One too many times have you gotten up to pee or get water in the middle of the night and you come back to Bucky frantically looking for you in bed.

He doesn’t care if there’s ice cream on the counter that melting, he just wants to hug you for a few more seconds…. or minutes…

But if you’re angry enough that you want to sleep on the couch, or want him to, he’ll beg you not to (or to not make him)

He hates sleeping without you

It’s hard enough on missions

anyway this is got SO FUCKING LONG so ramble is gonna be under the cut:

so to answer your question, the short answer is that they’re doing bad :D!! this is a nightcord/wxs swap after all.

for context in this swap au, rui was able to join nene’s theater group when they were younger!! nene wouldn’t join unless rui was allowed to as well, so begrudgingly the members let him join despite not liking him much bc they thought nene would be a good member. rui didn’t really want to join either, cause he could tell the members didn’t like him much, but nene really wanted him to and since didn’t want to stop her from joining, he agrees to it.

rui and the troupe don’t get along too much but they’re willing to deal with him to keep nene around and rui’s pretty content being able to do shows with nene. until nene has that fuck up on stage moment like she does in her canon past, but its made worse when rui tries to stand up for her. picture the wxs main story fight. something like that.

unfortunately the member rui ends up arguing with gets all up in rui’s face and provokes him into shoving them. the guy isn’t seriously injured or anything but that doesn’t matter much because now they have fuel for rumors to spread about him, that they knew they never should have let that weirdo kid join, they always knew he would hurt someone, etc, stuff like that. but nene’s involved too now!! given that she was his friend and ends up being the only one to stick around with him, rumors spread around her as well since not only did she ruin their show, she also hangs out with “that weirdo kid,” so she’s probably just as weird and dangerous. so they’re both stuck in this together throughout middle school. how fun :)

nene’s stage fright and social anxiety after that is fucking godawful. she can’t bring herself to sing anymore despite wanting to SO fucking badly, so she turns to composing as a hobby. she sort of takes on kanade’s role as the shut-in composer. girl is completely petrified of leaving the house. rui still makes robo-nene for her, so she doesn’t have to leave the house if she’s too scared to and can use it to go run errands or something with rui as company. my girl has so much self loathing in her about what happened and berates herself a lot. thinks of herself as horribly pathetic and cowardly. also so much guilt i will get into in a minute

rui meanwhile is really discouraged from doing shows after that. discouraged feels too light for it tbh. he still loves shows dearly but (pre main story at least) he is like. so convinced he won’t ever be able to and shouldn’t even try connecting with people after that. because if all his attempts are only going to lead to him and other people getting hurt, what’s the point? he’ll always be the weirdo kid no one trusts, and he knows he can’t do shows alone, and he’s kinda accepted that he’ll just be forever be lonely and isolated, aside from having nene with him. but that’s not rlly comforting to him bc of how guilty he feels about dragging her down with him.

speaking of which: time to bring up their mutual guilt!! good fucking lord they both have so much guilt inside them and despite how deeply they care about each other neither of them have ever heard of communicating‼️ they are both fully convinced they are at fault for what happened.

nene hates herself bc she feels like she pressured rui into joining, for messing her moment, for not being able to stand up for herself, for making rui do it for her and leading to what happened, and then STILL being so much of a coward that rui has to defend her throughout middle school. she feels like a burden to him and feels so so horribly guilty about it. he made a whole goddamn robot for her because of how scared she is to leave the house anymore after the harassment and she feels she does nothing for him in return.

rui on the other hand feels horribly guilty for making a stupid decision in the heat of the moment and dragging nene’s reputation down with his. he thinks if he hadn’t been there, if nene had never been friends with him, nene would never have gotten so much harassment. he thinks he deserves it all, but nene doesn’t. he’s really protective of her and took most of the heat when the harassment was really rough. he’s fully convinced he did this to her, that it’s his fault and the very least he could do for her is try to help her as much as he can. this is nightcord wxs so of course he wants to disappear but rui doesn’t less because he thinks nene would miss him and doesn’t want to make her sad (he cares so so much about her but bro’s convinced she should resent him for doing this to her, cause he definitely feels that way about himself) and more bc in his head, it’d be fucking shameful of him to try to take the easy way out. like, how dare he leave nene like that, when he’s the one that did this to her. how dare he abandon her when this entire situation is his fault.

