Hey! I was thinking about Narewen/Bain (I think that was a what you said in your tags). Could you expand? I’m curious
Oh Yeah no problem! So the idea just came out of the other idea where the Arkenstone really is a Silmaril (like it ought to be come on Prof.)
So Narewen's timeline there would have been:
Stuck in stone form for however long magical plate tectonics took to move her from that fiery chasm to where the dwarves of Erebor discovered the Arkenstone
Feeling that she's finally around friendly folk she would have woken up, much to the amazement of the dwarves,( who probably take her as some sort of blessing from Mahal. I mean with the circumstances I would)
She's raised amoung them for a while, learning smithing and craft until
Smaug comes
At which point she definitly goes back into jewel form and stays that way until Bilbo Baggins takes her out to trade for peace, resulting in a very confused Hobbit, an extremely concerned Thranduil (because he's heard about what happens when Silmarils are up for grabs) and a Gandalf with a very important report to make to the Valar
Meanwhile all Bard sees is a frightened/angry young girl around his sons age, and so he probably introduced them while she was staying in the elven camp so she wouldn t be so lonely/worried
She probably does go back to stay with the dwarves after to help them rebuild, but keeps in touch with Bain and Bard and it just blossoms naturally from there
(It really wasn't much of a concrete idea, except that Bard's kids was were some of the only stuff I'd really liked in the last two Hobbit movies, and since Narewen's sort of in a Snow White situation Bain was the nearest prince in proximity and age, and I thought they'd be cute together 😅)

TOP 12 FAVORITE IAN HOLM ROLES
@superkingofpriderock @amalthea9 @ohiwannatakeyouhome
DAVID PETERS (MOONLIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY, 1969)
Tumblr media
A troubled young man, David Peters (Ian Holm), claims, "Once dreams were possible, that's what the popular songs told us." Rejecting rock music of the day, Peters is immersed in the tunes of Thirties crooner Al Bowlly (killed during the London blitz). He collects Bowlly memorabilia, publishes the Bowlly fan-club newsletter, and finds pleasure in lip-synching Bowlly records but his obsession with Bowlly masks certain darker events in his past.
DOCTOR ASTROV (UNCLE VANYA, 1991)
Tumblr media
In this televised production of Anton Chekhov’s play, Sir Ian Holm plays a village medic who, at the start, is an idealist with great passion for the preservation of trees. But, as time passes, everyone ignores what he says and he falls in love with a married woman, the character of Doctor Astrov slowly grows more and more tired and disappointed with himself, the world and humanity, fallin in alcoholism.
POD CLOCK (THE BORROWERS AND RETURN OF THE BORROWERS, 1992-93)
Tumblr media
I dare say that, despite being 61 years old at the time, this is the role in wich i felt Sir Ian Holm performed the most of phisical acting. Pod Clock is the patriarch of a family of people that are the size of little fingers, and to raise his family, he has to ride sinks, run away from cats and big birds and be carefull of mouse traps to borrow food and other needs. All the while trying to avoid being seen by humans. That’s what i call an action hero.
ASH (ALIEN, 1979)
Tumblr media
The amoral android that made him a movie star. Do i need to say more?
CAPTAIN FLUELLEN (HENRY V, 1989)
Tumblr media
In this Kenneth Branagh adaptation of the William Shakespeare historical play, we see Sir Ian Holm performance as Captain Fluellen, a man that is a geek of military tactics history as he is proud of being welsh. Fluellen has a fun energy that makes him likable, at the same time that he is intimidating in his ruthleness in support a cruel execution in the name of military discipline.
VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN/THE CREATURE (MISTERY AND IMAGINATION: FRANKENSTEIN, 1968)
Tumblr media
Before Benedict Cumberbatch in theater, there was Sir Ian Holm portraying both Doctor Victor Frankenstein and his Creature in this televised 1968 adaptation of Mary Shelley’s famous gothic sci-fi novel. His portrayal of the two characters is one of the most closest to the book characterization’s to this day: Victor Frankenstein as an ambitious and self-absorved student, and the Creature as a person who tries to be good, but due to abandonment and discrimination suffered due to his phisical appearance, becomes corrupted with an obsession for revenge against his creator. And Sir Ian puts those foil personalities marvellously.
LENNY (THE HOMECOMING, 1973)
Tumblr media
The Homecoming is a 1973 British-American drama film directed by Peter Hall based on the play of the same name by Harold Pinter.
In a dreary North London flat, the site of perpetual psychological warfare, a philosophy professor , Teddy, visits his family after a nine-year absence, and introduces his father, Max, his uncle, Sam, and two brothers, Lenny and Joey, to his wife Ruth.
Sir Ian Holm plays Lenny, a pimp who only makes discreet references to his "occupation" and his clientele and flats in the city (London). He is the character with the most cynical lines and who start the sexual tension between the man of the family with Ruth, not carrying at all if she is married to his brother Teddy.
There’s a character that anyone will love to hate.
PHILLIPE D'ARNOT (GREYSTOKE: THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, LORD OF THE APES, 1984)
Tumblr media
A Belgian explorer who discovered Tarzan (John Clayton) in the jungle, taught him the way of man, and brought him to his family in England. Is Phillipe’s friendship with Tarzan and their eventual departure that becomes the emotional core of the picture.
LEWIS CARROLL (DREAMCHILD, 1985)
Tumblr media
“Dreamchild” is a film written by screenwriter and playwright Dennis Potter. It was actually effectively a remake of an earlier project of his: the 1960s TV Play “Alice,” which had starred George Baker as Charles Dodgson, a.k.a Lewis Carroll – the man behind the “Alice” stories. But while “Alice” had been focused on Dodgson himself and his experiences with Alice Liddell (the little girl who inspired him to write the stories) and her family, “Dreamchild” takes a different approach. The 1985 film focuses instead on an elderly Alice Hargreaves (nee Liddell), who visits America to celebrate Dodgson’s centenary. During her stay, she has various nightmares, flashbacks, and hallucinations. Some of these have her seeing characters from the books, such as the Mock Turtle, the Mad Hatter, and the Caterpillar. Others are reflections on her childhood and the time she knew Lewis Carroll. Holm plays Carroll in these sequences, and the film plays with several myths and rumors about his relationship with Alice and her family…but it does so in a very clever way. Unlike the earlier TV play, which seems to treat these rumors and myths as fact, “Dreamchild” is far more ambiguous: nothing is confirmed or denied. It’s simply presented, and the audience is left to decide what is true, what is false, and how much it all really matters in the end. Holm brilliantly handles this ambiguity: in another actor’s hands, the character could have been perceived as thoroughly unsavory, but there’s such a gentleness, kindness, and overall innocence to Holm’s work that you can never really feel frightened or bothered. You feel for the man, no matter his flaws, and it makes his story just as compelling as Alice’s own.
RICHARD III (THE WARS OF THE ROSES, 1965)
Tumblr media
The Wars of the Roses was a 1963 theatrical adaptation of William Shakespeare's first historical tetralogy (1 Henry VI, 2 Henry VI, 3 Henry VI and Richard III), which deals with the conflict between the House of Lancaster and the House of York over the throne of England, a conflict known as the Wars of the Roses. The plays were adapted by John Barton, and directed by Barton himself and Peter Hall at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The plays were adapted by John Barton, and directed by Barton himself and Peter Hall at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The production starred David Warner as Henry VI, Peggy Ashcroft as Margaret of Anjou, Donald Sinden as the Duke of York, Paul Hardwick as the Duke of Gloucester, Janet Suzman as Joan la Pucelle, Brewster Mason as the Earl of Warwick, Roy Dotrice as Edward IV, Susan Engel as Queen Elizabeth and Ian Holm as Richard III.The plays were heavily politicised, with Barton and Hall allowing numerous contemporaneous events of the early 1960s to inform their adaptation. The production was a huge critical and commercial success, and is generally regarded as revitalizing the reputation of the Henry VI plays in the modern theatre. Many critics feel The Wars of the Roses set a standard for future productions of the tetralogy which has yet to be surpassed. In 1965, the BBC adapted the plays for television. The broadcast was so successful that they were shown again, in a differently edited form, in 1966.
