Least favourite characters:

Aside from the obvious villains obviously, I’m gonna say Kane and Abby. I never really cared for their stories, I’ve hated Abby since season 1 and Kane since s5 there’s just something about them being absolutely awful leaders and blaming kids for their failures that I can’t get behind.

Otps:

Basically lmao.

No but seriously, I think their love story is just great on so many levels, they’re the only love story I really care about in the show.

Other couples I really like are: Bellamy and Echo, Octavia and Lincoln, Octavia and Niylah, Octavia and Diyoza, Murphy and Emori and Raven, Echo and Raven, Jasper and Maya, Monty and Harper

Notps:

..... Bellarke lmao.

I enjoy the dynamic between Bellamy and Clarke, but I never saw it as romantic, and that’s how I enjoyed it. I love their ennemies to reluctant allies dynamic, I love the fact that their relationship is dysfunctional I love the parallels between Clarke and Octavia. But I don’t enjoy it at all as a romantic dynamic.

This is almost only found family because this show has a ton of found family dnamics that I love!! The Blake siblings, Spacekru, Octavia Diyoza and Hope, Raven and Finn.

Murphy’s Law, Blood Must have Blood part 1 and part 2, Thirteen, The Chosen, Pramfayia, Red Queen, The Garden

Favourite season/book/movie:

Season 2. It has my favorite version of Lexa, it has Bellamy and Echo meeting, it has the most interesting antagonists (in my opinion haha). Season 4 is a close second though!

Favourite quotes:

“You believe that to defeat an ennemy who will stop at nothing, you must stop at nothing. How is that any different than Blood must have Blood?” - Luna in s3, because I think this quote shows very well the central conflict of the show, one that was established by Finn in s1: We have to try not to repeat history, and yet everytime, they do repeat it. I disagree with Luna in that instance because the threat that was ALI wasn’t like any other, but I agree with her sentiment.

“In peace, may you leave this shore. In love, may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels. Until our final journey to the Ground. May we meet again.” LISTEN. If there’s is one thing of the world building I absolutely adore, it’s the Traveler’s Blessing. It’s a beautiful prayer, and it gives me all the right emotions when I think about it. I was disappointed with what the show was making of it in seasons 2 and 3, with characters saying it all around, but then there are two instances that really get to me: Octavia and Bellamy saying it over the dead radio at the end of s4, and Monty / Bellamy and Clarke saying it at the end of season 5.

Best musical moment:

I loved the way the music carried the scene right after Lexa’s death, how it melts from Lexa’s death and Titus saying his ritual words, to Becca reaching earth, back to Lexa and the Flame coming out of her.

Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest:

Oh boy there are a LOT Off the top of my head: when Monty refuses to leave Jasper alone when he gives his blood to Maya, when Murphy says “Touch me again and I’ll end you... in a non-criminal way”, when Becho was confirmed in s5, When Clarke managed to align the satellite dish in Pramfyia, when Octavia confronted Skaikru in The Chosen,.... I can’t think of others right now but there are a lot lmao You can check out my favorite scenes series if you want, I’m working on it slowly!

When it really disappointed you:

A lot of times, honestly... I’m gonna say, all of season 6. I hated it. It had so much potential, with characters having to deal with the aftermath of season 5, Monty and Harper dying, Jordan existing, Wonkru.... Instead we got a whole mess that didn’t do much for any character and I was really disappointed.

Saddest moment:

Lincoln’s death. I knew it was coming because I knew the actor was leaving the show, but I was so NOT READY for it omg it’s the scene I still cry everytime I watch it because it’s so sad and heartwrenching....

Most well done character death:

Okay so I think The 100 is really bad at having well done character deaths, so I’m gonna say my less well-done one lmaoooo

Lexa’s. Her death was so stupid. I wasn’t in the fandom at the time so I wasn’t aware of the awful queerbaiting that was going on, so without talking about BTS and marketing ploys, I do believe that her death was heavily predicted by the show. However, it was a stupid death and Lexa was too awesome a character to die by a stray bullet. She deserved a proper send-off, she deserved to die in an epic battle, or fighting for what she believed in,..... not a bullet.

