Yeah I totally agree as to how writers are leaving. I agree. Why are they leaving you think?

okay, listen. i have thoughts. i have observations. and i’m going to share some of them with you.

in my experience, most writers have been leaving for one of these three reasons:

1. engagement (rather, the lack thereof)

yeah, yeah i know, writers post about this a lot but here’s why: it’s true. readers on this site, for whatever reason, don’t interact with fics as much as they used to. even some fics that get a lot of likes may only have one or two comments, maybe a couple of reblogs with no feedback.

for what it’s worth, i’ve always felt that for the size of my blog (and how flipping long it takes me to post something) i get wonderful reader feedback and engagement. but i see so many writers struggling out in these tumblr streets, posting really great work that gets very little feedback and it’s discouraging for them. i get it.

i will also be transparent and say that as a writer who biases a “less popular member” it kills me when amazing stories about him (and other “less popular members”) just fall flat.

one of the best hobi stories i ever read had 20 notes when i found it by accident. twenty. it had been posted for some time. in my mind, that was a crime—that story was an absolute masterpiece and it had 20 notes (!). i sent it to every person i knew short of my mama because i was offended that people hadn’t recognized its brilliance. sadly, that writer left tumblr and took her masterpiece with her which brings me to my next point:

2. drama and writer-on-writer crime

phew y’all, there’s just so much of it. i don’t know what it is about tumblr that makes some people lose their absolute minds but they sure damned do. i’ve been here for a minute and i have seen it all.

writers mounting anonymous hate campaigns against one another (this happens a lot). writers mounting anonymous hate campaigns against people they pretended were friends (this one happens a lot a lot). writers sending themselves a boatload of hate anons to get sympathy and attention on the dash (this one happens a lot a lot a lot).

popular writers going out of their way to befriend up-and-coming writers only to then turn around and start nasty whisper campaigns about them when the up-and-coming writer’s blogs and stories eclipse their own in popularity.

insecurity is a hell of a drug.

there are some writers who get on here and they’re cool and they stay cool and they enjoy success and guess what? they’re cool about it.

and then there are the writers who get a few thousand followers and a bunch of notes and delude themselves into thinking they’re real-life celebrities. to those writers i would say: pick the fanciest restaurant in your city, call to make a reservation on a friday night and if they don’t have a slot make sure you let them know you’re really big on tumblr. let me know how that works out for you, okay?

it sounds stupid and it is stupid but this happens on this site all the time. what makes me sad is that it drives people away. they take their personalities and stories and contributions to this insane little space we have here with them, which sucks. the author of that amazing hobi fic? deactivated her account over tumblr drama.

so if you have a blog here and you are so wrapped up in jealousy and insecurity that you feel the need to harass someone off the site (including “friends”), log off and seek help.

3. life (adulting, sigh)

this is the boring one, but it still tracks. this community blew up when covid hit and we all had a lot more time to muse about what kim namjoon would look like in his underwear. but so many people had to get back to the grind after a while, and that meant less time for tumblr and for writing in general (wait is this entire one about me oops)

when i started tumblr i wasn’t working full time. then covid hit. so i had a long stretch where i could dedicate a lot of time to writing and posting. and YES i was still slow, so go ahead and throw that tomato lmao but STILL. it really does impact the number of stories going up and some people who joined during the pandemic just don’t have the time to go back to this like they had before.

so yeah, that’s what i’ve personally seen and experienced on this site. the good news is that for every nasty, insecure writer on this site there are dozens of great people telling great stories. i’m going to stick around for them and i hope you do, too 💕

Hey, in the future could you add a cut to some of your long posts? Some of them are super long and take up a ton of my dash! I’m not trying to be rude. Sorry if it comes off that way

Hey so sorry Anon! At the end of writing a long post I'm often so desperate to get it up and out of the way that I forget about this. I should add the ReadMore cut earlier.

If you're on desktop, tapping 'J' or 'K' on the keyboard will skip to the next post down or up, and then the length of the skipped post will not matter. But I think this probably isn't an option on the app.

