It was after the Belgium grand prix. You don’t know how on earth Lando managed to convince Oscar to go out for the night especially after that DNF, but you weren’t going to question it. After being completely blinded by the camera lights, you step into the nightclub behind Oscar, keeping a tight grip to his hand. It was just as busy inside as outside, and seeing this, Oscar pulls you in front of him, placing his hand at the small of your back and guides you to the area with all the other drivers.

Once you and Carmen make eye contact, you both run to each other, engulfing the other in a hug. You exchange hellos with everyone and grab a seat, settling into the large couch. You were only at the Paddock for race day this weekend, so you had a lot of catching up to do with the girls. Oscar beside you, was doing the same with the other drivers.

While discussing Kika’s latest appearance in Fashion Week, you feel the similar warmth from the big hands you adore on your calf. You turn to look at Oscar and see he’s completely engaged in conversation with Lando and Charles but he absently runs his fingers up and down the lower half of your leg. You smile to yourself, thinking you know he gets touchy when he’s drunk, but especially after the bad race result, he would be double the amount of cuddly, and you couldn’t complain.

Deciding you’ve had enough champagne and needed something stronger, you and the girls get up to go to the bar. You lean down, placing a quick peck to the corner of Oscar’s mouth, “I’ll be back, just getting a drink.”

“Okay be careful,” he smiles, giving your hand a squeeze, and watches you walk away. To say he was worried you were going without him, was an understatement. Not that he didn’t trust you but that it was so busy in the club, he just didn’t want you to get hurt. Pierre, George and Charles feeling the same way about their girls; all 4 guys continue conversing but switch their gaze to watch the bar.

“Omg can you watch where your going jeez,” Kika mutters at a group of guys that push and shove their way through the crowd. You all roll your eyes and Carmen joins in.

“Forreal, it’ll kill them to say excuse me.”

As expected your boys tense and Pierre stands to get a better look but reassures the other boys once he notices you four walking back to your section.

Coming up the steps, you feel a hard gaze on you, and as you look up you confirm it, seeing Oscar’s eyes fixed on you. He reaches out his hand which you gladly accept, pulling you straight into him and onto his lap.

“Oscar!” You exclaim, some contents of your drink spilling over.

“Mhmm much better,” he sighs, pressing a kiss just under your ear. You melt right into him and get comfy. Turning to the left you look into his beautiful round eyes

“How are you doing bubs,” you ask trying to see if his mood has improved from earlier.

“Feeling great, it was a good idea to come out.”

“I’m glad,” you say pressing a slow sweet kiss to his lips. You can taste the tequila on him, confimring your thoughts that he’s a few drinks in, but he deserves to let loose especially after that crash today.

Speaking of, Carlos comes and sits beside you two, “Hey mate, my bad about earlier today. I just didn’t see you coming and turned in on you.”

Your glad Oscar isn’t as tense about this now as he was in the hotel, and he easily forgives Carlos and they continue chatting about other things. You look around, just taking in the night when Alex and Kika come running up to you, giggling and out of breath, “Sorry Oscar, we’re stealing her to dance,” they grab your hands and pull you up to head to the dance floor.

You turn, looking at a pouting Oscar and blow him a kiss, knowing he’s just being extra clingy today.

One song, two song, three songs pass, each better than the last.

“The DJ tonight really knows what he’s doing” Alex says, reading your mind.

“Don’t tell Lando,” you all break out into a giggle.

All the laughter quickly dies down when you see four guys approach you.

“You girls are too pretty to be here dancing by yourselves.”

“Yeah and we’re not, our boyfriends are right there,” Kika points to the section you left the boys.

“How about we give them a show then?” One of them smirks at you, moving in to grab your hips.

Carmen pulls you toward her, “Get off of her.”

Feeling very overwhelmed and uncomfortable, you try and spot Oscar at the booth but don’t see him, and suddenly the guys that approached you quickly scurry off. You turn the other way and see Charles, Oscar, Pierre and George all storming towards you. Damn you would not want to be on the receiving end of that you thought.

“What the fuck were they doing.”