nene’s also been the closest one to ever actually disappearing. she berates herself a lot for being too much of a coward to actually do it, to free rui of the burden that is her. she wants to both bc of the amount of guilt and self loathing she has but also just. feels really lost and aimless. like her dream was to be an actress, but she can barely leave the house anymore, so how is she even supposed to do that? like. she’s tired of living the way she does as a shut in. but at least she has music. she finds comfort in composing.

they’ve clearly stayed friends through it all, and they both care so so much about each other, but there’s a sort of wall between them after everything. they still tease each other and hang out together since they’re neighbors, and try to pretend everything’s stayed the same between them. they get better at not being so closed off to each other!! eventually!! but god starting odd neither of them EVER open up to each other. there’s rui who struggles to identify his own feelings in the first place and nene who doesn’t want to bother rui but generally they both just have the mindset of “i can’t trouble them more than i already have.”

when nene starts composing, rui’s really really happy for her. like he sees how miserable she’s been so her finally finding something she seems interested in makes him really really happy. and later once the group is fully formed, being able to do music videos makes him happy too. it’s not quite the same as doing shows obviously, but he’s happy he’s able to tell stories one way or another.

guhh. i hope this made sense and didn’t contradict too much. i’m probably missing stuff. that’s all the coherent stuff for now though. these horribly sad clowns who have never communicated in their lives…i’m insane about them…

anyway, a few miscellaneous facts about them:

nene is fucking ruthless online, especially when it comes to people even being slightly mean to rui.

nene switched to home schooling since middle school, after rui graduated from it.

rui picked out their online aliases, tako (octopus) and kurage (jellyfish). he likes sea animals and thought it’d be funny. nene did not seem to find it funny, but she kept the one he chose for her anyway.

rui’s also gotten really good at video games since he’s played them with nene for so long.

they stay over at each others houses quite a bit, and as they learn to not be so closed off to each other, staying over happens a lot more. if one of them feels like shit, all one of them needs to do is just text the other and no matter how late it is, the other will already be prepared with some spare blankets and maybe a few snacks. they might not always talk, but it’s comforting being in the presence of the other.

they came out to each other as aroace during a sleepover back in middle school. it really just went like:

“hey, rui?” “yeah?” “i think i’m aroace.” “oh. me too actually, i think.” “oh. okay.”

nene got to know mizuki a little bit, since she stayed close to rui during middle school. he introduced them to each other, nene still keeps in touch with them.

they have a hobby of trying new cup noodle flavors and combos together. they have a tier list and everything.

they both get anxious about arguments, but nene especially gets really panicky and nervous.

Wait lmao the writer who posted that article about “izzy love triangle REAL” was the same one who cried through an interview with djenks after the finale ? Omg the reason Izzy’s storyline was tied up with theirs was bc he was going to die. Oh god they wrote the canyon article too. Spreading false hope with the authority of having seen screeners for review is bad idea. Of course people ended up devastated. David Jenkins never promised steddyhands was canon but someone who saw the screeners did. I’ve always loved Izzy but I never shipped steddyhands. Izzy needed to stop obsessing over a fictional persona (Blackbeard). He definitely didn’t need to sleep with Blackbeard. I cant believe people actually convinced themselves that’s where the show was going. No wonder they’re furious. I’m not part of the canyon I just noticed other izzy fans getting worked up about stuff being “real” that I didn’t see a basis for in canon. Like a love triangle. Ed and Stede don’t want to fuck him and never did. So much makes sense now.

oh golly i said i'd talk abt yan lilia a while back and i. did not deliver i am so sorry! i absolutely loved the witch!reader concept too; your brain is massive 😭💗 anyway here is what i think he'd kinda be like!

cw: kidnapping and babytrapping mentions

- initially he kinda ,, lurks. and waits. he honestly just wants to see how you interact with people and problems that get in your way bc he thinks that'd be interesting.

