The Day I Ran Into You

Third Person POV

When (Y/n) got the news that they would be moving to Korea to study, they were very excited. A new adventure with millions of possibilities waiting for them. (Y/n) packed their bags as soon as they knew when they were leaving. (Y/n) had fixed a small apartment that wasn’t too close to the university nor was it too far away, it was a bit expensive but (Y/n) also found a job so it would be fine. (Y/n) was looking forward to meeting new friends and exploring a new city. 

However, even though (Y/n) had done everything they could to prepare for this trip, they couldn’t stop their anxiety from ruining the experience. It turns out that making friends was way harder than (Y/n) had expected, throughout the first week of university, they hadn’t met a single person to hang out with. It seemed like everyone had already found their cliques, everyone but (Y/n). 

The apartment might have been small but during the night as (Y/n) was feeling lonely, it seemed so vast. The walls span across the country, the roof nowhere in sight, the small night light only illuminating the shadows that dwell around the room. 

During the start of the second week, (Y/n) was ready to give up, they were ready to pack up their things and return home. That was until they met two boys who finally made the anxiety shrink from a raging storm to a gentle breeze. 

It was during lunchtime on Tuesday that (Y/n) ran into a guy with bright red hair, he was dressed in a dark green hoodie and ripped jeans. The guy was coming around a corner and (Y/n) didn’t see him so they ran right into each other, fortunately, it wasn’t more than a bump so no one got hurt. 

“Oh, I’m so sorry. Are you okay?” The guy stopped and gave (Y/n) a bright smile while also looking them up and down to see if he caused any injuries or anything. “Um, no, no, um, yes, I’m okay, sorry for running into you,” “It’s fine! It was my fault too. My name is Hyojin! I’m an Astronomy student,” Hyojin reached out his hand for (Y/n) to shake, still a friendly and bright smile on his lips. (Y/n) reached out and took his hand, giving it a gentle shake. “Hi, my name is (Y/n), I’m a (subject) student,” “Are you a first-year student?” “Yeah,” (Y/n) felt a bit nervous to stand there and talk to Hyojin but he was very friendly and his aura calmed her nerves. “I’m in the second year, OH SEUNGJUN! Hey,” Suddenly Hyojin saw someone behind (Y/n) and he began shouting and waving to catch the person's attention. (Y/n) turned around and saw another guy who waved back as he jogged over to where Hyojin and they were standing. 

“This is Seungjun, Seungjun this is (Y/n),” “Hello, nice to meet you!” “Hi,” “Sorry, I got caught up with (Y/n) so I forgot we were meeting for lunch, about that, am I keeping you from meeting up with your friends?” “No, not really, I kind of don’t have anyone to eat lunch with,” “Just today or always?” Seungjun asked, his eyes sparkled warmly. “Ya, you can’t just ask them that,” “It’s okay, um I guess always because well I’ve had a hard time finding friends here,” “Are you an exchange student?” “Um kind of, well, I’m not from Korea originally or anything but I’m enrolled for the entire program so not just one semester or so,” “Woah that’s so cool, I don’t think I’d have it in me to move to another country to study, not alone at least,” Seungjun said. The two boys were very easy to speak with, their energy made (Y/n) open up more too, daring to actually speak and show some of their personality. 

“Hey, so um, lunch is almost over now, hehe, seems like we all will have to skip it from talking too much. Anyways, Hyojin and I usually have a little picnic on Thursdays after our classes, because some weeks we don’t have time to meet up before that so it’s sort of mandatory for us to do it. Wanna join us this Thursday? It was so nice talking with you so I’d at least love to get to know you more!” “I’d like that too, so what do you say?” (Y/n) took a deep breath, they never thought that them running into a guy with bright red hair could lead to friendship. “Yes, I’d love too,” “Give me your number, I’ll text you the details of when and where and what you should bring!” “Okay!” Hyojin handed (Y/n) his phone and let them add their contact to it. “See ya on Thursday if we don’t run into each other before then!” “Bye,” 

Thursday rolled around and classes were over, (Y/n) was at a convenience store to get some drinks for them and the two boys as (Y/n) had been tasked with bringing drinks. (Y/n) was feeling excited to meet with the two nice boys once again, they thought they’d be nervous but they weren’t, probably because Hyojin and Seungjun had been so nice and welcoming. After buying some different drinks, (Y/n) began walking over to the location Hyojin had sent. When they got their, they searched for the bright red hair but couldn’t find it, (Y/n) felt sad, had they been played? Had the boys just been fooling around? That was until they heard two voices shouting their name. 