Favourite guest star:

I know Shawn Mendes (Mendez? I don’t know lmao i don’t know him) was a guest star but I don’t know any other guest star so I guess that’s my answer lmao

Favourite cast member:

I don’t follow the cast, so I don’t have a favorite xD

Character you wish was still alive:

Jasper and Finn both deserve to still be alive, because the show treated their mental struggles like shit and I’m very bitter about that!

One thing you hope really happens:

Honestly, I don’t know? We have four episodes left of the entire show and I have no idea where it’s headed lmao I guess I hope both Emori and Murphy survive to see the end and have a long and happy life <3

Most shocking twist:

Okay I actually have three so I’ll you my top three:

1- The revelation of the Mountain Men. I was absolutely NOT expecting this to happen and I was gasping and going “nooooooooo way!!!” at my computer because it was so out of nowhere!! I loved it lmao

2- Murphy discovers that ALI destroyed the world: the ending of s2. That scene is so chilling, Murphy watching the video of Chris crying and killing himself, cut with scenes of Jaha getting to the mansion and the wholse scene with ALI herself... that whole scene was really cool and unexpected!

3- Clarke and Jaha steal the bunker during the conclave. I was so SHOOK by this moment, it was such a bold move and I loved it!

When did you start watching/reading?:

Early January, 2015. I was back at my appartment waiting for the semester to start, my roommates weren’t back from the holidays yet, and I was bored. So I started the show, and I binged all of season 1 and half of season 2 in 24 hours xD I caught up at Spacewalker, and then had to wait two weeks for the next episode to air and it was agony!!!!

The Second Dawn Bunker. Yeah I know it’s strange coming from me because I absolutely hate so many things about the bunker xD But it was such a cool location!! With the rotunda/arena, the farm, the huge corridors,.....

“It’s the end of the world, whatever shall we do???” I’m just tired you guys. Nuclear apocalypses and other bombings should not be that common lmao

One thing this show/book/film does better than others:

I love the fact that it has so many different and well developped female characters.It shouldn’t be rare, but it still is, and this show really stands out to me for that reason. I’m not saying it’s the peak of feminism or anything because lmao IT’S NOT. But the women of the show have agency, freedom, they’re all distinct from one another and not just tropes and cliches. I really like it.

Funniest moments:

Nothing comes to mind right now? I feel like an idiot lmao I have so many moments that make me laugh and I can’t think of a single one right now x)

It’s very obvious symbolism, but I love the last shot of Blood must have blood part 1, with Clarke standing alone in front of the door of Mount Weather.

Also, Octavia forcing the clans into submission in Red Queen, the mini conclave in fron of the doors of the vafeteria. The shots in that scene were really good!

Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you:

Lmaooooooo do you have ten hours? Because that’s how long I can ramblr about the inconsistencies and plotholtes of this show x) Off the top of my head:

- Why does everybody on the Ark speak Enlighs?

- If Becca knew Nightblood could let you live on Earth then why didn’t she distribute it among the space stations?

- Why did Cadogan build the bunker in the middle of the city when he had a prefectly good FOREST??

- If Lexa is the first Commander to unite the clans then what was the role of the Commander before her?

- Why didn’t the Ark send one adult with the 100 (Pyke) to protect and help them?

- How come the Eligius IV prisoners don’t die when they come back to Earth in s5 since they have no nightblood and didn’t adapt through evolution?

- How is it that Spacekru survived with algea alone but Wonkru had to have this huge variety of plants?? WHAT’S THE MAGIC ALGEA MONTY???

- Why did Mount Weather crash the Exodus ship?

- If the ressources on the Ark are so scarce then why would they float people with clothes on them?

- How come Raven could visit Finn in prison but Bellamy couldn’t visit Octavia?? If Octavia was in solitary, why?

...... Okay i’m gonna stop for now lmao but I could write an entire memoir on the inconsistencies of this show lmao

LOVE THIS. This is the first time I've wrote a true reader insert, so hope you like it!! Also sorry this took so long, I had to be an adult today, which always sucks. Happy Reading!! Feedback and requests are always welcomed!!!

