that Branch has added to his philosophy without being overbearing or littered with jargon. Some general takeaways from Branch include listening to your conscience, maintaining a realistic view of yourself, learning how to live in the present, and Becoming Nobody.

Review of 'Terms of Service' by Craig W. Stanfill
Another review for onlinebookclub!
Check the full thing out here: https://forums.onlinebookclub.org/vie...
Fantasy meets technology in this book by Stanfill - and I must say it was a very interesting read! As someone who often wonders what will happen when AI and robots become a prevalent part of society, this book helped strengthen those thoughts. A must-read if topics like these interest you!
