i am of the opinion that there was plenty of stuff "wrong" with steven universe, whether from a writing standpoint or a poor/untasteful decisions standpoint, but i have to say: keeping up with all the hazbin hotel/helluva boss drama (a set of shows that are legitimately very rough in all aspects of its handling, from writing, to sensitive topics, to creator involvement) as well as looking at sugar's writing on adventure time is like... making me appreciate how well a lot of it was done still

this show had tons of great songs, interesting characters and stories, lots of perfectly well done emotional beats, and rebecca sugar also... stayed out of the discussions around stuff LOL. they are genuinely a talented writer, some of adventure time's most beloved episodes, songs, and emotions are from them, even before they left to start their own show. but because of how much of a shitshow the discourse was, it's like, tainted all the actually good things in the show for a lot of people, even though these discussions can totally coexist. i really don't think it's "irredeemable media" by a long shot. and like, i'm serious in that i 100% believe there are justified conversations about how they handled things, regarding actual important topics like racism -- i kept up with the critical community when it was big on here! but i also think it is true that it has become kind of a "cringe" sore spot as well, that people no longer want to associate with it or feel like they're allowed to enjoy it casually, even for nostalgia reasons, because of discourse rather than the weight of the actual material itself. that's definitely how i've felt for a long time, at least, to the point where i feel like i even have to clarify these things and the issues i also have with it, even though it's truly just a cartoon with issues like any other and not something to specifically be held on a pedestal... i haven't seen it in a long time now, but one day i would like to rewatch it, and hopefully in a bit more peace

end of small sanctuary: this one always makes me think of raph and gwyn, specifically, sitting on city high-point at sunset. much like how it's used in SH3 when heather is just being a teenager at the mall and is probably music she'd listen to, this very much gives me the energy and warmth of raph and gwyn sitting in the setting sun, high above the city, with maybe some food and light conversation. a breath between The Horrors™.

dúlaman: i've been trying to find and listen to more celtic/irish music for a lot of reasons (so if you know any pls gib), but one is to better cultivate the sound and energy of liáfsian folksongs and music.

spanish sahara: how could i make this list without one of the songs that never fails to fuck me up. spanish sahara has been the driving 'score' in my head when it's come to a number of story scenes or character moments due to the slow build and emotional release of the song as well as the lyrics. i dunno. this song just moves and inspires me in ways i can't quite articulate.

tsunami: this song just feels so strongly like aislinn to me. the lost-lover part, sure, but especially the feeling of drowning and just... the instrumentals/vocals feel like her, too. i associate her a lot with water.

rainy day: no specific scenario here, but this score makes me think of and want to draw don or leo. the game it's from kind of has a melancholic nostalgia to it, and the vibe sits well with them.

inner universe: this song is all vibes for me, and it always makes me think of entering the territory of one of the liáfsian dragons and crossing paths with it. specifically the dragon i associate with leo.

no turning back: this score is fully for gwyn being on the run. the title, the strings, the faint ticking clock and building drums toward the end, the urgency throughout. it is, for better or worse, a reflection of what so much of her life has felt like.

give a fuck: sounds and feels like a nyxram song. hard to explain, this one just always makes me think of her.

resting grounds: this score's on my playlist for the liáfsian ruins, which is an area in the realm considered to be cursed ground (but no one knows or remembers why). the ruins are beautiful, peaceful. but you never quite have the sense that you're truly alone.

apocalypse: this song always makes me think of PtINL, i can't really explain why. it's on my personal playlist for the fic, and every time it comes on shuffle it just sends me back into thoughts of mikey, aloy, their travels and their bond.

empires: this song always makes me think of a 'trailer' for gwyn and ash's arc. i think it's accurate not only for how the final conflict between gwyn, ash and darach will go down, but there's a hint at a much older threat in there and "the tides are turned" being that companionship has been found in the turtles.

CG Man HD Remastered Edition

Season 3 Featured on: Inspector Gunner 2 With Critic

That's right - while I was digging through the Nostalgia Critic takeover of Season 3 to cover Fragile Snowman (Remastered), I was reminded of yet another of its fantastic remasters. And while the former rip is mostly associated with the very beginnings of the channel, ones that were oft quite simple in concept yet still unpredictable in contents, the original version of CG Man HD Remastered Edition is in the far opposite camp: as part of the Season 1 finale.