“Are they stupid”

“Who do they think they are”

“I’m so glad we were watching the whole time.”

All 4 rightfully upset and checking over their girls to make sure they’re okay.

“Let’s go and talk to them,” Pierre starts.

You feel Oscar start to move behind Pierre and raise your eyebrows at him. Protective and touchy yes, but wanting to confront and start a fight, this was new.

“Yeah they’re not getting away with that babe,” he fights back. Already feeling overwhelmed, you don’t want the situation to escalate so you grab his bicep and squeeze, calmly shaking your head, “I’d rather you just dance with me.”

Instantly he melts seeing you look up at him through your long lashes. He sighs, letting you know he’s not happy with the decision but grabs your waist anyway and begans swaying you to the music, immediately calming you down.

“You’re lucky you look gorgeous right now and I can’t say no to you,” he says before pushing his lips onto yours, sensual yet passionate enough. A reminder for you and more for himself on who you belong to. He pulls back, resting his forehead against yours, noses touching.

You blink up at him innocently, while biting your lower lip.“Really, well how about you show me just how lucky I am?”

A smirks quickly paints his face. “That’s it, we’re leaving” he announces.

You squeal and as he grabs you by the waist and starts pulling you towards the exit. You turn and wave at the girls but honestly all you can think about it how truly lucky you both are getting once you make it to the hotel.

Two weeks pass in a hush. They've met a couple of times to get to know each other better. Max's summer break was now over so it was now time to go to the first race after the break. He and y/n decided she would meet him only on Sunday since she had to work. And that's what she did.

I arrived at Belgium 🇧🇪 earlier in the morning because the race started at 3pm and I still had to find a way to get there. Now I regret not accepting max's helicopter to take me there. But it is what it is. After a long train and a bus ride I finally arrived.

On my way to the circuit I started to think about Charles and the fact that I haven't told him anything about me and Max. I felt bad. What will he think when he sees me, he knows I never come to races. Well I decided to invent something when time came. I'm so stupid sometimes.

I arrived at the circuit and enter to the paddock and headed straight to the redbull garage. My eyes met his and he instantly smiled and come to me.

"Hello beautiful, I'm glad you arrived in time I thought you were lost" he said laughing and mocking me. He then gave me a kiss on the cheek way to close to my mouth. And smile.

"Well...that's not very far from reality" I laughed "after some challenging train and bus rides I'm here" she laughed.

"Yeah gladly. So I'm giving you these headphones and you can stay in the garage or you can be upstairs in the balcony. What do you want.?

"Well, it was your friend Max" I said, and he gave me that Charles look the typical I don't know any max. "Which Max, we don't have any Max friend in common"

"Don't be dumb Charles, Max Verstappen"

"That I can agree he's been very kind to me" I said blushing. He laughed because of my embarrass. I gave him a little punch on the arm

"Ouch are you trying to injure me? Already helping your "friend" Max" he said pretending to be offended. I laughed "of course not you're still my favourite boy"

"Sure let's see when will it last" he said laughing

"You're so mean Charles" I laughed too

"Anyway I have to go y/n, the race will start in a couple of minutes"

I gave him a last hug and wish him good luck.

I went straight to the redbull balcony to get ready to the start of the race.

Max pov

As I sat in my car the first thing on my mind today. How the fuck am I gonna win this race starting from p14? Sure it was not impossible but it should be hard I mean I'm not racing alone.

I had to win it anyway. I don't break my promise.

Lights out and it begin. I quickly overcome a lot of drivers to be in the lead of the GP in lap 12. Well I thought it would be harder but as there was a lot of drivers who had penaltis like me I was lucky but kinda of a badass too. I controlled the race has I wanted no one had the pace to come near and I end up with a 18 second from my colleague Perez who was second. I see the checkered flag and I've made it P1! Everyone congratulated over the radio but what I couldn't wait was to see her.

I parked the car in "parc fermee" on the number 1 position and jumped into the team. Everyone was incredibly happy with the 1-2. Everything went on very quickly the ceremony of the podium, but still no sign of her. I started to think she got so bored of my job that left. What a great start.