Even though working was great, and you honestly loved your job, it just wasn’t what you dreamed of doing. After a lot of contemplation, you decided that you were going to go back to school. You wanted to start fresh for the spring semester, but you had to discuss it with your boyfriend. Of course Calum was completely supportive, what kind of boyfriend would he be if he wasn’t? With his support, you decided to go to part time at work instead of full time and concentrate solely on school. Everything was going great until the pandemic struck. Ever since the lockdown was ordered, you had been forced to take online classes, spending most of your time locked in the office, or the bedroom concentrating on school work.

Today was no different, only Calum had a zoom meeting for an interview, so he needed the office. To switch things up a bit, you sat on the couch and propped your laptop up on a pillow that sat gently in your lap. To help yourself concentrate, you put a pair of headphones in and kept the TV off. The music blasting through your ears caused the entire world to shut out. The only thing you were focused on was your laptop, everything else was tunnel vision. So, when Calum suddenly threw himself on the couch next to you, your heart almost jumped out of your chest. Your fingers quickly reached for the buds in your ears and you looked at Calum, “Little shit, you scared the hell out of me.” A laugh falling from your chest in hopes that would help the pace of your heart.

He laughed, putting an arm over his forehead and turning on the TV, “I know, you were pretty zoned out there. Getting a good amount of work done?” He asked as he changed the channel a few times and the irritation continued to build in your chest.

“Are you done in the office? I still have some stuff to finish up. I just don’t want the TV to be a distraction.” You asked, closing your laptop and stepping over his legs which were stretched out and resting on the coffee table. Going into the office would help assure quality school work, and school work that would hopefully be finished faster without distractions.

Calum rolled his eyes, dropping his arms onto the couch, “All you ever do is school work, can’t you take a break for an hour so we can hang out and watch a movie?”

The way he asked made your heart swell, he looked so damn cute with the stupid pout he always does. “Cal, we had this talk. I am a full time student, which means I have to concentrate on my school work full time.”

A smile formed on his lips as he eyes stayed glued to the TV, “Full time and all the time are not the same thing, Y/N.” He chuckled and turned the channel on the TV.

You sighed and rolled your eyes, stepping over his legs again take your seat on the other side of him as you had been. “I have one more assignment to finish up, and then I’m all yours, okay? Can you just keep the volume on the TV down?” Calum agreed. As you opened your laptop back up to where you had left off, Calum leaned against your arm and turned the volume on the TV down so that it was just barely audible.

Unfortunately, one assignment turned to two, and then three, and then four. Calum was starting to get bored watching you work on school work, you could tell because he kept looking over at your laptop screen. As annoyed as Calum was that you weren’t done, you were starting to get annoyed that you just couldn’t tear your eyes off the screen. “Okay, that’s it.” Calum burst out, your eyes finally tearing from the screen to look at him in confusion. He pushed himself off the couch and stood in front of you. “You told me one assignment, not four. Give me the laptop.” He said holding out his hands, a coy smile sitting pretty on his lips. You held up a finger and started saving your work. “Nope, I’m not holding on anymore.” He reached forward and took the laptop out of your fingers, closed it and walked away.

“Wait, Calum, I didn’t save my work!” You started running after him. He made his way down the hall, laptop tucked under his arm. “Calum, please.”

Calum suddenly stopped and turned around, “Oh, yeah, say that again, baby.” He inched closer to you, and towered over you, a smirk pulling at the corner of his lips. You stopped in your tracks, your stomach filling with butterflies. Calum was well aware of the effects he had on you, and used it to his advantage. While you swallowed and tried to stop your spinning head, Calum cracked a shit-eating grin then turned to jog into the office. Before you could catch up with him, he had hid your laptop in the office and closed the door. “You’re not getting it back until tomorrow morning.” You tried to reach around him to get to the door but he reached down, grabbing the back of your legs and throwing you over his shoulder.

You kicked and screamed at him to give you your laptop until he flipped you over, setting you on the couch. You huffed to blow the strands of your hair out of your face. “Calum, let me have my laptop, please.” He frowned and shook his head as he sat next to you on the couch. You crossed your arms over your chest and slammed your back against the couch, grumbling over the defeat.

