A DOG'S DINNER
While our unelected, multimillionaire Prime Minister enjoys a well earned break in his £5 million penthouse overlooking the Pacific Ocean in California, the country is being run by a simpleton.
His ineptitude has attracted headlines such as:
“Oliver Dowden, the Culture Secretary is a barely useful idiot..." (brokenbottleboy: 11/11/20)
“Musicians hit back at Oliver Dowden’s “utterly pathetic” boast of Brexit touring breakthrough." (NME:05/06/21)
“Oliver Dowden has resigned as Conservative co-chair after the party’s disastrous double by-election losses..." Guardian: 24/06/22)
But perhaps the most damning insight into Dowden’s lack of intelligence is this revelation by Sasha Swire, in her book “Diary of an MP's Wife", Little,Brown, 2020).
“Oliver Dowden, in the lobby, tells H (Sasha’s husband) he is so sick of his wife’s vegan cooking he was absolutely delighted when he came home and finally saw a ham and chicken bake in the fridge. He gobbled it down lustily. When his wife came back, she asked him where the dog’s food had gone.”
It’s good to know the country is in such competent hands.

Britain’s Conservative Party convincingly lost two by-elections for the House of Commons on the same day. These latest in a string of defeats caused the party’s co-chair to tender his resignation.
Conservative co-chair Oliver Dowden has resigned following two by-election losses for the party to Labour and the Liberal Democrats.
The Lib Dems overturned a huge Tory majority in Tiverton and Honiton, Devon, their third by-election victory over Boris Johnson's party this year.
And Labour retook the seat of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, which it lost at the 2019 general election.
Mr Dowden said Tory supporters were "distressed and disappointed".
The West Yorkshire constituency of Wakefield and the Devon constituency of Tiverton and Honiton became vacant after the Conservatives who held them had to step down because of sex related scandals.
Wakefield had been held by Labour prior to the 2019 general election. So there had been a consensus among pundits that the seat would return to Labour. However the margin of the Labour victory was greater than anticipated.
The Conservative loss in Tiverton and Honiton was in some ways even more spectacular. The area had been represented in Parliament by Conservatives for about a hundred years. So it was stunning for the Lib Dems to get 52.9% of the vote.
The collapse in support for the Conservatives has been blamed on Prime Minister Boris Johnson. His Partygate scandal is just the latest reason for dissatisfaction.
BoJo is currently in Rwanda at the Commonwealth Summit. And he’ll be spending much of next week at either the NATO summit in Spain or the G7 summit in Germany. So he’ll be able to avoid most of the political fallout at home from these losses until early July.
But these results will only add to the disquiet of Tory backbenchers who already tried to oust Johnson a few weeks ago. There is speculation that they may attempt to change Conservative Party rules in order to have another go at removing Johnson.

Uk's Boris Johnson seeks to stay in power until the mid-2030s

Uk's Boris Johnson seeks to stay in power until the mid-2030s
Kigali (The Times Groupe)- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared on Saturday he intends to remain in power until the middle of the next decade, despite calls for him to quit, making him the longest-serving leader in the country’s history. conservative
Boris Johnson survived a vote of confidence by Conservative lawmakers earlier this month, in which 41% voted to oust him. He is being investigated for deliberately misleading the House of Commons.
Conservative candidates lost two parliamentary by-elections held on Friday to replace Conservative incumbents who resigned after being convicted of sexual assault and watching pornography in the House of Commons, respectively.
As a result of a scandal over illegal parties held at Downing Street during Coronavirus lockdowns, Johnson’s broad voter appeal which helped him win a large parliamentary majority in December 2019 may be fraying.
For another year, Conservative lawmakers cannot challenge Johnson formally, but dissatisfaction or resignations by senior ministers could undermine his position.
With inflation at a 40-year high, Britain is also experiencing its deepest cost-of-living crisis in decades.
After the by-election losses, Conservative party chairman Oliver Dowden resigned and former party leader Michael Howard said Johnson should go.
To reduce regional economic disparities and make changes to Britain’s legal and immigration systems, Johnson said he would serve a third term as prime minister and remain in office until the middle of the 2030s.
“At the moment I am thinking actively about the third term and, you know, what could happen then. But I will review it when I get to it,” Johnson told reporters in Rwanda on the final day of a visit for a Commonwealth summit.
Asked what he meant, Johnson said: “About the third term … this is the mid-2030s.”
In order for Johnson to call the next national election by December 2024, he must win a third election by 2029.
Until early 2031, he would become the longest continuously serving British prime minister since Robert Banks Jenkinson, the Earl of Liverpool, who served from 1812 to 1827.
According to Johnson, he did not expect to face another internal challenge within his party, and he faulted the by-election defeats partly on months of media coverage of lockdown parties in power.
“People were fed up of hearing about things I had stuffed up, or allegedly stuffed up, or whatever, this endless – completely legitimate, but endless – churn of news,” he said.
He rejected the notion that he should change his behavior earlier on Saturday, according to BBC radio.
“If you’re saying you want me to undergo some sort of psychological transformation, I think that our listeners would know that that … is not going to happen.”
In The Times newspaper, Johnson declined to comment on a report that he planned to have a donor fund a 150,000-pound ($184,000) treehouse for his son at his state-provided country home.
The story comes months after his party was fined for failing to accurately report a donation that helped fund the refurbishment of his Downing Street apartment.
“I won’t comment on non-existent objects,” Johnson replied when asked if a donor’s money would be used to build the treehouse. power

