I wish a happy, peaceful and stress-free birthday to my beloved @unbeknownstunknown I hope your day will be at least okay, but hopefully as wonderful as you are. (I'm not sure if you still like Nicercy or not, but hopefully yes. 🫣) I love you my dear. I wish you the best, because you deserve it!
Grover knew things. Most people didn't realize that; next to the big Percy Jackson, he was basically invisible. Even after following Pan's footsteps, he was still just a background character. Not that he minded, of course! He'd rather be just a side note than live through what Percy had to experience in all of his life. (He would NEVER want to be a demigod. No way.)
So, it wasn't like he minded being forgotten by people who weren't his friends. It made it possible to see things; to hear things.
To know things.
Like how the Stolls did most of their pranks. Or how Rachel found the loophole in her virginity oath. (That one was not something he wanted to know. Like, come on, girl! With Thalia?! Not something Grover wanted to know about his friends…)
Or how Nico di Angelo has been in love with Percy ever since the first time he looked at him. And how the literal second half of his soul has been in love with Nico ever since the guy saved their asses in the Battle of Manhattan. To be fair… the two of them weren't subtle. (Yet they still didn't realize their feelings. Idiots.)
Usually he stayed out of other's lives. He knew their secrets, but they were not his to spread. He just kept them. Like pretty jewels on a shelf; pretty, but basically useless. He only interjected when it was really important. Like in the battles. When he had to notify Percy about new rumors from Olympus. When there were gossips about Juniper.
But… maybe some secrets were more important to share than to keep.
For years, he saw the pinning grow. How crush turned into love, how suspicion turned into blind trust. Sometimes he suspected he knew them better than they knew themselves. He'd seen them grow up, from naive mortals to battle-hardened almost-gods.
He was the happiest he'd ever been with Juniper; didn't Percy, his soulmate, deserve the same happiness? Deciding to get involved was a scary thought. But not as scary as it was to imagine his best friend settling down with not having the best thing for him. To imagine Grover getting married and having the love of his life for the rest of their immortal lives, while Percy was thinking he wasn't loved, adored and cherished by Nico.
That was unacceptable.
He loved Juniper. He wanted to marry her, to have children with her, to spend the rest of their immortal lives with her. And seeing Nico and Percy laughing with each other, “talking” without any spoken discussion, being so comfortable with each other, yet believing their feelings were unreciprocated… Grover knew.
They deserved to have the same thing he had with his beloved.
Getting the two together was probably easier than expected, but harder than it sounded. He went shopping for Juniper's ring, taking Percy and Nico with him. For moral support, of course.
Not because he knew that as soon as they would get into the store, the two of them would stare at the rings with interest. Nope.
“Nico?” Grover asked. The younger boy raised his eyebrow curiously. “Do you think Percy's and Juniper's fingers are the same size? I forgot to ask about her ring size.”
Nico thought for a second, turning his head to look at Percy. Grover already knew the answer. “Yeah, I think so.”
They looked at the glass, studying the rings under it for a bit longer. Grover imagined how the rings would look on Juniper's gorgeous finger, and he suspected Nico was also thinking the same, except in his mind it was Percy's finger.
The Sea Prince was walking back and forth in the shop, like the ADHD demigod he was, before he walked up to them, throwing an arm around Nico's shoulder to check on their progress.
“Percy, I need your help,” Grover said. “Your finger is the same size as Juniper's and I want to see which ring would fit on her.”
Maybe seeing a ring on Percy's finger, Nico would realize he should put a ring on it.
“What do you think,” he turned towards Nico, “would look the best on-? I mean… If you were buying a ring for Percy, which one do you think would fit?”
His two friends were staring at him, bewildered. Too much? Probably.
“That.”
But it worked. Nico's answer was too quick, his choice was too perfect to hide he was thinking about it before.
“Oh,” Percy sighed. The ring really was perfect. Thin silver band with a tiny blue stone in it; deceptively graceful, just like Percy was.
“I would wear it,” Percy confessed, eyes still on the jewelry, his ears suspiciously red.
“Oh,” Nico exhaled.
“I would…” the Ghost King coughed, light blush pinkening his unhealthy pale skin. “I would buy it. For you. If you want, that's it. From me.”
It was painful to watch. Like a chariot crash. But Grover couldn't look away. It was happening!
“I mean… if it was you buying it, for me… That would be. Uh. I'd love that?”
They were so awkward. It was adorable. Grover felt like he was both the proud big brother of both, and the long-suffering love expert who has been waiting for this moment for years.
“You- really?!” Nico looked so excited; like a puppy. Hellhound, Grover admitted, but a puppy nonetheless.
Percy swallowed. “Yes,” he breathed.
Nico's mouth dropped open a little, as if he was surprised at how easy it was. Well. Probably it was surprising for him. Grover knew.
“Would you- really? Will you… Is it just…”
Percy blushed, redder than Grover ever had seen him before. “I will marry you. If. If that's what you- Was that? I mean.”
“Yes.” Nico was nodding, like one of those little toy dogs in the cars, bobbing his head up and down. “Percy. Will you marry me?”
Grover sighed, not bothering to hide his proud smile. Finally! After years and years and years… It was finally happening.
“Yes.”