And like, look, it's not that I INTENTIONALLY cover so many rips from around the time of Season 1 ending in particular. Really, it's just a natural consequence of the event having some of the channel's most memorable rips, as if everyone was firing on all cylinders to leave a mark on the channel before its (supposed) end. Memey Hell, Planet Wisp Mashup Medley, File Select Fusion Collab, Everyday Goodbyes (SiIvaGunner Band Cover), Stone Halation, and of course - Epic Flintstones - all had this underlying tinge of bittersweetness to them, as if to encourage us to smile despite the very real possibility that the channel would never return, never be truly recaptured. And as a remix of the late-90s Nickelodeon kids' childhood anthem, CG Man HD Remastered Edition falls right under that same umbrella.

I've covered a few rips of Donkey Kong 64 on here, of course, with Friday Night Minecartin' and DK Rap God, yet the latter rip and its insane sentence mixing of the DK Rap was only made possible through the influence of DK64's most famous rip on the channel - The Coconut Gun Rap. Made early in the channel's life by the ever-talented Harmony Friends, its classic YTP sentence mixing in a direction few would expect, focusing on Donkey Kong's hit weapon the Coconut Gun. The rip is an actual masterpiece that I'm well overdue to cover on here, yet the most brilliant part of it is that its able to referenced in its entirety through nothing but a two-second soundbyte - the Coconut Gun lyric itself! Ever since its release, the Coconut Gun soundbyte has appeared in numerous rips, including the aforementioned File Select Fusion Collab, but few rips feel as much like a whollistic tribute to it as the one in focus today.

Indeed, by being based on Ocean Man from Ween, more well known as the credits theme to The SpongeBob Movie, there's an inherent bittersweetness attached to the song, something I imagine is only enhanced by the nostalgia-factor for those who grew up with the movie (sorry, spongeheads). Yet, those feelings ARE enhanced by the Coconut Gun cover itself, as CG Man HD Remastered Edition and its non-remastered counterpart is an all-new sentence-mixed cover of the song, again in the same vein as DK Rap God. To my knowledge, this was one of the first time that a rip utilized sentence mixing the DK Rap *after* the debut of The Coconut Gun Rap, and it sort of ends up feeling like a full-circle moment as a result? I mean, sure, it is still edited to be spouting obscenities and insults, but it would almost feel out of character if it wasn't - that is to clarify, out of character for a sentence-mixing shitpost.

Because that was part of the magic of the Season 1 finale, the magic of The Reboot, and really the magic of SiIvaGunner's lore in general. It made a lot of us genuinely care and become attached to jokes, mere tools to be used by rippers for shitposts. Because the team's just had such a good track record of paying tribute to and building atop a joke's prior established history, keeping them "in character" as it were, to where it did actually end up feeling bittersweet to see them all go in the Season 1 finale. File Select Fusion Collab captures that essence more whollistically, but for The Coconut Gun Rap in particular as a meme, I could not think of a more befitting sendoff than CG Man HD Remastered Edition.

The fun part of it all is that I can make whatever changes I want, rather than something I regret adding I regret taking away their heart shaped horns, Cassiopeia is the one with those horns now but Cashmere used to have them but badly drawn (I got rid of them because I couldn’t draw them well lmao)

♡ the worst future for Cashmere would be one in which they return to their family and their life goes back to how it was before they died! They struggle a lot with how they view each member of their family and their relationship with each of their family members but even then they know that the last thing they want is to go back to being nothing more than a pawn to their family!

♡ hmmm I think Cashmere’s bouquet would be a mix of lily of the valley (meaning to return to happiness), bleeding hearts (symbolizes love and sorrow), and then maybe the fake flower I made, love me nots which symbolize unrequited love, none of these really look great together but it’s 1:50am as I write this and these are the flowers I always associate with Cashmere! (There was another flower I was thinking about in relation to them the other day but I forgor) also I got the flower meanings from a quick search so don’t kill me if I’m wrong, the only one I’m certain about is the flower I made up lol

all the albums are really good to me

i think i'm less into three days grace (album) and transit of venus but even those two got real bangers in them

i have prolly listened the most to one-x and life starts now so nostalgia is really at play here

human is more mature (/melancholic?) and i think growing up i was able to understand it more and more, making it a landmark for me; but outsider feels like rebellious teenage years so they went along great during my highschool/uni experience (human being the will to belong and outsider being the will to be unique)

and well i'ven't got much time to get as familiar with explosions as the others but that's some real shit right there and somehow feels like a comeback to more heavy rock which i appreciate.

Every person complaining Loreen is "cheating" by using "an old formula" is redundant because if majority of people like it and the jury like it, that's the game. Like why are you mad that she is making music that people probably will enjoy listening to and therefore vote on accordingly?