Calum laughed at your pout and pulled you into his lap. “Damn, I didn’t know taking away your laptop would cause this much distress.” He placed a soft kiss to the side of your head while wrapping his arms around your waist and resting his chin on your shoulder. “Just want to spend some time with my love, what’s so wrong with that?” The warmth his body transferred to your body caused you to relax into his chest, Calum pressing another kiss to the side of your head and humming in satisfaction.

monday morning, 7am

you were very nervous, to be honest

after graduating, you finally found your first job in your field, business administration

because of all your experiences as a student, you could get a good opportunity like this

you just took some fruit, yogurt and left the house to get the bus

you were supposed to be in the building at 8am to start

but because it was your first day, you came early

other coworkers were also coming

you greeted them as they knew you were a greenhorn in work

you started to organize your stuff on the table, turn on the computer and open up the folders

“good morning, everyone”, a very beautiful lady came in

you remembered her from the interview day

she was very sweet

her name tag said kim kyeongmin

“oh, ms. y/n, welcome! everyone, this is your new coworker, please welcome her”

you felt smiles around you and smiled back, also thanking kyeongmin

kyeongmin went to her office, which was right in front of the big room where all employees, including you, had their computers and stuff

the place was nice, spacious

and there was also a coffee machine plus a candy machine

modern office’s stuff

“hey, my name is jane, nice to meet you”, said the woman sitting by the table beside you

“oh, hi, I’m y/n. it’s my pleasure.”

“so, if you need anything, you can just ask me”, she delivered a friendly smile, “I started here six months ago so I know there must be some questions”

you nodded, “of course, thank you”, showing gratitude

you spent the whole morning working and there was a lot to catch up on

your coworkers asked if you’d like to come for lunch but you honestly weren’t even hungry

when you were into something, you didn’t like to pause, so you’d only stop when you’re finished

not that it’s good, since you had to eat

but yeah

during the lunch break, when you finally finished what you were writing and took some sandwich from inside your bag to eat

someone entered the room

you immediately looked, cause your table was the first view when someone got through the door

it was a man and the first thing you noticed was his height

he was tall

a simple white shirt, two buttons opened

black pants

his hair was styled in a nice way too, no strand of hair out of place

you could tell he was a serious guy but not a boring one

“excuse me, where’s everyone?”, he asked

you touched your face just in case there was any bread bran on it

“oh, hm, they are lunching”

he looked at his watch

“I’m sorry I thought the lunch break was already over”

“it’s okay, how can I help you? is there anything you need to deliver to ms. kim?”

he stopped for a brief second and then opened a little smile

“oh no, no, I can come back later”

you nodded

he was almost leaving when you, not satisfied, extended the conversation introducing yourself

“I’m sorry for my manners, my name is y/n”

he looked at you

“you’re the new employee, right? nice to meet you, I’m namjoon”, he said

“yes, nice to meet you too”

you didn’t know how he got that information

probably your proactive beginner way of being said it all

maybe he didn’t work there since he didn’t even have a name tag

you shrugged and came back to your work once he left

not so long later everyone came back, one by one

your new friend (could you call her like that already tho?) jane brought you a cupcake as a welcoming gift

“omg thank you!”, it was cute with a funny character designed on top

“no problem”

you had a lot of things to work on

kyeongmin brought you some stuff on paper to transfer to the virtual folder

you were very concentrated cause, in your mind, mistakes shouldn’t happen on your first day

when the door opened, you couldn’t help but look

the guy from earlier came in again

“excuse me, is kyeongmin already here?”

“no, sir, she was but she had to solve a problem at the bank”, another co-worker answered

sir?

“I’ll have to go into her office, then”, he said to himself out loud

everyone but you nodded

when you noticed, you just followed the nodding session

by the glass wall you could see him inside the office very concentrated

“he came here during lunch, who’s him?”

“oh, you don’t know yet?”, another colleague questioned

“I thought he came to deliver something…”

“no, girl, he’s the owner of this”

“w-what?”