Percico for the ship ask game?
(It's been years since the last time I read any PJO... I basically only really remember the Olympians series and I don't really understand their appeal, so, enlighten me? 😆)

OKAY SO!
Nicercy is one of those ships that has this one particular Gay Yearning appeal for me personally as a gay. That "it's canon in a one-sided capacity, on the gay side" and most gays have been there, in love with a straight friend. So there is an element of wish-fulfillment with these kind of ships there for me. The "but what if he WASN'T straight?" (and that is an argument to be had about Percy a lot all the time), so what if Nico could HAVE his first love.
What if Nico could have the guy he's been in love with for years. The guy he's been mooning over to Hades about in canon. The guy he's been challenged about by Cupid himself.
By all things given in canon, Nico's love for Percy is set up in such epic and tragic proportions - from the very beginning, with that tentative crush but then Percy promises to protect Nico's sister and then Nico's sister dies on Percy's watch and Nico wants to hate Percy, but Nico can never hate Percy because Nico is already in love with Percy at this point, so Nico spends all of the PJO series protecting Percy, torn in his own feelings and desires.
And what if it doesn't have to be a tragedy. And what if it doesn't have to be that "gay in love with the Straight Protagonist", what if the fucking god of love and desire didn't have to forcibly out him for naught about his first love that leads to nothing? What if Nico can actually have that first love?
There is so much wish-fulfillment and yearning stored in the Nico side of this ship for me, as the shipper. A yearning to see this be happy instead of tragic, my own yearning, not just Nico's canonical yearning on the pages. But also that. Lot of yearning.
All the things Nico did, in canon, for the specific canonical reason of being in love with Percy. The way he risked his life in the labyrinth trying to save Percy, how Nico was the only one looking for a way to save Percy's life from the Great Prophecy - not the genius daughter of Athena, not Lord Poseidon the actual god, not Chiron, or anyone else at camp, only Nico and he was the one to find the Curse of Achilles that in the end did save Percy's life throughout the war - and Nico stood up to Hades himself to protect Percy, Nico was one of the few people who went out there searching for Percy when Hera abducted him. Nico's dedication to Percy is what really cements them as one of my all time biggest ships.
And with everything that Percy has been through in both wars, that is the kind of love I think he deserves. Someone who is willing to fight at his side, someone looking out for him, someone standing at his side and ready to protect him too.
I think that this is the love that they both deserve.
Then there is the obvious power contrast appeal of the underworld and the ocean. Just, that in itself is something that really appeals to me, to be honest? The pure, raw, overwhelming might of these incredibly powerful demigods?