In this production, the major theme is how the dispute for the crown of king is an endless cycle of violence that traps people, and this theme is highlighted in Sir Ian Holm’s performance as Richard III. His portrayal is more humanized and tragic, showing he was first a loving son and brother, until the vision of his father’s death in battle and the mistakes that his older brother, Edward IV,  makes at the start of his reign, motivates him to become king, no mather if it is even at the cost of his relatives lifes. At first, Richard looks like he is in control of the situation, but later, as the final battle comes close, frightened by the ghost of the people he killed, he has to confront the harsh truth: Richard is only another pawn in the game of chest of a bloody History. Just like every other king that camed before him.
PUCK (A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, 1968)
Tumblr media
Sir Ian Holm played the character of Puck, a.k.a Robin Goodfellow, in a 1968 feature film adaptation of the play. The feature was poorly received at the time, but has gained a bit more of a following in recent years, particularly from avid Shakespeareans. Its chiefest pro is probably the casting of Holm in the role of Puck:  he’s quick-witted, curious, and just a little baudy, but with a sharp and slightly dangerous intensity to him. You’re never quite sure what to make of Puck, and that makes him interesting, as he leaps from scene to scene, spreading chaos everywhere he turns.
FRODO AND BILBO BAGGINS (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, 1981 AND 2001-03)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most famous nephew and uncle in literature. He played the nephew in the radio in 1981, and the uncle in the feature films between 2001-03.
A lot of people were introduced to Sir Ian Holm’s work and becamed Lord of the Rings after being introduced to those performances.
In both roles, he was merry, he was funny, he was frightened, he was scary, he was brave and determined, he was sad. And all of us, listeners and viewers, related to those feelings transmited by his performances as Frodo and Bilbo.
Everyone has talked a lot about those performances, and everyone will probably will still be talking about them in the future.

Clara Took (the beginnings)
This is my OC series that I have had fun building in my mind for the past year and a half, and have finally had time to put it down on paper. I really like it, and maybe some other people will too, so why not share it
Clara Took was indeed a very odd young girl, as one might expect of a half-breed. Her mother, Mirabella Took, had gone and fallen in love with a dwarf, and had a bastard child with him. He left before Clara was born, and Mirabella died giving birth (One could hardly expect a hobbit to give birth to a half-breed without practically bursting with the effort). Hobbits, even the adventurous Tooks, were not fond of anything deemed ‘unnatural’ or ‘questionable’, so young Clara was not treated with much kindness in her youth, and it was decreed that when she became of age, she would no longer be welcomed in Tuckburough.
Now Clara, being a half-breed, aged quite differently than the typical hobbit. For when she was 32, she would seem to be only a child of eight or nine years (in human terms).  She still slept with her toy animals.
Perhaps the only Took who had the sensible mind to figure out that a young girl like Clara could not take care of herself was Belladonna Took. If not for having a family of her own, Belladonna would have taken Clara to Bag-end to live with her (though her husband would surely object). But, seeing that was impossible, the year leading up to Clara’s thirty-third birthday was tiring for the post-hobbits and messengers, with Belladonna sending out letters to every village or land west of the Misty Mountains in search of Clara’s father.
Finally, in early autumn, Belladonna received a message saying her father would come to collect her. And this is where the story truly begins.
Clara hid behind her Aunt’s skirts, for once being shy of words.
“What’s your name Lassie?” The towering dwarf asked in a gruff voice. He looked rather frightening, with a tall mohawk and two axes strapped to his back.
“Clara.”
“Thats a good name lassie. Clara. You may call me Adad. Or Dwalin if ye’d prefer.”
The way he spoke was strange to her. The accent, she supposed. It reminded her a bit of the Brandybuck cousins. When she didn’t reply, Dwalin sighed.
“I’ll be taking you to the Blue Mountains. It’s a two week journey, give or take. I trust you’re packed?”
“I think I fit everything in this bag.” Belladonna replied, handing Dwalin a large backpack that was much too big for Clara to drag around. He took it with a grunt and hitched it up to a pony a few feet away from him.
“Did you pack lambie?” Clara asked, tugging on Belladonna’s skirt. She frowned.
“I couldn’t find lambie, dearie.”
“Bilbo took her.” Clara said with certainty, dashing back into the hobbit-hole. Sure enough, Bilbo had the toy tucked safely in the front pocket of his overalls.
“Bilbo, give lambie back!”
“No! Mine.”
“I need her! I’m leaving!”
“Go?”
“Yeah, I’m going.”
“Go where?’’
“To the mountains!’’
“What?
“With my da. A dwarf.”
“Dwarf?” Bilbo put extra emphasis on the ‘f’.
“Yeah.”
“When you come back?”
“Never. I need lambie.”
Bilbo stumbled back on chubby little legs.
“N-Never come back?”
“Never.”
Bilbo dashed towards the door, his cheeks bouncing with each step. Clara followed.
“Mama!” Bilbo called, racing towards Belladonna.
“Oh good, you have lambie. Clara is going to need lambie back now.”
“Clara goes?”
“Yes, Clara has to go.”
“Never come back?”
“I don’t think so, Bilbo.”
His little lip began trembling.
“Don’t want Clara go.”
“She has too,” Belladonna said, scooping Bilbo up and taking lambie away before giving the toy to Clara.
Bilbo started bawling. As Belladonna tried to sooth him, Dwalin asked Clara a question.
“Are you all set?”
“I guess so.”
“How ‘bout you say your goodbyes then.”
Aunt Bella made Clara promise to write. Clara told Bilbo he could have all her other toys, so he wouldn’t be sad. Bilbo cried anyway. Dwalin lifted Clara up to the ponies saddle before getting on behind her. The little dwobbit waved one last goodbye before Dwalin kicked the pony and set off down the winding paths of Hobbiton and beyond.

Journey to Middle Earth - Chapter 14
Tumblr media
Summary – What if JRR Tolkien never gave Thorin a love story… because the person that was meant to be Thorin’s was not yet born when he wrote the Hobbit? Sara journeys from her world to Middle Earth after an accident, with a mission. To change something about the Hobbit story… but she is not sure what. What she does not know is that while trying to prevent something from happening, something new might arise between her and the dwarf prince….even if it is not on the agenda!
Warnings – None, no explicit scenes, some kissing, violence, frightening creatures, mentions of abuse.
Pairings – Thorin Oakenshield x OC
Sara knew that if she explained the danger Thorin was in, she would get some reactions. While most of the company carried on like normal but did make an effort to keep an eye on Thorin, Bilbo went so far as to try and wiggle the details out of Sara and once or twice, she almost did. They would be talking about something completely unrelated and Bilbo was throw in a question asking who Thorin was in danger of and Sara would almost answer him if she didn’t have such quick reactions.
She had only told them that in the previous timeline, Thorin was in danger. She didn’t specifically mention when, where or by whom and didn’t tell them that Fili and Kili were involved in the matter. Not on did she notice a change in the dwarves because of this information, but they also treated her differently. They always made sure that she never got the night watch shifts and Nori, Ori and Dori had even helped her clean Thorin’s chamber so she could sleep in a well-lit, clean bedroom.
Because Oin was not with them, Balin took it upon himself to monitor what foods and smells Sara encountered to eliminate the girl’s feelings of nausea and vomiting. Bombur always reserved extra servings of food for Sara and Dwalin always ensured that Thorin and Sara were at least six feet apart. (Social distancing pun intended;))
Sara appreciated their help and the thoughtfulness but she began to worry that Thorin would notice the change and begin to suspect why Sara was getting special treatment.