“(Y/n)! Over here!” They turned a bit to the left and saw two boys jumping and waving their arms around as they shouted (Y/n)’s name. Hyojin no longer had bright red hair but now he had a light blonde color. “Hey, I was trying to look for you by your hair color but you changed it,” “Yeah, I got tired of the red, also my teachers didn’t appreciate it, said it was distracting,” As he said distracting he made a funny expression and used a mocking tone, making his two friends laugh. “Well, the red looked good on you but so does the blonde,” “Thanks, (Y/n)!” 

And so the three sat in a park, talking about their lives both before meeting and the most recent days, (Y/n) didn’t feel like an outsider or like they had just met the two boys two days ago, no (Y/n) felt like they had known each other their entire lives. Finally, they could enjoy this adventure. Finally, that small apartment wasn’t vast and lonely, no it was slowly getting filled with happy memories, photos, trinkets, and moments from hanging out with the two guys. And Thursday picnics were no longer just a Hyojin and Seungjun thing, it was now a Hyojin, Seungjun, and (Y/n) thing.

A/N: Actually ONF are not on my writing list but I’m making an exception. It took me super long to write this (I’m super sorry about that), partly because I don’t really know ONF, but also because I originally went with an e2l plot and then decided to scrap the idea. The sports day idea came to me while I was reading webtoon, I hope you like it too :) - Admin J

The door to the classroom opened with a loud thud as the class president Seungjun walked inside, waving around a sheet of paper. The whole class got quiet, excited to hear what this was about.

"Everyone, sports day is in a week, so the teacher asked me to assign who will be participating in which sport."

Cheers and groans were going around the classroom equally after his announcement. Personally you weren't a fan of sports day, not because you weren't athletic but more because you didn't feel like embarrassing yourself in front of the eyes of the whole school. So you tried your best to avoid participating.

"Alright, so the last event would be the three legged race... anyone up for that?" It was quiet in the classroom, if this was a cartoon there would probably be a cricket sound effect. The class president sighed, "I guess I'll do it then, but I need someone to be my partner."

That's when it happened, one of your pencils decided to roll off the desk and cause a noise that had everyone looking at you. "Hey, Y/N isn't participating in any event yet!" Someone noticed and before you could even protest your name was already noted down next to Seungjuns.

His eyes lit up as he send you a smile, that you couldn't even return, still too perplexed about what had just happened. Then he walked back out to give the list to the teacher.

~*~ After classes were over, you were about to leave school grounds when someone called out for you. As you turned around you found Seungjun sprinting towards you. He halted next to you, gasping for air, "Y/N, since we're participating in the race together, should we practice some time?" You guessed he was right. Since you already had to participate it wouldn't hurt to practice.

"How about tomorrow after class? We can meet up on the sports field." You suggested and Seungjun agreed instantly, "I'll bring a ribbon to tie our legs. Can I walk with you for a while?" His question caught you off guard, but since you were walking in the same direction anyway you didn't mind.

"You didn't seem to be too excited about sports day, do you not like it?" Seungjun made small talk during the walk. You shrugged, "It's not that i dislike it, I'm just scared I'll embarrass myself in front of everyone." "Oh, but why would you? Sports day is about having fun, don't worry, no one will laugh about you if you make a mistake."

Well that was easy for him to say, everyone loved him. People would never laugh about him, you however would probably be like a clown show for them. "Remember Y/N, we're a team, so I'll make sure you don't have to be embarrassed!" Seungjun called out with a smile before your ways parted. ~*~ The next day you met Seungjun at the sports field as promised. When he tied your right foot together with his left, you realized how close the two of you had to be for this game. It got you nervous, but not uncomfortable, however you wondered how Seungjun was feeling about it.