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden has urged Britons to stockpile batteries, candles, torches, and radios to prepare for a possible cyber attack or power grid failure. Dowden claims that the public has become too dependent on electronics and must learn to survive without electricity. The government plans to launch a “resilience academy” to train individuals and businesses to prepare for such disasters.
Russia pushed Ukraine off the grid earlier in the war and blocked their access to the internet (war crime according to the MSM) and Israel did the same to Palestine (not a war crime according to the MSM). We have seen hackers from Iran break into US infrastructure such as waterways, as the enemy need not be your direct neighbor. The risk of cyber warfare that attacks a nation’s infrastructure is no longer a conspiracy theory but an event the public must prepare to combat.
We have also recently seen governments block their own people from the internet or implement temporary power outages to preserve their failing grids. It is concerning that some politicians are saying that we must prepare for natural disasters that could have the same impact. Labour frontbencher Pat McFadden used the topic to discuss energy usage among the “public estate.” “Why is it that the government’s new policy is to roll back on the transition mandated by its own legislation for net zero, and prolong a reliance on international fossil fuel markets? For these failures, the British public has paid a heavy price,” he commented.
Interestingly, they are still pushing for a cashless society despite these risks. Britons have been warned that there is a good chance something will occur that knocks them off the grid. The fact that they’re even suggesting battery-powered radios means they believe there is a chance that the grid could be down for an extended period of time and all communications will come to a standstill. The government would not be warning the people to stockpile CANDLES if they didn’t know of a serious threat lurking around the corner.

So I greatly enjoy your political commentary, despite/because of not being British and thus further removed. But. I went and looked at that resignation letter the Tory chairman tweeted and I am just very much struck by that last paragraph, "Finally, I want to emphasise that this is a deeply personal decision that I have taken alone. I will, as always, remain loyal to the Conservative Party." I find it Very Interesting that he feels he needs to emphasise that it is His Choice
Same!!! Back at the start of Partygate a bunch of Tories quit, and BJ tried to claim he'd fired them. My theory is that Dowden is trying to prevent that.
HERE'S WHAT'S REALLY INTERESTING, THOUGH
So Dan Bloom for the Mirror, coworker to Pippa Crerar who investigated and broke the Partygate scandal, has found out an amazing amount of information about all this (and truly we are in the Strangest Timeline that THE MIRROR is suddenly the bastion of investigative journalism in Britain what the FUCK). Here are some Fun Facts:
The Tories were absolutely expecting to get hammered in these by-elections (or at least knew they would lose; in fairness they possibly weren't expecting the humbling experience of losing to the sixth biggest swing since the second world war)
As such, Oliver Dowden has spent the last week or so practising the interview lines and speeches that he and BlowJo would be giving to the press to address and minimise the loss (it's - I'm sorry, it WAS - Dowden's job to handle the press response to the whole thing)
They knew this was coming, is what I am saying
They were prepared
So... why has Dowden suddenly resigned?
And more to the point and absolutely fucking hilariously, this absolutely blindsided Boris Johnson. He's in Rwanda, right now. You know how he found out? A panicked Tory whispering the news into his ear as he finished his morning swim
NO ONE KNOWS WHY OLIVER DOWDEN HAS DONE THIS
Possibly least of all Oliver Dowden
So now they're having to hastily scrounge up some BJ loyalists to deliver the news instead and have settled on Priti Patel and Dominic Raab, be still my beating fists
And Big Dog had to give a quote to the press and decided to blame the results on the Cost of Living Crisis,
Which is also his fault
That is not a defence, Boris
That's still you
In conclusion, I am having a lovely day

101 Things You Should Know About the UK Tory Government
Thing 30
Unelected Rishi Sunak has appointed Oliver Dowden to his cabinet in the role of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. I have to confess I had no idea what this post involved but GOV.UK tells us “after the Prime Minister, he is the most senior minister in the Cabinet Office.” As such he has a raft of important responsibilities, including "propriety and ethics," and "driving delivery of Government's priorities."
So, quite an important and influential job, and no doubt one Rishi Sunak gave much thought too before choosing Oliver Dowden to fill the post.
Sunak has come under deserved criticism for his poor judgement when appointing MP’s to his Cabinet. – the disgraced Suella Braverman, Gavin Williamson and Dominic Raab, both facing enquiries into alleged bullying behaviour, to name but three.
Given Oliver Dowden has been described as having “the air of a trainee sales assistant on the luxury goods floor of a department store. Posh, well meaning, but not particularly bright” (Guardian: 09/07/20) you might think here is one Rishi Sunak appointment beyond reproach. Think again.
Like many in Sunak’s Cabinet, Dowden is on the right of the party and as such has little sympathy for poor working people.
The Oxford Language dictionary describes the term “woke" as meaning "alert to injustice and discrimination in society, especially racism."
I may be old fashioned, but I would think being “alert to injustice and discrimination in society” was a prerequisite of all governments, not least the person responsible for government “propriety and ethics.” After all, how else are they able to formulate policies to improve the lives of the worst off in our society? But Dowden sees those who highlight injustice and discrimination within Britain as the enemy.
It is disturbing to learn that Dowden has delivered a “bizarre ‘Trumpian' speech to controversial US think tank," (London Economic: (15/02/22) where he condemned being alert to injustice and discrimination as: “a dangerous form of decadence,” and instead of looking to improve social justice within our own borders, “our attention should be focused on external foes.”
So, if you expect the Sunak government to deliver social justice anytime soon don’t hold your breath.