“You look so constipated, Nico,” Reyna tilted her head amused.
The two of them had gone to law-school together and became friends quite quickly and after graduation, Nico pulled some strings to make sure Reyna would get a spot at his father's law-firm. Their law-firm. Nico had to get used to that. Now that he was working his way up. The two of them were partners already and even though everyone knew it was a given for Nico, seeing he was the son, he had worked hard to actually earn this place.
“You know how much I hate meeting new people,” Nico grumbled a little. “Thank you, for being here, Reyna. It means a lot to have someone else backing me up.”
“Backing you up,” parroted Reyna with a chuckle. “You're not facing an opposition in a court, Nico. These are your wife's friends, who are finally coming over for dinner. You kept them waiting for long enough, she's been working at that school for nearly a year now.”
Nico made a face, instead busying himself with the pasta he was preparing as a side-dish for the chicken Parmesan he was making for dinner. It was true that he had ditched a couple of dinners already, but he really hated meeting new people. He was happy enough that Rachel enjoyed her job at the school and happier even that she had made friends, since she'd said that she felt lonely before. But must he meet these new people too? He didn't need any more friends. He had Rachel and Reyna, was that not enough? How many friends must one have?
“Besides,” Reyna tried to sound nonchalant and failed. “Among them, if I'm not mistaken, is that omega she keeps talking about, right? Percy Jackson.”
That gave Nico pause and made him frown annoyed. Reyna knew. She knew everything. It was why they had become such good friends. She'd caught him in college, sneaking around with her high school best friend Jason Grace when he had been visiting. She knew he was gay, she knew his marriage to Rachel was one of friendship. Recently, Rachel had started talking about someone, for the first time since their wedding. While Nico had the occasional fling – at first only one-night-stands, but soon even something akin to relationships, as he grew more confident in himself and more accepting of his own homosexuality – Rachel had never quite shown any interest in someone before. She said her true love was art and that she was quite happy with the arrangement the two of them had; if she needed anything more, she would tell him, as he had told her.

It was just, out of all the signs of Nico's love, the most adorably dumb one like holy shit boy ur so in love you really will walk head first into an obvious trap for this boy, huh.

Kay so for the ship, I'm going with KaiShin!
And I do think that they fit both Rivals to Lovers and Enemies to Lovers. Technically, they are enemies - the law vs the criminal. But despite that, they treat each other more as rivals (which makes little sense considering they are on opposing sides of the law and rivals would be competing about the same thing - it's not like Kaito wants to be a detective or Shinichi tries to be a better magician xD).
Workplace romance too, in a way, but like lol
Also a two sides of the same coin kinda ship. Opposites attract.

21: accidentally knocking your head into someone’s chin
Nico heaved a tired sigh when he entered their apartment. He'd been at the library studying for his upcoming exams until... well, until the librarian had basically chased him out with a broom and threats. Being a college student was unnecessarily exhausting, so he found himself looking forward to being home, with his boyfriend. Hoping his boyfriend would be home already.
“Ni—ico—o,” Percy called out in a very drawled-out manner.
Mh, that figured. Percy had already finished his last exam, so he had gone out to celebrate with some of his friends. Nico smiled fondly as he shed his jacket and walked toward the source of the voice. Their living room. The two of them had gotten this place in New Rome together two years ago, back when Nico entered college. This was a huge step in their relationship and Nico had been really nervous at first, but he honestly couldn't be more happy than he was now, waking up with Percy in his arms every single day, sharing meals and a space with his boyfriend.
“You're ho—ome, I missed yo—ou,” declared Percy happily.
As soon as Nico was within reach, Percy wrapped his arms and legs around him like a huge, cuddly octopus, pulling him closer and clinging onto him. The smile on Nico's lips softened a little as he tried to adjust himself, attempting to sit down with Percy. Only that once Nico was getting down, Percy's head snapped up to look up at him and his head collided hard with Nico's chin.
“Ouch,” Nico cussed beneath his breath in Italian as pain shot through him.
“No—o, I am so sorry I didn't mean to damage my Nico, I just wanted a kiss!”
Percy looked like a miserable, drowned kitten at that, guilt all over his face. Rubbing his pulsing chin, Nico leaned in to kiss Percy in a soothing manner. Nico was the one with a hurting chin, but his boyfriend was the miserable one that needed soothing. That was drunk Percy for you.
“It's okay. Doesn't really hurt at all,” assured Nico, smoothing down Percy's hair. “All good.”
“So you're not angry? Can I have Nico-cuddles?” asked Percy hopefully.
Like anyone, truly anyone, could deny those huge, pleading sea-green eyes anything. Nico awkwardly found a way to lay down with Percy without dislodging his octopus of a boyfriend. Wrapping his own arms around Percy's waist, he pulled him closer, leaning in to brush his lips against Percy's cheek. The son of Poseidon started giggling as Nico kissed him.
“You had fun celebrating?” asked Nico, running his hands along Percy's side.
That only made Percy giggle even more, burying his face in Nico's neck. “No—o. Missed you.”
Of course he did. Nico's heart melted as he kissed his boyfriend again. How was Percy this cute...?