Yes she has an advantage having won the competition before and having that reputation, but it's not like she can opt out of that.

This is perhaps a bit hypothetical, intuitive and kinda maybe subjective, but in my experience we humans do not only enjoy music on the basis of the elements in the music itself. It's also based on all of the associations that we have to the music, as well as to the act in this case. If you're with me so far, then it's a pretty safe to say that a lot of people have the 2012 performance and win associated with Loreen and probably also the joy that you potentially felt when that happened if you where one of the people that liked Euphoria. Then this would be the "bias" that I guess people seems to criticize Tattoo for "exploiting". This criticism rests on the assumption that this is a cheap way to gain favour because it isn't a "part" of the performance or the music I guess. But I would argue that these associations very much is, and should part of the performance and should count to the enjoyment of the performance just as much as anything else. Why should the association to Euphoria be discredited as a pleasure that Tattoo might or might not conjure forth, depending on your personal taste etc? If it's good to you, it's good!

Continuing on, she's an artist (just like everyone else in Eurovision) wich should mean that she wants to reach out with her art, so why would she not compete in eurovision?

I've read people who seems to be upset that she's competing because it's supposedly so extremely clear that she would win no matter what (and let's not forget that the reason for this would be because people enjoy the music right? which I guess god forbid we get music that we enjoy listening to wether it's because of nostalgia felt for the artist, their talent or the production). This is inaccurate for mainly two reasons in my opinion, the first being that she competed in 2017 (after she recently won with euphoria so the "bias" should have been a lot more strong than now, no?) And lost even though the song, in my opinion, was much more interesting than either euphoria (sorry, I might just be desensitised to it at this point) or Tattoo. Regardless of her "exploiting" her reputation as a good artist I guess. So now she's going back to a sound that resembles euphoria with tattoo wich is absolutely fair I feel like. The second reson is that it would take a true egomaniac and or a lot of balls to participate in melfest and count on winning just on the basis of your reputation, that would be to risk a flop in my opinion at least. The song (whilst not my taste exactly) is of quality, the scenography is interesting and unique and lastly she's just a damn good singer. That's mostly why she won I feel like. With the weight some people is giving her reputation it seems like she could have just stood on the stage in silence and won everything.

Having said all of that, I personally enjoy Finland's song and act more and I would be very happy if Käärijä wins. Although I think I would be equally thrilled to see Loreen win again just because of the spectacle, and also I think she's worth it just on the basis of what euphoria did for the development of Eurovision.

was thinking a thought... obviously first and foremost the rerecordings are a significant part of taylor's story and career and they're revistations to key times of her life and that's amazing and we could talk about that forever

but like do u ever stop and weep bc miss taylor swift is also inadvertently redefining albums and the corresponding chapters of our own lives as the fans!! like not 2 be a cupcake but this entire rerecording process has also been so cathartic for me personally, reflecting on younger eras of my own life and how i connect differently to the music now. songs and the connections i drew to them to people in my life then are not the same as the ones i get to draw now and that's just like !!!!!!!

thinking about how speak now has always been a Cringe album to me bc i associated those feelings and songs with a middle school version of myself i didn't ever feel nostalgic toward, but now i do and i'm so excited to revisit those associated feelings of nostalgia and wonder that speak now brings (and the subsequent reflective torture the vault tracks add!!)... thinking about 1989 was the polar opposite of what i wanted from her at that time of its release and i had a lot of disdain for it, but can revel in it as a conceptual masterpiece in hindsight, understanding its cohesion better now that i've gone through a similar experience myself and now more excited than ever to hear more from that era

and it goes further!!!!!! like honestly new fans who get to experience fearless tv releases (+ other early albums) or the first time and get to connect with these songs they hadn't given a chance!! when songs/albums got spoiled bc people from your past are associated with them, and you get to re-experience them now without those people, that's freeing!!! ik taylor has said before that we the fans redefine certain songs for her and that was always a touching thought and idk i know it's not the purpose in the rerecordings but i find it to be a very beautiful, mutually beneficial ripple effect that i'm happy to experience

Oh, man, I've been hoping someone asks me song questions! I'm a big nerd for music, lyrics, and symbolism. Rashad had two whole playlists that I need to clean up and consolidate: Speaker for the Dead (their personal and villainous playlist) and Four Knights Game (a playlist analyzing the trajectory of the relationships between Rashad, Wei, Ricardo, and their puppet Xiao).