- but on the flip side, he's also a bit frivolous! he'll move things around so you "accidentally" bump into him throughout the day, and he can slowly get closer to you through this

- he's probably not very used to this kind of emotion, but he's probably at least slightly versed in matters of the heart by his age, so he's content to just wait a little and watch things fester and develop

- i can see him subtly pushing people away from you. if he really wants to make himself be seen as your savior, he'd probably start stringing rumors together about you until it becomes unbearable, and he becomes the person you most depend on.

- he's not super quick to kidnap, but it is an eventuality. he's aware of how time is different for fae and humans though, so it'll probably take him up till 6 months or so to gain your trust and let him take you to a spot he knows in the forest that he "thinks you'll like"

- i can also see him taking a bit of a different route for kidnapping too, via food and/or drinks. it's well known that you don't accept food/drinks from the fae, but you'd known lilia for a few months at this point, and he'd never do anything to harm you, right..?

- i don't think he'd ever lie to his darling tbh. even while being asked direct questions like "when will you let me go?" he'd just answer vaguely, things like "when you're ready to, of course!" while omitting that fact that he's convinced that you'll never be ready to leave. with questions like, "why won't you let me leave?" that don't require as much of a direct answer, he'll answer either like "you can leave whenever you want!" while not mentioning that the brambles outside his residence are so thick that it would be impossible for a grown human to get through without becoming severely injured, not to mention that beyond that the forests in his section of briar valley are so dense and dark that you couldn't find your way without a guide.

[with the whole fae thing,, can he even lie? he's good at avoiding topics and dancing around the point but i don't think he's ever outright lied in canon; even in jamil's r beans day vignette, he didn't technically lie about his cooking prowess]

- i don't see him getting particularly physical either; in one of the halloween cards, it was mentioned he was able to become incredibly frightening, so i think he'd probably use magic as an intimidation tactic if darling is getting a little too ,, feisty? for comfort, before turning to actual violence.

- he is a guilt tripper though, probably to the point of saying things like "if i hadn't saved you from your previous life, you wouldn't be as safe/comfortable/loved/etc as you are now" [bonus points if he gets to use multiple of those words and really slam the point in]. he'd probably find some way to emotionally babytrap darling via malleus and silver as well, with things like "well, they're already attached to you, it would wreck them if you left now..."

- he cares a lot about darling though, even if they push him away he'll still adore them and try to be kind (not kind enough to let them go tho). he dotes and will take care of you to the best of his ability

- basically, his style is a meandering process that leaves you a bit confused and thinking two things simultaneously: "how did i not see the red flags before?", and "is this really all that bad..?"

i dearly hope this is coherent! i'm on a massive amount of cold medicine rn and somehow that unlocked my writers block. i absolutely adore how you write yan lilia [and all yans in general!!]

Aaaa omg this is all so perfect!!! Lilia is definitely the type who seems tame or 'normal' compared to other twst yans, but the reality is that he can be very suffocating and overbearing when he wants to. You'll think that he isn't so bad and that this situation is manageable because he showers you with affection and (inedible) cooking and he likes to indulge in your hobbies and he'll play games with you, but you're still technically a captive. Even if it feels more like you've joined his family, you're still stuck with him.

Lilia probably introduces you to Silver, Sebek, and Malleus right away because he wants you to form bonds with the three of them. That makes it all the more easier to guilt you into staying. If you tried to leave him, they would be devastated. They consider you a friend and even family now, so you obviously have to stay to keep them happy, right?

While he wouldn't lie, he's vague about certain things and slips through loopholes with responses that still count as the truth. It can be frustrating because there really isn't an actual time to "whenever you're ready to leave," but he says it with such bright sincerity that you struggle to broach the topic again after that. He really does care for you, though, and he's given you so much affection and stability. Surely you wouldn't throw all of his precious gifts away just for a life of solitude. That simply won't do.

Like how Charlie sees them as a couple and think they're badass, how frank can't still believe dennis is with mac, how dee is absolutely annoyed by their excessive pda!

I also love when an original male character is interested in one of them before the other appears and then they're like "holy shit they're so in love" or omg mac/dennis is a lucky guy etc.

Honestly "I'm not a huge fan of "established" Macdennis is kind of a weird battleground, because for canon I constantly teeter between being fully-convinced they're fucking, have been fucking, for years, and that they've absolutely never hooked up, lmfao. (If you're wondering, we're currently standing at, yeah they're absolutely fucking).