Not only that, even though Sara tried to avoid an argument with Thorin for the sake of her very high emotions and for the baby’s wellbeing, she missed him dearly and with the doubling of her “guard”, she never got a moment alone with him.
In that case, she decided to go against Dwalin’s advice of plenty of sleep in the safely locked royal chamber and snuck out to locate the dwarf prince.
This proved simple since everyone who wasn’t Thorin or the one on guard were in an ale stupor. Slipping into the treasure room, Sara found Thorin pouring over a table of teeny tiny white, pink and blue gems.
“Thorin?” she whispered softly in the hopes of not surprising him.
The dwarf spun around even though her voice had been soft, and his face lit up, “Givashel! I thought you were asleep,”
Sara almost saw a glimpse of the old Thorin then but then she realized that he didn’t call her by her name…. but by “my treasure”…
“I couldn’t sleep and I thought…” she started.
Before she could invite him to rest, Thorin had jumped up and grabbed something from the table and held it out to her with a huge smile.
“This will make you happy.” He said, holding out the most beautiful ring Sara had ever seen with a pale pink gem in the center of the golden band, “It is better than that trash I made you in the mountain village.”
Sara bit her lip. She had grown fond of the solid gold band that Thorin had fashioned for her on the day of their marriage. It was simple but made of love…
“It is beautiful Thorin,” she said, noticing how sunken in his eyes and cheeks were from lack of sleep.
When she made no move to take it, Thorin’s smile faded into a frown, “You do not like it!?”
“No, I love it…” Sara assured him, taking the ring from his waiting hands and slipping it onto her ring finger, right above her original wedding ring. “I just… I am worried about you! You never eat or sleep. You’re gonna kill yourself at this rate!”
“I do not need to be babied!” Thorin growled.
“I am not babying you! I am caring about you! I am your wife and it is by duty!” Sara snapped.
Thorin grabbed her wrists and pinned her against the wall, “And that is the only reason?”
Sara felt her heart drop. Was that why he was snappy with her? Because he thought she only did things because they were married? The girl gently reached up and touched his pale cheek, feeling tears prick her eyes at the pain in his orbs.
“No, because whenever I see you sad or in pain, I breaks my heart,” She whispered.
His eyes shining with tears, Thorin dipped down slowly and brushed his lips over hers before pausing as if testing the waters.
“I love you,” Sara murmured.
That was the only invitation Thorin needed before he caught her lips in a full kiss.
Sara half expected it to be heated with hunger and anger and was surprised when she felt his body tremble from emotion, his lips caressing hers gently and full of love. When Sara looped her arms around his neck, Thorin took the invitation and scooped her into his arms. Not breaking the kiss, he took her to their bed chamber.
When Sara woke to the birds chirping, she no longer felt the warm and secure arms that had embraced her all night, nor the gentle breathing noises and the soft lips that had fallen asleep pressed to her forehead. The girl sighed, burying her face in the plush pillow to muffle the whimpers and sobs that ripped from her throat as her heart shattered. She was jolted from her misery by a loud echoing voice that called out.
“Hello!? Bombur…. Bifur…. Anyone!”
The girl was up in an instant, clothing her naked form before pouring warm water on her face in the hopes of easing her red, puffy eyes.
When she burst from her room, she almost tripped over Mason who had come in search of his master. She stumbled into the dining room just in time to find Oin, Bofur, Fili and Kili happily embracing their fellow dwarves. Oin was the first to notice Sara and his eyes widened at the sight of the flushed, slightly more round than he remembered, snuggling into a sweater young girl.
“Mahal…”
All eyes turned to Sara and the girl was engulfed by Fili and Kili who began chattering her ear off.
“You’re alright!” Kili screeched.
“Axel and Omar send their best,” Fili assured her.
As the two brothers ranted, Oin pushed through and touched Sara’s abdomen, examining her and the girl was happy that he chose to not mention the puffy red eyes that she had managed to disguise from everyone but Oin who never missed a thing.
“Lass, you are with Bairns!” he whispered.
Sara’s eyes widened, “Bairns…. As in multiple!?”
Oin nodded with a huge smile, “With your size and how much you are already showing, there is no way it could be two… lass, I think you might be carrying three!”
********
“Twins!?” Dwalin whisper-yelled, “Oin, perhaps half of your brain got roasted by dragon fire.”
Oin shook his head, never taking his eyes off the petite red head who’s eyes shone with joy and love but her face sheet white with worry and fear.
“The lass has already begun to show. She is barely a week and already she has the motherly glow and her symptoms are kicking in. This does not usually happen till the fourth or fifth week.”
“We thought that because the Bairn is part human, part dwarf that it would explain the early symptoms,” Balin intervened.
Oin nodded, “That is so, that would explain the symptoms but Sara is already bumping which can only be explained by the number of bairns she carries.”
Sara glanced down at her abdomen and smoothed the sweater she wore, only to realize that Oin was right. Sara had never been one to worry about her weight and she had not realized that her loose pants and sweater hid the barely noticeable bump. She looked at Oin, her face shining with worry.
“How long do you think the pregnancy will be?”
Oin pursed his lips in thought, “At the most…. Four to five months.”
“And the earliest?” Balin asked, interrupting Dwalin who had been about to ask the same question, leaving him with his mouth open.
“Considering the facts…” Oin mumbled, “One to two months.”
Sara’s eyes bulged, “So as far as we know, I could be about a fifth or fourth through my pregnancy?”
Oin nodded, “Aye. Your appetite will continue to grow and you will begin craving strange foods.”
Sara did not really worry about that for she knew it would come but her mind was buzzing. Azog would be attacking Erabor and Dale in the next two days… she needed to leave the mountain and come up with a plan. Not only that, she needed to ensure that her brothers would be safe during the battle.
“I’m gonna be a cousin!” Kili hooted.
Fili was about to join in with the celebration when Dwalin whacked them over the head to shut them up just as the door opened and in strode Thorin.
“Everyone to the gate, now!” he growled.
As the prince began to leave, the company looked to Sara, only to realize from the look in her eyes that it was the Laketown people arriving. Sara hurried over to Thorin and grasped his forearm. The dwarf looked at her with no expression in his pale blue eyes.
“You stay here. We need to take care of this.”
Sara nodded, not bothering to object, “I will see you later Thorin.”
With that, she stood on tiptoe and planted a loving kiss on his lips. Thorin did not react but Sara knew that the dwarves were staring with worried looks on their faces, knowing that her words were not really “see you later” but “goodbye for now”.
The girl looked at the dwarves and smiled gently at them before exiting the room. She hurried down the corridors to her chamber and she dove in, locking the door behind her. She needed to move quickly. Thorin would begin to rebuild the gate and she didn’t want him to realize her absence. Grabbing her bag, she loaded her knife, notebook, gun and a few pairs of clothes in before strapping her bow and swords to her back. She turned to Mason and softly told him to follow her only to open the door and find a small pouch on the floor outside with a note attached to it.
Sara, be safe. Use the hidden door to leave and give my best to Ryder, Omar and Axel. We will miss you until we meet again. Bombur insisted that you take the food in the pouch. It will last you a few days. Dwalin also put in a bag of explosive dust. He said that it might help you with your plan. Keep safe my queen. – Balin.
Sara smile and hastily placed the pouch in her began before rushing down the corridors to where the hidden door was. She halted as she passed the treasure room. No point in leaving a note in the bedroom since Thorin never went there. She reached to her pocket and drew out the letter she had written Thorin before pinning it to the door of the treasure room. Takin gone last look over her shoulder, she slipped up the staircase, through the hidden door and into the fresh air. She looked down at Mason who stood by her side like a sentry. She then reached down and rubbed her stomach before feeling tears prick her eyes.
“Don’t worry babies. We will see your daddy again… and he will be alive. I promise you.”
Shifting her bag and weapons, she began the slow climb down the stairs with mason following closely behind. They had just reached the bottom when Sara froze and touched the stone that made up a good amount of the surrounding rock.