As I enter my driver room I see her sitting in the couch. I instantly hug her. She hugged me back very tight.

"Congratulations Max, what a race!!" She smiled very happily to me

"Thank you, I did it for you sweetheart" she blushed

"I waved a little when you were on the podium but I guess you didn't saw me" she smiled

"You were there? No I actually thought you left for being so bored" I laughed

"How could I be bored when someone just won a race for me? Starting P14?, you're incredible Max" she said with her eyes focused on mine.

"Well I just happen to be an amazing driver 🤩 " he said joking but truthfully because he knows he's awesome.

She laughed even harder "You're such a bad liar Verstappen"

"I don't lie princess" I winked at her "sure you don't.

I take a shower and put on my normal clothes.

"Should we go lady" I ask her.

"Sure, where to?" She asked with curiosity

"First we will fly to Maastricht by helicopter and then I'm taking you somewhere special which you will see when we get there.

"Never been to Maastricht I'm sure I'm gonna love it Max you're incredible" she smiles sincerely

As we arrived to Maastricht we quickly travel to the centre of the city near the Meuse river. And that is where I'm gonna suprise her. We got out of the car next to this incredible historic vintage boat that I rent for us to spend the night and day before going back to Monaco.

"Well tonight it's all about celebration I hope you like y/n” I said

"I'm sure I'm gonna love it Max" she said smiling

We enter the boat and put our things in a small but comfy bedroom downstairs. I made prepare a dinner with a very fancy whine illuminated by thousands of candles. Everything looked incredible.

Everyone is so happy for me and my dad said I should be proud he took some bit of his time in Italy for me. I think what I love the most is the fact he really took care of it, he is calm alone in his room (you wonder who he kicked out of it to do this) he settled all and tries very hard not to forget any points of the brief.

I think Charles’ win in Monza in 2019 will forever be a favourite race of mine too. it’s kinda everthing you need to know about Charles as a driver and about modern Ferrari for me… like i have more faves from charles i could go into but that race. that’s The One

but ya know for Carlos this is one of the first times ive properly stopped to think abt my favourite races of his! With Ferrari i think I would say Monaco, Abu Dhabi, Turkey and Russia all from last year were my faves… then Silverstone this year ofc 😙 and Canada and France and maybe even Monaco this year all went a bit below the radar for him but were overall very good. I only really properly started paying attention to his racing abt halfway thru 2019 tbh but he was very impressive in mclaren. My memory is so bad but ofc Monza 2020, it was bittersweet but he did very well and Brazil 2019 is still one of my favourite races of his ever! I believe he also dragged a toro rosso up to p4 in Singapore in 2017 (or maybe 2016 ???) also. He overall does very well on street circuits so those are always fun to rewatch!

This is a list of my first reactions when watching the performances for this year (now bare in mind this was at 2am and took me an hour to go through almost all the countries (I did miss a few at the time) you can tell at what point I start getting tired)

I'm doing great at my summer job! It's actually really easy, the only stressful thing is to handle money (I'm a cashier for the bus company of my town!). The team is great, and I make a good amount of money (which it's great 😭).

focusing on your new job turns out to be a hundred times harder after seeing the smiley dutch midfielder..

today was the day.

here you were, 22, fresh out of college and about to step foot onto the dutch training pitch for the first time and start your new job.

last night you had spent hours fretting over tiny details, making sure your cameras were charged and ready, your lenses were wiped clean, and that everything was nice and tidy.

you had planned to wake up extra early, making sure you had time to get everything situated and set before practice began.

that was the plan.

that’s.. unfortunately not what happened.

in your excitement, you had forgotten to set an alarm, which led to your current predicament, biking as fast as you can, racing through the dutch streets.

you glance down at your watch, narrowly missing a parked car as you do so.

you arrive at 7:58, just in the nick of time.

seeing that the team was already out stretching, you throw your bike down with a crash and run onto the field.

the crash of your bike hitting the pavement caused a few heads to turn your way, with a certain number 14 taking particular interest in your entrance.

blind to the commotion you caused, you laid your camera bag gently down along the side of the field (amongst the other photographers), then bend over unceremoniously, trying hard to catch your breath.

