🌍El salón flamenco y el mecenazgo de Carlos Miguel Fitz-James Stuart y Silva (1794 – 1835). - 📌Si hace una semana poníamos en relieve la figura del XVII duque de Alba a través de la obra de Zuloaga, el número XIV de esta dinastía está considerado como uno de los grandes iniciadores de la colección actual en materia de pintura antigua. Nacido en el apogeo de las ideas revolucionarias de finales del siglo XVIII, el duque Carlos Miguel fue un personaje erudito educado en los ideales del Grand Tour y los años posteriores a la ilustración. El inicio de su colección tomaría como gran punto de partida una vez heredados los títulos y propiedades de la Casa de Alba vía su familiar María del Pilar Teresa Cayetana de Silva y Álvarez de Toledo, XIII duquesa de Alba. Fue en ese instante que decidió engrandecer de manera coherente una herencia que aunque generosa, tenía vacíos en los grandes maestros internacionales. En este salón se reúnen los apellidos de Rubens Brueghel, o Teniers destacando entre algunos óleos: Carlos y la Emperatriz Isabel de Portugal o un retrato de Felipe IV por el ya citado Rubens (ambos dos en el centro de la imagen). La copia (en la parte superior a estos retratos) del Combate de las amazonas con los griegos también evoca una de las obras del pintor flamenco. Por último, digna de mencionar es la obra de Brueghel hijo, en la pared central (a la derecha de nuestra foto) representando “la vanidad mundana”. ¿Quieres conocer más obras de cerca de este salón? #Repost @paintings_i_love № 3134 Claude Monet (French, 1840 – 1926) Bouquet de glaïeuls, lis et marguerites dated 1878 Oil on canvas Private collection • Painted in 1878, Monet’s bouquet of gladioli, lilies and daisies beautifully demonstrates the artist’s ability to evoke the lavishness and vitality of flowers, rendering them with extraordinary freshness and spontaneity. Rather than relying on the trompe l’oeil technique often associated with the still-life genre, Monet drew upon his own creative ingenuity and his interpretation of the display before his easel, applying the newfound Impressionist technique to an indoor subject. In the present composition, Monet applied his exuberant palette not only to the flowers, but also to the vase and the table top which reflects the various colors of the bouquet—an effect which is visual suggestive of of the artist’s own palette. The vase itself appears to be decorated with a floral motif, and Monet’s subtle touches of the white pigment beautifully convey the shine of the porcelain. Having temporarily abandoned the still-life motif during his years at Argenteuil earlier in the decade, Monet embraced this subject again in Vétheuil, where he lived from the summer of 1878 until the end of 1881. Man with a Sword by Rembrandt and Studio, 1644. In this powerful and enigmatic painting, a man holding an ornamented Ottoman sword sits in the foreground of a dimly lit interior.1 Portrayed half-length and in three-quarter view, he engages us with steady blue eyes and a muted expression. His restrained smile and focused gaze reflect little about his state of mind, yet somehow render him familiar and approachable. He wears old-fashioned clothing consisting of a purple jerkin over a white blouse with ruffled cuffs gathered tightly at the wrists. Beneath a plush purple beret, the man’s long brown curls extend onto a black cape that envelops the side of the wooden chair. A gold chain and medallion hang prominently across his chest, with areas of impasto — as well as those on the silver and gold ornament on the sword — depicting the reflected light that descends from the painting’s upper-left corner.