“Magnesium…” She whispered.
Her mind raced back to the time when Axel practically forced her to watch ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ staring Josh Hutcherson for school. Sara’s face lit into a huge smile and she turned to Mason.
“I’ve got an idea,” she whispered, “Good thing Dwalin gave me extra explosives.”
About six hours later when Thorin made his way back to the treasure room after leaving the rest of the company to continue stacking stone, he was confused to find a small piece of paper tied to the door. Thinking perhaps it was another letter from Sara asking him to get some rest and eat, he made to tear it off and crumble it when he noticed two words that made him freeze.
I’m sorry.
He quickly unraveled the crumpled letter and scanned the letter hastily before reading it a second time, very slowly this time:
Dear Thorin,
I’m sorry that I am telling you this in a letter instead of in person, but I know that if I tried to explain the situation to you in person, you would not let me leave. I am leaving to go to Dale for a while. I need to check on my brothers and ensure that they are safe and well. I promise, I am not leaving you nor betraying you, but this is something I have to do to ensure that nothing terrible happens to anyone. Please trust me and know that I love you more than you can even imagine. Be strong Thorin and fight this sickness that has changed you. Remember, I will love you no matter what, but you have to fight this.
I love you with my whole heart.
Your wife, Sara
Thorin hadn’t realized it but by the time he had read the letter a fourth time, a single tear had escaped his eye and he stood there frozen, not believing what had just happened…. But his pain and misery was soon ended when he heard the company talking and he returned to his serious self, storming into the treasure room, leaving the letter abandoned on the floor.
*******
When Sara and Mason slipped through the back entrance of Dale, she was glad to find that almost all the inhabitants were at the front gates, welcoming Thranduil, his army of elves and his carts of food. However, the joy at having an easy entrance was clouded by fear. She only had till morning to get a plan under way. She did not have to look far before she rounded a corner and smacked into a hard chest, spluttering an apology.
“Sara?” A familiar, deep voice rumbled.
Sara lifted her eyes and a huge grin split across her face when she recognized the tall, bear like figure of Zain.
“You’re okay!” Sara squealed, throwing her arms around the big man’s abdomen. When she pulled away, she noticed a silver bracelet on his thick wrist and her eyes widened. Grace had told her that human custom was instead of beads, two betrothal silver bracelets were used to signify the members of an engagement or betrothal.
“And engaged!” Sara chirped with joy at the blush on Zain’s smiling face as he tried to hide behind his curls.
The tall man smiled and nodded, “Aye, Rose is a special girl.”
Sara’s eyes widened further, “Rose!? As in the Rose from the mountain village!?”
Zain nodded and Sara breathed a sigh of relief, “She and Deke… are they okay? What about my brothers?”
Zain nodded, “Deke and Rose are well. They are with Grace and the kids. Axel, Omar and Ryder are over here…”
Sara joyfully followed Zain to a corner of the marketplace to find her brothers sitting with Deke, Rose and Grace’s family. Omar was the first to see her and leapt to his feet, running over to embrace his big sister. As Axel and Ryder came for their hugs, Omar went to pet Mason.
“What are you doing her!?” Axel whisper yelled, “Shouldn’t you be with our husband?”
Sara bit her lip, “Thorin is too far gone. I need to come up with a plan to save him, Fili and Kili before dawn when Thranduil attacks Erabor and Dain appears.”
Axel nodded, “Whatever you need help with, you can count me in.”
Sara beamed at her brother, “I noticed that there is Magnesium all over Erabor. I need to find out if there is any on Ravenhill.”
Axel cocked his head quizzically, “Who or what are you planning on blasting to smithereens?”
Sara smiled, “I have got a backup plan for Thorin but I need to find out if there is Magnesium where Fili is…. “Killed”. And also to find out how to get him out of there.”
“What about Kili?” her brother quizzed.
Sara shook her head, “That is a part of the plan that I haven’t figured out yet.”
“If only Mithril weren’t so scarce,” Omar muttered.
Axel nodded in agreement when suddenly Sara’s eyes widened and she spun Axel around to face her, “Axel… you took those snorkeling diving lessons right?”
Axel nodded, “Yeah… .why?”
Sara smirked, “I need you to go swimming for something.”
All three of her brothers tilted their heads in confusion. Sara just smiled, “Mithril is not the only thing that is impenetrable.”
When Axel gave her a look as if to say, ‘you are making no sense and I cannot understand a thing you are saying’, Sara smirked.
“What did Thorin say to Bilbo about mithril?”
Omar hummed in thought, “no blade can pierce it.” Sara smiled, “And what did Bilbo tell Frodo?”
“Ooh!” Ryder squealed, “I know! He said… ‘As light as a feather and as hard as dragon scales’!”
All at once, her brothers caught onto what she was getting at and smiled in excitement.
Sara beamed, “Now, while you and Omar re off doing that, I am taking a hike up to Ravenhill.”
The girl got to her feet and made to call Mason hen the whiff of rotting, burnt bones from the past Dale inhabitants reached her nose and she doubled over, puking into a nearby corner, away from the others.
Grace hastily poured a mug of water while her husband helped hold back Sara’s hair as she emptied her stomach onto the gravel. After she finished and washed her mouth with water, she turned to find Axel looking at her suspiciously while Omar and Ryder looked highly concerned. “Well do that,” Axel remarked, “Right after you tell us the whole story. What is going on!?”
“Azog and Bolg will be attacking tomorrow,” Sara pointed out, trying to avoid the question, “It would be best if Grace, Rose and the kids left for the mountain village.”
“Sara Renee,” Axel said sternly, “What was the ulterior motive you had for leaving Thorin and Erabor?”
Sara opened her mouth to escape the real answer but Axel gave her a warning look.
The girl sighed, “You might be expecting a niece or nephew soon and because every event in Middle Earth is against us, you might meet them sooner than expected.”
**********
Sara did a full 180 degree turn as she studied the ledge where Azog would stand as he killed Fili. She scanned until her eyes fell on a particularly smooth layer of rock, right where Fili would land after Azog dropped him. If Azog happened to drop Fili over the ledge when Sara set her plan in motion, she needed to make sure Fili wouldn’t die from the fall. Sara ran her hands over the smooth rock, partially covered by snow which hid it well. How did it not break under Fili’s weight? Sara tapped the rock around the match of Muscovite and found that it was a narrow section of the thin rock… with water underneath? From the sound of it, it was a good amount of water… possibly an underground reservoir that connected to the lake and waterfall that was frozen over. Sara pulled out her sketch book and began to do the math.
“If the section is this wide… with this distance between the rock and the water… and Fili’s weight didn’t break it…and this weight would be needed to break through the rock…Then Fili’s weight should be around this much… so I would need this additional weight…. Rocks will work as good additional weight… just add the extra weight to the rock and when Fili drops….just need to know wone thing… how do you ask a guy how much he weighs!?”
******
“Do you think it will be just like in the movie?” Omar whispered as the four children watched Bard stand at the huge gate of Erabor, negotiating through the peephole. The four kids were sitting in the tower of Dale, peering over the railing in the hopes of not being spotted by a particular grump dwarf king.
“Either that or Thorin will poke bard’s eye out with an arrow through the hole,” Axel mumbled.
Sara poked her brother in a gentle scolding manner. Axel smirked, “Oh, Omar and I got that shipment you requested.”
He held up a small sack and Sara beamed, taking it off his hands and tucking it under her arm. “When Grace and Rose leave with the children tonight, Ryder and Mason must go with them. It is dangerous enough for Omar.” Sara whispered to Axel who nodded in agreement.
“You are going to the gate with Brad and Thranduil tomorrow right?” Axel whispered, “Anything you want me to tell Bilbo?”
Sara nodded, “Give him this,” She said, handing Axel a folded note, “And tell him to be careful.”
Axel smiled but being the curious teenage boy he was, he opened the note and read it.