considering you had biked 5 miles in 10 minutes, you were spent, forgetting all your excitement in the process.

when your heart rate had somewhat slowed, you began setting up your equipment, and quickly the nerves and excitement arose once again.

you picked up your camera and took a photo of the closest player to test lighting (that player being sari van veenendaal), all the while internally screaming that that was the fifa 2019 best goalkeeper while doing so.

disregarding how much of a mess your morning was, the next hour went splendidly.

you managed to get a few shots of miedema with gorgeous lighting, photos that your manager undoubtedly would want to publish later on.

few photos were “unusable” (you were pretty damn good at your craft), and your camera roll was soon flooded with a wide variety of individual and group pictures.

at this point you had almost gotten all the players individually, your task being to get each of them by the end of practice, which was coming up shortly.

you snapped a few pictures of wilms, grinning widely when you see how well they turned out.

scanning quickly through the list of players, you sigh with relief when you realize you only have one more player to take photos of, #14.

you scan the field with your camera quickly and your breath promptly catches in your throat.

jackie was laughing at something daan was saying, her smile gorgeously on display.

you couldn’t help but stare, your hand lowering the camera as you forget the task at hand.

but how could anyone blame you?

she was, without a doubt one of the most gorgeous people you had ever seen.

her gaze meets yours suddenly, you let out a squeak of surprise in response and fumble your camera, breaking eye contact as you lunge forward to catch it.

you let out a sigh of relief when you grasp it, cheeks blood red at your actions, the older photographer next to you letting out a chuckle as he shook his head.

“kid you gotta be more careful.”

you nodded and smiled at him kindly, before shaking your head quickly and resuming to the task at hand.

with the ten minutes before the end of practice, you took, in total, one photo of jackie.

this was a disaster.

you just kept getting lost staring at her, this time through the lens of your camera, so starstruck that you forgot to actually take pictures.

you let out a sigh as you began thinking of an excuse for your boss later.

walking into the locker room, jackie rolled her eyes at jill’s words.

“but did you see her jacks? that new camera girl is..” jill letting out a low whistle to finish her statement.

“i mean i’m taken but i have to agree she is pretty cute” daan said, popping into the conversation.

soon whole the locker room began chatting about this “new camera girl”, and jackie couldn’t help but blush.

she had to agree with everyone, you were absolutely adorable, and watching you almost drop your camera upon seeing her only solidified that.

jackie was brought out of her thoughts by jill who, very loudly, pointed at her and said:

“oh. my. god. you like her.”

jackie swatted jill’s hand away.

“shut up no i don’t.”

“oh my god she’s blushing she totally does,” daan squealed.

the locker room was soon buzzing with excitement over jackie’s new crush, filling the air with:

a lot of “omg jackie!”

and

even more “ask her out!!”

with jackie of course very adamantly denying such a proposition.

even through all of the teasing, jackie couldn’t help but hope that she would see you again tomorrow.

you arrived earlier the following day, much much earlier, so much so that no other photographers had arrived yet.

you set your bike nicely against the rack this time, taking your time to admire the nice day as you lay your bag along the edge of the field.

you take a quick look at your watch, 7:17, and upon seeing that no one was around, picked up a soccer ball you found in the corner of the field.

having played a little bit of high school and college soccer, you juggled the ball around a little bit and then attempted to score from midfield.

you hit the ball right into the corner of the net on your second try, jumping up in excitement, when you hear someone speak behind you.

“for a sports photographer, that wasn’t all that bad.”

you turn around abruptly and let out a small squeak of surprise when you’re greeted by the very girl who had enchanted you the day before.

she lets out a dazzling grin before putting out her hand and saying:

“hi i’m jackie.”

“i- uhm y/n” you mumble, eliciting a giggle from the dutch girl before you.

you wipe your palms against your jeans quickly and take her hand, trying to desperately ignore the sparks that shot up your arm from the contact.

an awkward silence followed for the next few seconds, until jackie spoke.

“so, y/n, do you want to kick a ball around with me before people get here?”