So my idea of (or what I enjoy in terms of) "established Macdennis" is that they're together and no one knows, and that's kinda where I stand for fandom too, in terms of what I enjoy.

Personally to me the idea of Mac and Dennis openly dating and happy being seen in public as a couple is a little unrealistic. Especially on Dennis' side, he's already pretty anti-PDA/having others perceive himself as soft or being able to be locked down (and boyfriend/partner/lover is a label...). Then, letting Mac be on him, call him his boyfriend, etc. gives Mac a little too much freedom. For Mac, I think I go back and forth on the idea. S12-14 Mac would kill to call Dennis his boyfriend, would brag to everyone he knew that he was drilling him, but Post-15? I think maybe he's mellowed to a point where having Dennis to himself, as a secret, on the DL, would be kinda enticing (at least Dennis could convince him as much). There's something thrilling about having a dirty little secret so to say.

So my idea of them 'in canon' if they were officially together would be that each episode they kinda flip-flop being broken up and back together for stupid fucking reasons. I love the idea of all of The Gang hates and enjoys them together for different reasons, at different times. Like Dennis is just being a complete bitch and Dee turns to Mac and is like "Could you tell your boyfriend to be reasonable?" And Mac's like, "Oh, no, Dee we're not together anymore, see I forgot to pick up Dennis' dry cleaning on Saturday and that's a break-up offense, so..." and Dee just angrily huffs and walks away. And then the end of the episode Charlie walks into the back office right in the middle of Mac sucking Dennis off and he just yelps and slams the door like "DEE YOU TOLD ME THEY WERE BROKEN UP!" And then the next episode, once again, you have no idea they're together until Dennis is caught with his hand rubbing up Mac's thigh and Frank's like "No way, none of that shit in the bar!" and Mac grabs Dennis' hand and forces it off and is like "That's fine, Frank, because I'm not talking to Dennis right now anyway." And Dee's just like ???? Mac's called it off this time!? But no one actually wants to know, so they all move past it. I think Charlie would go back and forth between liking them together and broken up just based on how they play into his schemes and ideas in either scenario. (i.e. Mac wanting to get blasted with Charlie after he and Dennis have broken up for the 10th time or Dennis being completely willing to go with Charlie's plans bc Mac is into them and Dennis is staying on Mac's good side that week).

I think in any case, anyone outside of the Gang/recurring characters looking at the two of them would probably be into them because of their looks, see them nasty makeout and go damn, alright, too hot guys found each other, then watch them immediately turn around and try and kill each other for any random reason, and be glad they dodged that bullet... Lol

OMG WIAT I FOROGT A QUESTION

how do you write characters accurately? and how do you keep your character/oc/reader original and not like basic/stereotypical?

shhh I know those are 2 questions and not 1

this is actually a really good question pair! i’ll use ex and MAG cause she’s the most developed and you interact with her the most. and i’ll break it up so others can scroll cause it’s alot lol

so first, hearing things in their voice helps a lot. when writing matt, frank, billy, foggy, karen, etc i like to reread their dialogue in their voices. lets look at this dialogue (which is from something MAG later on that may or may not release)

when it comes to frank’s delivery, it starts with him worrying about ex she’s been constantly losing people for as long as he’s known her. he puts her ahead of himself because while he’s lost a lot too, he figures she needs comfort more than he does. and then with matt, it’s hard for him to even admit she’s gone so the words don’t even come out at first. then it’s just this confession, all at once and too fast to stop. that, to me, relays that saying it makes it real.

or finding key phrases in their dialect. frank uses “goddamn” for emphasis, says things as questions, leaves off words at the beginning of his sentences (“You ever do that kinda thing?”). matt takes pauses, very passionate and intentful when he talks.

and when it comes to actions, i do kinda cheat bc ill have the episode im writing playing at the same time but i also look at their relationship as a whole. matt is very tactile in general so he’s gonna reach for her or be nearer to her. frank is relatively distant until there’s that kinda peak of emotions. depending on the dynamic you want to create, taking examples of canon reactions can help.