“Sara, what goes through your head these days? I think the babies are getting to you! Why do you need to know Fili’s body weight? Are you using him as a mold for the baby’s clothes!?”
Sara smirked, “Don’t worry about it. I just needed to make sure I estimated his weight right. it is part of the plan.”
“What about Azog and Thorin? Did you figure out a plan B for Plan B in case Plan X fails and when that fails, if plan B might fail?”
Sara shook her head, “Hopefully Plan A or Plan A’s Plan B will work.”
Axel nodded with worry etched across his face, “You know you only have three shots left.”
Sara sighed, “I am well aware.”
“You have three shots to save the three dwarves,” Ryder chirped.
Sara smiled, “I wish life were that simple bro, but life has a way of working against you.”
“Which can also be titled: The existence of Azog and Bolg.” Omar muttered which made Axel’s blue eyes widen.
“Sara, Azog is out to destroy the line of Durin!”
“Duh!” Omar mumbled, “He’s out to deliver us peaches and pineapple!”
“Sara,” Axel whisper yelled, ignoring Omar, “You happen to be carrying the next two heirs of Durin!”
Sara shrugged, “Well I don’t make it a habit of telling orcs that I am pregnant with Thorin Oakenshield’s children who happens to be king under the mountain, the dwarf Azog is out to kill which happens to make me Queen of Era…. Oh no!”
“Now you get it,” Axel mumbled as his sister’s face paled.
“What is it?” Omar asked, confused.
“Looks like we’ll need a plan B for Plan B, second edition,” Axel remarked.
***********
“Bard!” Sara called, deciding to not call him Mr. Bard since that sounded too American. “Excuse me!”
Bard turned to see Sara hurrying over to him and he smiled, “What can I do for you little lady?”
“erm…” Sara mumbled, “My name is Sara…”
Bard’s eyes widened, “I have heard of you… you are a member of the company of Thorin Oakenshield.”
Sara looked down, “Not anymore.”
Bard’s face softened, “you ran away, like the halfling?”
Sara nodded, “I know that makes me look like a coward…”
“Not at all,” Bard assured her, “You had to do what was for the best to protect yourself.”
“I was wondering if I could ride out with you tomorrow when you declare war on Thorin?”
Bard’s eyes widened, “You knew of that?”
Sara nodded which seemed enough to convince Bard, “Very well, but on the condition, you ride on my horse behind me. If Thorin is angry to see you, I do not want you shot.”
Sara beamed and nodded, “Thank you!”
She made to leave when she heard a voice behind her, “So it is you.”
Sara spun around to come face to face with the elven king, Thranduil. She bowed her head but Thranduil lifted her chin with his finger and studied her face.
“When I heard that Thorin Oakenshield had taken a bride, I did not believe it,” he touched the beads in her hair and eyed the two rings on her finger, “But I see that it is true.”
The elf stepped back when he saw Sara’s eyes flare in warning at his close proximity.
“What inclined the queen of Erabor to leave her throne and spouse?” the elf king inquired.
Sara squared her shoulders, “I did not marry Thorin for his throne. Nor di I leave him. I left the mountain to protect him and his…”
When she cut herself off, Thranduil frowned but his sharp eyes caught sight of the slight bump that was visible beneath her tunic.
His eyes widened, “His heir… this may work to our advantage.”
Bard went to object to Thranduil’s selfish plan but Sara intervened. “I will cooperate but on my terms.”
“Fair enough,” the elf smirked.
*********
“Do I have to go?” Ryder pleaded, his arm around Mason’s fluffy neck s his brothers and sister bade him farewell.
Sara smiled as she kissed his curls, “it will be safer for you. Tomorrow Grace and Rose will bring you all back and everything will be well again.”
Ryder stuck out his bottom lip in a pout, “Don’t forget to consider the names I picked for the babies!”
“We don’t even know the gender yet,” Omar observed.
“Which names did you pick?” Axel inquired, “Legolas Jr. and Pippin?”
Ryder shook his head, “That was Ruby’s idea. I picked Charlie Brown and Snoopie.”
********
“You ready for this?” Bard whispered to Sara who sat perched behind him in the saddle, her arms around his middle, his tall stature hiding her from sight.
“Yeah… totally…” Sara whispered back, “I am totally ready to reveal to my ornery dwarf husband that I am pregnant with his twin children, I ran away because I was afraid of him and I knew that Bilbo had the Arkenstone…. Yeah…. Definitely.”
Bard chuckled softly before pulling his mare to a halt next to Thranduil’s elk. Sara cringed when she heard an arrow strike the ground in front of the elk and Thorin’s voice bellowed from above.
“The next one will be between your eyes,” Thorin growled, followed by the cheers of the company.
Sara stifled a giggle when she heard the dwarves gasp when the elves pulled their bows on them at the nod from Thranduil.
“Payment of your treasures has been offered and accepted,” Thranduil growled through his teeth.
“What payment? I gave you nothing! You have nothing!” Thorin bellowed angrily.
Bard reached into his coat and drew out the Arkenstone, “We have this!”
Sara felt a hand touch her leg and looked to see Gandalf standing there next to the horse, shrouded by his big grey hat and cloak, “Bilbo went back didn’t he?”
Sara nodded, “he will be fine… with a little help from you.”
Gandalf smiled before leaning up and whispering something to the girl who beamed with joy.
“The Arkenstone is in this mountain!” Thorin yelled, startling Sara, “It is a trick!”
Sara bit her lip, knowing that Bilbo had appeared.
“What do we do?” Bard whispered with worry, “Thorin may kill him!”
Sara shook her head, “Help me down in a moment…”
“Curse you!” Thorin bellowed at Bilbo, seeing red as he dragged Bilbo to the edge and pushed him half over, “And curse the wizard who chose you for this company!”
Thorin froze in his movements when he heard Gandalf’s rumbling voice call out, “If you dislike my burglar, then please do not hurt him, return him to me!”
Thorin loosened his grip on the hobbit who went scurrying away from him instantly and snuck down the rope while Thorin sneered at Gandalf.
“Never again will I have dealings with wizards or shire rats!” he hissed.
“You are not making a splendid figure as king under the mountain are you?” Gandalf retorted. “You have fallen so far into greed and envy that you drove your own wife away.”
“You know nothing about me!” Thorin growled, “Not me, nor Sara!”
At those words, Gandalf, Bard and Thranduil all turned to Sara who gripped Bard’s hand and slipped from his horse to come stand next to Gandalf. Thorin’s eyes widened at the sight of the girl and he let out a shaky breath.
“What are you doing with those traitors!” He snapped, his eyes darkening with anger but glistening with sadness.
Sara growled under her breath, “If anyone is a traitor it is you Thorin! You promised to love me and never hurt me. Well guess what? You hurt me! Even when you had me, you had Erabor… when you had everything it was not enough for you! Even if I had told you that I carry your child would it have been enough!”
Silence enveloped everyone and Thorin almost choked on his own breath, the darkness in his eyes fading to give way to a light of hope and joy… clouded by pain.
“You… this is just another trick… a plan to make me cave…” Thorin mumbled mostly to himself.
Sara scoffed before reaching down and smoothing her tunic to reveal the visible bump hidden beneath. Thorin froze and his eyes widened, tears springing to the sky-blue orbs.
“You hid this from me? Do you trust me so little!?” he almost muttered.
That struck a cord and Sara shouted so loud that even Thranduil jumped, “What did you expect me to do!? The day after we are married, you treat me like I do not exist! You never slept or ate and spent all day searching for a bloody rock! You treated your best friends and family like dirt! Did you expect me to hand you the news on a silver platter with a ‘here you are Thorin, another life that you can treat like a slave!’” Sara hissed, “Fat chance.”
Thorin seemed shaken by her words and his eyes glossed over with tears. Sara’s face softened at the sight.