Also, with regard to my last long post (sorry this is turning into a long post too! Oops) I read recently that the ReadMore cut actually brings you to the blog itself, and you read the rest of it off the original post.

This means that if the original blog gets deleted or deactivated for whatever reason, the rest of the post may not be accessible.

So in my twistylogic brain, I was thinking it would be good to wait for at least one reblog of the full post before adding a ReadMore, so that there would also be full versions of it floating about elsewhere, if ever the blog got deleted/deactivated. (And thus there would be an off-blog record of it I could access if ever the blog went down, instead of having to rewrite from scratch.) But of course I then forgot to add the ReadMore after the first reblog. 🤷‍♂️

Will keep this in mind for my future posts! 💖

I recognized the first gif you asked for by the look of it, it is from this gifset by @/heartnosekid. I know Ish linked a tumblr post that has reposted the original video with the proper source attached and linked correctly as his source for the gifs, but I wanted to make sure others didn't miss it if they intended to re-gif this video. Here is the original source of the video.

I also immediately recognized the second gif you asked for, it's from this gifset by @/talos-stims.

I checked the rest of your sources, I hope that's okay. I just like to be thorough when I do this for someone.

As for any indirect links you used as sources, the direct sources for those are listed below, if you wish to change them. I do this only because stimboard makers that aren't gif makers who regularly make gifs tend to delete, rename, or deactivate their accounts much more often than gif makers themselves, and when that happens, the source typically gets lost or at least much more difficult to find for the average stimboard maker, creating a broken link chain to the original undeleted source.

Gif 3, Gif 5 (original video), Gif 6, Gif 7 (original video seems to have possibly been deleted or relocated, gif source is good for others to use, however).

I have zero drafts now, fewish followers, and this is going to be my 385th post.

I am logging off of tumblr, for a good bit. I did think about deleting my account, but i have people on here that i care about and who care about me (also i remember when @doritosaftersex deactivated his account and i felt bad). So instead ill come back in maybe a few months or years, or maybe never depends on well lol if i actually kms. Although don't worry i really doubt i have the time or energy for that. Before i go though i lowkey realised that i haven't ever spoken about like the well other side of me. The parts that i don't tumblr about. So here's this post- an Introduction and a Good-Bye.

I hate everyone and everything, the first thing that i said to morphi and it also got me my nickname piki - which means m picky about everything.

i also love doing everything (fk m confusing). i dance, and love to cook, and i draw really well, and i can play the guitar, i learnt the violin nd the piano too a bit, i like debating a lot, and volunteering for things.

On the surface my life seems great, but then comes the well the stuff- i mean clearly it would take you a few scrolls across my blog to see how er bad it really gets but well-

i feel terribly lonely sometimes and also inferior to everyone around me.

my parents are not the greatest people out there. they both have done stuff that well i wont type it out here of course, but its bad.

the above thing dig this really deep pit of trust issues and well now i believe in tragedies more than hope ( morphi hates that but he'll get it once he knows)

i have tried to km, when i was younger. And if i had a penny for everytime i thought about killing myself elon musk and i would be homies.

i am really gorey, and i like horror movies and the gore and CNC and stuff.

i cant open up. too many expectations.

i get really low sometimes and i end up saying stuff or doing stuff and i don't particularly remember why or what i did, and so i poof (another thing morphi hates).

i hurt myself a lot which probably comes from point 6.

hey, just letting you know that the cat donation post you reblogged from cantsaynotosleep is a scam. You can check the blog kyra45 for more info as they've been tracking this scammer for a while now. or look up their previous, now-deactivated usernames: hologramconnosseurrs, sleiekkem, ohdelin, michelvv, michevvous, michevvouuz, michevkevv, michelaide, michelainne, seafallsv, bagsofgoldz, stereopillars, pillars-of-stereos, and the most recent one afaik is buffersforever. They send out asks with the exact same wording but with a different name and story about their cat, depending on whose cat donation post from FB they are currently stealing and using. (Last time their cat's name was "Canto", now they've changed it but the paypal account is still the same, since they were impersonating someone on facebook whose name was written in the vet documents that they stole. guess it's hard to make different paypal accounts every time they remake their scam.) Anyway, sorry if this ask gets sent multiple times. Will be going through the reblogs on their posts to get the word around as that seems the most effective way to deter this scammer so far. Please do report them to tumblr if you can or warn others about them.