I've already briefly mentioned Dangerous by Son Lux on my recap of Rashad's origins (though I'd be happy to expand upon it, if you're interested). So I'd like to pull what I feel is one of the most Rashad-esque song off of Four Knights Game: De Selby (Part 2) by Hozier.

The themes of running from your anxieties and wishing for nonexistance juxtaposed against the comfort of someone you love and trust, who sees you and might could understand you, and the sweet rending asunder as both sides pull you is such a peak Rashad story. Paired with that low bass and the longing croon of Hozier's voice feels tonally aesthetic to them.

🎁What is something they keep like: a souvenir, a keepsake, or a family heirloom; that means a lot to them? Why is it so important to them? (Wheel Says Mateo)

Mateo keeps a few things that remind him of his old life, but are not actually from before the Heartbreak Incident. Cheap snacks eaten in cornerstores with friends. An old console with couch co-op games that he can't play anymore, because there are no neighborhood teens from the little street he spent learning about humanity beyond the Farm.

He has a necklace that stayed in his locker as he went back to the Farm. It used to hold a crucifix that he tossed out when Ricardo gave it back to him. He kept the saint pendant, though, out of nostalgia and a caustic sense of humor. It's of San Judas Tadeo, patron saint of hope and impossible causes. Along the bottom it reads, ruega por nosotros.

But, mostly, what he's kept as a tie to the old woman who took him in from his first escape from the Farm is his name. She always told him he was a gift from God, so he took a name to reflect that.

Heya friend, I love the posts about songs that people have for PS! Personally, I listen to the entirety of the Tetris Effect soundtrack when reading (and rereading) the fic.

It also helps that the songs are meant to help you get into “the zone”—it’s an instant Proficiency Bonus in Comment Writing for me ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ

My top 5 songs from the album would be:

City Lights It's without a doubt is my sparks fly song. When we get our incredible lovely TyStar moments, this is the song that comes to mind. The build-up! The funk and the rhythm! And the way Tyrus and Astarion fit so well together, working in tandem and being each others’ home! 🥺😭

Boscage This is the essence of the Angst With Happy Ending tag for me. It’s all about freedom and loving life. (But who knows if these themes’ll apply to the end HAHAHA)

Connected (Yours Forever) So despite how the lyrics feel more Tyrus-y, I honestly associate the message more with Astarion. And on a smaller note, there are also some theories I have related to how Astarion’s scar connects (hah!) him to the other sacrificial spawn and what it means for Astarion to be the one to "sing" this to Tyrus :P (It's just Astarion Nat20 persuasion checking that nerd to live)

Here Is a more low-key pick, but I think it does a great job capturing the various small moments they must’ve had when they were feeling safe. Like in Tyrus’ Tiny Hut, or when they climbed into a single bed together in the dorms. And the way the song builds reminds me of how important these “insignificant” moments feel when you look back on them. To me, they add up into this giant wave of nostalgia; a great reminder of being loved.

Hometown I gotta say this one was hard to place at first. It’s very PS for me, but I couldn’t put into words why. In the end, I think it’s all about hope and remembering how love strengthens you and keeps you moving forward.  The lads have gone through a lot, but they have each other. And whenever the Horrors™ are unleashed upon them, they always find strength in their most beloved and return home, and I think the song resonates with me in that regard. :D

I totally agree that the connected song could be either Tyrus or Astarion's pov, there's a lot of back and forth on which one of them is comforting the other, so it just depends on what part of the story we're talking! Either way works 💙 and the Here song just has great vibes!!

thanks elle-p !!!!!!!!!! good luck with my character too ^_^)/ !! i feel like i totally don't talk about her (or tbh anyone outside of ryoji ...) as much as i should .. ! im gonna work to change that \o/ ! starting here :]c putting this one under a cut because it actually got suuuper long ^_^;; whoops !

favourite thing about them: she exists !!!!!!!!!!!! and she's so cool . she's like, devastatingly cool . both in her concept and just .. herself .... move over chad narukami losers !!!!!!!!!! especially in her exclusive links, her kindness and kick-ass-ness and depth comes out in full force and i love her so much for it. i know i'm a ryominahead, but i miss her everyday !!!!!!!!