I wish canon had given us a bit more of their interactions, but I really dig the way they compliment each other. Summoning the perfect storm together, dang that was some good shit.

After I got a comment earlier from a reader who was set out to binge all my Nicercy works in one night, I got into a debate with my girlfriend, who was claiming that it was actually doable.
I kept insisting that regardless of reading speed, it'd be too much for one night.
So, being me, I went and did the math on total word count. All my Nicercy fics, only Nicercy - meaning excluding all poly arrangements. Also excluding all fics where they were only a side pairing.
3.085.741 total word count.
Over three million words. For one ship. I still stand by that being too much to read in one night, but mainly it pleases me that it is really that much. It also means that literally 42% of my total word count is just this one ship.

For the ship ask: Why do you think Percico/Nicercy isn't popular? Or, at least, not as popular as it used to be.

Well, two very simple answers as to why it isn’t as popular: It’s not canon and half of the ship is in a canon mlm ship!
Seriously, back in the olden days, the early days of this fandom, the major complaint about the ship was “why would you do that? Perc/abeth is endgame!!! It’s canon!”.
Then came that short, brief period around House of Hades, when Nico’s feelings for Percy became canon and the ship’s popularity skyrocketed. Because one-sided gay still beats canon straight, apparently, and it got more interesting than Perc/abeth.
And then Blood of Olympus was released and Riordan rushed Nico into a rebound because, well, Perc/abeth is canon and he’s not gonna break up his favorite ship. And suddenly, all the people who flocked toward it after HoH immediately left again, taking many of the shippers who had been here before just... with them, to jump on board of the canon gays.
I... don’t mean to be snarky about this, but... that’s how it is. If a fandom has a canon queer ship to offer, it tends to attract all the attention, at least about those two characters and other ships involving them are... only barely existent, really. They end up the little, ignored rowboats next to a big luxury cruiser, so to speak.

Though now I feel like I gotta preface my answer by addressing genderbending xDDD
I don’t actually mind or dislike genderbending en large; I generally think it can be a very intriguing thought-experiment to be had! Also it’s real fun to see explored in fanarts where you got the visual of it.
What I mind is one-sided genderbending to make ships more “palatable” by only genderbending one half of a ship; and I do mean both the for me very homophobic-smelling take of turning a wlw/mlm ship straight and the peculiar act of turning a m/f ship into a wlw/mlm ship because it is also weird to me if you can’t find it in yourself to like any m/f ships... even the ones you clearly like.
If you bend them both, or the entire cast, I find that rather interesting and cool things have come out of those. So, nope, the answer is not genderbending. ;D
(And yes, I have, very briefly, written it once as a section of my Nicercy rebirth fic, where they were Victorian lesbians in one life. Though generally, this is not something I am particular to indulge in as a creator, I really do prefer looking at the visual side of that, as created by others. xD”)

Also the second part. Like. If you would pay me actual money I would actually fucking write straight porn for you and straight bend them beforehand, I would absolutely genderbend if you paid me for that. I like money?? If you gave me money for it, you could make me write a lot. xD
So, the bar for this one is actually really high. Something that I would genuinely never-ever write not even for money. That’d have to me something that fundamentally disgusts me to the point of making me too uncomfortable to engage with it in any way, not just something that makes me grumpy or annoyed or that I merely don’t like.
Also the “trope”. Because I could list you kinks here that I wouldn’t write for money. Tropes are harder. Even the blandest trope can be really enjoyable if you put the right twist on it.
Quite frankly, the only one I can think of is Friends to Enemies to Lovers. NOT Enemies to Lovers, that shit I adore. But Friends to Enemies to Lovers has to be one of THE ickiest ship dynamics I’ve ever encountered, the canon-dynamic that is born from Friends to Enemies is just so incredibly bad that the thought of them becoming Lovers after makes me genuinely incredibly uncomfortable and would be too gross for me to write, even if you were to pay me.