“I love you Thorin, more than anything but I feel that you do not love me anymore. I have lost you… and I have to think of the baby. So until you find yourself again, I cannot be near you or on your side.”
When Thorin did not speak but turned to hide his face from Sara’s vision, the girl sighed. Not yet…
“Are we agreed?” Bard called, noticing that Sara was not going to speak further. “The return of the Arkenstone for what was promised? Will you have peace or war?”
Sara closed her eyes, awaiting the fateful answer.
“I will have war,” Thorin said just loud enough over the sound of approaching feet, 1000 fold.
Sara groaned as she turned to see the silver armored dwarves cross the crest of the hill. “Ironfoot. The more the merrier I suppose…”
Gandalf reached down and grabbed Sara by the hand who in turn grabbed Bilbo’s wrist and pulled them toward where the dwarves were approaching.
“Who is that?” Bilbo whispered. “Doesn’t look very friendly.”
“Thorin’s cousin Dain,” Sara replied. “Lord of the Ironhills.”
“Is he and Thorin… similar?” the hobbit inquired.
Gandalf paused for a second, “Thorin was always the more aggregable of the two.”
Bilbo looked at Sara with a completely distressed look and Sara smirked, “Stay close to Gandalf and make good choices. If you need help, Axel and Omar are defending Dale.”
The hobbit nodded, “What about you? You are in no condition to fight! You’ll get hurt!”
Sara just smiled knowingly, “Do not doubt my intelligence dear Mr. Baggins. Just pray that things don’t go wrong.”
“Like what?”
“Like a certain dwarf prince having a not so friendly reunion with a particularly not friendly white giant orc creature.”

The night came and went, as did the morning, and you soon found yourself on the road again, however on horseback, which was much better then having to walk. And before you knew it, Gandalf was abandoning the Company to go up to the mountains.
Thorin was being nice and sweet, keeping you close as you and the other dwarfs made the journey through the darkness that was Mirkwood forest. Needless to say, you still managed to get lost. Which you found disappointing since you tried your best not to do that.
Mainly because you didn't fancy getting caught in the webs of a group of giant spiders. But hey, there you were, hanging upside-down in a mess of tangled web-work, Bifur on your one side and Oin on your other. Naturally Bilbo was nowhere to be seen, even so you hoped he’d come back soon, this one spider was creeping you up in a very wrong way.
As you hung, you started to think.
What Did Azog mean by 'earth-shiftier’?
Did you actually Agree to marrying Thorin Oakenshield?
Was Bilbo ever going so show up to save you from the spiders?
The answer to your last question was 'yes', since the hobbit then decided to make an appearance, and your second question was also answered when Thorin was set free; the king instantly setting to work finding then freeing you.
Now you were left wondering about your first question. As you and the Company decided to try to leave the spider-filled spot, you found yourselves surrounded by elves. Ones that would lead you to the jackass known as Thranduil.
You were searched, swords and daggers taken from your possession, and then to be shoved in the direction of these elves residence.
You had to admit, you felt you might not enjoy this, especially with how Legolas kept looking at you.
-----
Later, much to your surprise, you were taken away from the company and with Thorin towards Thranduil.
As you were taken along the wooden walkways you couldn't help but look around in awe. Mirkwood was beautiful. It made you sure that Erebor would be completely breathtaking.
As you approached the foot of what could be described as the throne room, Thranduil rose from his elevated position to sneer down at Thorin.
"Dwarfs in Mirkwood forest. Why must you taint the area further?" he asked, tilting his head to look at Thorin with more distaste then before. "With a dwarrowdam no less..." his voice trailed off as be finally looked at you, eyes widening as a look of shock reached his narrow features. "Ilya-nya?"
You looked up at him, confused beyond words, especially since you had no idea what he just said. Thorin looked at you, also not understanding, however due to not knowing how Thranduil seemed to know you.
"Pardon? Have we met before?" you asked, quirking an eyebrow up at the elf as his face morphed from shock to surprise to hurt.
"You don't remember? Have you really forgotten me (m/n)?" you laughed as his questions, earning an even more hurt look from the taller king.
"You've messed up Thranduil, sir." you started, looking up at him again after shooting a look back at Thorin. "(m/n) is my mother. My name is (y/n), not whatever gibberish you just said."
"Mother?...” you nodded as he seemed to soak in your words. You looked over at Thorin, he only shrugged. He mustn't know what Thranduil was on about either. "Is she still alive? Did she have anymore children? Where does she live?" he then asked, boring his eyes into yours with a sort of desperation.
"Um, she's alive. I think. Last time I saw her she was." he nodded as you spoke, walking back up to his throne as you continued. "She does/doesn't have more children. And she lives back in (hometown). Which isn't here-''
"I know that." he said, looking between you and Thorin. "At least she took a better fate than l initially thought.”
"Sorry, l still don't follow-"
"She was an earth-shiftier, I'm guessing like you are. Beings - usually humans - that with training can switch between different worlds, usually their home-world and a select few fictional ones." Thranduil explained, almost nonchalantly.
"So she's not here to protect me?" Thorin asked, moving to stand between you and Thranduil.
"Of course not." he scoffed. "How she ended with such low-lives like you all, I'll never know. But do know this; she won't be traveling with you now she's here with people worth her time."
"Excuse me! Why? You can't do that!" you yelled.
Thranduil waved his hand at you."You're (m/n)'s daughter. (m/n) was my wife, Queen of Mirkwood, mother of my son and heir, Legolas. My Star. As you are her child you are mine too. An elfish Princess, despite your short stature. And no child of mine will be seen with dwarfs." he redirected his last words at Thorin, Venom lacing each word with little effort. It almost made you sick.
"Thorin is My One! I wouldn't dream of ever leaving him. Not for a fancy title, any riches, or anyone; no matter who they are." you said, biting into Thranduil before Thorin could even open his mouth. "He and the company are my family, and family means we stick together-”
"Even through Dragon-fire? Through the horrors of Erebor and the danger of orcs?" Thranduil asked, standing again from where he was once sitting. "you are young to this world, (y/n). You know nothing of what would come for you if you went with him." Thranduil was, by now, very close. He was a fast walker and slow talker.
"She stays with me, as she wishes." Thorin said, almost growling at the elf as he stood closer to you. Thranduil stood tall.
"Then she is doomed to fall. Just. Like. You." he said in reply to Thorin, waving a hand at the guards nearby as he turned to you. "Rot here. l can wait forever for you to change your mind. Then we'll see where your loyalty lies." With that he turned away, and you and Thorin were taken down to the rest of the company.
-----
The cell you were put in was opposite Thorins, which you were grateful for.
Now you had time to think.
An earth-shiftier could, basically, travel between their world and fictional ones. Your mother was one too, and she became the lost Queen of Mirkwood. She'd spoken about a time before she met your father, a where she met a man that treated her like a queen. Now you realize she genuinely was, and Legolas was your elder half-brother.
“You alright (y/n)?” Thorin asked, leaning up against the bars of his cell to see you clearer in the darkness of yours. “Don’t worry about what that oaf said. I won’t let anything hurt you while there’s breath in my lungs.” You smiled lightly at his words.
“I know, Thorin. I guess that worries me as much as his words do.”
“You shouldn’t listen to him. He cares about no one but himself, his every word is a lie. He should know better than to doubt my ability to keep you safe.”
“And yet,” you started with a breathy laugh, “I still know I need to protect you instead. I know what happens to you, and I’ll still do anything to keep you safe. Something is going to have to give, Thorin.” You had stood to look at him, and you could tell Balin was listening in.
“No such thing will happen. We’ll both be safe once we get to Erebor.” you hid a cringe but turning away. He was so hopeful.
“And yet, as much as I want to believe you, I still feel one of us won’t make it.”