“i’m, uh i’m not that good i mean i played a little in high school and college but like just for rec teams and i mean you’re on the national level so like i’m i don’t know i should probably just stick to photography i hope i didn’t offend you i’m just not that great and i yeah.”

you stop your rambling and blush, hoping she can decipher your message through your jumble of words.

jackie just lets out a laugh and your heart melts a little at the sound.

“i can take a few pictures of you though if you’d like?” you offer, hoping to spend a little bit more time with the midfielder.

“i would love that.” jackie says, letting out an even larger smile if possible.

for the next fifteen minutes you took dozens of photos of jackie, all the while learning about her life in manchester and belgium, how she broke a bike on the way to practice once, her dogs, and other snippets of her life.

you honestly couldn’t believe that this girl, this incredibly attractive and funny and just stupidly gorgeous girl was talking to you.

it was 7:50 when the other players arrived, jill letting out a whistle and yell when she saw who was already on the pitch.

“get it jackie!”

the other players cheered as well, letting out wolf whistles when they saw the two of you.

jackie got up but before she left she turned and gave you a hug then saying:

“sorry about them. they’re quite an obnoxious bunch.”

you let out a laugh and the two of you parted ways as practice was about to begin, your heart beating so fast you were afraid it would burst.

your boss let out a sigh as he took his glasses off.

“why are there 864 photos of jackie groenen in your camera roll?”

“i- i dont know” you stammer.

“this isn’t what i meant when i said you took too little of her yesterday.”

you flushed a deeper shade of red in utter embarrassment.

if your conversation with your boss was any indicator, practice was a disaster.

it wasn’t the players or practice itself.

it was you. your gay mess of a self.

but you just couldn’t help but trail the midfielder for the entire practice, your lens (and eyes) never leaving her.

it was only at the end of practice when you looked through your camera roll when you’d truly realized just how many photos you had taken of her.

each and every page filled with pictures of the number 14, her smile as bright as the day.

in your defense, you had taken quite a few fantastic photos of her, though there was one that was your favorite in particular, with the sun shining at the midfielder at just the right angle, illuminating her eyes and leaving her smile with its signature glow.

and of course that was the photo that caught your boss’s eye, despite his disappointment of today’s “turnout”.

and of course he wanted to publish it immediately.

and of course jackie saw it. and posted it. and tagged you in it.

each time there’s jackie, always smiling and always gorgeous, and each time there’s you, always bumbling and always blushing and always tripping over your words.

but jackie only saw it as endearing, and continued to talk to you even when you were making a fool out of yourself.

eventually came the time for the netherland’s first matchup against a team, that team being estonia for the euro qualifiers.

you were brimming with the excitement at attending your first match as a photographer, and you arrived extra early match day to set up and get a good spot on the field.

“well if it isn’t my favorite photographer.”

you spun around quickly to spot jackie in her full kit, a blush promptly forming on your cheeks and your heart skipping a beat upon seeing her.

somehow you managed to reply:

“well if it isn’t my favorite player.”

this was your first time saying something that remotely resembled flirting with her, clearly catching the midfielder in surprise, as her face flushed a bright red a second later.

you had even expected that you would embarrass yourself in some way during the match.

what you didn’t expect however, was for jackie groenen to come running at you after the match.

but before you could get a word out,

she pulled you in by the camera straps around your neck and kissed you.

you stood, frozen, as if you couldn’t believe what was happening (because you really couldn’t).

jackie had started to realize you weren’t reciprocating and began to pull back when you came to your senses.

you kissed her back, hands moving to her waist to steady the two of you.

it was everything you wanted a first kiss to be, passion fueled and full of sparks, her hands moving from your chest to cup your cheek.

jackie was the one who pulled away first, a smile plastered on her face much like the one that had drawn you to her that very first day at practice.

you pulled her in to kiss her again, forgetting that your camera was still looped in front of your chest, only noticing it when it was in the way of getting her closer to you.

you pull back with an annoyed huff and gently take the camera off, turning to drop it on the bench behind you.

“go out with me sometime” you say when you turn around again.

jackie’s face just splits into a sparkling smile.