“ms. kim and him are partners in business, he’s the CEO, tho”

everything in your mind made sense

“seriously? I had no idea”

“it’s okay, you just started”

after almost thirty minutes, he was still there

by that hour, everyone was making coffee

“so, every afternoon we like to make coffee, and we always make one to ms. kim when she’s very busy”, jane explained the routine to you

“since she’s not here, we’re making one to him…?”, you asked

“yeah”, someone else answered, putting some cream on top of his cup

“and every day a different person does it”

you looked at them

“I get it”, you said, “I’ll bring him the coffee since I’m new here”

they giggled

you made his coffee exactly like yours since you couldn’t guess how he liked it

everything ready, you knocked at the door

he didn’t move his head but looked at the door opening

“hey, hm, sir, we thought you’d like some coffee”

omg are you going to be informal like this and then add ‘sir’ just to make it better???

“oh”, he relaxed and leaned on the chair more comfortably, “it came in the right moment”

you gave a simple smile

he reached to take the cup from your hands

“thank you… y/n. right?”

you were surprised

“exactly”

you were about the get out the room but

“y/n?”

“yes?”

“do you speak spanish?”

“what?”, you spitted that out without even thinking

cough

“I mean…”, you tried to clean up the mess

but he smiled and laughed a little

“sorry, I caught you by surprise. it’s just that I have a meeting with a team from Spain in one week, and I am not that good in spanish, so”

“I actually… do… speak some spanish.”

“oh!”, he seemed excited, “I asked the others but they don’t. spanish is not an easy language, so…”

“but, if you prefer, I could find a professional translator and-”

“don’t get me wrong, I know it’s not your job to do this, but it would be better if someone from the company could go with me, since we’ll talk about market research analysis and those business administration stuff, which is your field, right?”

did he read your resume too? you thought only ms. kim hired you

of course he would read, he’s the ceo

so he knew you could speak spanish too, it was on your resume

that’s why he asked so directly

“yes, yes, it’s our field”

he agreed, now playing with a pen in his right hand

“now, if you excuse me…”

“of course”, he said and even stood up as you bowed

people were really respectful in this company, huh

he was kinda nice tho

you thought he’d be cocky cuz he’s the ceo

but nah he was nice

anyways it would be a very good opportunity to be the official translator

you’d meet new people

alright, time to practice spanish again

the whole week was ok

you didn’t meet namjoon again, only kyeongmin, until the other week, on wednesday

one day before the meeting he was meant to attend to, he asked kyeongmin to send you to his office

“y/n, namjoon is calling you at his office. you’re attending the event tomorrow, right?”, she was so nice to you

you wonder what namjoon and her were of each other

“yes”, you smiled

“great! you can finish your work here later, ok?”, she pointed to the computer with her head

“thank you”

“tell him he owes me one”, she said when you were already leaving

when you stepped at his office

it was like

a whole new world lol

minimalist but so… chic?

it was so clean you almost took off your shoes to not dirty the floor

there was a wall full of books

he could even live there if he wanted to because it was so cool

his taste was great for interior design, in case he was the one who picked the stuff himself

there was a name tag made of glass with “kim nam joon” on it

he looked so powerful sitting there

but in the moment he saw you, he stood up and bowed too

“excuse me”

“please”, his hand pointed to the chair in front of that beautiful wood table

ok you were so mesmerized by that interior design lol

you sat in front of him while he was printing something

then you saw he was actually making a copy of the paper he was about to give you

it had like two pages and it was full of notes, but very organized

he put some glasses on and, dude, in that moment

he reached a new level of handsome

“how are you?”

you were caught by surprise a little

this is the type of question everyone asks but at the same time they don’t in situations like this

mainly when there’s something more important to talk about

“I am fine... you?”

“looking forward to the meeting. I’ll ask my driver to pick you up at 5pm so we won’t be late”

you nodded

“this”, he gave you the paper, “contains the main points we’re going to discuss tomorrow. I also made some notes and… if you have some question, go ahead”

namjoon’s personality was friendly and you could tell that by the way he talked and welcomed you

that’s why you read that paper and made all the questions you wanted

and wrote down some other notes

you’d definitely spend the rest of the day studying

it was your field, but you didn’t want to disappoint

“do you have any other question?”, he asked

“yes. what’s your spanish level?”

he smiled because of the question

you were very straightforward

he was probably expecting another question about the points he wrote down

“well… I can introduce myself, speak some simple sentences, but I understand more than I speak, so…”