Mending Things
Tumblr media
Summary: Most of the company has left for Erebor, but Fili, Kili, Nell, Bofur, and Oin are left behind in Laketown where there is a chance for them to finally fix things
Pairing: Fili x wife!OC X Kili
Warnings: none
Word Count: 1436
That night all most all the company was happily eating the feast the master of Laketown had given them. There was plenty of food, ale, and good music going around but Nell wasn't enjoying it. She sat quietly in a corner talking to Bilbo. Fili had tried to get her to join them, but she wasn't in a mood to be around Kili. Which her fair haired husband had understood. It didn't stop him from coming to check on her every so often and she was grateful for it. But she was happy to sit in her little corner and talk with her friend until it was time to go to bed.
Later that night instead of sleeping between her husband's, Fili was in the middle. Kili was still completely lost on why Nell was upset with him as the only thing Fili would tell him was to think about Mirkwood. That wasn't enough to help him understand what was happening between him and his wife.  And it pained him, maybe even more so than his leg. Kili laid awake most the night sweating, pale, and at a loss as to why Nell wouldn't speak to him.
Morning came early and with it the rush to reach the mountain before Durin's day as it was almost upon them. Almost everyone was at the ships preparing to leave except Bofur, Nell wasn't sure where he was. She had just finished putting a package in the boat when she heard Thorin telling Kili he couldn't come. She stopped helping load the boat and turned to see what was going on. She saw how pale and sickly her husband was and felt horrible. But what killed her was the heartbreak she saw in his eyes when Thorin forbid him from coming. She watched as Fili climbed from the boat and Thorin stopped him.
“Don't be a fool Fili. You belong with the company,” Thorin said.
Fili shrugged his uncle off and looked at him coldly. “I belong with my brother.” He made his way to Kili's side helping him to stand. Nell didn't hesitate to follow after them. No matter how upset she was with Kili, she would never abandon him. Especially not with how he looked.
“Nell what are you doing?” Thorin asked.
“My place is with them. It always has been and it always will be,” she replied. Even if Kili wanted another she would not abandon him in his time if need.
Oin made his way off the boat and to their side as well. “I'll stay with the lad. My place is with the wounded,” he said.
And so that was how Nell, Fili, Kili, Oin, and Bofur(who had overslept and finally showed up) found themselves left behind. They rushed to ask the master of Laketown for help, but he refused and so they went to Bard's home.
“I'm done with dwarves,” Bard said as he went to close the door.
Nell placed her hand on it and stopped him, gazing at him pleadingly. “I know we have no right to ask anything of you, but please Kili is sick and we have nowhere else to go. I fear he will die if you turn us away,” she begged. And because Bard was a kind man who wouldn't wish death upon anyone he let them him. And it helped that his daughters were fond of Nell. Oin and Nell were quick to try and tend to Kili once they got him inside, but nothing seemed to work.
“We need kingsfoil,” Oin said. And Nell knew he was right.
“We feed it to the pigs,” Bard told them. Bofur of course was willing to go and try to find it.
Nell stood next to Kili holding his hand. He gave her a side smile. “I don't know what it is I did to upset, but I am sorry for it. I love you and I would never want to hurt you,” he told her, but his voice was weak. Even so Nell bit her lip and looked at him, unsure. It was hard for her to believe him after the looks she had seen him give Tauriel, but she desperately wanted to. Before she could reply she felt the house shake.
“It's coming from the mountain,” Bain said.
Fili and Nell both looked to Bard. “Take your family and go,” the fair haired prince said. Bard looked at them both sadly.
“Go where? There is nowhere to go,” the bowman replied.
“Are we going to die, da?” Tilda asked. Nell looked to the young girl and shook her head. She would not let that happen. Not after everything the girls had done for her. They helped her bath, loaned her clothes, washed her own (which she had changed back into), and treated her with nothing except kindness. She couldn't let anything happen to them.
“Of course not,” Bard tried to reassure her, but his tone didn't hold the strength he hoped it would.
“The dragon’s going to kill us,” Tilda cried.
“Not if I kill it first.” Bard ripped a black arrow down from under drying herbs. And the others looked at him in surprise as him and Bain left. They didn't think there were anymore of the arrows that could kill Smaug left but yet they had been wrong.
The hour was growing late, Kili was getting worse, Bain had returned without his father, and the others had no idea where Bofur was. Things were beginning to look dire and no one knew what to do. A sound on the roof caught Nell’s attention and she looked up curiously. She then noticed Sigrid standing outside on the balcony and asked her to come in. The young girl agreed but right before she could close the door a orc dropped down, causing her to scream.
The next few minutes were a blur as Nell pulled a knife off the table and began fighting. Sigrid was throwing things and Bain had flipped a table for the girls to hide behind, but their rescue came in the form on Tauriel and Legolas. During the fighting Kili had been pulled to the ground and was now crying out in pain. Legolas left after all the orcs were dispatched and Tauriel went to follow, but something stopped her.
“What are you doing?” Nell heard Bofur ask.
“I'm going to save him,” Tauriel replied walking back in the house carrying the kingsfoil in her hand. She walked over to Kili rubbing it between her hands before pushing it into his wound. Kili began thrashing about and it took all of them to hold him down as the Tauriel chanted, “Menno o nin na hon i eliad annen annin, hon leitho o ngurth.” There was a white glow about her that had everyone mesmerized, but Kili seemed to be getting better.
Just as the elf finished he looked at her completely dazed. “Nell, where is my beautiful wife? She is the most beautiful woman to ever walk the earth, but she is far from me now. Angry from slight I do not know. I wish I could get her to forgive me. She is my heart and soul and it pains me to know she is hurt because of me.” He sighed and closed his eyes.
Nell moved so that she was right above Kili's face. Hearing him tell Tauriel what he had made her realize that she had been worried for nothing, that he didn't have any feelings for the elf and now she felt guilty. “Oh, Kee. I'm right here my love. And I'm so sorry for ever being angry with you. I should have never doubted your love for me,” she whispered. Kili's eyes opened and they seemed much clearer than they had before.
“Why would you ever doubt it?”
“They way you talked to Tauriel. They way you gazed at her.”
“Oh amrâlimê. What I feel for her is nothing more than gratitude and friendship. She saved my life and I was amazed at her skills. I could never love anyone other than you. You're my one. No one can take me from you.”
“But the trousers thing?”
“A mere jest to see if I could make an elf blush. Though she really should have checked I had a small dagger,” he told Nell with a grin.
“Why didn't you use it against the spiders?”
“Then the elves would have taken it. This way I got to keep it,” Kili explained.
Nell laughed and gave him a kiss. And that easily things were back to normal between them.

Conflicting Loyalties (Part 2)
Based on a dream I had a while ago + some prompting from my friend Anna. Tell me if you think it should be a love story, and who with.
Mero meets her first dwarf!! Things will get more interesting I promise. This chapter is double the length of the last one, more the length the rest will be.
Warnings: abandonment, stereotypes (bias, fantasy racism?? I suppose that is what it is), mild gore and battle scenes. More will be added as the story progresses.
ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE. If you see mistakes please let me know, but if you are rude I will ignore.

It wasn’t until the next day that Mero thought to tell Bilbo of the guest that would be joining them. It took a moment for the information to process, but once it did Bilbo all but yelled. “You invited him to tea?”
The invitation had entirely slipped Mero’s mind (as things so often did) until she saw Bilbo preparing two fish teas. She had, quite offhandedly she liked to think, mentioned that they would need more food than that to feed their guest. As expected, Bilbo was less than pleased to hear the news.
“Why - oh goodness I think I need to sit down, I’m feeling quite faint.”
”I shan’t suppose it’s out of excitement?” Mero said hopefully, guiding her cousin over to his chair in the sitting room. He was shaking beneath her hands. “By the hair on my toes, the way you are acting makes it seem as if that dear old wizard had done something unspeakable - he didn’t take your smokepipe, did he?”
”No, no, thankfully,” Bilbo said, leaning back on his chair and fanning his face. He seemed even more flustered now than he had the previous day, which was no small feat. Mero, concerned for the hobbit’s health, pressed the back of her hand to his forehead. Bilbo waved her away.