Funny how these pr blogs keep deactivating or oops “deleting” their blogs just to start a new one. Someone probably got doxxed and had to make a new page, then again they could be tracking people now with the new blog. Crazy is crazy.

You know there are four or five steps in deleting a blog. Tumblr asks you for your password too. No one does it accidentally.

seeing some of my arcanetwt friends confused by tumblr so here are 10 tips, hopefully i can explain them in a succinct way that is specifically relevant for you all!

follow blogs and tags to see posts! eventually tumblr will accurately recommend things you like and show them on your for you page/"try these posts" on the explore page but i usually just scroll my dash.

you can sort your dash by most recent or recommended, but unlike twitter you aren't going to see other people's likes or replies on your dash, just posts and reblogs.

people love getting asks! (as long as they're nice!) asks are basically built in curiouscat. you can turn anon off if you want or turn asks off altogether but they can be a good way to spark a conversation/discussion.

people treat tags kinda like qrts! most people will throw their personal opinions about a post in the tags, because unlike hashtags you can use spaces and some punctuation. i rarely put my thoughts in a reblog unless i feel like it adds to the content of the post in some way/continues the discussion. basically if you just want to share your opinions put them in the tags but if you definitely want ppl to see what you're saying put them in a rb (either way people can look through the notes to read all the tags too)

on that topic, once your post has been reblogged it CANNOT BE DELETED! you can delete the original post off your blog but any rb is essentially a copy. it's not gonna disappear like on twitter. you can edit your posts on tumblr, but rbs that happened before the edit will not change. (this is why you'll sometimes see a deactivated blog's addition in the reblogs of a post)

you can private your likes and following list! honestly i recommend doing this, i think a lot of unnecessary twitter drama comes from those features being public but on tumblr no one knows how many followers you have but you and you don't have to share who you follow either. (keep in mind that privating your likes only hides the likes page from your blog, it doesn't hide your like in the notes of a post)

tumblr's tagging system is actually pretty great (whenever the search function decides to work lmao), you can tag a post by #gif, #art, #video, etc. so you can search your blog for it later. unlike twitter tumblr is shit when it comes to searching specific phrases, like it just refuses to work and i have no idea why, so i recommend this!

while tags technically do show up like hashtags in site wide searches, people very commonly come up with tagging systems just for their blog, like ways to reference posts to find them later, this is not really how people use tags on twt but it's common and useful here.

you can queue posts! if you don't want to spam you can schedule a post to be sent out at a certain time, or just leave your queue to post them in intervals throughout the day. people usually come up with a personal tag for their queue (often a pun where the word "queue" is replacing something) so their followers know they aren't actually active and the post was scheduled.

finally, and oops this ended up being long, tumblr posts have a ton of formatting features that make them a lot more like blog posts, feel free to play around! for the people who are really into blog design you can also actually edit the html of your blog's desktop site and fully code the page how you want (or just pick a premade theme)

Hmm, well, I'll be honest, I haven't really had that many shippy threads. I don't know what it is, perhaps my "problem" of needing a longer thing leading to ships usually, or perhaps I'm not writing good enough or perhaps it's because I'm not doing nsfw that shipping doesn't really happen, but yeah, I haven't really had that many threads in the regards yet. I just realized, though, I might simply not quite know what counts as shippy thread and what doesn't? Huh. Now I'm thinking.

Okay, well, for all that I'm gonna mention I could now say 'but I don't think we did any specifically shippy thread so far', so I'm just saying this before and now only just mentioning ships.