"Alright should we walk up to the line there? We can start slow in the beginning." If he was affected by the close proximity he didn't show it at all. As you started practicing it went well in the beginning, but as Seungjun picked up the pace, you eventually stumbled over your feet and since Seungjun was connected with you it ended with the both of you toppled over on the ground.

"I'm so sorry." You profoundly apologized to Seungjun who was laughing. "Y/N, I'm fine, really. Are you?" He asked as he pulled you up with him, considerate of the fact that your feet were still tied together. "Yeah I'm fine." You dusted off your knee, which hurt a little bit, but it would only be a bruise.

"Ok, lets try again. How about I do this." he suggested putting his arm around your shoulder to stabilize the two of you, "this way I can make sure to catch you if you fall." It was sweet of him to ask for your consent. With this new strategy your running quickly improved and your tempo finally synched up. ~*~ When sports day came around you were beyond nervous. Sure thanks to Seungjun practice had gone well, but could you perform just as good against all the other competing teams?

"Hey Y/N, you ready?" Seungjun popped up behind you, draping one of his arms over your shoulder. He was still sweaty from participating in the soccer match and his cheeks were glowing red from exhaustion. "I guess, but are you?" handing him a bottle of water to refresh himself, he took it happily.

After drinking half of the bottle he used the other half to pour it over his head to cool down. You screeched when some of the water splashed on you as well and pushed him away lightly, while he laughed about your reaction.

Seungjun and you had gotten quite close due to training together quite a few times. You were sure that definitely helped in improving your tempo together as well.

"All students participating in the three legged race come forward!" a teacher announced through a megaphone. Seungjun and you moved forward, along with the other participants. Before the race could begin someone checked that your feet were tied together correctly.

As you were getting ready Seungjuns arm wrapped around your shoulder as practiced. The two of you nodded at each other, determined to win. After the kickoff you started running, not focusing on the other pairs around you, just as Seungjun had told you during practice.

You hadn't even realized you won until your classmates came storming over to congratulate you. However before they could reach you Seungjun had already embraced you in a bone crushing hug, "See! I told you Y/N! You won't be embarrassed!"

best friend!hyojin who is obsessed with your voice. whether it's when you're explaining something so animatedly, or the little sounds of delight you make when eating something delicious, or how sincere you sound whenever you are faced with a heavy topic. he loves how you can be lighthearted and fun when it's allowed, but also serious and mature when needed. and he loves that you're not too serious, but a perfect balance between both, always matching his energy and love for laughter and teasing.

best friend!hyojin who the members tease relentlessly because of how often he talks about you. they all (especially seungjun) are convinced that he has a crush on you and will never let him hear the end of it. hyojin himself doesn't deny the fact, but he can't bring himself to verbally say it out loud, whether to his bandmates or to you. he doesn't want to ruin what you two already have, regardless of the way his feelings for you keep growing every day.

best friend!hyojin who's mind practically shuts down when you mumble out how much you've loved him for months while drunk. he had been trying to get you to bed safely, all while listening to your intoxicated rambling about different topics. you switched from aliens to barbecue to how much you hated your college classes to your feelings. hyojin has no idea what he's supposed to do with how fast his heart is pounding, or how he'll ever face the consequences of the conversation in the morning when your head is clear.

boyfriend!hyojin who's love language continues to be similar as when he was just your best friend. he loves long conversations and hours playing video games or trying new foods together. when you're both painfully full from delicious food, you'll curl up together and watch him play mario kart; something that yuto had especially gotten him interested in recently. hyojin complains whenever you distract him with a cheek kiss and make him crash, but he secretly loves how much you love to distract him.

boyfriend!hyojin who invites you to the recording studio with him to watch as he records an album. after every take, he always asks for your opinion, even though in your mind every single time he sings anything it sounds like the most angelic thing you've ever heard. you could absolutely never get tired of hearing his heavenly vocals, and he has to get used to you asking him to sing for you almost every day. he doesn't mind, though; he could never mind when it's you asking for something. unless you're asking for his food-- that's where he has to draw the line. even if you are his girlfriend.