“Are you quite well, Bilbo?” Asked Mero, a frown on her face. Bilbo leant back in his chair with closed eyes, attempting to collect himself before he worried Mero. It was too late on his part, for Mero was already regretting extending the dinner invitation. “Did I make a mistake in inviting Gandalf around?”
Sighing, Bilbo rose from his chair and put his hand on Mero’s shoulder. He had to reach up because the girl was substantially taller than him (as many Tooks were), but it comforted her nevertheless. “Of course not, Meroderada. I should have done so myself, yet my manners completely escaped me. All of the talk about ad - well, never you mind what Gandalf was babbling on about. I am happy to say I managed to avoid quite a bit of tomfoolery yesterday. I can’t imagine that he should bring it up again, certainly not in your company.”
A burst of curiosity spiked inside Mero along with a childish wish to object. As much as she tried to tell herself that she wasn’t interested in knowing what had made Bilbo so unsettled, she couldn’t deny that she was slightly curious. Slightly more than curious, one might say, had they seen what she fantasized Gandalf was speaking of - elven lords, terrifying monsters, and heroic acts, to name but a few. Before she could let slip that she desperately wanted to know, she herded Bilbo back into the kitchen, noting that the time was nearing four.
“Set the table, dear Bilbo, I will quickly scrap something together for myself, and Gandalf can have my fish dinner,” Mero said, talking quickly. “I do hope he likes fish, though I can’t see why he wouldn’t, being as well travelled as he is. Though, Old Took said he once met a traveller who wouldn’t eat anything that was once living. Curious, don’t you think?”
Before Bilbo could reply, a harsh knock sounded from the hallway. Mero paused in her food preparation, turning towards the door with anticipation. Perhaps she could manage to get Gandalf to talk of his travels without Bilbo intervening to say it all sounded dangerous. A good cake ought to distract the hobbit enough.
“I’ll get it, you continue,” Bilbo said, scurrying out of the kitchen and towards the door. Mero, too distracted now to continue preparing food, quickly put an extra plate and some bread on the table. Wiping her hands on her dress, she glanced at the clock to see that Gandalf had arrived at exactly four o'clock, which ought to have please Bilbo. Several moments passed and Gandalf had yet to join her in the dining room, so she went to investigate.
In the hallway, she saw Bilbo standing stock still. She couldn't see Gandalf behind the coat rack blocking her view of the outside, save for the night sky. This should have been the first indication to her that it was not the wizard at the door, indeed that it was someone quite dissimilar.
"Why do you stand here so, Bilbo Baggins, as if a spell has befallen you?" Mero said, walking up to stand next to her beloved cousin, still not noticing that their guest was not at all the one they had been expecting. It was Mero's way to notice everything and yet nothing if her mind was sufficiently occupied, as it happened to be at that very moment. "What on Middle-earth is that in your arms? A sword? I can't imagine what our guest must be thinking seeing you carrying around a - why you're not Gandalf."
The man (Mero thought it must be a man, yet he looked like no male she had ever seen before) chuckled or made a noise that resembled a chuckle. It could well have been a hairball, but Mero was inclined to think better of people. Most of his hair seemed to be concentrated around his chin area, stretching up to his ears but not much farther, leaving a clean bald spot with a tattoo on it. Although she had never met one, it was clear that this man with his tattoos and beard was most certainly not a hobbit, but a dwarf.
"By Elbereth and Lúthien the fair, you're a dwarf, aren't you?" Mero couldn't help but stare as she pulled Bilbo out of the way. The dwarf seemed quite content to walk into their home though she had not invited him to, yet she was too shocked to comment on it. Bilbo was in a similar state as her, but at the dwarves words, he snapped out of it.
"Aye, I am, lassie," the dwarf said, in an accent entirely new to the young hobbit girl. "You're husband here had much the same reaction."
"Excuse me," Bilbo said, pilling what Mero now assumed to be the dwarves belongings by the front door. "Firstly, this is not my wife-"
"A pleasure, Mister Dwarf. I am called Mero-"
"-derada. My cousin Meroderada,' Bilbo said, a hint of protectiveness in his voice. The courage that Bilbo had managed to build up to speak strongly to the dwarf suddenly disappeared when he started ravenously eating one of the fish dinners. "Oh, oh my."
That was how Mero would have described it as well, the way the dwarf was using his hands to tear apart the fish and stuff it into his mouth. With wide eyes, Mero watched, until the dwarf noticed her staring. Bilbo had long since moved to sit at the table, most likely feeling faint for the second time that afternoon. It was rare times like these that Mero's Took side shone much brighter than the Baggins side she had partially been brought up with.
"Dwalin," the dwarf mumbled through a mouthful of bread. It took Mero a moment to realise he was saying something, and only a moment later did she come to the conclusion that she had no idea what he was saying. She wagered she wouldn't have had much more luck without food in his mouth.
"I'm sorry?" she said, looking for him to repeat himself. He paused with another chunk of bread just in front of his mouth to fix her with his gaze again.
"My name. Dwalin, after my grandfather, Farin," Dwalin said, his gruff voice making Mero have to pay extra attention. "Your cousin said your name was Merida?"
"Meroderada," Mero corrected, before quickly adding, "though most call me Mero. Bilbo just tries to - well, I'm not entirely sure why he uses my full name. He is the only one. You are welcome to call me either."
"There was no mention made of a young lady hobbit." Dwalin raised a tankard to his lips, Mero following his every move.
"Who would have mentioned it?" She asked, although by now she was beginning to suspect that Gandalf, that sneaky old wizard, had something to do with it. He had said he was going to inform the others.
Dwalin regarded her with what could only be described as suspicion. He seemingly didn't find what he had been looking for, because he grunted and chewed quickly in order to answer her. "The same old man who told us about this place, and your cousin Bilbo -"
"The door!" Bilbo squeaked loudly, having heard the knock quite clearly. "Excuse me."
Mero suspected it to be Gandalf this time, ready to explain exactly what was going on. However, Dwalin seemed to think differently.
"That should be one of the others," he said. "My money's on Balin."
And he was correct, and Mero would have lost her money if they had actually put a bet on it, because a white-haired dwarf walked into the dining room, talking over his shoulder to Bilbo. Dwalin greeted Balin (his brother, perhaps, both of them named after grandfather Farin) in a peculiar way that made Mero jump - they smashed their heads together violently. Shocked, Mero decided it was best not to ask for if that was how they treated friends she was wary to see how they treated those they disliked.
"Balin this is Merida, Merida this is my brother, Balin," Dwalin introduced you both as Bilbo reappeared with another tray of cakes.
"Its Mero, actually," Mero corrected again, yet she had a feeling Dwalin was not going to remember. "A pleasure, Mister Balin."
"At your service, Miss Mero," Balin said, bowing to her. "They didn't tell us that one of our burglars was a lady."
"Burglar?" Mero questioned with interest, at the same time Bilbo said the word with horror. The doorbell rang again before either Balin or Dwalin could explain anything to the hobbits. This time, Mero made sure Bilbo was safely in a seat and answered the door herself because she was certain it was not Gandalf like he was expecting.
Opening the door she was met with the smiling faces of two more dwarves, around her height. One had golden hair that blended into his golden beard, the other dark hair and a little beard, that he made up for with a large grin.
"Mr Boggins," he exclaimed, bowing with the other dwarf.
"Fili, at your service," the blonde one said, followed by the dark-haired one saying "and Kili."
"You aren't Mr Boggins," Kili said upon hopping inside the home. "You're a woman."
"Mero Took, at your service, dear dwarves," Mero said, remembering her manners, even if she was panicking slightly on the inside. Watching Fili and Kili join Dwalin and Balin in the dining room, she whispered to herself, "We should have made tea for more than three. Now I fear we shall have no food left."