now, as for creating ex, i think she is relatively stereotypical. she’s the black cat to the golden retriever, the grumpy to the sunshine, antihero to the vigilante, frenemies with the other powerful female, cares more than she lets on. i wouldn’t focus on avoiding stereotypes, but finding a combination of the archetypes that fits the personality you want your character to have.

another thing is to let your characters fail. ex wins a lot of fights, but her overall mission of killing fisk didn’t happen in s1 or s3. she doesn’t stop the hand in s2. she loses matt in s2b. she’s betrayed by people left and right; nat, matt, elektra, billy, dex. she doesn’t kill billy either for wcs1. and for someone who’s whole stance is killing people that deserve it or have wronged her, she shows a lot of mercy.

one thing that i thought about ex as im answering this, is perhaps her fatal flaw (i might not be using that right), ex has a tendency to trust too easily (despite her trying to convince herself she doesn’t) which is why she’s always betrayed. she met matt and foggy at a vulnerable time and they showed her basic kindness, boom, instantly loved them. frank showed her respect and didn’t tiptoe around her, which let her be herself and not feel like she had to tread lightly- boom, trusted. she looked matt so she turns to billy, someone she worked with and got along with so she started sleeping with him and actually liked him until he runs it. so then dex, someone who had been by her side and had no inclination to betray her or leave her at the time, later betrays her.

i think it’s not about creating some all new, never before seen, one hundred percent original character as much as creating someone complex and interesting. someone who’s realistic, maybe a little inconsistent. someone who can develop and progress as the story moves forward. i like to think that ex is a very in-depth character that shows clear traits and development, but there’s some things that you can look at and think, ‘she didn’t used to be that way’ like her willingly showing dex mercy. is it bc her old feelings or is it bc he was in matt’s suit or bc she had bigger priorities or bc he couldn’t fight back? i could give an answer but ex is a character that is open to interpretation.

No, sadly no mother daughter moments between YN and Sam this round ☹️😞 (Unless there's a blurbs, short AU etc) and as for Billy AND Stu (bc u cannot convince me he was loyal to any gf he ever had) sleeping around while in relationships or looking at us is kind of the point. It just shows, just like in canon, how hypocritical and misogynistic they are that if a woman cheats or sleeps around she's a whore but if they do it they're just being men.

It's very 90s (and modern let's be so fr about the misogyny today I mean Andrew Tate was so popular it was scary) for guys at the time to sleep with women they probably don't even have a crush on while secretly wanting a different woman. That basically those women are just little reliefs for urges and score cards towards their male ego while pinning for another girl they can't have.

It's my hc that Billy didn't love Christina and was just telling her things every teen girl wants to hear just so he could hit AND whose to say not use her in some way? If he actually loved her; not only would he have included her in the plan but he might have even not done the plan at all or altered it bc he had more than just himself to worry about. We don't even hear about Christina till 5 movies in and her not being at that party might have only been Billy not wanting his side piece and his gf he wants to kill to meet and ruin everything for the night. If it wasn't for that; who's to say Sam would even exist bc he might have killed her at the party as well?

It's lowkey kind of sad and naive on her part she thought they were in love when he most likely didn't even invite her to his best friends huge party (And she most likely had no idea they were going to kill so to her until the news came out it looked like he was just shoving her away) and was only meeting up with her like a dirty secret. I can just imagine a hopeful girl being manipulated by him...But, considering she cheated on her boyfriend and was purposely seeing a guy she knew was taken she was probably garbage too so the sad ain't there too much for me personally 😕 plus how she treated Sam for HER mistake 😒

Now, I always questioned if he didn't love her then why not kill her to prevent Sidney from finding out? I got two theories. 1. Teru honestly never paid much attention to the comments, except when they creeped him out or he thought they were a bit overboard, other then that Akane never really spoke of Aoi like that in the council room so he didn't pay much mind to it. untill he made a comment about asking Aoi-Chan out, saying how he'd steal her, only to leave Akane looking like that was the most confusing thing Teru has ever said, like I said he's not the brightest when it comes to others not knowing. even Teru, as a fellow gay, hadn't even noticed, I mean he never really commented on women besides Aoi, but he never thought he was gay...but Akane we even MORE confused bc he couldn't understand why he wouldn't like guys, for him guys are the most beautiful thing ever and has always liked them, but when Teru finally got the hint he shut down what he was saying immediately. Akane just moved on with his day, a little embarrassed that he didn't realize Teru didn't know that it was a joke a now the student council president, who he thought was attractive might see him differently because he likes guys, not knowing Teru also likes guys.

