Technically, if Sun hadn’t killed Blood Moon, we would still have at least Moon and possibly also Lunar not wiped and dead respectively. It seems like it was a tipping point to everything else that’s happened between Moon going in to expel KC (because it seemed like he did it as a way to fix some thing for Sun) and sacrificing himself, Eclipse forcing Sun’s hand to destroy the magic circle with his fragile mental state thus stranding Moon in his head, the pushing away of Lunar thus leaving him alone and vulnerable to be killed.

Possibly even KC’s redemption (though that may have eventually happened anyway but it seemed like the loss of Blood Moon only pushed him further into himself becoming good), and Eclipse having the opportunity to get the Star by threatening Monty with Lunar’s death as well.