boyfriend!hyojin who always has to hear your daily concerns about his scalp health. after the third time he had sported bright red hair, you had started to get worried about him permanently damaging his scalp. and while you still love the look on him, you're quick to research helpful hair products for him to use. on days when he's absolutely too tired from practice to do almost anything, you always offer to wash his hair for him, giving him a head massage which turns into a neck massage which turns into a full back massage all because his body is so sore and worn out and you hate to see him in any type of pain.

boyfriend!hyojin who always plans dates even when his schedule is a bit more packed than usual. you're not sure how he's able to balance everything all at once, but he does it seamlessly, and it becomes one of the many many things you adore about him. he always does his best to text you every day, just to see how you're doing. even when he comes back home so late that you're already asleep, and leaves early before you're awake, he'll leave sticky notes around the room for you to find when you wake up or a good morning text reminding you that he loves you.

boyfriend!hyojin who has been keeping a ring that he had bought months ago hidden in his bedside table drawer, pondering over when the right time to give it to you was. he's confident that you'll say yes, but he wants to try to make the moment as romantic as possible, just to show you how much you mean to him. he asks seungjun (who self-proclaimed he was an expert at love despite being single) how he should go about it, and starts to plan out the whole proposal a few weeks in advance.

military husband!hyojin who texts you whenever he's allowed to use his phone, and calls whenever you're available to. he wishes he could be with you more than anything, but he's excited to be able to see you during his musical performances that are quickly approaching.

military husband!hyojin who knows you'll be in the audience to see him in the musical, and so his eyes search for you as soon as he's up on stage. he smiles so big when he sees you in the front row watching him, and his eyes never leave you throughout the entire time he's performing. you soak up the sound of his lovely voice which you hadn't heard in person for months.

military husband!hyojin who when he's finally discharged can barely keep his hands off of you. he was never the clingy type, but the lengthy separation has him kissing you whenever he gets the chance, and holding your hand whenever he can't. you treat him to his favourite meal as a post military celebration, and you've never seen him so happy since your wedding day.

husband!hyojin who works twice as hard at everything he does after his enlistment, knowing that there's nothing more that can separate him from you. he lives every day in a reality that had only felt like a distant dream when he was in the military; waking up every morning with you by his side, and falling asleep every night with you safely in his arms. he's thankful every day for how lucky he got with you, and he makes sure he knows how much you mean to him. but in the end, he's still your precious, nerdy, lovable best friend who you met as a teenager, dated, and was lucky enough to marry and call your husband.

He is so absorbed in the new drama you two started that his hand is resting inside the popcorn bucked. With your head laying on his shoulder, you chuckled at yourself and accidentally steal his attention. "What's funny?" he asks scratching his chin on your hair.

You pull your head out of his shoulder and turn to look at him as you explain with humor adorning your face "You. You're funny"

Your smiley and pretty face is enough to tug his attention fully to you. Hyo locks you in a bear-like hug, your face fits in the curve of his neck. The way he smells sweet yet mainly got you nuzzling then kissing and sucking on his skin.

"Y/n you should be careful" your boyfriend advises. You feel his grip loosening

"Why?" you whisper still smoothly moving against him.

"Stop or I'm gonna take you to my bedroom"

J-Us (Seungjun):

His arrival probably was very silent because you simply find him laying on the couch. In fact, you wondered why he was taking so much to come back from the match with his friends. Now you were muddled staring at him apparently sleeping on his stomach, his face buried in a cushion.

"They tired you up, right?" You ask without waiting for an answer. Your palm runs up and down his back, affectionate movements.

You observed his humid hair, then the nape of his neck, his shoulders. You barely thought before straddling his torso to start a massage. The pressure should be collected not to hurt him, anyways his mumbles did not take much to say hello.

"Hey, babe." you greet peppering kisses on his nape, which made him wriggle.

"Hey, beautiful. What you want from me?"

"I just taking care of you, Jun."

"Sweetheart, I may look like a trash bag on the couch but I still have energy to wreck you."

