i’d just like to remind everyone that the original bee and puppycat series on youtube is STILL canon like. everything happened in that still counts. (also i sound very pissy in this, especially the tags, but please know that it’s meant to be a lighthearted reminder)

lazy in space canonically picks up after the youtube series. think of the first couple of netflix episodes as a summary for people who have literally never heard of the show before. yes, it has its faults (i’ve seen people calling it “too boring”, weird pacing, etc etc whatever) but think of it as a weird recap. it’s there for the sake of getting us comfortable to the new style and adding more exposition/character background. again, it has its faults with that but i’m not here to discuss that. the point is that the first couple netflix episodes are basically for people who have literally never heard of bee and puppycat before and maybe saw an ad or two, or opened netflix and saw this new charming show or whatever, and are seeing it for the first time. it’s not expected of them to immediately google the title and watch the original. yes, we lost some iconic lines and scenes in the recap, but those are still canon, they’re still up and we can watch them; and again it was for the sake of the recap and added exposition. like it’s because of the remade episodes that we know more about bee’s dad. that we know more about bee’s past and puppycat’s connection to that. we’ve gotten more hints and background details that add to the story, characters, and the future of the show (the three separate music boxes, the symbols on the screens of puppycat’s ship, how deckard and cass see bee [“weird old lady girl”], literally more info on cardamon besides “he’s a child landlord and is sad and stressed”, etc etc etc)

like i can get the parts that are frustrating to long time fans, i literally have the original memorized so uh. i get it, but still. it’s more than just “we retconned things LOL!” because i don’t really think it was retconning. original plots were a little simplified but they added more to what we already knew. whatever, i’m off topic. the point is: yes, it’s sad that netflix doesn’t have those iconic lines but those are still canon. the original is still canon. lazy in space canonically takes place after the original series. take that as you will.

the really fun thing about braime is that they are both the beauty and the beast which means i can picture brienne OR jaime flopping down dramatically in a field somewhere and singing "and for once it might be grand to have someone understand i want so much more than they've got planned."

I think this came out rather well considering I haven't touched drawing charcoal since 2019. I'm especially proud of how the flag and skirt came out, and the hair isn't half bad either. It's also not my strong suit: I was taught to do portraits in charcoal and this definitely isn't that. And naturally I only spent about 2 hours on it. I have a strict rule against spending longer on a charcoal piece than it takes for my lips to go numb. (I chew on my lips while doing charcoal and can't seem to be able to stop.)

As for the subject material... as a child I was told that if the War of the Ring had been lost, Arwen would have traveled to the Grey Havens and gone into the West, and that bugged me. I think the main reason was because I considered (and still do consider, to be honest) a betrothal to be an equally serious and binding commitment as the actual marriage. (Which is why I don't watch many romcoms; it bothers me inordinately that the leading lady usually ends up breaking off a betrothal because she fell for some kind of dashing rogue she's known for like 3 days.) So my interpretation of the text is that Arwen chose her fate when she accepted Aragorn's proposal (or before) and not when she actually married him -- meaning she had already chosen not to go into the West by the time the events of the book rolled around, regardless of the outcome of the war. Regardless of the actual intended weight of the betrothal within the text, Tolkien certainly didn't write Arwen's appearance in Return of the King to suggest that it was a huge turning point for her or she was making some kind of Big Choice; it was just the realization of a future hoped for. I think this contributed greatly to my interest in Bad LotR AUs.

This image doesn't belong to any specific AU, it's just a concept of Arwen approaching Mordor or possibly Barad-dur alone, carrying the banner she made Aragorn and Aiglos -- representing her two heritages and the strength of Elves and Men that she intends to challenge Sauron with. Probably Aragorn is being held prisoner and she's after rescuing him for ~*~ thematic parallels ~*~. And Sauron is not going out to meet her. Learned that lesson already.

i’ve told this story but when i was in year four the best teacher i’ve ever had got frustrated by the fact that we weren’t having science lessons— we were a tiny rural catholic primary school, and the woman who taught science came in from offsite up until i guess she couldn’t be bothered anymore. and so my teacher sought to compensate through what i imagine were varied means, but what i remember is the two consecutive days where he passed the butcher on the way into work and brought us a) a pig bone and then b) a cow heart, which he hacked open with one of the woodwork saws we never used and encouraged us all to touch marrow and flesh respectively

#i don’t think i could convey to you how absolutely seismic he was. my mother sees his wife around sometimes and she asks after me #one day he sat us down and played us music and just wanted to know what we thought. it was hey joe by the jimi hendrix experience #i found the piece of paper i’d written my notes on a while ago. it was so stunning then to be asked what we thought like that #another time i asked him what we had after lunch and he said it ought to be maths but he’d seen some leaf rubbings the other day so we went #out and did that. he had a peculiar convoluted murder mystery thing that involved walking us all around the graveyards and empty buildings #in town. he wore hawaiian shirts all the time and played the guitar #and at the root he was the first person to think i was not too shaky at the whole english thing. sent me and some other people on these day #courses where you fucked around and wrote haikus about leaves #we put on one play where the central song was malvina reynolds’ little boxes. we had another structured around a flaming lips album #we went camping as a class and i told a horrible histories ghost story that freaked him out about a pharoah’s daughter without hands #he wrote a parody of the house of the rising sun to teach us how many millilitres were in a litre. we played myst on the smartboard