I do like the ship that I have currently on Blackfire with Vergil (@darksonofsparda, link to my tag of that url here in case you wanna read up some) a lot, they're very evil cool together and I love them. I'm still thinking about making a tag for them, though I haven't done shippy (nor person-specific) tags before, so I will need to ponder that for a while more.

Then, one of the ships I probably love most of anything I did around my blogs, is Wildfire's things with Hay Lin (@aerokinesiiss, here's a link for the tag again for reading up if you want to). They're just very adorable together, I love writing Ry with Hay Lin, and I just feel like I got so lucky having this chance even rather early-on in my writing for him on here!

RobStar is of course my all time favourite ship and will probably stay that as well, and I'm sure I had some nice threads throughout my years there too, but outside of that one plot that I really wanna write out sometime - which I still assume is kinda 'cursed' though bc whenever I suggest it to someone and we start writing it, they kinda stop being active for various reasons (I'm mostly joking, I know a storyline can't really be the reason for that when it's personal reasons or whatever that makes ppl stop being active) - I don't think there's any thread per se. The first Robin RPer that comes to mind that I did some things with is one who I can't tag anymore bc deactivated, formerwonder, read up on the little bit of stuff we did here. It wasn't that much stuff we did, but I very fondly remember our things.

While I'm at Star, me and @merveiilles also more or less recently (? I think it's been more than a year already, idk why I feel like I should still call that 'recently' oops) started to consider her and Aqualad a ship, which I love a lot too! They had a date-thread sorta before though we didn't actually get to writing the date iirc, and a bunch of very cute asks, but there's nothing I can really link you I think - unless you wanna skim through like all the things we're doing together with is way more than only with Aqualad though.

I'm also doing some really nice things with @featherchan - as Robin and Starfire before too, then we also are somewhat considering Silverwing (an OC of featherchan's) and both Moonshot and Wildfire as potential ships! They're both still in the works though, which I feel like is my fault bc I need long to write a ship well I think or maybe to even feel the ship in the first place or sth idk, but, yes, definitely something else to take note of! To link you one thing for if you wanna read up stuff here too, I'll link you an AU we're playing in, here's the link. It's a fascinating AU in itself, and having the chance to write it with someone and hopefully eventually develop a ship within it too, I really like that. There's more things we did, though, but I don't wanna link you a general tag with too much to look through, so you'd have to check for the url-tag yourself to know more, both on Ry and on Moonshot.

Me and @wafflesandbuttkicking do have plans for Steph and Moonshot, which I love a lot, enough actually to have prompted me to do a drawing for the thread we have (that's still in the beginning though) before, which is very rare! I'm not all too happy with my drawing, but it still means that I clearly absolutely adore the dynamic and later-on-hopefully-ship, and I'm looking very forward to keeping that going. Here's a link to what we have so far, though it isn't that much yet.

Also, honorable mention to the things I wrote out between my Star and my OC Moonshot before - I have a bunch of things (Two things where he's slipped into his evil verse because of his obsession/crush/love for Star here and here, a thing that I wrote for his birthday here, two scenes of him finding her on Earth here and here, and last a drabble of them actually getting together here).

There's probably some more stuff I could add, but honestly, I feel like most of it is still a work in progress and not really having 'shippy threads' yet - or like said, I might simply not know how to count one as it. (Also, I wrote these down as I thought of them, in no way is this a sorting of favouring or the likes.)

Heads up, pumpkinhalloween is a scammer. they're mass sending messages that is worded identically to other previous cat donation scam posts on here. You can try pasting their ask on the search tab to see other similar asks from deactivated blogs. Look up recently deactivated urls: heyits-monday, closed-on-tuesdays, aimsohigh, closedforseptember and those are just the ones they've burnt through in the past couple of days. This is a very stubborn scammer that others have been trying to run off of this site for months now, so if you can, please report them to tumblr and tell others that you know who have reblogged their post.