E-Tion (Changyoon):

Those baggy jeans definitely suit him, you think walking into the bedroom. He also wears a cool cap turned backward. The motif on it reminds you of athletes, maybe baseball players. It does not matter, he probably got a good mirror selfie to post. He is still analyzing pictures that are all pretty similar to each other, so you hug him from behind and reassure him without even looking at the scream. "You look pretty in all of them".

He silently chuckles. "I've already chosen. I guess." he ponders. He was actually about to take more pictures just for the sake of it before your arrival. The way your arms rested around him changed his mind nonetheless. "Wanna take a selfie with me, honey?" he suggests "You're pretty too"

You dressed up in the bathroom, thus he has not seen your look yet. He is being a cute boyfriend as usual and deserves a kiss for it. A kiss on his nape. He does not say a word after that, also you feel his abdomen getting rigid under your hold. "Changie?"

"Oh, hey. Are we still going out? Because, huh, that kiss was hot"

Wyatt (Jaeyoung):

The mattress budges a tiny bit when he sits next to you, but you pretend you are asleep. He has not lit the room nor made any noise, Jaeyoung simply stays there, immobile. You want to chuckle for some reason but you do not. Maybe it is because he has got perfectly fooled, he is too nice to this world.

"Sorry, princess" he suddenly whispers close to your face before kissing your temple, then you lose.

"I'm still awake, dear" you sit and try to see his face through the half-light. There is light coming from the corridor and his lips form an adorable arch. It is impossible not to lean toward him for a hug. Your head finds its place in the crook of his neck and you lay a breathy kiss there. His response comes with a sigh.

"I was planning to take a shower and just lie with you. Do you have other plans by any chance?"

MK (Minkyun):

His fingers lingered intertwined with yours. That was peaceful, the opposite of Minkyun. You could pay attention to his scent, to the warmth of his chest against your back, plus you were almost sure you could feel his heartbeat. A part of you wanted to comment on his stillness, so you did. "How did I get you like this for so much time, my lemon boy?"

He then shifted just a bit, nestling you more comfortably. Was it possible? "This view is amazing. Thanks for bringing me here at this time. I guess I'm inspired."

"Are Fuses getting a new song?" you asked excitedly and turned to him, just enough to lean the side of your head on his shoulder.

"Nah, the song will be for you, my muse". The answer was followed by a caress on your head. You ended up kissing his neck, which was so close.

"Oh!" His surprise did not make you move your face from his neck. Quite the opposite, you kept kissing him. "No, baby. Stop, please. I don't think you will be up to having sex in the car. Or??

Yuto:

There is now a pile of t-shirts next to you on his bed. They were all rigorously ironed. Yuto came to collect them but you stopped him. "This one is so stylish. Can I borrow it?" you ask your boyfriend with puppy eyes.

Yuto melts at your cuteness. He is not the type to admit but you know it! He puts that silly smile on before giving you the green light. "The tee is yours from now on, okay?"

He organizes everything inside his drawer and comes back to you with a satisfied demeanor. "Thank you for waiting until I'm done. What do you wanna do now?"

"Nothing. Is it possible?" You softly pull him down on the mattress by the collar. He shows no resistance. All yours. Oh, you want to kiss all over him. Of course, that is not related to the gift you had just gotten. You throw your leg on top of him and start the rain of kisses from his jawline down his neck. He just let you be, since you seem to be having fun.

Once you were done, he warns you. "Hey, sweetie. It's my turn. I won't be as cute as you though."

Hi, I'm super curious about this. Do you happen to know if there were any other Idols from a group who used this companion enlistment? Or was there ever a group were all members were gone at the same time? I think it's a great system and I imagine its a big mental help to go together.

Jaeyoung and Seungjoon from ONF enlisted in the same unit in 2021 I believe, and it’s been generally assumed this was under the ‘buddy program’ but I never actually checked at the time to confirm. They’re both out now so I suppose the system worked for them.

Also, all the Korean members of ONF enlisted together, within about a month in late 2021. The group has one Japanese member who doesn’t need to enlist. They’re all back now and it seems going around the same time turned out to be the right choice for them.