49: a kiss out of necessity

Nico di Angelo had pictured kissing Percy Jackson. Hehad pictured it a lot. Invarious scenarios. During breakfast, for example. Or camp-fire. AtChristmas there had been the temptation of mistletoe. Every singletime Percy got hurt.When they had been reunited in New Rome. Countless scenarios had runthrough Nico's head and countless different ways of kissing.
Soft, gentle, tender,deep, slow, fast, rough, needy, forceful, breathy, breathless,compassionate, raw, relentless, passionate, dreamy, careful – Nicohad pictured it all.
Never before had Nicoimagined their first kiss to be like this though. The biggestsurprise was probably Annabeth with the fake beard though, but Percyin a princess dress and a glass casket was a veryclose second (admittedly, Nico may have considered Percy in a dressbefore in one of the first kiss fantasies where he saved the princessfrom a dragon – and hey, he had been highly feverish that time,okay? Don't blame him). Annabeth cleared her throat at him.
“Would you... Wouldyou just kiss him now, please?”, asked Annabeth pointedly.
“What”,sputtered Nico and turned to look at her. “I mean, you already saidthat, but why. Canyou... explain what is going on here? Why are we wearing theseridiculous outfits...?”
“Ridiculous outfits,says the one who got the best outfit”, grunted Piper, arms crossed.“At least you get to look like a fancy prince and not like Grumpythe dwarf.”
“Please justexplain”, requestedNico, eyes on Percy in his glass casket.
“Let's call this aprank from my mother”, sighed Piper. “A prank on Percy. He reallyneeds to stop provoking gods. This one, since it is from Aphroditeherself, is about... love. Hence the ridiculous costumes. Only TrueLove's Kiss can wake our sleeping beauty here up.”
“Snow White”,corrected Annabeth, just to earn a glare from Piper. “What. Let'sbe accurate.”
“Why... Why me?”,asked Nico, tugging on his stupid outfit.
“It's a True Love'sCurse, di Angelo”, sighed Annabeth pointedly. “Percy is thecursed one. The only one able to break the curse is his True Love. Asindicated by the outfit. Now please,there have already been three fawns paying their respects to Percyand earlier, Grover and Leo sang a duet.”
Nico blinked a coupleof times. He wasPercy's True Love? With his heart hammering in his chest did he leandown until their lips met in a very tender but one-sided touch. Atleast until life returned to Percy and he grasped Nico by the neck topull him in. When they parted, he smiled sleepily.
“...Why is Annabethwearing a fake beard, Nico?”, asked Percy.
Nico paused before hestarted laughing loudly, resting his forehead on Percy's chest.

I think (about the side pairing thing) that it really depends on who you think fits more into the story and how natural it feels to write that pairing into that particular world. And if you have any side plots pertaining to any of those characters, which pairing do you think would fit better with it? But if all the pairings fit then I would just go with the one you want to write the most ☺️
You have a very good point there. Ships often change depending on the plot. The problem is that all of them bring a different kind of angle. So let’s break them down by what has me conflicted!