“ok”, you said, writing down

he seemed curious about what you wrote

“it’s just because I need to know what do I have to translate”

“don’t worry, you’ll know”

you frowned

“you’ll notice my lost expression”, he said

“ok, so, I think this is it…”

you were organizing all the papers you had to bring home, then you noticed one of the files namjoon gave weren’t there

there were so many on his table that maybe you forgot it there

so you came back

the door was slightly opened and you knocked

but he didn’t answer so maybe he wasn’t there

and you just had to find your file

so you got in and he was coming back from the bathroom

you froze

his white shirt, usually two buttons opened

The Urban Distillery Takeover of Tennessee

When we started the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, I knew it was going to be fun, but I had no idea it would double as a history lesson. Nor did I have an inkling of an idea of how diverse 26 distilleries truly could be. How many times would we be able to learn about how to turn a fermented grain into a highly refined spirit? Plenty, it turns out.

And then we started tackling it, slowly—slower than most, as we’re doing it deliberately, taking the time to meet the distiller and the brains behind the operation, to interview the staff, to get a (literal and figurative) taste for the product—and it was immediately apparent that no two distilleries tackle production the same way, nor do any two whiskeys taste the same.

There are just too many variables to corner any whiskey into a box: mash bills, production volume, equipment, philosophy, and simple things like how to keep a business in operation that spans a minimum of five years before a viable product will hit the shelves are all things that impact the decision-making and end product that we’ll all enjoy poured over a pile of ice in a rocks glass.

Our experience highlights a truism that is inherent in any long-term business, particularly distilled spirits in one of the strictest regulatory environments in the country: build it and they will (might) come. Each and every one of these scrappy distilleries must find a way to build a client base, produce a marketable product in the short term while keeping an eye on a long-term plan for legacy status.

The Tennessee Whiskey Trail is designed so that you can tackle it in any way and in any order you please. We’ve analyzed the geography of our sprawling state with a tourist in mind to create easily digestible segments of each part of the trail in the hopes that if you’re only here for a short period that you’ll be able to at least eke out a significant bit of sight-seeing and tourism in the state proper but that you’ll also be able to experience some of the liquid magic being produced in our pretty backroads by passionate advocates of distilled spirits.

Only have three days and spending that whole time in Nashville? Cool. You can easily tick off a solid eight stops—maybe even more. Flying into Knoxville for a business engagement and wanting to get a stamp on your passport between meetings? Perfect. You can get two.

We, however, wanted to attack the trail in geographic order, from west to east, which took us to the far western corner of Tennessee to kick off our project for the Tennessee Distillers Guild.

MEMPHIS

You can’t even mention Tennessee to an outsider without them thinking of music and the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley. While country music and Middle Tennessee’s Nashville tend to dominate the current musical zeitgeist, countless stars originated in western Tennessee, and Graceland, the former home of Elvis, is a pilgrimage to many. Lucky for you, there’s just one distillery in Memphis, so you’ll have plenty of time to explore the Bluff City’s other cultural offerings.

Old Dominick Distillery

Old Dominick Distillery is a high-end, multi-million dollar property right smack on the river in downtown Memphis. While it may seem more like a venue that makes booze than vice versa, don’t let that fool you: The building is a gorgeous, airy, metal, glass and wood affair situated in a prime location in a once decrepit neighborhood on the banks of the Mississippi River. An expansive greenway extends along the waterfront just steps from the distillery while some of the most pivotal moments in American history are contained just down the street with museums galore, as well as Beale Street—with its rocking honky-tonks, kitschy storefronts and historical theaters—the biggest tourist draw.

Where to Stay in Memphis

The Peabody Memphis is always my go-to when in Memphis. It’s chock full of history, with the original location built nearly 150 years ago, plus it has its own whiskey tie-in: It has a single barrel of Jack Daniel’s on site in the Corner Bar, plus some of its duck residents have gone to live out their days in retirement at the Lynchburg distillery. If you’re passing through Memphis, even if just for a day, a viewing of the daily Peabody Duck March is a must; at 11am each morning, they’re paraded down from their penthouse loft to the lobby, where they swim in the fountain during daylight hours, and at 5pm each night, they’re shepherded back to their roost for the evening.

