my thoughts on manifest finale

an end of an era…

It goes without saying big props to all the cast and crew for such amazing storytelling for 4 seasons! Dang I’ll miss the 828 crew! I also want to add that Ben was giving strong manic red string energy for like the first 3.5 seasons so I found him annoying for a lot of the show but I’m glad I was actually able to enjoy his presence this last half lol

SPOILERS AHEAD

RIGHT OFF THE BAT IM SO GLAD I WAS ABLE TO EAT MY WORDS! I was convinced when zeke died that it was making room for jared and michaela endgame AND IM SO GLAD THAT IT WASNT! (i'm just going to ignore ep 15-19) and despite the bts romance between jr and melissa, zeke and michaela had much stronger chemistry imo and im soooooo glad they were endgame

i loved the conclusion of the 828 mystery and the callings and everything! when i first started the show i was so apprehensive as a former catholic about the biblical elements (just because i didn't want it to feel like propganda-y) but how they weaved elements of like noah ark's and like judgement day, i was okay with it

as for the whole ACTUAL ending (ie them landing back in 2013), i both love and hate time travel / alt timelines in shows because depending on how they explain it i can't wrap my head around it so hopefully any fellow 828'ers can help me out. so i understand that they were essentially given a second chance to right some wrongs and whatever but like for zeke and michaela, does that mean zeke will never go into the cave in 2017? since you find out the callings were basically memories, michaela tells zeke to "find her" in the divine consciousness so he had that "calling" in the cave - is this just a separate timeline? i'm kinda confused lol any help?

all in all thanks manifest cast and crew for an amazing 4/5 years of hard work!!!

"hey" you waved, when you saw cal entering the tent that you shared. a soft "hi, sweetheart" escaped his lips. he looked down, just like you, both nervous and anxious about what might happen tomorrow, the day of the date of death.

you patted the place next to you delicately, indicating him to lie down next to you. once he did, you wrapped your arms around his slim torso, feeling his heart pounding hard on his chest.

"i'm afraid. i'm afraid of dying. i'm afraid of losing you again" cal whispered. you could feel his voice crack slightly at the statement. you just looked at him and hugged him even tighter.

"me too, my love, i am too" you confessed, feeling the tears pool in your longing eyes. "but let's try not to think about that. i prefer to take comfort here, in the now. i want to take comfort in you"

cal just looked at you, you could see the fear clearly in his teary eyes. "i don't know what tomorrow holds" you continued to speak softly "but i'm sure that if we die, if we don't, whatever ending awaits us, we'll be together. no matter death, no matter time, i'll be with you, cal stone."

cal smiled at your words. you felt it ease slightly under your touch "i'm sure of that, honey" he took your hand leaving a soft kiss on the back of it.

"if this is really our last night... i want you to know that you are the love of my life, i don't know what i would do without you, my love. i promise that no matter what happens tomorrow, we will be together" he spoke to you cradling your face and leaving a chaste kiss on your lips.

you both relaxed, regulating your breaths, synchronizing them, with the moonlight illuminating the tent. that night you promised to love each other under any circumstances and hours later, cal got up, having that promise as his main motivation.

when his dad begged him not to go for him, for his sisters, for you, he remembered it again. "this is for her, this is for us" were his last words before disappearing in the middle of the blue column.

Y/n's P.O.V:

I had just finished helping Olive, and as I was walking back to my room I heard Cal talking.

"Stupid piece of shit." He said.

I looked into his room and seen him hitting his hands on his head and talking to himself.

"Cal? Are you alright?" I asked pushing the door open even more.

"No!! I can't do anything right!! I'm the only one who can help dad and aunt Mick but, I can't even do that!! I'm worthless." He said, sighing, sliding down the wall.

"Cal," I said "Look at me."

I lifted his head up by his chin.

"You are not worthless." I said "You are amazing, kind, sweet, and loving. And you are not the only one who can help them, you have me and Olive here to help you."

"Your wrong. I'm just a worthless piece of shit." He said, starting to cry.

"Oh, Cal." I said, bringing him into a hug.

"You aren't worthless. And I will say this until it gets stuck in your head. You are amazing, and smart, and loving. That's why I fell in love with you." I said.

"Y-you love me?" He asked looking me in the eyes.

"Yes. I love you Cal Stone." I said keeping our eye contact.

"But, how can you love someone like me?" He asked, then started going on about how he was worthless.

'Not this again.' I thought. I grabbed his chin forcing him to stop talking.

"Why did y-" He started but was cut off by me kissing him.

"Now are you going to stop saying your worthless?" I asked, resting my forehead on his.

"But-" *kiss*

"I-" *kiss*

"Am-" *kiss*

"Wothless." *kiss*

I kissed him after each word hoping he would shut up, but that didn't work.

"Cal, I love you for you. You are not worthless. End of discussion." I said sternly.

"But-" I cut him off.

"Ah, ah, ah. Nope. Not starting that again." I said.

"I love you too Y/n. And thank you." He said.

"Your welcome." I said getting up from were I was sitting text to him.

"Wait!!" Call exclaimed just before I could walk out the door.

"Yeah?" I asked turning around to look at him.

"Will you stay with me tonight?" He asked.

"Yes, just let me go grab some pajamas." I said and walked out of the room.

I went into my room and changed into a pair of black sleep shorts and a black crop top. After changing I went back to Cal's room to see him already in bed. I walked over to the bed and laid down next to him. I turned around to face him and hugged him. I felt his arms loop around me, hugging me back.

"Goodnight love." I whispered.

"Goodnight Y/n." He whispered back.

"Love you." He whispered.

"Love you too." I whispered back as I drifted off to sleep.

The last thing I remember was Cal pecking my lips gently before falling asleep.

Whether you loved the ending, hated the ending, were ambivalent about it or left feeling confused as heck - viewers and fans of this show are going to be discussing and debating what happened after the final credits rolled for a very long time to come and THAT is what makes a masterful TV show!

After being absolutely screwed over by the supernatural finale, I gotta say I really did like the Manifest finale. It wasn't perfect but it was pretty well done.

Spoilers below

I totally shipped benvi as a couple but it's also very understandable that they would not be endgame. That being said, their chemistry was off the charts and I'm so glad for ALL their scenes together in 4B.

I'm also really happy with how Michaela's story ended because yeah Zeke is the person she would choose every single time.

Yeah the TJ and Olive thing became a little weird because of the whole going back in time thing with her being a child thing but I think they handled it in a non creepy way by making him move on. At least he'll remember all the time they had together.

Saanvi, my beloved Desi bisexual icon, she's always been my favourite character and this season too she didn't disappoint. Of course, I really wish she'd gotten more screentime (she wasn't there in an ENTIRE episode), but it did feel like she was treated like the main character that she is.

I know a lot of people cringe at the mad love line but I thought it was pretty sweet.

I loved how they kept the found family theme right to the end, *cough* take notes supernatural *cough* and I loved how every single character interacted with each other this season. The hugs, the heartfelt conversations, it was so so sweet to watch.

There'll probably be some discourse about how the ending erased the entire series but I don't think that's true. Because there are some who forgot but there are still some that remember. I think all the passengers will continue to keep in touch and as for Cal and Olive, they get to have a redo without all of the death and pain clouding their lives. They get their parents back and more importantly they get their childhood back.

PS : I've also personally never understood the Grace hate. She is literally out there living her life and loving her family and getting stuff done.