when Mirai came to retrieve Akane she ease dropped on a conversation when he was just joking and got SHIVERS, I kid you not, she felt it down her spine knowing that the person that cleans clock actually likes someone, why would he need romance when he could just eat candy?? anyways she the next day spied on him a bit, and heard some of his other comments and compliments, and after a week of gathering, and when Akane was off school she asked Kako about it. so when he came back the next time he needed to clean the clocks she jumped out of the blue and yelled "YOU HAVE A CRUSH~!!" jumping from wall to wall and singing how creepy he is, while Akane is quite annoyed and would like to know where she got these ideas. but hearing her go on he realized she's talking about him and Aoi(how could they be romantic?) and trying to catch her in his hands he said he didn't like her and would never, then Mirai stopped and sat on the ground mourning her love life, she sorrowfully said "Aowi-Chan got playyyyed..." and then Akane snapped saying that they were just joking and that he wasn't playing her, then walking off to go to the boundary. Mirai was confused but took the answer, not that she had the attention span enough to care for long.

working on the clichecore au and I’m kinda tempted to make Dionysus a Catholic priest. And I can’t tell if that’s a bad idea, a good idea, or an idea that’s so bad it’s good?

Anyway THE REASON for this nonsense is I need a Catholic priest who’s willing to bless a lesbian wedding for Kayla (Will’s Catholic on his dad’s side which I know is weird but don’t think about it too much, they’re not very religious and they’re bad at being Catholic) and Mr. D is down for homosexuality. There are lots of parallels between Dionysus and Jesus that I won’t get into and there’s some kind of symbolism with communion and Dionysus being the god of wine that I can’t quite put my finger on but I feel like there’s potential there with the blood of Christ thing. Also I think the idea of a priest who loves partying and getting drunk all the time is funny. And Mr. D’s nice to Will and Nico and no one else in canon so maybe it sorta makes sense that he’s the priest Will saw on the rare occasions his family attended mass?

wait. HANG ON. I’m coming up with a backstory. One day Will ran into the church sobbing like “I need to confess my sins” and Dionysus was like omg something horrible must have happened so Will and Dionysus went to the confessional and Will said that he stole an M&M from Michael when he wasn’t looking. And Dionysus was like…kid. Buddy. You took one single M&M. It’s ok. And Will insisted that he needed to be forgiven or else he’d go to hell so Dionysus was like geez ok god forgives you. Does your family know you’re here? Do you need me to call them for you? (His family did not know where he was. They were freaking out and had asked all their neighbors if they’d seen him and were about to start a town-wide search.)

After that Will would just show up to the church and chat with Dionysus for no reason which Dionysus found annoying but also endearing but also concerning like “I’ve only met you twice you should not be telling strangers this much personal information.” One day Will popped in and sat down by Dionysus and with absolutely no introduction, he was like “I’ve decided I’m a boy now” (everything before this was pre-transition) and Dionysus was flattered that Will trusted him enough to tell him that but he was also thinking this kid has no self preservation skills. A child just told a Catholic priest he’s trans in the mid-2000s. But Dionysus played it cool like “ok do you have a new name you want me to call you?” (he doesn’t ask many questions besides like ‘is everything ok at home’ because he’s trying to teach Will not to hand out too many personal details but he also wants to make sure that his family accepts him).

Anyway Will keeps doing this throughout childhood and then even when he’s a teenager. He goes to chat again whenever he visits as an adult and he rambles about his giant crush on his roommate while he and Dionysus get drunk off communion wine.

…wow ok I think I’ve convinced myself to make Dionysus a Catholic priest.

Anyway he’s the guy officiating Kayla’s wedding bc Kayla knows him a little bit (as in she’s seen him at Christmas occasionally) and she and her fiancé were like ok well I don’t know how we’re going to find a Catholic priest who’s willing to bless a lesbian wedding so we might need to go a more secular route but Will was like 👀 “I know a guy”

Thoughts???? Am I crazy??? Is this a terrible idea????