I got a major surprise on my most recent visit and was asked to come up as the HDM—that’s Honorary Duck Master, for those not in-the-know—and got to accompany (Actual) Duck Master Anthony Petrina on his daily march. It was 100 times more fun than I ever thought it might be. (Watch the video below for a look at that special occasion!)

NASHVILLE

Ahhh, Nashville. The city I claim as my home, as I grew up just an hour down the road. You need a good weekend to even scratch the surface, though a week is more ideal. Of course, if you’re wanting to hit all four distilleries (five, if you include Corsair’s two locations), then I recommend staying as long as your time allows you. You won’t get bored, that’s for sure!

Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery

Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery is one of our favorites in Nashville, with legit real people running the show, an awesome tasting room, large event space and barrel houses that are in the midst of an expansion into adjoining spaces in the industrial-cool Marathon Village. Nearly a decade ago, Andy and Charlie Nelson unearthed a whiskey heritage while on a day trip to Greenbrier with their dad, then committed to reviving the brand their great-great-great-great-grandfather launched that later died just before Prohibition; they opened their doors to the public three years ago next month. They continue to make their signature Belle Meade Bourbon, but have ventured into new products like a handful of cask finishes (madeira, cognac, sherry) and have a gorgeous brick and mortar to boot.

Pennington Distilling Co.

Pennington Distilling Co. has a number of brands that are housed beneath the SPEAKeasy Spirits corporate name, including their debut Whisper Creek Tennessee Sipping Cream and various flavors of Picker’s Vodka, but we’re most excited about their newest product, the Davidson Reserve Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey, which sends SVV into a tizzy of delight. Their location, in the booming Nations neighborhood, is undergoing a complete revamp with the addition of more than 28 large shipping containers fashioned into tasting rooms, event spaces and a rooftop bar overlooking downtown Nashville. Owners Jeff and Jenny Pennington, who both formerly worked for competing distributors, are hyper-focused on efficiencies in the process and use fascinating methods of recycling waste heat that could shake up the industry. And let me just reiterate: Their brand new rye, OMG, you need it in your life.

Nashville Craft Distillery

Nashville Craft has an excellent location, a gorgeous mid-century inspired building with high ceilings and plans to build an outdoor space to capitalize on the recent liquor-by-the-drink legislation, which allows all distilleries to serve up cocktails on-site with their own product. Bruce Boeko uses scientific techniques learned from years of running a DNA laboratory but brings a bit of artistic flair to create his booze and is just now releasing an aged whiskey to the general public. His sorghum whiskey Naked Biscuit or the Crane City gin are popular examples of his clear liquors that reflect his scientific attention to detail. Bruce is on speed dial for many, many distillers in Tennessee because of his expertise and willingness to share secrets.

Corsair Distillery

Corsair Distillery has long been a favorite of SVV after he received a bottle of their Artisan Gin for our housewarming party years ago. Highly experimental as a base corporate philosophy, Corsair makes incredibly interesting booze by integrating flavors from various grains like quinoa, buckwheat, oats, spelt, barley and triticale (I had to look that one up, too). The hardest part about visiting either of their two Nashville locations is choosing which samples you want to try from their exhaustive inventory. They also do craft cocktails made from their product so even if you’re not interested in the tour, you can pop in for a drink.

CLARKSVILLE

Clarksville is an hour north of Nashville and an easy enough drive to make it there and back in an afternoon. It’s also home to Austin Peay State University, but the big draw is its impressively massive distillery that just turned one year old.

Old Glory Distilling Co.

Old Glory Distilling Co. was built from the ground up by the Cunningham family and features an elegant event space with indoor seating for up to 375 people adjoining a working distillery. Like many of Tennessee’s smaller cities and towns, Clarksville has a booming revitalization effort going on downtown and is worth the trip up I-24. Old Glory is one of the few operations in the state that has the ability to produce high-proof liquor for vodka, which they do with a Tennessee twist by filtering the final product through sugar maple charcoal. Their first whiskey is due out in December 2017, and we can’t wait to taste their two-year-old product. They also make an excellent rum and a wheat-based moonshine, both of which you can sample in the tasting room along with a couple of cocktails on the menu.