1. Reyna/Annabeth + Frank/Leo/Hazel + Piper/Nyssa
To be quite honest, the biggest problem here is that it’s the exact same combo as in my current multi-chapter Nicercy fic, so it’s running the risk of me mixing things up between the two fics, concerning the development of the side-pairings.
However, Piper/Nyssa is currently the shiny new thing I like exploring. Which also in itself would have a however argument against it, because I am currently exploring it - and I don’t know if I’ll do another like 10+ months commitment to the ship in this new fic just yet.
2. Reyna/Annabeth + Frank/Leo + Piper/Hazel
This would remove the Frank/Hazel angle, which might change the Nico-Frank dynamic. In this fic, Frank and Leo (and Reyna) are going to be on a team with each other. It’d be interesting to have Frank’s main angle be Nico this time around, instead of “Nico, his girlfriend’s brother”.
I am also really intrigued by the idea of Piper/Hazel, which would play an interesting role in the getting together of the three - because I’m going the “Piper and Jason (and Thalia) are stepsiblings through Tristan/Beryl” route, so we could have scheming little sisters as girlfriends. That could be a lot of fun.
3. Bianca/Annabeth + Frank/Leo/Hazel + Reyna/Piper
Again, scheming, but from a different angle. Annabeth is of course on Percy’s team (I’m excited to go full Golden Trio again for this), while Bianca is - obviously - Nico’s big sister. So that could be fun.
Reyna/Piper has - like Piper/Nyssa and Piper/Hazel - the benefit of being something new to play with. It’d be interesting to write them for a change.
4. Reyna/Annabeth + Frank/Hazel + Leo/Piper
Again, it’d break the norm. And also uh... add some more m/f. It just... always feels very excessive when there’s more wlw/mlm ships than m/f ships in a “random teens at school” AU; if it’s a fic settled specifically around a group of friends that came together and may have sought each other out as a queer community, it feels different.
I’m also just not too sure about having two threesomes in the fic, out of the same reasons as above. Considering the focus of the fic is going to be an OT3, I feel like it’d “take away” from that if there was just... another, casual threesome. Take away in the sense of - taking away from the anxiety and the confusion and the feeling of being different for the feelings they have, which is an interesting angle to work with in a coming of age story. If there’s three others being like “yeah we poly too it’s not a big deal” takes away from that plot. (This reason also applies to 2, obviously.)

I’m not too sure about how the ships would affect the plot though, because well - I haven’t figured the plot out that far ahead just yet. These things are often something that happens while writing. So aside from the Piper/Hazel and the Frank/Leo, I don’t really have a grasp on how it’d affect it.
I barely just figured out the world building and how their (godly) parents are going to fit into this...

Which one is more fond of scary movies: NICO! He loves them. He finds them hilarious. Also Percy gets clingy during them and that just makes them even better? Win/win all around ;D
Which one gets the most excited about Halloween: Percy though! Dress-up, candy, pranks? It’s like his holiday! Nico is wary at first, having never experienced Halloween before, but he does see the benefits of it *side-eyes Percy’s costume*
Which one would be more likely to survive the apocalypse: Both. Especially together!
Which one would literally kill for the other: Nico.
Which one likes to scare or startle the other: Percy! He loves to try, at least. He has never succeeded before *chuckles*
Which one is more likely to need comforting when they get spooked: Percy? He gets clingy during scary movies. Less so because of the scary and more so because - excuse for free Nico-cuddles!

Which one would be more dangerous if they suddenly became violent: Again, both. I mean holy shit they’re like the most powerful demigods in existence??
Which one would be more likely to commit a crime: Mmmh Nico. He has already broken in and entered. Most the time accidentally via shadowtravel though. ;D
Which one believes in ghosts: Both know ghosts are real, sooo
Which one likes to watch spooky show on television: As with the movie, it’s Nico for the above mentioned reasons *smirks*
Which one would propose the idea of holding a seance: Neither. They don’t need that kind of stuff
Which one has nightmares more often: Both of them, though Percy gets more nightmares, Nico has more control over them
Which one would want to explore a real haunted house: Percy! He thinks it’s fun, especially with his Ghost King *grins*

3. One emotional aspect of a ship that always gets you
I do love me those “playing tough and distanced to hide their feelings” type of characters, so what always gets me is when the other half of the ship sees behind that, sees the vulnerable, soft side that’s hiding behind those walls and is just completely there to hold them when they break down.
The same goes for those sunshine smile characters though, the ones who hide their soft and vulnerable side behind smiles and bright optimism. When their other half notices that and gives them a place to break down and not be optimistic anymore, to just let go.
That is my jam. *^*
(Guess that is why I find ships like Kanvers and Nicercy so appealing. They are both those tropes coming together in one ship and supporting each other.)

Mh, Haruichi, probably? I do love his and Eijun’s friendship, he would definitely be behind this ship a lot! ^o^

Eijun would be an idiot about it and totally go overboard, which is both flustering and pleasing for Miyuki though. xD

I kinda like the idea of Eijun having an Eevee. An unevolved Eevee. He’d totally let his little buddy take the time he needs to evolve into whatever form fits him best.
And... don’t ask me why, but I think Sableye would fit Miyuki really well? I can’t really explain it, but these two seem like a really good fit?