least favourite thing about them: not her fault AT ALL . but aside from how underrepresented she is, i am still a firm believer that she should've received her own ryoji ... it's so sad, because i absolutely adore how they open up to each other, but i've talked to others before about how ryoji in her story as seemingly HER mirror just feels wrong, like he's transplanted from another place (which he literally is .. he's created in minato's image). i would've loved to see how her ryoji could've been more specifically shaped and changed by her quirks + her approach to her trauma

brOTP: junpei and hamuko is especially special to me ... more so than minato and junpei really . they bounce off of each other so well, + the extended/enhanced arc where junpei is kind of misogynistic to her alongside the leader jealousy and how that develops is so cool T_T

nOTP: her + junpei . .. maybe im a little hater but the GAME doesnt even let you do it lmao ...! it means a lot to me that they're best friends . other than that, i'd say she fits cutely with nearly everyone else just like minato does !

random headcanon: okay lets be real . am i stupid ? where does her mp3 player attach ? it just kind of hangs out in midair while minato obviously hangs it on a lanyard . i like to think she's a bit more crafty with it !!! clipping it onto the zipper of her uniform or her scarf or keeping it on a wristband etc ^_^

unpopular opinion: gwa ........... i should just own this i think, even if people disagree !! in my opinion ... femc is supplementary content. and that means you should not be playing her route as your first experience in persona 3. just like how i believe you shouldn't read the manga or watch the movies before playing the game. you need to play the male route first. the way she presents the game's themes through her character and modified story is designed to be in direct opposition and contract with minato's route, and enhances both routes to that effect and can totally change your experience when viewing your previous playthrough of the male route and your current route as her through the lens she teaches the player. in a sad sort of way, i am kind of happy reload hasn't enforced this idea that femc is just one of two ways to experience p3 . this isn't a character select .. she's more like a perfect ng+ to me .

I thought about replying to this on the post, but I’m gonna get personal, so I’m responding this way.

I’ve never had the opportunity to take care of a rat or a tiny furry friend, but I have raised butterflies. I even had the honor of being visited regularly by a wild songbird for a time.

I’ll be honest. Neither of those experiences stand out to me much now. In fact, I’d totally forgotten about the little songbird until I started writing this post.

And I absolutely adored that little bird. She was special to me. But once she stopped coming by, she faded from my memory after so many years.

One could argue that the experience didn’t leave a huge impression on me since those creatures weren’t sentient. My response to that is, “Fair enough. But I’m not done yet.”

Here’s the thing: I have what one might call chronic “looking forward syndrome.”

What I mean by that is, I’m naturally so fixated on the future that I have difficulty holding onto my past.

Feelings from my past attachments slip away from me easily. I didn’t really know what nostalgia felt like until a little over 3 years ago. My past barely feels real to me; for the most part, it’s merely an interesting story I heard/read once.

Old friends, items, and events fade into the background until there’s hardly any sentimental “substance” to them.

I try very hard to hold onto certain meaningful moments and feelings from my past. I have playlists for special people who’ve come and gone in hopes that I can hold onto something, but that often doesn’t work because when I keep listening to songs, previous associations disappear after a while.

It’s like my mind is always trying to wipe the slate clean. Sometimes, this is voluntary, but more often than not, it happens automatically.

This is one of the reasons why Chromedome is an interesting character to me. What he does to detach from his past often happens to me against my conscious will. Don’t get me wrong—I still treasure memories I have of people and events. It’s just that I feel oddly detached from those memories—like they’re just an interesting book I read and put away on a shelf.

There are one or two individuals from my past whom I can say I miss in a significant way—people I long to connect with again. But they are the exception.

I feel the pain of loss very deeply, but in most cases, I end up distanced from it, either voluntarily or involuntarily.

The reason I share all of this is to make a point: Not everyone is naturally able to hold onto their past. And after reading reply after reply on that lifespan post, I realize that, because of how I personally struggle with detachment from my past, there is a unique type of horror I feel when I consider the massive lifespan gap.

Of course a being that lives for a short time can change someone’s life in unspeakable ways and become part of them in a special way. But that’s only if they can manage to stay connected to the past in some way.

For me, if I were Cybertronian, I fear my human friends would end up as mere blips on the timeline of my life. I’d still have the memories, but the feelings of connection to those past relationships would be in constant danger of fading to nothing.

I guess I’d put it like this:

We all have graveyards. A lot of people build magnificent memorials and revisit regularly. Some even go so far as to lock themselves inside the gates for reasons ranging from comfort to guilt.

But me? I’m not so good at building memorials to lost things. I’m better at building cities and planting gardens over my graveyards until they’ve nearly disappeared.

I leave anyone who’s read all of this with what is, in my opinion, one of the most heartbreaking tags on the lifespan post:
